Build Overview

DO NOT RUSH WITH GOING FROM LEVELING TO Cast on Critical SETUP! Stay at leveling setup as long as it works. Spec to Cast on Critical around lvl75+, or sooner if you have good gear.

Shortly about build:

  • Effortless bossing with Time Freeze that completely stop bosses from doing anything.
  • Very good to farm both Trials.
  • Good DPS at low budget.
  • Clearing is safe but not fast, become better with more investment.
  • Fairly tanky with Temporal Chains and Apex of the Moment that make mobs around very slow.
  • Become fairly strong at relatively low budget, setup in video costed me ~6Div. At the time (Feb 2025), it cost around 2-3Div.

How build works:

  • When you do Critical Hits with Frostbolt, Eye of Winter or Frost Wall, it builds up energy for Cast on Critical which cast Comets.
  • The way Cast on Critical work:
    - First, Cast on Critical has 10 maximum energy per 0.1 sec of base cast time of skill it trigger. So in this case it's Comet that has 1 sec base cast time, which means Cast on Critical has 100 maximum energy. So once you got 100 energy from doing Critical Hits, it trigger Comet.
    - Then it gain 1 Energy per power of Enemy you hit with Crits.
    Enemy power is static value, Normal mobs have 1 Power, Magic mobs have 2 Power, Rare mobs have 5 Power and Unique have 20 Power.
    - Energy gain also modified by percentage of enemy Ailment Threshold your Critical Hits deal.
    Basically speaking Ailment Threshold - Enemy Max Life, so more damage you have - more energy you get for Cast on Critical.

Build Variants

Low budget setup for ~2-5 Divs.

Controlled Metamorphosis Jewel in top middle socket with Medium-Small ring radius.

Allocate Inescapable Cold, Endless Blizzard and optionally Stormbreaker with weapon set 1 points.

Allocate Master of Hexes and Lingering Whispers with normal points.

List of items, and mod priority on them.

  • Wand:
    1. +#% to Cold/All skills, Crit Chance for spells and Mana.
    2. Spell damage, Mana regen and any other damage mods.
  • Scepter (Set 1):
    1. Malice on implicit, good amount of Spirit, like 170+, but more better. If you get 206+ Spirit Scepter, don't need any on Body Armor.
    2. Mana and Mana regen and Int.
    3. Presence Area of Effect.
  • Scepter (Set 2):
    Rattling Sceptre, Mana and Mana regen. Spirit is not important.
  • Shield (Set 2):
    - Arvil's Wheel for duration of Time Freeze.
    - Crest of Ardura for lower cooldown of Time Freeze.
  • Helmet:
    1. Decent Energy Shield like 200+.
    2. Good Mana, like 100+, more better.
    3. Good resists.
    4. If you can, Rarity or Int.
  • Body Armour:
    1. Whatever Spirit you need to reach 206 in total with Scepter.
    2. Preferably get 206+ Spirit Scepter so don't need any on Body Armor.
    3. Highest Energy Shield for your budget.
    4. Any good resists.
    5, If possible Int.
  • Gloves:
    1. Slow Magnitude corrupted enchant, rolls up to 30%.
    2. Any good amount of mana you can find.
    3. Preferably pure Int base with energy shield.
    4. Any good mods, like int, resists, crit damage.
  • Boots:
    1. Good amount of Mana, Movement Speed, and Resists.
    2. Highest possible amount of Energy Shield you can find for your budget.
  • Amulet:
    The Everlasting Gaze with good roll of last mod. Once again, when searching it on trade, set price to exalts, and set price limit to whatever you want and sort by roll of last mod clicking on that mod on trade page.
    Icebreaker for budget instil. Or one of cheap DPS instils but then use Charm for Freeze Immune.
    Dynamism as best DPS instil, not cheap.
  • Rings:
    1. High Mana roll with Mana regen.
    2. If needed strength, Dex or Int.
    3. Any good amount of Resists.
    Make sure to use Neural Catalysts for Mana quality on Rings and Amulet.

    Snakepit (Left slot) for clearing, so preferably cap resists without one of rings.
  • Belt:
    Mana with Resists.
  • Jewels:

    Controlled Metamorphosis Jewel in top middle socket with Medium-Small ring to take Inescapable Cold, Endless Blizzard, Master of Hexes, Lingering Whispers and optionally Stormbreaker.

    1. 2-3 Jewels with "Recover 2% Mana on kill".
    2. Effect of Auras from your skills, it stacks with Effect of Curses, but roll up to 10%.
    3. Effect of Curses, roll only up to 5%, so priority on previous mod. Jewels with both are rare and expensive.
    4. Crit damage or/and Crit damage with spells.
    5. Any other type of damage that will work, spell, cold, etc.
    6. Cast speed, area of effect of curses or maximum energy shield.
    7. Few other less useful mods.

If skeletons don't spawn when you swap, disable Archmage for set 2 to have spirit to spawn skeletons.

Use Leverage instead of Ambush for Frostbolt on bosses.

For ascendancy, either Quicksand Hourglass for clearing, or Now and Again for single target to have lower cooldown on Time Freeze and 33% chance for it to not go on cooldown.

Alternatively you can drop some of curse effect passives to get more AoE instead, like Reverberation and Roil.

Set 1 for damage, set all skills only for weapon set 1 except Conductivity and Soul Offering.

Set 2 for duration of Time Freeze, Soul Offering and Conductivity, have to swap manually on bosses.

How it Plays

Clearing options:

  • Frostbolt with Snakepit ring. Just spam Frostbolt.
  • Frostbolt with or without Snakepit, swap Comet on Cast on Critical with Frost Wall(Keep one you have already).
    So as you hit mobs, it trigger Frost wall, which you also hit and it trigger explosions on Frostbolt.
  • Higher budget option when you get more spirit is to use Cast on Freeze with Frost Wall instead of one you cast normally, same supports, Spell Cascade and Inevitable Critical.

Single target:

  1. Swap to set 2. Or use Conductivity which automatically swap you to set 2 if you set it only for set 2.
  2. When fight about to start use Conductivity, once boss become targetable use Time Freeze and then Soul Offering.
  3. Use Eye of Winter, place Frost Walls and hit them with Frostbolt, whatever you will use to hit walls.
  4. Hitting Frost Walls will trigger Comet, so once it triggered, it will consume a lot of mana, then quickly after that use Temporal Rift.
  5. Repeat 3 and 4 until boss dies.
