Overview

Ahri is one of the strongest carries in Set 18, and she fits into several level 8 and level 9 AP boards. This guide focuses on the level 8 Ahri Zyra board, and we'll also cover a few other Ahri boards.

How Ahri Works

Ahri's traits are Blossom and Spellweaver, both of which give her Ability Power. When Ahri casts her ability, Spirit Bomb, she throws a bomb at the spot within 4 hexes with the most enemies around it. The bomb explodes in a 3-hex radius, dealing magic damage that falls off the further enemies are from the center. This makes her really strong against boards that clump, such as Elderwood and melee comps.

Ahri has a high mana pool, so she needs mana items to get her casts off quickly. After that, she wants AP, ability crit, and damage amp. Jeweled Gauntlet lets her ability crit, and Striker's Flail gives her damage amp every time she crits, so these two items work well together. Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, and Striker's Flail or Rabadon's Deathcap are ideal. Note that utility items such as Void Staff and Morellonomicon should be on Zyra, not Ahri.

The Level 8 Board

Ahri Guide - Level 8 Board

[B4L Power Comp Guide]

This is the standard level 8 Ahri Zyra board. It's strong for a few reasons:

  1. Ahri provides AoE burst damage, and Zyra provides consistent single-target damage.
  2. Sett is a really strong tank with 2 Brawler and 3 Blossom, which both give him HP.
  3. Since you play 2 Inferno on this board, you can delay building anti-heal and focus on higher-quality items for your carries.
  4. Your frontline is flexible. You can play Shen and Amumu or Rakan and Lillia, but Shen and Amumu are generally stronger.

Rakan Lillia Variation

Ahri Guide - Rakan Lillia Variation

If you don't hit Shen and Amumu, you can play Rakan and Lillia instead. This variation is stronger with a Vanguard Emblem, so you can fit 2 Vanguard with Rakan on level 8. Without a Vanguard Emblem, you can play Taric for 2 Vanguard on level 9.

General Gameplan

This board has four 4-costs, so it takes a lot of gold to hit. Ahri is also a popular unit, so she's often contested. You'll want to either win streak or lose streak early, and we'll cover openers for both below.

How much do you roll on 8?

On Stage 4, you should roll on 8 until you 2-star Ahri and at least one 4-cost tank, preferably Sett. Hitting a 2-star Zyra is also important, since she provides the single-target damage to help Ahri kill tanky frontliners and melee carries. You'll want to roll at least once a turn for an upgraded Blossom Wisp, and once you hit your pairs, you can consider rolling for the 2-stars. This comp can cap really high on level 9 around Alune, Ivern, and Lux. If you're playing the Rakan and Lillia variation, you can also play Taric on level 9, but another damage unit is generally preferred.

Best Items

Ahri Guide - Best Items

The best items for Ahri, Zyra, Sett, Amumu, and Lillia are shown above.

Ahri wants mana and AP, so Blue Buff and Jeweled Gauntlet are her core items. For the third item, Rabadon's Deathcap and Striker's Flail both work well. Nashor's Tooth is another great mana option, but you'll need both Jeweled Gauntlet and Striker's Flail to reach her full potential.

Zyra wants Void Staff so your carries can shred the enemy tanks. After that, give her mana and AP items like Spear of Shojin, Archangel's Staff, or Rabadon's Deathcap.

Sett really likes belt items that provide HP, such as Warmog's Armor. Sterak's Gage is another strong belt item on Sett, and it's a good way to use your spare swords. Amumu wants any generic tank items, and Lillia wants mana tank items such as Protector's Vow, Adaptive Helm, and Spirit Visage. If you have any spare gloves, you can build a Thief's Gloves for Gnar.

Radiant Items and Artifacts

On Ahri, the Radiant versions of Blue Buff, Adaptive Helm, Spear of Shojin, Striker's Flail, and Jeweled Gauntlet are all strong. For Zyra, look for Radiant Archangel's Staff and Radiant Void Staff. For artifacts, Eternal Pact and Luden's Tempest are good on Ahri.

Best Openers

Blossom Opener

Ahri Guide - Blossom Opener

3 Blossom is one of the best openers for Ahri, since it helps you find upgraded Blossom Wisps. These Wisps can improve your board or your economy. On level 5, you'll usually want to play 3 Blossom, 2 Juggernaut, and 2 Spellweaver. LeBlanc is a great unit to help print units for econ or upgrades. Playing 2 Juggernaut with Yorick and Rakan also transitions smoothly into the Rakan and Lillia variation on level 8.

