Build Overview

This is the Reap Blood Mage build I have been playing for the last week. This build features some of the most incredibly satisfying full screen Shatter chains by making use of a high damage Skill, Reap along with Trampletoe. We scale Maximum Life and Critical Damage to get over 1 Million Tooltip Damage

Important Note

This is NOT a League Start build and requires about 5-10 Divines minimum to get up and running. This guide assumes this isn't your first character of the league and you have some Gold, Greater Jeweller's Orbs and Tier 5 Support Gems stashed away

Leveling

I discuss this in the various sections of the build, but recommend checking out Deadrabbit's ED Contagion for ideas on early leveling: https://mobalytics.gg/poe-2/builds/chaos-dot-lich-starter-deadrabbit

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Extremely Satisfying Playstyle
  • Full-Screen Chain Explosions
  • Can Run All Map Mods
  • Scales to Deal Massive Damage
  • Fun Crafts
  • Laggy
  • Low Movement Speed (can get higher, but very expensive)

Build Variants

This is the lower budget version of the build that will cost around 5-10 Divines, with Kaom's Heart taking up most of the budget.

Budget - Level 68-89

For most Rare gear pieces, we are looking for high Maximum Life, Strength, Resistances and Attributes. The following listed modifiers are all the useful ones on the gear we're looking for - it's not possible to have all of them, but keep your eyes peeled

Weapon - Reaping Staff

We are using a Reaping Staff which grants us access to the Reap skill. Until Level 90 when we can equip a Staff that grants Level 20 Reap, you only have access to 4 Support Sockets. The following are modifiers to look out for on your Staff:

Prefixes

  • Damage as Extra Elemental
  • Spell Damage or Spell Physical Damage

Suffixes

  • Level of All Spell Skills/Physical Spell Skills
  • Cast Speed
  • Critical Spell Damage Bonus
  • Critical Hit Chance for Spells

Sockets

Greater Iron Rune for % Spell Damage or Greater Vision Rune for Spell Crit Chance

Crafting Guide

You can also check out my Budget Reap Staff Craft - you can make a cheap one for a couple Divines which might be worth it, even on a lower level base

Boots - Trampletoe

Trampletoe are extremely important and are the foundation of the shatter chains you see with these Boots. Try to buy a pair with a 5% increased Movement Speed Corruption and an open Socket

Sockets: Greater Iron Rune. Use Resistance Runes if necessary.

Body Armour - Kaom's Heart

Kaom's Heart - if you're on a low budget, you can purchase a 2 Socket Corrupted one with a lower Life roll until you can afford a better one (currently ~4-5 Divines). Otherwise buy one with 1500 Life and 2 Sockets.

Sockets: Greater Iron Rune or Soul Core of Jiquani if you can afford it. Use Resistance Runes if necessary.

Helmet - Rare (Energy Shield or Armour or Hybrid Armour/ES)

You can use a Veil of the Night, which grants massive #% increased Maximum Life which increases our damage, but I Found this very squishy and instead recommend a Helmet with high Maximum Life and Resistances and Strength. This can be an Energy Shield or Armour or hybrid base

Sockets: Greater Iron Rune or use Resistance Runes if necessary.

Rings

Seed of Cataclysm is excellent for damage early on, but use a Rare Ring with Resistances if you need to (and aren't using Veil of the Night). Try to get ones with high Critical Spell Damage Bonus and Critical Hit Chance for Spells

Amulet - Rare

Anoint Options Early: Barbaric Strength

Prefixes

  • Life, % increased Maximum Life

Suffixes

  • Level of All Spell Skills (Most Important)
  • Critical Damage Bonus / Critical Hit Chance
  • Attributes (Strength/Intelligence/Dexterity)
  • Resistances

Base: Amber Amulet, Bloodstone Amulet and Stellar Amulet are great, but take what you can get at this stage

Gloves - Rare (Energy Shield or Armour or Hybrid Armour/ES)

Prefixes

  • Maximum Life, Hybrid Life

Suffixes

  • Resistances
  • Strength/Intelligence
  • Critical Damage Bonus

Belt - Rare

Prefixes

  • Maximum Life

Suffixes

  • Strength
  • Resistances

Reap

We gain access to Reaping Staffs and Reap at Level 38. You can use this immediately in Act 3, but initially the damage and clear are fairly lackluster compared to our other Skills. Once you've scaled enough Critical Hit Chance and Bonus, you'll start experiencing the real shatter chains from Trampletoe. Just make sure you're paying attention to when new tiers of Reaping Staves with higher Levels of Reap appear if you do choose to level with this Skill

  • Level 10-14 Reap: Requires Level 38-58 - 3 Support Sockets

Level 57 - Important Breakpoint: Perfect Essence of Sorcery, which grants a massive +5 to Level of All Spell Skills, has a Level Requirement of 57. It's a good idea to use one of these on a Reaping Staff once you hit this breakpoint

  • Level 15-19 Reap: Requires Level 64 - 4 Support Sockets
  • Level 20 Reap: Requires Level 90 - 5 Support Sockets

Cast Speed

Cast Speed and Skill Speed is incredibly important for making Reap feel good. Early on, the skill feels quite sluggish and unimpressive, but really begins to shine once all the pieces fall into place and you're dealing enough damage

Bone Cage

Bone Cage linked with Astral Projection is excellent to assist with damage and clear speed, especially in the Campaign. Astral Projection Support allows us to cast this Spell at a distance so we don't have to constantly be at close range to enemies. We continue to use this in the endgame

Bonestorm

Bonestorm is our single-target Spell during the Campaign and even into the early endgame until our Reap catches up in damage

Vulnerability

Vulnerability can be used to Curse bosses, reducing their Armour

Leveling

I highly recommend checking out Deadrabb1t's ED Contagion Lich Build Guide to get an idea of which skills to use while Leveling. Don't forget to make use of any Greater Jeweller's Orbs and Tier 5 Supports to get a head start on the campaign

  • Contagion is great early for clear
  • Essence Drain is also useful in the first few areas of the Campaign

Level 14 Onwards

  • Bone Cage can be used very early as this is a Tier 3 Skill Gem - you can start using this from Level 5.
  • Bonestorm is accessible as a Tier 5 Skill Gem and can be used from Level 14. You can start using this for damage against Bosses and tanky Rare monsters

Very early on, you can compare the damage of Support Gems like Pinpoint Critical and Supercritical against the above suggested Gems. Ambush can also be nice for clear on Reap early on if it means you can one-shot packs of enemies

The Notable Priority above is correct, so follow it to know which Points to allocate when

We rush for Critical Hit Chance and Critical Bonus Notables as soon as possible. Bonestorm and Bone Cage both have an incredible 15% base Critical Hit Chance, making any increases to our Critical Hit Chance very impactful early on.

How it Plays

Movement Speed Improvement

One of the problems with the build is that it struggles with low Movement Speed. There are some ways we can sort this out though

  • Trampletoe with a 5% increased Movement Speed Corruption and an Empty Socket which you can place a Farrul's Rune of the Chase
  • From Nothing with Vaal Pact allows us to allocate Light on your Feet and Momentum
  • Anoint Gem Enthusiast and have 10 Green Supports
  • Darkness Enthroned with Boot Effect with two Farrul's Rune of the Chase
  • Rite of Passage with Possessed by the Wolf (or any of the Yellow Beasts - Cat and Stag)
  • In Qimah in the Interlude you can change your Permanent Buff to 3% increased Movement Speed
