Overview

Updated for 0.5

This guide will help any New Player to have good start in PoE 2, to learn things you normally learn too late, and give general idea of progression and stuff.

Note that prices of stuff in this guide won't be accurate for long, economy changes and all, but general idea stays same.

For example, some things New Player literally can't know:

  • In 99.9% cases New Player will not know that low level Spirit/Skill Gems cost a lot of Exalts, because we unlock Currency Exchange only in Act 4, long after you start getting those low level Spirit/Skill Gems without knowing their value.
  • And even then, very and very few New Players going to open Currency Exchange to specifically check prices of low level Uncut Gems they have.

Guide

Item Filter and Price Checking Macro

Item Filter is one of most important things to get, even during campaign!

To find Item Filters, head to PoE 2 Item Filter Ladder to see list of Filters that Community made.

Safe option will be going with Neversink filters, 2-3 during Campaign, 4 to 6 in Maps.

Item Filter will help you with clearing Maps faster by not spend time picking something worthless, and will make sure you never miss something valuable!

(Optional) Price Checking macro, even during campaign!

In 0.5 GGG added option to price check items without external tools, but if you wouldn't like to use it, you can try existing for long time 3rd party tools

For example Exiled Exchange 2 that allow to quickly price check items without doing it manually by typing name of Unique Item, or checking mods of Rare Item

You simply press Ctrl + Alt + D while hover mouse on item, window pops up where you can select which of Mods to check to find fairly accurate price of Rare Item

Campaign

First thing you can do very early is saving all Low Level Uncut Spirit/Skill Gems, some of which may cost a lot of currency, for example:

Uncut Spirit Gems, prices as of Jun 16 (0.5):

  • Level 4: ~40ex
  • Level 8: ~160ex
  • Level 9: ~80ex
  • Level 14: ~60ex
  • Other between Level 5 and 13 cost between 10 and 20 ex

Uncut Skill Gems, prices as of Jun 16(0.5):

  • Level 1: ~45ex (Not that easy to get tho)
  • Level 7: ~25ex
  • Other between level 2 and 14 cost between 1 and 5 ex

But note that you get access to Currency Exchange only in Act 4, so only then you can start selling saved Uncut Gems. On league start prices will be much lower because everyone started league and everyone getting and using those Uncut Gems, but after a while people will want low level Skills so price will raise.

Early Mapping

Now you should have decent budget to work with from selling Uncut Gems. Your first goal on any build is getting Elemental Resists to 75%. And then you start doing Maps.

Low Tier Maps don't really make much Currency because you have no Atlas Passive Points, and low level Item Bases have no value in Crafting.

So basically your main goal is reaching T15 Waystones, and getting Atlas Passive Points from Questlines and getting Atlas Points, while buying cheap upgrades, mainly for Weapon, along the way.

Your main goals and tips when doing Early Mapping:

  • Start completing Questlines for each mechanic like Breach, Ritual, etc, completing those will reward you with Atlas Passive Points. They have fixed positions on Atlas, so you not need to search them
  • Then you can build your Atlas Passive Tree depending on what you want to farm early, because in endgame you will be able to allocate ENTIRE Atlas Passive Tree anyway!
  • No rush, but try to reach T15 Waystones, buying Waystones from Doryani helps a lot if you stuck at one Tier of Waystones
  • To make it easier to climb to T15 Waystones, use Precursor Tablet, which increase Area Level by one, basically same as if you had Waystone one Tier higher
  • Once you reach T15 Waystones and can run them with no issues, you can start next phase.
  • Of course pickup Tiered Item drops, sometimes you can get decent stuff
  • Also when you will find Heavy Belt with Normal Rarity that will likely be highlighted by your Item Filter, don't do anything to it, just sell, people buy them to use Chance Orbs to get Headhunter

Mid/Early Endgame Mapping

At this point you should be anywhere between level 80-85, with decent chunk of Exalts and possibly Divines.

Your Character should be strong enough to complete 4th Trial.
- Trial of Sekhemas is usually easier and much cheaper per attempt than Temple of Chaos.
- HIGHLY recommend buying cheap Relics to reach 75% Honour Resist.

  • At this point you should be able to beat Arbiter of Ash with not much problem to unlock Atlas Passive Tree
  • Around this time you can start get into Crafting, and for that i have Low Budget Crafting Guide, that you can use to craft cheap upgrades, or craft something to sell.
  • Pickup high level Normal Rarity Bases:
    - Vile Robe or Ancestral Tiara and other high level ES Gear.
    - Caster Weapons, Martial Weapons
    - Amulets like Gold Amulet, Solar Amulet or Stellar Amulet
    - Rings like Ruby Ring, Gold Ring and other.
    - Use Perfect/Greater Transmutation/Augmentation Orbs, often you will get good stuff on ES Armor, rarely you will hit +2-3 Levels on Amulet, +4-6 Levels on Caster Weapons or high %Phys Damage on Martial Weapons.
  • You also can start flipping items, for example buying high rolled popular Unique Rings or Amulet to add Quality and resell, as long as it's profitable. To find what items as popular, head to PoE2ninja
  • Another example of flipping: buy cheap Unique, that will cost a lot if using Vaal Orb reroll values on that Unique above it's normal maximum, add good Corrupted Enchant, or +1 Socket.
    Example from 0.4:
    - Essentia Sanguis cost ~20 Ex, if you Corrupt it and hit +1 Socket, now it cost 250 Ex with 2 Sockets.
    - Andvarius cost ~45 EX, if you Corrupt it and it reroll Rarity above ~75%, you get ~6 Div Ring
    - And a lot more, doing this with Amulets not really worth because it's hard to sell Amulet with no Instil or with specific Instil.
    - Important note: from 0.5 when you want to use Vaal Orb to reroll modifiers on Unique above their maximum, original values do matter before you hit Vaal Orb
  • Do more maps til you reach around Level 90, when Endgame begins.

Endgame Mapping

Now it's time to do Juiced 6 Mod T15 Waystone with 3/4 Rare Tablets.

There's many farming strategies, in 0.5 you can farm pretty much anything and it will make money, it feels much better than when back in 0.4 Abyss was much better than other mechanics

Notes

  • While Abyss seems simple, there's couple very important things you should know:
    - Rare Mobs from Abyss have one of specific Abyss Modifiers, one of which is Amanamu's Void
    - Rare Monster with Amanamu's Void has high Chance of dropping Omen of Echoes/Omen of Light, if you kill that monster outside of dark fog area they spawn.
  • To make it even more crazy, if you found Abyss Rare with Amanamu's Void, don't kill it, clear rest of normal Rare Mobs on Map without touching Azmeri Spirits, then Azmeri Spirits should target that Amanamu's Void rare, which potentially can drop multiple Omens of Light, back in 0.4 it happened once to me, few times i had multiple Omens of Echoes
  • While farming, you can also continue Crafting using my Low Budget Crafting Guide, or move into more advanced and far more expensive Crafting.
  • As well as Expensive Flipping/Corrupting Uniques.
  • And even gambling, for example:
    - Buying Unrevealed Heart of the Well and reveal it with Omen of Echoes
    - Buying Unidentified Unique Jewels that can possibly roll something expensive like From Nothing or Controlled Metamorphosis.
    - Or any Unidentified Unique that has many variations that can cost from nothing to many Divines.
