Update (Jun 29)

Collapsing Horrizon:

  • Updated Collapsing Horizon after playing on Sadist's Mercy
  • Tried Cast on Critical with Comet, works fine, so have to remove Idol of the Martyr to fit it. Instead using Thane Myrk's Rune of Summer and Lady Hestra's Rune of Winter that add decent amount of Damage for attacks
  • No changes to tree, if you want to try Sadist's Mercy, tree stays same, you only swap Weapons and Skills
  • Currently Collapsing Horizon feel slightly worse because Grip of Kulemak mod for double Power doesn't work, once fixed it should be much better
  • Detonate Dead feels great for clearing, overall better than Fireball, except when there's no corpses to detonate

Sadist's Mercy:

  • Changed skills, build doesn't really need Hammer of the Gods or Perfect Strike because they're slow, so i just removed them
  • Tried Earthshatter and it works really good on single target
  • Changed Fireball to Detonate Dead. Sure Fireball looks more fun, but Detonate Dead does many many times more damage when clearing
  • Changed tree slightly, removed Raw Power to take Hallowed which makes big difference and stops you from being stunned by every mob -_-
  • Added Megalomaniac that is better than Rare Sapphire, as long as it has 2 useful passives, you can find Trade link for that below in Equipment section

Overall:

  • IMPORTANT: Ultimate Life Flask can roll Prefix "#% Increased Life Recovered/Removes 15% of Life Recovered from Mana when used" that goes up to 100% Increased Life Recovered. Downside is ignored because Flask is never used and we have Blood Magic
*It also cost much cheaper than "#% Increased Amount Recovered" that only goes to 80% and cost 8-10 Div for 76% roll
  • Grip of Kulemak mod for Double Power unfortunately doesn't work, and unknown when will be fixed, but afaik devs aware about it
  • I'll swap back to Collapsing Horizon to make some improvements after playing on Sadist's Mercy

*End of update

About Build

  • Made around underused Fire Spell on Hit, for a reason, it's not that strong because it's really hard to scale Spell Damage without +# to Levels since you're using Melee Weapon
  • And because of that i decided to make it work, original version from 0.4 turned out to be very strong, it was Wyvern with Flame Breath that worked really well with Fire Spell on Hit and Cast on Elemental Ailment casting insane number of Fireball and Comet. But in 0.5 this build was fully nuked, now Flame Breath generate almost no energy
  • Now this build is weaker but still fun, has 2 versions, one with Collapsing Horizon and other with Sadist's Mercy
  • Collapsing Horizon grant +4 Levels to Spells which is only source of +# to Spell Levels out of all Melee Weapons, it also halves required energy to trigger and has high Crit Chance which works well for Cast on Critical (Didn't try it yet). But it has big downside - very low base Damage, so you have to get all bits of Damage for attacks you can get in order to make it work well, which is possible
  • And Sadist's Mercy overall is good weapon with high Damage and Crit Chance, but it also applies debuff that increases enemy Power by 1 per stack, at maximum roll you need only 2 attacks to apply 10 Stacks which will make Normal mobs have 11 Power instead of 1 which literally makes you generate 11 times!! as much energy. But it has downside too - it's Mace, even that it's good. But fortunately Sunder, Mace Strike and Earthshatter feel good enough to use on this build
  • While Fire Spell on Hit cost no Mana or Life to trigger, build uses Cast on Critical, and to sustain it and just have good time, build uses Reverie with Shavronne's Satchel. Build has over 800Life(ES)/sec, that amount feels enough for Cast on Critical with Blood Magic and build feels fairly tanky with 800ES regen, but vulnerable to oneshots and heavy stuns from sprin because of low ES

Useful links

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Use Collapsing Horizon that is one of most offmeta weapons currently
  • Play one of least popular ascendancies
  • Be true offmeta GIGACHAD
  • Bossing is surprisingly good
  • Cheap
  • Build isn't that powerful to do stuff like 200% Deli maps, but this is as much as i could squeeze from hybrid Spell/Attack damage build on low/mid budget

Build Variants

VERY IMPORTANT

Make sure to take 30% Increased Life Recovery from Flasks in Abandoned Prison in Act 4!!!

