Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Waves on hit effect is excellent for high damage on fast-hitting Aspects
  • Froth adds a lot of damage to any build
  • Powerful Legendary and Duo Boons
  • His resource Boons are only good if acquired early in a run
  • Very Aspect-specific Synergies
  • Wave knockback can mess up your combos and positioning.

Overview

Poseidon, the ocean God offers the up the power and bounty of the sea. His Splash damage triggers on every strike, so the faster your weapon hits the better.

He's also good in early game to farm resources with Buried Treasure. He's not the most universally strong God, but the builds he's good with are very powerful and a lot of fun to use and watch the endless splashes wash away your enemies.

Boons

For a full list of Poseidon's Boons, see our Wiki.

Wave and Froth Boons

Tidal Ring is the only Poseidon Boon that inflicts Froth natively. To get Wave Strike and Wave Flourish to inflict Froth, (thereby increasing DPS), you'll need to grab Slippery Slope.

Every single time you put Poseidon on Attack/Special, try to get Slippery Slope. If Waves are your main source of damage, then you also need to try to acquire his Legendary, King Tide. Guardian encounters are going to take way longer without it.

Tidal Ring is one of the better Cast Boons because it inflicts a curse for Origination (XIV), deals burst damage upfront, and is good for damage over time from Froth. (assuming you're attacking foes in our Cast)

Magick Builds

At low rarity Flood Gain well feels like it is limiting your Omega usage. At high rarity and pom levels, it will feel like endless Magick.

Geyser Spout is the best Omega Cast Boon in the game. By adding base power to every Omega Cast, the damage potential is super high. Stack on any boon that buffs Omega Moves, Cast or global damage, and you're in for good time. (ex: Local Climate, Shadow Pounce, Chasm)

Ocean Swell is alright, but not great. You can think of it like a weak version of Fine Line.

Remaining Non-Core Boons

Water Fitness can massively boost your max HP. It's not uncommon to get 6 Water Elements during a run and gain +90 HP from the infusion.

Buried Treasure and Sea Star are pretty good early in a run, but if you get them late into the 3rd region or even the 4th, they won't do much for you.

When you don't need Magick, High Surf is fine, but not very impactful. Sometimes you get lucky and an enemy who was about to hit you gets knocked back, out of range.

Hydraulic Might makes clearing the first wave of enemies super easy, but being limited to 10 seconds means it's not all that great against Guardians.

Weapon Aspect Synergies

The best Weapons to pair with Poseidon:

  • Aspect of Pan, Wave Flourish triggers a storm of splashes with each Omega Special. If you manage to get Trick Knives, the splash damage deals 4-in-1 with each dash strike.
  • Aspect of Hel rapid fire during the way of the Valkyrie can inflict Splash and Froth fast than any other weapon. Leering Glance and Venerated Relic are amazing Hammers to add onto this combo.
  • Aspect of Momus: All three Omega Cast pulses will trigger Geyser Spout.
  • Aspect of Supay can utilize Wave Flourish for the orbiting Special, and fast-hitting Omega Specials. Breaker Rush utilizes the Rush Boon bonus % damage better than any other Sprint Boon. Moreover, if you manage to get Beach Ball, you don't even have to do anything other than Sprint around the map all game.

God Pairings

The best Gods to pair with Poseidon:

  • Ares for a big increase in Splash damage from Arterial Spray.
  • Apollo for Beach Ball. In case you're late to the party, you need to try this powerful Duo.
  • Demeter offers many Water Element Boons like Poseidon. Her defensive Infusion Boon, also requires 6 Water Frosty Veneer, so these two together can greatly fortify your defense.
    • Additionally, Geyser Spout and Local Climate create the best Omega Cast builds in all of Hades 2.

When to Target Poseidon

Target Poseidon when you are wielding a weapon that has low base power, but rapid Attacks are Specials.

Poseidon is a God that you want to get early in a run. In general, his Boons will have less impact when you get them late in a run because you won't have time to build around them. If you're going to have Wave Strike or Wave Flourish, then you want to get slippery slope and ideally you're going to want his legendary and duo with Ares. That typically will take you most of the run to do.

Also Buried Treasure and Sea Star have bring way more value when you get them in the first region if you're using and Omega if you already have Winter circle then geyser Sprout is amazing. When you do get Poseidon later in a run
