Overview

Hecate, the Guardian of Erebus, is the first true trial standing between you and the depths of the Underworld. More than just a foe, she is your mentor, and will test your reflexes, awareness, and mastery of combat to ensure you are ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

In this guide, we’ll break down her full moveset, from her opening, attack Crossed Flames, to her morph curse. You'll find clear strategies for dodging, positioning, and counterattacking. With this knowledge, you’ll step into the arena prepared and ready to outmaneuver your teacher and claim your first victory.

Hecate

Crossed Flames

Hecate always begins the encounter with Crossed Flames. Dash through the circle to attack her, then dash back out on its return.

Torch Blasts

The torch blasts always fire in a straight line as Hecate rotates in a circle. Try not to get caught between two illusions or it will be difficult to avoid damage. You can safely attack her from the side during this move, but sometimes it's best to wait it out.

Fire Slash

Fire slashes travel fast so you can't out Sprint them. When you see Hecate pull back and glow white dash straight through her to end up behind her and she'll miss the attack.

Illusions

When Hecate conjures two illusions of herself, you'll need to run around and hit each one until you find the real one. Watch her health bar and notice when she's takes damage. If you are unable to safely run between illusions, its best to wait until she's back to a single form.

Total Eclipse

Explosions will follow you around on the floor. Just keep Sprinting and you'll be able to out run them, even with Vow of Frenzy 2 on.

Phase 2 Reinforcements

After damage through her first phase, Hecate summons reinforcements. They have low hp, but the danger is that she'll be using Total Eclipse, Lunar Ray, or Torch Orbs at the same time.

What out for their projectiles and don't run straight at them. Instead, approach from an angle so you don't face tank the orbs.

Torch Orbs

Each Hecate illusion only fires torch orbs in one directions. If you can get near one, keep to its side or behind. When you see a line or orbs coming at you, dash sideways through them.

Twilight Curse

As soon as you trigger Hecate's second state of impervious, she'll fire out twilight curse. If hit by the ball, you will be morphed into a sheep. Avoid it at all costs.
The most consistent method is to Dash through the orb and sprint until it almost catches you, then Dash backwards, until the orb disappears.

  • If you have Frinos with you, stand with him between you and Hecate and he will absorb the orb for you!

Phase 3 Reinforcements

Phase 3 reinforcements show up while the twilight curse orb is still chasing you, and while Hecate is still using on her main attacks. Focus on dodging, and take as much time as needed to take them down one by one.

Fire Discs

Fire discs are very dangerous because you'll take a barrage of damage when caught in the line of fire.

Hecate will pull back both her torches, and do a frozen looking rotation as she tracks you. Once you see her flash white, it's time to Dash! Try to get behind her, and watch out for the return of the discs.

Lunar Ray

Hecate fires three Lunar Ray laser beams and starts spinning. You can Dash straight through the beams to evade.
