1.1 Best Teams (Updated at Chaos release week)

As weeks pass after the game’s release, the structure of endgame teams is starting to take shape. With certain trends visible in successful teams at the current stage (Hunter level 40-45, characters level 60-70)

Below, you will find the best teams that players can strive to build, to clear endgame content.

Introduction to Endgame teams

To properly build teams in NTE, we take the current hardest content as the goal

Endgame Mode: Beyond the Rails

Starting from v1.1, Beyond the Rails features two tiers of challenging content: 10 stages of permanent Fracture Circle, and 12 stages in Prime Circle that refresh with every version update (previously 10)

  • All stages - after the first 5 - require two teams, with no overlapping characters.
  • A full star clear requires beating a timer (3-5 minutes).
  • At max stage, enemies are level 90 (with max character level 80)
  • Early stages split focus between AOE and boss battles. Final two stages are bosses exclusively.
  • Stages have weaknesses to certain elements

These restrictions are what shape the endgame team building and overall META. The entry level is building 8 characters from various elements that can split into two teams. And for optional clear time, players might need to build more characters to adapt the teams to the stage restrictions.

Team Ranking Methodology

In this guide, we start with the absolute top two teams, assuming:

  • A virtual account that has access to all characters and their weapons
  • Unlimited resources to level all characters, weapons, and skills equally to
  • Perfect player skill to execute the hardest combos
  • Stage elemental weakness is not a factor

From there, we go down into teams for realistic accounts, in broader umbrellas. Then we mention the situational teams depending on stage, with alterative F2P version of them.

Best Teams for Beyond the Rail

The top teams that work together in Beyond the Rail with no restrictions goes as:

Team 1:

  • Nanally, Jiuyuan, Zero, Hotori
  • Chaos, Jiuyuan, Zero, Hathor
  • Shinku, Nanally, Zero, Hathor

Team2:

  • Lacrimosa, Sakiri Adler, Fadia

Mono Blossom Team

  • Lineup: Nanally, Jiuyuan, Zero, Hotori
  • Elements: 2x Anima + 2x Cosmos
  • Reactions: Blossom
  • Core Mechanic: Spam Blossom through constant refilling of the Esper Meter with Zero’s skill, and replicated skill with Hotori’s Ultimate.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Jiuyuan: Spawns 1 additional Blossom and increases the cap to 6.
  • Hotori: Prevents Blossom attacks from pausing during her time stop Ultimate
  • Nanally: Fires 10 smaller attacks for each Blossom spawned, and increases their attack frequency.

Analysis

The team has everything it needs, with the power of two limited characters combined. Nanally plays the main DPS, and buffs her own damage. The combo of Zero and Hotori triples the blossom triggers through instant Esper Meter refill. Jiuyuan groups enemies, enables more Buds to exist on the field, and doubles as healer with A2. Hotori is a burst DPS, a buffer through her signature Arc, and stops the stage timer during her entire rotation.

Zero can also be built for Cycle Intensity to make Blossom Buds deal high damage on their own.

There can be other teams that come close to the damage output, but considering the time stop, actual damage per second skyrockets above all.

Charge Team (Shinku or Chaos)

  • Lineup: Chaos, Jiuyuan, Zero, Hathor
  • Alternative: Shinku, Nanally, Zero, Hathor
  • Elements: 2x Lakshana + 1x Cosmos + 1x Anima
  • Reactions: Remora, Blossom, Charge
  • Core Mechanic: It's two variations, with two different main DPS, but the same core. Build Ultimate energy for Chaos or Shinku quickly through Charge reaction (Blossom hitting a target debuffed with Remora) to keep his Ultimate up, which in return unlock the full power of your main DPS. Chaos can build Crime points faster, while Shinku can unleash all her three-phase Ultimate and get back to it quickly.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Jiuyuan: Spawns 1 additional Blossom and increases the cap to 6.
  • Zero: Restore HP to active character when gaining Ultimate energy from Charge, scaling with Zero’s base ATK.
  • Hathor: Extends Remora duration from 5s to 12s. Team's Crit Rate increased by 10% against enemies affected by Remora
  • Chaos: Deals massive damage at the end of Remora, scaling with Remora duration.
  • Shinku: Gain stacking ATK buff and deal some damage in AoE with each Charge hit. Share Ultimate energy regeneration with entire team, not only active character.
  • Nanally: Blossom buds attacks every 1 second instead of every 2 seconds.

