Intro

In this new player guide for Elden Ring Nightreign, we have you covered with a continually updating list of tips and tricks.

These tips are more general so also be sure to check out these below:

Tips and Tricks

Maximize Your Weapon Passive Slots

One often overlooked part of Elden Ring Nightreign’s tutorial is item’s passive effects. Each item you pick up can spawn with effects (underlined in red). While a small handful of effects only take effect while the item is held and used (shown with a red hand icon) the vast majority stay in effect constantly.

For the best chances of success, new Nightfarers should be filling their inventories as much as possible to benefit from passive buffs.

Don’t Ignore Boluses

Players coming from Elden Ring or unfamiliar with the base game may write off boluses, like Preserving Boluses as an unneeded item at first glance. Their item description simply describes them as items that reduce statuses, and in Elden Ring that is all that they do. However, in Elden Ring Nightreign, they serve an additional purpose.

preserving boluses

Each time you consume a bolus, your resistance to the corresponding status effect increases, and makes it harder for you to accumulate that status in the future. This proves most useful for dangerous world bosses like Wormface who possess a status that can kill you instantly, as well as Nightlords like Libra who can inflict near-unavoidable status accumulation. Even if you won’t carry boluses into a boss fight, remember to eat them when you find them!

Uses Graces In The Rain For Emergency Healing And Replenishing

Sometimes you’ll find yourself racing to escape the rain, desperate for a flask refill, or a final level up before the Night Boss. Whatever the reason, sites of grace prove invaluable at night. Many Nightfarers may be unaware, but Sites of Grace still function in the rain for a brief period (approximately ten seconds)

During this time, they can fully refill both your heal and your focus points. Additionally, in this short period, characters can also sneak in a last-minute level up or recharge their flasks to prepare for the fights to come. If you’re low on resources and going into a tough fight, consider braving the night rain, it could be the difference between “night repelled” and defeat!

Make Full Use Of Your Map And Its Three Modes

The map is one of the most useful tools in Elden Ring Nightreign without a doubt. Placing pings down proves invaluable when playing with random players who can’t be properly communicated with.

The map serves for much more than just communication, however, you can toggle detailed mode to see a comprehensive layout of the loot each structure can give you, including weaponry.

For characters like Recluse and Revenant, this guide to finding seals and staffs is absolutely crucial.

Additionally, the down arrow on controllers can be used to toggle a second layer of the map displaying mines. For routing and avoiding the encroaching rain, this map’s usefulness can not be overstated.

Save Time By Running Through The Storm After Repelling The Night

Time is everything in a Nightreign run. With dozens upon dozens of bosses to defeat and lethal rain ready to ruin your route, even a few extra seconds can make a major difference. One common way to save a few seconds that players often ignore happens after the first night boss fight. While the boss loot selection is available for any player, the rain will not recede to allow players to explore the map, but the timer until the next night’s boss fight will not count down as well.

recluse storm

Bold Nightfarers may consider braving the storm to collect nearby loot if in a coordinated team where at least one player can willingly not take their reward. Far more widely applicable for the average player, running into the storm right after claiming your loot can save precious seconds needed to hunt down another evergoal boss or complete a remembrance objective.

Players will continue to take damage while other players select their loot and for a few seconds as the night dissipates, but one or two flasks prove more than enough to offset this damage and can be replenished at any Site Of Grace, making the investment more than worth it to gain Condemned precious time.

Make Use Of Backstabbing Attacks For Extra Damage and I-Frames

Backstabbing attacks are an inconsistent art, but a powerful one. Most useful against smaller enemies aggroed onto other creatures, a successful backstab will do a great deal more damage than one or two hits, leave the creature stunned for a time for additional attacks, and provide the player with a lengthy animation in which they are invincible.

If presented with the opportunity, it’s almost always worth going for the backstab attack rather than a frontal assault. Besides the obvious being positioned behind them, some tips for landing more consistent backstabs include holding down the light attack button during the attack and rotating your character’s direction mid-attack in an attempt to get the correct position for the attack to trigger.

Know Where To Find Hidden Chests And The Loot They Can Provide

Elden Ring Nightreign has its fair share of secret chests hidden throughout its many structures decorating the map. Containing powerful buff items, boluses, and on occasion, rare armaments and stonesword keys, it’s worth opening every one you can find!

chests

The two most valuable chests are found behind the tombs on the open-air level of great churches - with an abnormally high chance of dropping a Stonesword Key - and the chest found on the middle level of certain forts which often drops an extra common perk as if you’d just killed a low level boss. Additional treasures of lower rarity but higher number can be found throughout camp structures, treasure rooms in ruins & castles, and in the lowest regions of mines.
