Overview

Heolstor, the Nightlord (also known as Night Aspect) is a Night Lord in Elden Ring Nightreign.

He is the last Nightlord and the most difficult one, acting as a Final Boss of sorts. Unlike other Nightlords, Heolstor has two separate health bars, having a total of three phases.

General Strategy

Heolstor has four different phases, with his moveset changing considerably. We've put specific tips and strategies into each section to help players get through the different phases.

You'll want to employ Holy damage to take Heolstor down, as he is weakest to this element, and you can stagger him multiple times.

All Nightfarers are good in the fight, but we recommend either:

Shape of the Night - Phase One

When you begin the fight, the Shape of the Night will be found wandering the area. As players get close, he will start attacking.

This enemy is relatively weak, and it attacks with his sword, but his animations are erratic and difficult to read. He is aggressive, though, so expect constant attacks even if it doesn't seem like he's winding up a hit. You can safely block most of his attacks and perform Guard Counters in time, as he doesn't attack too quickly. Otherwise, dodging backward is a very safe strategy.

Shape of the Night - Phase Two

At around 60% HP, the Shape of the Night will start using his greatsword, gaining new attacks and combos.

His moveset is even trickier and more difficult to read and memorize, so there are two simple ways to maneuver the fight:

  • Have a shield and keep guarding, waiting for an opening to attack
  • Sprint backward and to the sides if you don't have a shield. Roll pre-emptively if you see him readying a dash or thrust.
  • He has little poise, so heavy attacks can easily stagger him. Try to fit in a heavy attack in between his moves.

He can dash multiple times and slash at players with incredible speed. You can either block, sprint backward, or roll backward to avoid.

If you're not sure of what he will do next, just keep sprinting around, as the boss will always dash back at you and put himself in range for you to retaliate.

He can also perform thrusts with his sword up, which have very little windup and deal considerable damage.

Heolstor the Nightlord - Phase One

When the Shape of Night is dealt with, players will be transported to a new arena after a brief delay. Use this time to heal and use any consumables.

The real fight will begin with Heolstor awakening his Moonlight Greatsword, powering himself up and gaining access to new magic and dark attacks.

Heolstor has multiple chain-attack moves, where he will dash or thrust at players and do a couple of slashes and finish with an AoE attack. Keep the same strategy used in the Shape of Night fight: Dodge preemptively or ready your shield whenever he faces you. Expect erratic moves and dodge backwards.

When the boss drags his sword on the ground while charging it with magic, he's about to throw multiple projectiles at players. Run to the sides, or dodge through them, to get an opening and make him miss the rest of the attack.

Heolstor can also cover the area in darkness while channeling. After a delay, multiple projectiles will chase players around. You can stagger him out of this stance, or just run away until the projectiles disappear.

Heolstor the Nightlord - Phase Two

At around 60% HP, Heolstor enters phase two.

This phase begins with him flying into the air and slamming his sword on the ground, causing some sections of the ground to explode after a brief delay. You'll need to dodge or block the initial ground slam, and then dodge or block the explosions again, or otherwise run to a safe section.

His sword will damage players with a random element or ailment.

Heolstor's move set remains the same as in phase one, but his attacks make fissures appear on the ground, erupting after a delay. You need to keep track of the boss and the fissures, as getting hit by either can often result in death.

He can also perform a new combo attack, where he will crouch, then slash at a player, and then slash again after a brief delay. This attack can be blocked, but it is usually safest to dash through Heolstor and get behind him. You'll need to dash again through him when he faces you for the second set of slashes. After the combo, he will fly into the air and slam the sword into the ground, and erupt the ground directly beneath you. This final slam requires either a Greatshield, improved dodging, or invulnerability to block, as it can one-hit K.O. most Nightfarers.

While this phase might seem overwhelming at first, using the same techniques from past phases is a great strategy: Keep your shield up, or sprint and dodge preemptively until you recognize an attack pattern that you can punish. Keep your eyes both on Heolstor and on the ground to avoid fissures, and use your Ultimate's invulnerability period to avoid his strongest attacks.
