Overview

One of the best parts of any Borderlands game is the absurdity of its weapons. Borderlands 4 continues that tradition with an incredible lineup of legendary guns, shields, grenades, and more.

Legendaries not only pack wild effects but also have dedicated drop sources meaning you can farm specific bosses for a much higher chance at getting them.

Here are 10 of the strongest and most fun legendaries in the game and how to get them.

Check out RageGaming's video for more information on these legendaries

Hot Slugger

  • Type: Jakobs Shotgun
  • Effect: Blazing Barrel – +30% bonus damage from all sources for 10 seconds after a kill, stacking up to 3 times (90% total).
  • How to Get: Callus, the boss at the end of Craven's Nook Order Bunker in Terminus Range

The Hot Slugger is one of the strongest and most sought-after weapons in Borderlands 4. Its single bullet-mag synergies incredibly well with first-shot Skills such as Rafa's Vitriol and First Impression.

For more detailed information on the Hot Slugger, including a walkthrough on how to obtain it, visit its guide page.

Firewerks

  • Type: Torgue Armor Shield
  • Effect: Bundled - On kills, spawns Missiles that home in on nearby enemies and deal damage.
  • How to Get: Splashzone, the first main story boss in the Fadefields area

Firewerks is coveted as a shield with immense offensive power. Every time you get a kill, it unleashes a barrage of powerful homing missiles, making it incredible for mobbing. This shield is particularly strong in the early game but still finds use in late-game loadouts.

Due to its On kill effect it synergises well with Kill Skills such as Amon's Pyroclast

Hellfire

  • Type: Ripper SMG
  • Effect: Burning Desire
  • How to Get: Sky Spanner Crotch, boss in Lambit Mine (Cuspid Climb, Terminus Range). Unlocked after the related story mission

The Hellfire's main appeal is its high incendiary damage with incredibly strong burn effect, making it ideal for melting enemies with red health bars. It's a simple yet very effective weapon for all Vault Hunters.

Linebacker

  • Type: Torgue Shotgun
  • Effect: Full Coverage - Bouncing Projectiles increase Damage by +25% and Damage Radius by +35% per bounce
  • How to Get: Sky Spanner Crotch, boss in Lambit Mine (Cuspid Climb, Terminus Range). Unlocked after the related story mission

The Linebacker launches projectiles that explode on enemies but bounce off terrain, increasing in both damage and blast radius with each bounce. This makes it one of the best weapons in tight areas.

Swarm

  • Type: Order Grenade
  • Effect: Swoosh
  • How to Get: Sydney Pointy Legs, boss in Prospects Drill Site (Hungering Plane, Fadefields)

The Swarm homes in on enemies, explodes, and then splits into three more grenades that also track enemies. Each of these grenades also split in to three more.

Acquiring the Swarm early will almost single-handedly carry all mobbing encounters.

Oscar Mike

  • Type: Daedalus AR
  • Effect 1: Space Laser - [Alt-Fire] Calls down a Space Laser dealing damage
  • Effect 2: Tactical Rounds - The first half of your Magazine deals +50% Bonus Damage
  • How to Get: Gen 1, unlocked after completing the Fault Finding side quest in Carcadia Burns

Oscar Mike stands out as a weapon with two legendary effects. The Space Laser effect is by far the more iconic and powerful, dealing immense damage in a small area albeit on a long cooldown.

Due to the small immobile radius of the Space Laser effect, this weapon synergises well with crowd control such as Amon's various freeze effects.

Rainbow Vomit

  • Type: Jakobs Shotgun
  • Effect: Color Spray - Shoots droplets of three different elements.
  • How to Get: Leader Willm, unlocked via a questline starting with Elect the Elect and ending with The Mole’s Gambit (Carcadia Burns).

Rainbow Vomit is a jack-of-all-trades weapon due to its triple elemental Color Spray effect. It can roll any element allowing you to deal with most if not all enemy types.

Depending on the element it rolls, the Rainbow Vomit will synergise well with varying elemental damage boosts, such as Harlowe's Elementary.

War Paint

  • Type: Torgue Repkit
  • Effect: Chrome - On use, grants +30% Fire Rate and +30% Movement Speed for 15s, and reduces Repkit Cooldown by 2s each time Damage is taken.
  • How to Get: Saddleback, boss of the Old Scrape Drill Site (southern Terminus Range, near Fadefields).

Legendary Repkits are few and far between, and most of those focus on defense. The War Paint is an exception to this as it boosts both your offense and movement.

The War Paint is a must-have for high octane gun-focused builds, such as Rafa in Overdrive

Lucian's Flank

  • Type: Vladof AR
  • Effect: Trample - Critical Hits refill up to 2 Ammo to the Gun's Magazine.
  • How to Get: Saddleback, boss of the Old Scrape Drill Site (southern Terminus Range, near Fadefields).

Lucian's Flank is a premium Legendary Weapon for fire rate builds. It not only boasts high fire rate and a large clip by default but also has a second magazine in its under barrel. Additionally, its weapon effect Trample helps keep your ammo high, though there is an internal cooldown which restricts it from going infinite.

Harlowe's Capstone Group Study is a key benefactor.