Coven Opener

Ahri Guide - Coven Opener

Coven is another great opener if you have to lose streak. With Coven, consider taking good econ Augments on 2-1, since you will get items from your Coven cashout. Aim for a 185 or 250 Coven cashout if possible to spike your board on Stage 4. With a high enough Coven cashout, this comp can definitely play to win the lobby on level 9.

Best Augments

Here are some of the best Augments for this board for each tier:

Silver

2-1

Best with a lose streak opener. Try to hold pairs so you can still build a reasonable Stage 3 board.

Flowing Tears

Flowing Tears

2-1

Since this comp can use a lot of Tears, this is an amazing item Augment.

Wisp Rebate

Wisp Rebate

3-2

Blossom boards buy a lot of Wisps, so the gold adds up quickly.

Bronze For Life I

This board lacks damage amp, so this Augment is a great option.

Calculated Loss

Calculated Loss

2-1

One of the best Gold econ Augments, and it pairs well with a Coven opener.

Epic Rolldown

Epic Rolldown

3-2

Helps you hit this expensive board. If you have any rolls left over, you can use one every turn to look for an upgraded Blossom Wisp.

Promised Protection

Promised Protection

2-1, 3-2

With this Augment, you'll want to try to play the Rakan and Lillia variation, since Protector's Vow is amazing on Lillia.

Seraphim's Staff

Seraphim's Staff

2-1, 3-2

Archangel's Staff is great on both Zyra and Ahri, and the extra Mana Regen helps them cast more.

Time Skip

Solid econ Augment that gets you to level 8 and 9 faster.

With 6 frontliners and 2 backliners, this Augment provides a lot of damage for both Ahri and Zyra.

Wand Overflow

Wand Overflow

3-2, 4-2

Ahri and Zyra can both use a lot of rods for their best items.

Positioning

Default Positioning

Ahri Guide - Default Positioning

In this comp, you'll generally want to position Ahri in D3, D4, or D5 so she can get the most value from her ult. Position Zyra in the corner on the same side as Ahri, and make sure your strongest itemized tank is also on that side. You'll usually want Ahri on the same side as the enemy carry if possible. That way, Ahri can blow up the enemy backline carries, and Zyra on the same side will help kill the melee carries.

You should also try to have at least one of the Inferno units on the same side as Ahri and Zyra so they can provide anti-heal. Amumu and Lillia should always be positioned in front of enemy melee carries to CC them.

When you find Gnar, try to position him in the second row on the same side as the enemy clump or carry so he can knock them up when he ults.

Capping the Board

Ahri Guide - Level 9 Options

On level 9, you can add Ivern, Lux, Alune, or Taric (if you're playing the Rakan and Lillia variation). Alune is typically the best option, since she provides boardwide combat strength with Attuned. If you're playing the Rakan and Lillia variation, Fae Lux is an amazing addition for 4 Fae, which provides a lot of damage and healing.

Other Ahri Boards

Ahri Morgana

Ahri Guide - Ahri Morgana

[Bloom and Doom Comp Guide]

If you find an Invoker Emblem, this is a very strong Ahri Morgana board. On level 8, you can play a 2-star Hecarim until you find Taric. Morgana's best items are the utility items, Void Staff and Morellonomicon, along with one AP item. To cap this board on level 9, drop Karma for Alune and Ashe. You should put the Alpha Mark on Sentinel for the Mana Regen, so your units can cast as often as possible. If you're lacking Shred, you can play Kog'Maw for another Invoker until you can build the items.

Ahri Executioners

Ahri Guide - Ahri Executioners

[Blossom.Exe Comp Guide]

If you have an Executioner Emblem, you can play this board. Ahri holds the Executioner Emblem along with mana and AP items, such as Blue Buff and Rabadon's Deathcap. Ezreal can hold any AD items, and Soraka can hold leftover AP and utility items.

6 Spellweaver

Ahri Guide - 6 Spellweaver

[Weave Got This Comp Guide]

If you have a Spellweaver Emblem, you can play this board. On level 8, play 6 Spellweaver, 2 Brawler, and 2 Defender with the Spellweaver Emblem on Lillia. Ahri should hold your main damage items, and Cassiopeia can hold any utility items. On level 9, you can cap your board around Gnar, Alune, and Lux. Any extra tank items or mana items are great since Spellweaver units gain more AP from casting their abilities.