Analysis

Chaos team is mutually exclusive with Nanally’s best team and Chiz’s best team. It’s considered a sidegrade for Nanally, so you play either one of them in Beyond the Rail as they share two key supports. While Shinku version can make use of Nanally's passive to get more ATK buff stacks and more hits against enemy.

Chaos builds up for two nukes: One on his charged attack at full Crime Bar, which refills fastest after using Ultimate. While the other is automatic at the end of an extended Remora duration. This requires Chaos to take most field time to gain Crime points and energy regeneration.

Zero is a must to trigger Blossom without taking field time, while Chaos himself can trigger Remora after using his five-hit normal combo three times. Chaos’s team is the first team that requires Hathor as a support, and relies on her passive rather than her being on-field to trigger reactions. You can leave Hathor off-field most of the time without affecting the team's performance.

Jiuyuan doubles the Blossom damage, so she's best-in-slot Anima for Chaos. But she’s not a must, any Anima character can work here in trade of a slightly lower DPS. Nanally is best-in-slot for Shinku.

Lacrimosa Scorch DoT Team

  • Lineup: Lacrimosa, Sakiri, Adler, flex (Daffodill / Haniel / Baicang / Fadia)
  • Elements: 1x Chaos + 2x Incantation + flex
  • Reactions: Scorch + (Occasional Nova + Discord)
  • Core Mechanic: Stack as many DoT instances, DoT buffs, and Debuffs as possible. The core is Lacrimosa and Sakiri, with Sakiri's DoT multiplier holding the team together. Adler adds a third DoT, a third instance of Sakiri's buff, a shield, and several debuffs to enemies, without taking field time. Fourth slot is open for several amazing choices that alter the rotation but not the core concept.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Sakiri: Increases DoT taken by the enemy by 25% for each DoT they are affected by, up to 4 stacks
  • Adler: Applies one of three random debuffs alongside Scorch: -20% ATK, -10% Esper Res, +10% Break Efficiency.
  • Fadia: Drain a percentage of enemy Max HP on Triggering Nova, granting it to the team.
  • Lacrimosa: Deals burst damage when Discord is triggered on a broken target

Analysis

The team is more F2P friendly than Baicang's old Scorch team, outputs more DPS, and have an easier rotation. Lacrimosa can either replace Baicang's best team, or merge with it. In both situations it's the best team to build on the lower half of the Esper Circle.

Combining Lacrimosa's Nightmare DoT, Scorch, and Adler's skill to reach three stacks of Sakiri's buff. On top of Sakiri's ATK buff, Adler's debuffs on enemies, and Lacrimosa constant DoT refreshing while on field, the team is complete with three characters. It's proven to clear stage 12 in Beyond the Rails with three stars without a character in 4th slot.

That's why it's easier to slot Fadia as the 4th character to face-tank the stages with almost zero brain, add occasional Discord reaction, and deal off-field DPS. Other options are Daffodill for more break and quick-swap, Haniel for general ATK buff and off-field DPS, or Baicang for adding occasional 4th DoT and granting 4th instance of Sakiri buff.

Baicang can't take field time from Lacrimosa, so he play as a quick swap, and build up his Ultimate energy slowly. So he's a supplementary unit equal to other options, not above them.

Best Teams by Archetypes

Here, we explain how to build the best teams for each Archetype - beside the top two above. This section is helpful in the case of stage buffs boosting certain elements or reactions. It also fits for the majority of players who didn’t pull every single character, and have different personal preferences. It helps players reach the best way to play what they want.

Below are six distinct Archetypes, with the best team in each.

Hyper Nanally Team

  • Lineup: Nanally, Jiuyuan, Zero, Sakiri
  • Elements: 2x Anima + 1x Cosmos + 1x Incantation
  • Reactions: Blossom + Hexed
  • Core Mechanic: Relies on Nanally as main DPS, and amplifies her with ATK buffs from Sakiri and Hexed reaction. With some boost from Blossom.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Jiuyuan: Spawns 1 additional Blossom and increases the cap to 6.
  • Nanally: Fires 10 smaller attacks for each Blossom spawned, and increases their attack frequency.

This team has the best crowd control, through two grouping skills, with added CC from Sakiri. It enables Nanally to fully perform her rotation and stay on the field longer with less interruption. Switch from Nanally to Sakiri with full Esper Meter to trigger Hexed, which will replicate a portion of Nanally’s DPS.

