TLDR Typhon Guide

  • Stay at the top, right next to Typhon. When he Chin Slams, Dodge straight down.
  • Typhon's moves are very telegraphed. Go slow and watch for his attacks to come out.
  • Armor and all shields are extremely effective against Typhon because his attacks hit hard.

General Tips and Tricks

Positioning

The first thing you need to dominate Typhon, is to be fearless. Stay at the top of the map, right underneath him at all possible times. The only time you should move from this spot is to evade attacks like his Chin Slam and Exploding Eye Swarm.

Keep Your Eyes on the Eye

Every one of Typhon's attacks are heavily telegraphed. Use the GIFs and tips below to memorize the startup animation of each of his attacks. Once you've done so the fight becomes surprisingly easy.

Practice Makes Perfect

Nothing is a substitute for good ol' fashion hard work. Get your reps in and don't stress out if it takes you 100 nights and 50 battles against Typhon to finally defeat him. Remember to enjoy every run, not just every win.

Vow of Frenzy

After you've unlocked the Oath of the Unseen, you'll be able to invoke the Vows. Vow of Frenzy increases move and attack speed of all foes, including Guardians. Even at Rank 2, all the same tips will still apply, and you can dodge all of Typhon's attacks using the same methods. The only difference is that you will have less time to react and tighter windows to dodge.

Phase 1

Chin Slam

When you are close to Typhon, (where you should be (99% of the time), he will try to crush you with his giant chin. He'll lift back, wind up the chin, red sparkles on both horns and chin, then slam the ground.

Dodge straight down and you will never get chinned again!

This deals massive damage, so be extra careful not to get by this move in particular.

Tongue Laser

Typhon will cock is head to the side and stick his tongue out. The tip of his glows, then he'll sweep across the entire map.

Dodge across the laser to evade the hit.

If you are the very top and center directly under Typhon's Chin, the Laser's hitbox won't hit you. Good to know if you are close enough to reposition in time. A bit risky, as it's better to assume you always need to dodge.

Cyclones

Typhon takes a big breath in, then blows cyclones out of his mouth.

To avoid, simply run away. Even at Vow of Frenzy 2, you can always outrun the cyclones.

Note that their movement is random, but Typhon will track you. Generally, it is best to wait until they dissipate before you start your counter attack.

Eyeball Blast

w when you see Typhon Lean Forward and His Giant Center eye starts to Glow he's about to shoot his eyeball blast. The first large eyeball exploits on contact with the ground and splits into three into a cluster of three smaller eyeball bombs.

  • When airborne the eyeballs have no hitbox, they can only hurt you at the moment of impact.

The best way to evade the eyeball blast is to wait lower on the map, and Dodge straight up. Then, watch for where the clusters are about to fall and Dodge away.

Falling Eye Swarm

The best way to describe the startup animation of the falling eye swarm, is that it looks like Typhon starts laughing.

Notice where the dark circles appear on the ground below the falling eyes and avoid those areas.

During phase 1 you should be able to dodge all falling Eyes by dashing straight to the top of the map.

Eggs

Typhon turns invulnerable and fades into darkness. Then shoots eggs out of his mouth the eggs can hurt you if they land on you so stand to the side immediately unload all of your best damage on the eggs because if they hatch powerful armored enemies will spawn then you'll have to deal with them and Typhon.

Every time eggs spawn Typhon's tail or hand will follow up and attack Melinoë.

The tail (seen above) will send out a slow moving shock wave that you can Dash through, and the hand (see Phase 3 Eggs) will shoot out a straight, fast-moving Shockwave which you can also Dash through.

Phase 2 & 3

Phase 2

Once you've depleted Typhon's first hidden HP bar, Olympus comes to your aid. Typhon keeps the same moves from phase 1, but with a few enhancements and additions.

Olympus Aid

Typhon cannot attack you while his tongue is out on the ground. If you deal enough damage during this phase, he will go straight into eggs. But if you do not, then you will have to fight his 2nd Phase until you triggers Phase 3 Eggs.

