All power has a price. In Hades 2 you'll be required to gather various resources during your nightly runs or from completing dangerous challenges. Whether you’re brewing powerful incantations, forging deadly weapons, or crafting alchemy recipes, knowing where to find each resource is essential.
This guide gathers every resource, explaining what it is, where you can find it, and how it affects your long-term progression. From Major Rewards that reset every run, to common reagents like Ashes and Psyche, and elusive materials like Snake-Reed, you’ll find everything you need here to make your runs more rewarding, and upgrade your kit faster.
Major Rewards (Run Upgrades)
All Major Rewards are gained and lost every Night. Once you end the night by dying or achieving victory, any Major Rewards gained will reset before starting your next run.
Gold Crowns (Money)
Gold Crowns purchase items from Charon's Shop, Well of Charon (Underworld), and at the Shrine of Hermes (Surface). All other Major Rewards can be bought in exchange for Gold Crowns. Healing and Minor Rewards can also be purchased. Minor Rewards purchased with Gold Crowns are added to your Reagents Inventory, the same as if you found them.
Buried Treasure, Sea Star, and Quick Buck, and are some of the Boons that increase the number of Gold Crowns you can earn in a night.
Soul Tonic (Magick)
Magick is the Mana of Hades 2, and Soul Tonics increase Melinoë's max Magick for the night. There are three variations of Soul Tonic that grant +10, +30, and +60 max Magick, respectively. Look to pick up plenty of Soul Tonics when your build uses frequent Omega Moves.
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 100
Centaur Hearts (Max Health)
Centaur Hearts increase Melinoë max Health for the night. There are three variations of Centaur Hearts that grant +5, +25, and +50 max Health, respectively. Increasing your max HP is essential for every run. Boons such as Spiritual Affirmation, Sea Star, and, Uncanny Fortitude can further help increase your total max health.
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 125
Pom of Power
Pom of Power grants +1 level to one god Boon. Similar to Boons, you will be presented with three random Boons from your build to choose which one to Pom. Most Boons have diminishing returns from successive Poms. The first typically will grant the highest increase in strength or effects, gradually decreasing until it reaches the minimum Pom upgrade effect.
Some Boons, such as, Hephaestus's Volcanic Strike, Volcanic Flourish, and, Smithy Rush, slightly deviate from this rule. Poms always decrease Blast Recharge time by one or two seconds until you reach the 2-second minimum. (Refer to our Builds for recommendations on which Boons to use Pom of Power on).
There are three variations of Pom of Power that grant +1,+2,+3 Boon levels, respectively. Also, if you find a slice of a Pom of Power, it grants +1 level to a randomly selected Boon.
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 100
Daedalus Hammer
Daedalus Hammers are upgrades for the Aspect of the Nocturnal Arms you acquire during the Night. For each run, you are almost guaranteed to be offered two hammers. Should you choose to decline the Hammer, you likely won't get another chance and will be limited to one or no Hammer upgrades for that Night.
Some Hammers increase the base stats of the Aspect, such as increased Attack speed. Other Hammers, such as the Zorephet's, Psychic Whirlwind, may add a unique function to your Aspect.
Not all Hammers will benefit your build and may feel like a nerf to your power instead. Also, the Hidden Aspects of each Weapon will have a few special Hammers that will only be offered when wielding that one Aspect and are not shared with the other Aspects of the same Weapon.
Gaining Additional Daedalus Hammers
Experimental Hammer Keepsake from Icarus will grant one random temporary Hammer - (Fun Fact: Icarus is the son of the great inventor Daedalus in Greek Mythology).
Suppose a Daedalus Hammer was your last reward in the Fields of Mourning before running into Echo. In this scenario, her Boon, Reward Reward Reward, will grant you an extra Hammer. Altogether, it is possible to end a run in the Underworld with 4 Hammers.
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 175
Path of Stars (Hexes)
Picking up a Path of Stars is unique from god Boons because they give Melinoë a Hex separate and unaffected by the rest of her build.
Some Hexes are defensively focused, while others offer more offensive benefits. Unless your build uses no Magick or Omega Moves, it's always worth adding a Path of Stars.
Subsequent Path of Stars grant upgrades to your Base Hex effect. When you grab enough Path of Stars upgrades, you'll have the option to select Bright, Sublime, and Godsent upgrades to add new powerful impacts to the Hex.
(See our Hex Tier List to see how each Path of Stars stack up against each other)
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 100
God Boons
God Boons are the most important part of your build each night. They shape the power and playstyle of your build more than any other Major Reward or run upgrade.
Different Gods, Boons, Weapon Aspects, Hammers, and Hexes have strong or poor synergy depending on the combination. Check out our God Tier list and Build Guides for a full breakdown of what makes certain Boon combinations great or terrible.
Base cost from Charon's Shop = 150

Gathering Tools
Gathering Tools Overview
Gathering Tools are required for Melinoë to harvest resources discoverable in various chambers and locations across every Region. Each Gathering Tool farms a particular type of resource that is unique to that Gathering Tool, such as Fish from the Rod of Fishing and Seeds from the Silver Spade. These resources are essential for unlocks, upgrades, and Incantations in both the early and mid-game.
Gathering Tools Differences from Hades I
If you played Hades I, you'll remember that you had to select which Gathering Tool you wanted to take with you each run. However, this is not the case in Hades 2 because all unlocked Gathering Tools will always be equipped by default.
Each Tool can upgrade their Rank to increase its gathering effectiveness and add the benefit of granting +1 Element per night.
