Tier List Maker

Taking the general use case of weapons into account, here is a general tier list of all legendary and Pearlescent weapons in Borderlands 4.

Criteria

Placements are derived from what the weapons can actually bring to a build be it utility or power. Obviously all tier lists have a level of subjectivity based on how an idividual values a certain setup or ability. My personal driving criteria is 'Contribution to content clear rate.' How fast can a weapon take you from A to B in either mobbing or bosses (whatever it's better at) with bonus points for doing both, this can be quantified using 'applicable DPS'. ie, how much DPS can the weapon output that can be realistically applied in gameplay, with it's perks and uptimes taken into account. The ability to get it's best use case on multiple characters vs maybe just 1 character is also taken into account.

Difficulty to use and skill ceiling is not considered. A weapon that is difficult to use mechanically is not punished, unless it would realistically slow the player down.

Example: I'm not exactly punishing the Truck because you have to aim it, but I am going to reward the Stray because you don't need to aim it while it also just hits everything all at once, while Truck is stuck to 1 target at a time + ricochet.

Example: while Crow-Sourced and Convergence have comparable DPS outputs, Convergence can roll Jakobs, allowing it to apply it's damage to multiple enemies at once. Both weapons have similar downtimes (max sizes, charge times), so this one difference makes Convergence better in my eyes.

Random Extra Notes

Don't take the placement within a bracket too seriously, esp further down the list. I do generally place weapons towards the start or end of a bracket to indicate "high A tier" or "low B tier" but beyond that this game has too many situations, builds, characters, use cases, scenarios, etc to have a perfect linear ranking.

This list was made to be a general guide to what weapons are worth looking at, especially within its own use case.

Just because a weapon is further down the list one would personally like, doesn't mean it's bad, just that there are likely better alternatives. For example I love the Hellwalker I think it's amazing and I use it to mob on TRUE VH6, yet can recognise it does get carried by the build and there are better options.

There are a few exclusions like Frangible which doesn't exist and Matador's Match because it's lvl 1 locked. So they aren't listed.

Commentary

My Credentials:

I'm LazyData, been playing Borderlands for 16 years, 13k franchsie hours, over 1k at time of writing in BL4. I've won #TheHunt a few times, the one and only Twitch Rivals competition, and held many world records through each Borderlands game in endgame speedrunning blah blah blah.

I have managed and hosted endgame speedrunning competitions in all Borderlands 2, BL3 and BL4. So when it comes to endgame metas it's something I literally had to keep up with to be able to accurately verify submitted runs and world records.

Special thanks to GIRTHQUAKE and the SOUP KITCHEN discord for being a centralised location to house all the weapon, item, and character testing so we as a community, and your favourite youtubers know how the game actually works. A remotely accurate list would not be possible with it.

Notes

THIS IS A CONTINUOUS WIP

A list I keep up for personal use. It was suggested to me that this would be a good public resource so don't kill me because I think the Luty Madlad having lower DPS without reloads than a Bully WITH reloads without any extra perks, niches, or firing patterns / unique boosts makes it a bad gun. It just is. It gets carried by builds. The ability to recognise what is getting build carried and what isn't is important.

Don't read too much into the tier names I have set up please. It's a surface level summary.