The lineup is best when you don’t have Hotori. If some supports are not available for this team, use Adler or Haniel in place of Sakiri, or even ditch Hexed for Skia who bring Remora and Charged.

Hyper Chiz Team

  • Lineup: Chiz, Jiuyuan, Hathor, Hotori
  • Elements: 2x Cosmos + 1x Anima + 1x Lakshana
  • Reactions: Blossom + Remora + Charged
  • Core Mechanic: Relies on Chiz as main DPS, and generate enough Ultimate energy for her through Charged.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Jiuyuan: Spawns 1 additional Blossom and increases the cap to 6.
  • Chiz: Grants the active character 4 additional energy per Charged hit
  • Hathor: Deals 150% of ATK as burst damage when applying Remora to a target already afflicted by an earlier Remora.
  • Hotori: Prevents Blossom attacks from pausing during her time stop Ultimate

This is a template for an ideal Charged team, with all three elements required for the full reaction. Chiz, her weapon, and all her dupes are free, so her performance hits a very high ceiling. Then the entire team complement her, with two Burst DPS, and a grouping ability. Chiz takes most field time spending her Ultimate or regaining energy for it.

If your supports are lacking or busy in another team, use Mint in place of Jiuyuan, Zero in place of Hotori, or Skia in place of Hathor. Hyper Chiz team can be very F2P friendly without losing functionality.

Mono Scorch Team

  • Lineup: Baicang, Sakiri, Adler, Daffodill
  • Elements: 3x Incantation + 1x Chaos
  • Reactions: Scorch
  • Core Mechanic: Trigger Scorch as much as possible, with three characters buffing the reaction.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Adler: Applies one of three random debuffs alongside Scorch: -20% ATK, -10% Esper Res, +10% Break Efficiency.
  • Baicang: Applies a second stack of scorch when generating a Power Word (one of his abilities) on the enemy.
  • Sakiri: Increases DoT taken by the enemy by 25% for each DoT they are affected by.

A team that focuses on a strong reaction and makes it stronger. Baicang's entire kit synergizes with Scorch, so we go all in Scorch. Sakiri provides buffs, and CC. Adler provides debuffs and shields, and Daffodill brings the entire team together while playing as a quick swap burst DPS and break bosses.

If your support is not available, bring Haniel in place of Sakiri as a budget option.

Mono Nova Team

  • Lineup: Lacrimosa Fadia, Haniel, Hotori / Sakiri
  • Elements: 2x Psyche + 1x Chaos + 1x Cosmos
  • Reactions: Nova (with occasional Scorch in Sakiri's version)
  • Core Mechanic: Trigger Nova as many times as possible, exploiting Lacrimosa's instant reactions on skill use at A6, and Hotori replicating skills for another reaction. Without A6, use Sakiri for simple buffing, not to turn into a Scorch team.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Fadia: Drains a percentage of Fadia's base max HP to further increase the Nova damage.
  • Haniel: Drains a percentage of Haniel's base ATK from enemies, to further increase the Attack of all team members when Nova effect ends.
  • Aurelia: Causes 3 additional hits of Psyche damage after the Nova ends, based on her ATK.

With Lacrimosa's release, Mono Nova became a more potent team. If you get a dupe to unlock her A6: Morning Spell, it becomes the best team in the game. But at the default A0, it's behind Mono Scorch in performance.

Triggering Nova with full Cycle Intensity on Haniel provides strong extra DPS that only takes 1-second from rotation to trigger. You gain this DPS boost while Lacrimosa retains her on-field gameplay which deals a lot of direct and DoT damage.

Lacrimosa effectively took this team from Aurelia, since anything Aurelia can do, Lacrimosa does better, down to the great dodge counters playstyle.

Fadia's passive, Furnace of Guilt reduces enemy Max HP 5 times, for a total 1000% of Fadia's base Max HP (around 148k total at level 70 unascended), and also reduces the Max break bar of enemy. This makes breaking easier even without Discord.

This team is designed to avoid taking any character from the top or right side of the Esper Circle, leaving the other side in Beyond the Rails with all other premium characters.

Break Discord Team

  • Lineup: Fadia, Daffodill, Sakiri, Hotori
  • Elements: 1x Psyche + 1x Chaos + 1x Incantation +1x Cosmos
  • Reactions: Nova, Scorch, Discord
  • Core Mechanic: Break enemies as much as possible for massive DPS. An optimized setup can break a boss twice before finishing it. Discord enhances break, and Daffodill is the best breaker in the game.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Fadia: Drain a percentage of enemy Max HP on Triggering Nova, granting it to the team.
  • Daffodill: Further reduces the target's break cap by 10% for 30s, and can stack two times.
  • Sakiri: Increases DoT taken by the enemy by 25% for each DoT they are affected by.

