Overview

This Aion 2 Gear Score Guide explains how to increase your score through equipment upgrades, passive boards, exploration and dungeon rewards.

We will cover the upgrades that help you work towards 1,400 gear score, along with ways to save materials and Odyle Energy as you prepare for harder content.

If you’re still learning the basics, our Aion 2 beginner guide covers ten things to do first, including choosing skills and making use of pets and titles.

A huge thank you to Ulfhednar for his Aion 2 gear score tips and insights!

Upgrade Your Amulet and Belt

Collect feathers while leveling and turn them in at the Monolith, which unlocks shortly after the tutorial. You can start turning them in as you collect them.

The Monolith goes up to level 30 and rewards amulet enhancement scrolls as you progress. Use these to improve the permanent amulet you receive through the main story.

Your amulet and the belt you obtain later can both be enhanced to +10, then upgraded in quality through Substance Morph. This lets you move through green, blue and yellow quality.

The initial quality upgrade is free, while later stages become more expensive. Keep using the appropriate enhancement materials for each accessory as you earn them.

Complete Exploration and Upgrade Your Passive Board

While exploring, complete Sealed Dungeons, marked by question marks on the map, and tackle Strongholds.

Sealed Dungeon rewards include skill points and materials for your passive board. Spending board points increases your gear score while unlocking additional bonuses.

Open the board with the default Y keybind and spend your available points. Higher quality nodes require more points and provide larger gear score gains.

The final board unlocks at level 45. Check your available upgrades as you level so these rewards contribute to your character’s progression.

Collect Abyss Feathers and Use the Growth Shop

The Abyss has its own feathers and Monolith. Collect these feathers and turn them in to earn points for the Abyss board.

This board focuses on PvP bonuses, but allocating points also increases your gear score. Work towards the active skills your build needs, then target the legendary nodes.

The rings in the air restore flight energy, helping you keep moving while collecting feathers.

You can also spend Abyss Points through Battlefield → Trade Shop → Growth. Prioritize the passive-board upgrades and Stigma Shards available there to support your character’s progression.

Our Aion 2 settings guide covers useful flight keybinds for collecting feathers, along with graphics adjustments for crowded Abyss battles.

Improve Your Main Story Equipment

Finishing the main story gives you a weapon, guard and bracelet that can provide useful early gear score gains through enhancement.

These items are worth upgrading while you work towards stronger replacements, but keep an eye on the materials you spend.

Equipment Enhancement

Use Growth in the Enhancement menu to improve your equipment.

For your story weapon, +5 is an option if you want to conserve resources, while +10 gives you a stronger upgrade that can last longer. The story guard and bracelet are also useful enhancement targets.

Enhancement uses a considerable number of Enhance Stones, so focus your spending on these useful pieces as you progress.

Manastones and Theostones

Manastones add stat lines and increase your gear score. For equipment you expect to replace, aim for two green stat lines while saving your more valuable stones for better items.

Theostones add special effects to your weapon and guard, providing another way to increase your gear score. You can obtain them through quests.

Removing a Theostone destroys it, so keep that in mind before changing your setup.

Soul Binding and Transfers

Soul Binding improves an item’s affixes, but its books are limited early on. Save them for equipment you expect to keep.

The enhancement system also includes options for transferring stats between equipment and resetting them. Check these options when replacing items.

Spend Shugo Festival Currency on Progression

Take part in Shugo Festival activities to earn currency for the Festival shop.

Prioritize the crystals used for passive board upgrades and Stigma Shards. These purchases help you develop your character’s board and Stigma skills.

Soul Crystals are used to reroll pet stats. These can provide useful permanent bonuses, but the rerolls do not increase your gear score, and their crystal and currency costs build up.

If your immediate goal is to reach a gear score requirement, put those pet rerolls behind upgrades that raise your score.

Save Odyle Energy for Better Dungeon Rewards

Odyle Energy unlocks at level 22 and is used to claim equipment rewards from Expeditions. Save it during leveling so you have more available when you reach better rewards.

At level 45, you can obtain a guaranteed selection chest from Draupnir after three Exploration reward claims. If you use that chest, prioritize the breastplate for its stats.

The Draupnir chest is optional when working towards 1,400 gear score. You can build your score through the other upgrades covered here and save your energy for higher level rewards.

At level 45 and 1,400 gear score, you can enter Vakron Sky Island. Its item level 70 equipment provides a stronger upgrade than Draupnir’s rewards, with another selection chest available after three Exploration reward claims.

Prioritize a chest piece if you still need one, followed by boots or gloves. Boots are particularly useful for their movement speed.

Count reward claims when working towards these chests. If your pass allows a double claim, you can reach three claims in two runs.

Complete Ascension Trial and Nightmare

Ascension Trial and Nightmare use tickets obtained through quests, including Duty quests.

Improving your gear before spending stored tickets can help you clear higher stages and earn better rewards. During early progression, work on your upgrades first and complete these activities before their reset.

Check the relevant reset times and leave enough time to finish your runs.

Spend the currency from these activities on useful growth rewards, including passive board upgrades and Stigma Shards.

Choose Useful Duty Quest Rewards

At level 45, open the quest menu with the default J keybind and select Duty to find your daily quests.

Review the rewards before choosing which quests to prioritize. Useful options include:

  • Enhance Stones when you need more equipment upgrades.
  • Ascension Trial challenge tickets for additional attempts.
  • Odyle Energy for Expedition rewards.
  • Cube keys for the hidden cubes found in the open world.
  • Equipment that would improve your current setup.

The first reward shown is guaranteed, while the other rewards have individual drop chances. Check the displayed rates so you know which rewards you can count on.

Hidden cubes do not appear on the map, so look out for them as you explore.

Farm Field Bosses for Equipment and Titles

Open the map and select Field Boss to check boss respawn information and available drops.

Prioritize Gartua for its item level 70 equipment, and check the other bosses for upgrades to your current setup. Drops are random, so an equipment upgrade is not guaranteed from each kill.

Field bosses also reward titles, giving you another reason to complete them. These can provide bonuses such as combat speed, movement speed and critical hit.

Check the titles you earn alongside your equipment drops so you can make use of their benefits.

Look Into Crafted Accessories

Crafting gives you another route to equipment upgrades. Handicrafting is worth focusing on for jewelry, including item level 70 accessories that can provide substantial improvements.

Browse the available recipes and compare the finished items with your current equipment before deciding what to work towards.

Gathering and crafting can also provide items or materials to sell on the market. Consider their material costs and value when choosing what to make.

Progress Beyond 1,400 Gear Score

Once you reach 1,400 gear score, you can begin spending Odyle Energy on Conquest runs. You can also keep saving it while using other upgrades to work towards later targets, such as 1,600 or 2,100.

If you choose to develop alternate characters, their dungeon runs can help supply your main with materials. Premium battle pass benefits are character specific, so buying the pass for your main does not cover your alts.

Keep working towards your next content requirement and check which upgrades will help you reach it. Permanent accessories, board upgrades and carefully chosen equipment improvements give you several ways to progress while making good use of your resources.