Phase 3 Eggs

Typhon once again turns invulnerable and fades into the darkness.

The tail (see Phase 1 Eggs) will send out a slow moving shock wave that you can Dash through, and the hand (seen here) will shoot out a straight, fast-moving Shockwave which you can also Dash through.

Laser Double Sweep

During his final phase, Typhon's Tongue laser gains a second sweep in the opposite direction of the first.

Typhon will cock is head to the side and stick his tongue out. The tip of his glows, then he'll sweep across the entire map.

Dodge across the laser, then opposite direction to evade both sweeps.

Cluster Eye Bomb

Unlike the Phase 1 Eye Bomb, the Phase 3 immediately explodes on the ground, clusters into three eye bombs that then cluster into three more eye bombs, totaling at nine small clusters shooting out at the end.

To evade, Sprint to the bottom of the map the moment you see Typhon's eye glowing, then Dash straight up towards the top of the map to avoid all of the explosions.

Exploding Eye Swarm

The Phase 3 version, Exploding Eye swarm is the opposite of the Phase 1 version. You'll need to remember to reverse your positioning.

To evade, Sprint to the bottom of the map. The Phase 3 Exploding Eye Swarm always falls at the top of the map, explode, then send out the floaters.

Spiked Tails

Spike Tails will always begin at the bottom of the map. Since you should already be positioned at the top of the map for most of the fight, you should have plenty of time to react.

To evade the Spike Tails, banned in a location where they are not appearing so if they're at the bottom stand at the top and if they're in the middle stand at the top or bottom and throw the top stand at the bottom.

  • If if typhon's other attacks prevent you from repositioning then your best option is to wait until the tail appears beneath you and just before it begins spinning Dodge sideways through the tails to avoid taking damage

Recommended Keepsakes

Keepsakes

Luckier Tooth

  • A very common final region keepsake, Luckier Tooth grants an extra DD with a set amount of health restoration. As long as you can make it to Typhon without losing the Death Defiance, the 2nd chance can often give you the luck needed to vanquish the monstrosity.
    • Unless you are running Strength (XXIII), Luckier Tooth would be our go to recommendation for the Summit.

Knuckle Bones

  • The standard Guardian defense Keepsake. The more health you go into the fight with, the more impactful the 10% damage reduction will be. The burst of damage is nice to have as well but is unlikely to have a noticeable impact on the outcome of the encounter. The 5/10/15% hit to Typhon only impacts the HP of his first Phase, which is also the easiest Phase.
  • Still, if you don't feel you need any other Keepsakes benefits, Knuckle Bones is a fine option as your final Keepsake.
    • If you're running Strength (XXIII), it's likely a better defensive option than Luckier Tooth because it will keep Strength active.

Evil Eye

  • If the last foe you died to was Typhon, then you can equip Evil Eye to deal an extra 30% global damage to him. While you won't often be in this scenario, its a good option to remember.

Engraved Pin

  • Engraved Pin activates one time per encounter, so you are guaranteed to benefit from it during your fight with Typhon. Gaining a 10 seconds of invulnerability enables you to get a huge amount of damage in since you can spam your moves without the need to dodge.

Blackened Fleece

  • Very specific to Magick builds, but if your strategy revolves around spamming Omega Moves, then the 40% damage boost essentially means you'll defeat Typhon with 40% less Moves. If you picked up Cherished Heirloom during your run, then Blackened Fleece becomes one of the better final region Keepsake options.

White Antler

  • Three things must occur simultaneously before you should equip White Antler.
    • First, you need to have an extremely high damage build already put together.
    • Second, you should have armor, Death Defiance's, and invulnerability like The Lovers (XV) and Snow Queen.
    • Last, and most important, you need to be very confident in your ability to evade all of Typhon's attacks since you are going to be limited to 30 health.
    • When all 3 of these conditions are met, White Antler can be the best Keepsake to take into the Typhon fight, because the damage is so unbelievably high, you'll burn through Typhon's phases so quickly that he'll barely have time to attack you.