Due to the slow buildup of Esper Meter in the lower half of the Esper Circle, the team doesn’t trigger Discord as frequently as - say - a team on top triggers Charged. There’s no dedicated support in the lower half for Esper Meter refill, and Zero doesn’t help these reactions. So instead, we use Hotori to replicate all characters skills to force generating Esper Meter faster.

Hotori has no synergy with these elements, but her sheer buffs and DPS make her a fitting flex slot. But if you want an alternative, you may use any sub-DPS such as Jiuyuan or another buffer such as Haniel in her place. Haniel may also replace Fadia for a more F2P approach, and Adler replaces Sakiri.

Hyper Hathor team

  • Lineup: Hathor, Haniel, Daffodill, Zero
  • Elements: 1x Lakshana + 1x Psyche + 1x Chaos + 1x Cosmos
  • Reactions: Stain + Remora + Nova
  • Core Mechanic: Maximize Hathor’s personal DPS by triggering Stain (Lakshana vulnerability), and keeping up Remora. Haniel buffs DPS through her skill, Ultimate, and through her passive after triggering Nova reaction with Daffodill.

Character Passives Affecting reactions:

  • Hathor: Extends Remora duration from 5s to 12s. Team's Crit Rate increased by 10% against enemies affected by Remora
  • Haniel: Drains a percentage of Haniel's base ATK from enemies, to further increase the Attack of all team members when Nova effect ends.

Between break damage from Daffodill, and Hathor’s burst DPS, the team has a solid output. Nova is mainly used for more buffs from Haniel, and Remora is a slow that helps the team’s survivability and makes dodging easier.

You can substitute Daffodill for Jiuyuan if grouping and a healer are needed. Can also downgrade to Skia in this slot, who further decreases enemies' Lakshana resistance and improves Remora in trade of a small drop in DPS

How to Build Two Teams with Account Restrictions

This section explains how to mix and match the top teams with realistic restrictions. Such as no Nanally, or Hotori, or accounts with only a handful of standard S-Class because of pulling dupes.

Due to the overlap of some characters such as Jiuyuan, Hathor, or Zero in some of the best teams, and the relatively small roster early in game's lifespan, you have to pick a side and build an invested team. Then take out the shared character and place a replacement while keeping the Archetype. Use these examples as a guideline, not a strict best composition.

1. Pick One Main DPS from Top of the Esper Circle

We got three limited main DPS character from the top half of the Esper Circle, Chaos, Nanally, and Shinku. You don't need multiple of them, because they share the same supports, especially Zero. So getting only one main DPS is sufficient to build a strong team.

Chaos would be a bad pick without Hathor, and Nanally would highly prefer Jiuyuan in her team. Mint can fill Anima slot, and Skia can fill Lakshana slot in lack of better alternatives. Sakiri can pair with Nanally team if she's not needed in second team.

2. What if We Don't Have Limited Main DPS on Top Half?

Then we resort to using Chiz Charge team. She's mostly a side-grade with some ceaveats, with her Awakenings unlocked, not a real downgrade.

3. Identify your second DPS

The best DPS in lower half of Esper Cycle is Lacrimosa, and you can automatically build the second team around her. But if you don't have Lacrimosa, you can resort to building around Daffodill, either with Baicang or more accessible A-Class characters such as Adler, and Haniel, or other S-Class like Fadia.

4. What if We Lack Both Daffodill and Lacrimosa

In that case we resort to either play hyper Aurelia, or Hyper Hathor as second team. This likely will take out the Lakshana characters from first half, so you resort to Blossom first team instead of full Charge team.

5. What to Do With Hotori

Hotori is the only limited support we got, and she's most flexible character in the game. Her best team is Mono Blossom with Zero, Nanally and Jiuyuan for maximum Blossom count. You can pair her with Mint in lack of Nanally and still have a potent team.

If you pulled her and don't have a Blossom team though, she can still pair with most teams in the game, even in lower half. A quick swap team with Daffodill can use Hotori to replicate skills for a quick Esper Meter build-up and more break. Or Nova team with Lacrimosa (with one Awakening on Lacrimosa) to spam Nova reaction.