Variant made around Collapsing Horizon, that basically halves needed Energy to trigger Spells, and add +4 Levels to Fireball or Living Bomb

It can use Cast on Critical + Comet by removing Idol of the Martyr, but i didn't test it yet, currently playing variant with Sadist's Mercy

Lock your Weapon to both Weapon Sets by Rightclicking on Weapon Set icon above Weapon Slot!

Weapon

  • Collapsing Horizon with +4 Levels and high Crit. Preferably 3 Sockets
  • Idol of the Martyr for 40% Energy Gain, Saqawal's Rune of the Sky for 5% Extra Damage for Each Element which is very important, and third rune just Greater Iron Rune to get more Phys Damage for Leech

Weapon Set 2

  • Any Mace with Warcry Cooldown
  • Eyes of the Runefather

Helmet

  • Fairly simple here, Crown of Eyes, preferably 2 sockets
  • Tzamoto's Soul Core of Ferocity for +4 Max Rage, Soul Core of Tacati for Chaos Resistance, or Fire Resist Rune

Body Armor

  • Reverie, important to get as close to 40% Less Life Flask Recovery
  • It can have useful Corrupts like 3 Sockets or Enchants like +1% Max Resists
  • Since we use Shavronne's Satchel to get ES Recovery from Life Flask, using Stoat Idol to get 5% ES bypass makes Damage you take spread between Life and ES effectively increasing your Recovery from Flask
  • Other Rune is Greater Vision Rune for Increased Recovery, since base ES is very low, using Greater Iron Rune has very little effect
  • Craiceann's Rune of Warding is also great option

Gloves

  • Maligaro's Virtuosity with 2 Sockets, on average it's cheaper to Vaal it yourself

Boots

  • High Energy Shield with Movespeed
  • Search any Elemental Resistances, as much as possible, then use Blazing Flux to transform it all to Fire Resistance, which on Smith of Kitava is huge because of Coal Stoker

Amulet

  • Yoke of Suffering is one of very few options to increase damage for both Attacks and Spells
  • There's plenty of good Instils, but Evocational Practitioner should be best for Trigger Rate

Rings

  • Rare Ruby Ring with atleast 2 good flat Damage Mods (Any) and 2 high tier Resists to use Blazing Flux, if you can't cap Resists, then have to use Runes in Helmet or Body Armor
  • Grip of Kulemak with "Targets affected by Abyssal Wasting in your Presence have double Power" and one of many useful mods it can roll, which you can find here, for example:
    - (10—20)% chance to gain Onslaught for 3 seconds when you kill an enemy affected by Abyssal Wasting
    - Abyssal Wasting also applies (-15—-10)% to Fire Resistance
    - (30—40)% increased maximum Energy Shield / (15—25)% faster start of Energy Shield Recharge
    - Any Extra Damage
    - And few more useful mods

Belt

  • Shavronne's Satchel, as close to 20% Flask Life Recovery Rate
  • Since we're Smith of Kitava, getting +3% Max Fire Res Corrupted Enchant will also get us +3% Max Cold and Lightning Res from Forged in Flame

Jewels

  • Heroic Tragedy (Vorana version) is fairly good option to get more Energy Shield by getting Keystone called Black Scythe Training which grant 1% Energy Shield per 2 Strength, which in my case give me ~70% Energy Shiel
  • From Nothing (Bulwark) to get Heavy Drinker and small passives
  • Heart of the Well with Extra Cold + Extra Lightning Damage, also it can have +1% Max Fire Res
  • Rare Sapphire with Spell Damage, Crit Chance and %ES

Charms

  • Ngamahu's Chosen sometimes will give you max rage when you take fire damage, kinda useful
  • Sanguis Heroum against bleeding
  • Nascent Hope

Flasks

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Ultimate Life Flask with 95%+ Increased Life Recovered
  • Lavianga's Spirits

Notes

  • You might likely don't have enough Strength to use Level 19+ Infernal Cry, just use highest you can
  • This is my first time playing Quarterstaff, but i guess those skills are best options for this build, Whirling Assault currently is best option, Gathering Storm looks cool and does some damage
  • On weapon set 2 only Infernal Cry that grant a lot of Empowers to boost Attack Damage for better Energy buildup
  • Blasphemy with Elemental Weakness
  • Yes, Elemental Weakness works in Fire Spell on Hit, but it adds another spell to sequence lowering trigger rate of Fireball and Living Bomb

Jun 19, 2026: Made Fire Spell on Hit work again with Collapsing Horizon, not as good as old Wyvern, but that's what we have
