Overview

Bloomreaper the Invincible is the very first raid boss introduced in Borderlands 4, and it’s easily the toughest fight the game has to offer so far. As a true raid boss, it features the most complex mechanics seen yet and demands powerful, well-optimized builds to take down.

In Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, your rewards scale based on how fast you can kill it. To hit the highest tier, Platinum, you’ll need to take it down in under 90 seconds - and that’s the only way to get the Rainmaker Sniper Rifle.

Here is a build for each Vault Hunter that can defeat the boss in record time, pulled straight from some of the best Borderlands players.

General Strategy

Bloomreaper the Invincible has three phases but, from a mechanics perspective, this can be split into two phases.

First Phase

Crystals spawn around the boss that must be destroyed in order to make Bloomreaper vulnerable to damage and initiate the second phase. There are 5 Crystals total, and as they all spawn at the same time, a strong AoE setup is needed to pass this phase quickly.

Second Phase

After some delaying, Bloomreaper will lose invulnerability and jump from the first platform down to one of the smaller ones. At 33%, the boss once again becomes invulnerable for a time, before being able to be finished off. As this phase is all about damaging the boss, a strong Single Target setup is required.

Speed Run Setup (all VHs)

There are two weapon setups that work for all Vaunt Hunters and are used for killing the boss ASAP (around the 40 second mark) even on True UVH6.

First Phase

For the AoE setup, the current best weapon loadout is a pair of Torgue AR with the Airstrike underbarrel which, predictably, creates an AoE airstrike at the designated area. The Potato Thrower IV and/or any Purple Torgue AR is the go-to choice.

To utilise the Airstrike to its fullest potential however, you will need to pair it with an Enhancement with the Headringer effect. This effect grants Torgue weapons increased damage and, critically, damage radius. Additionally, this Enhancement will need to roll Assault Rifle Splash Radius.

With all these elements combined your Airstrike will hit all 5 crystals at the same time.

Headringer Enhancement

Second Phase

For the boss-slaying Single Target Setup, the best weapon is again not a Legendary but a Purple Maliwan Shotgun called the Stellium. The underbarrel affect Beam Tosser does incredible single target damage that, when paired with high-performing builds, melts Bloomreaper in seconds.

Additionally, this weapon comes in 🔥Incendiary, which does 175% damage to Flesh (red) healthbars, which Bloomreaper has.

Vex

Ratore's Gun Gal Vex

This is a simple yet great generalised Vex build that works with a plethora of weapons. Simply blast, reload, and blast some more. Its only real drawback is its preference for Kinetic weapons.

Core Skills:

  • Incarnate
  • Witchy Trigger Finger
  • Heartpiercer

  • Material Components for big Kinetic damage
  • Essence Leech / Blood Is Power great combo for more Kinetic damage
  • Bloodletter bleed Kinetic status effect for damage
  • Enchantment the only non-green skill you get

Vex bloomreaper gun gal skill tree

Weapons:

  • Darkbeast with Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) and, preferably, Daedalus Shotgun Mode (for Phase 1 specifically)
  • Linebacker is an excellent alternative for crystals and orbs.
  • Convergence with Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is also another great alternative for crystals.
  • T.K's Wave Extremely high base damage. Access to lots of licenses.
  • Oscar Mike With the absurdly powerful 'Space Laser' underbarrel. It benefits from Amp, Blood Shot and all our bonuses, and then bleed too on top of that. Can get Torgue and Jakobs-licensed parts.
  • Jakobs Shotgun Balor or Dullahan, or even another legendary.

Pretty much any Kinetic weapon can be useful in this build

Harlowe

AncientRune's TRAUNTASTIC Harlowe

Full Build link: https://mobalytics.gg/borderlands-4/builds/standard-gun-harlowe

A simple gun-based build that creates a loop for infinite crits, ammo, and action skill uptime. Extremely flexible weapon and gear choices.

  • Flux Generator
  • Nuclear Winter
  • Group Study

  • Confirmative Reality helps to keep Action Skill up
  • Critical Funding gives endless ammo

  • Queen's Rest - Phase 2 GOD. Get w/ Torgue stickies, Jakobs ricochet, and Ripper

Rafa

Joe4Long's Tediore Rafa

Full Build link: https://mobalytics.gg/borderlands-4/builds/overdrive-soltado-tediore-primo-rafa-joeforlong

Who needs to shoot a gun when you can throw it? This build revolves around the iconic Tediore gun-launching affect paired with Overdrive skills to deal massive damage.

Core Skills:

  • APOPHIS Lance
  • Sangre por Sangre
  • Due to going deep into both Red and Blue trees, there is no Capstone in this build

  • Barrage for big AoE damage
  • El Soldado for extra gun damage (this is the primary use for APOPHIS Lance)
  • Temerario for damage, with weapon handling being unimportant with Tediore
  • Soltado doubles the above effects

Weapons:

Amon

GIRTHQUAKE's Slip n Dip Amon

Full Build link: https://mobalytics.gg/borderlands-4/profile/girthquake/builds/slip-n-dip

This build employs the Slippy ordnance's Melee damage to utilise great synergies within Amon's skills while still allowing him to keep using weapons.

Core Skills:

  • Onslaughter
  • Force of Nature
  • Hoarcleave

  • Berserk can scale up to over 1000% bonus damage
  • My Touch Is Death activates off Slippy to trigger powerful Kill Skills
  • There Is Only Red activates off the above. Gives big damage
  • Gathering Storm the only points put in his Green tree
  • I Am A Gun so Hoarcleave scales even higher

Weapons:

  • This build relies more of Berserk for damage than your actual weapon, giving you a wide range of weapons to choose from. The weapon's effect is often more valuable than the weapon itself
    • Strong underbarrels, high ROF weapons, anything decently strong is viable
