Build Overview

Gun Gal Vex!

Build guide got an overhaul. Working on adding the variants back, including the Heavy Ordnance-focused variant. Thanks for your patience and all of the appreciation <3.

Gun Gal is a traditional Vex gun build that offers many flexible choices of approach and has high weapon variety. It's ready to tackle any endgame activity, having high damage and sustain.

Below, you will be able to find build variants which may suit your preferred playstyle.

  • Many thanks to LazyData, Iserrot and all Soup Kitchen friends that theorycraft on Vex.
    • Further thanks to LazyData for his optimization and help in buildcrafting Kill Skill Vex.

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Great damage and sustain
  • Weapon variety
  • Kill Skill & No Kill Skill variants
  • Lower weapon variety on the No Kill Skills variant

Build Variants

The Kill Skills variant of Gun Gal focuses on sustained DPS and very high peaks achieved through stacking kill skill effects and maximizing the trigger efficiency of Mortal Terror.

  • It has the highest weapon variety, essentially allowing usage of any gun as long as it's at least decent.

Flexible Points

There's a certain degree of preference/weapon-specific min-maxxing in regards to some skill points and where they can be used. Here are some you can feel free to mess around with:

  1. Grave Sustenance at 2/5 can usually be enough, but the third point adds a lot of wiggle room to your Action Skill uptime management.
    • You can use that third point elsewhere if you prefer, like Enchantment or Blood Is Magic.
  2. Enchantment adds some nice impact damage, but during scenarios where Bleed DPS matters a lot, like when bossing with a Crit Knife, it can override your stronger bleeds coming from Base Damage and Blood Is Power.
    • If you'd rather completely avoid that, then you can use those points elsewhere, like Blood Is Magic, which will boost the damage of your Bleeds without any downsides.
  3. Hasty Fiends is nice utility. Movement Speed helps with pace and, indirectly, Action Skill uptime. The Damage Reduction is not unwelcome on activities like the Takedown and will help protect your HP.
    • You can use those points in Grave Sustenance instead for even more efficient Action Skill uptime if you prefer.
  4. Guns and Needles is an extremely nice Repkit sustain skill that lets us access boosts and utilities like War Paint and Triple Bypass a lot more frequently, and I don't particularly recommend ever skipping it for general effectiveness.
    • However, you may find yourself not having need of it depending on what you're doing (i.e like a planned, step-by-step raid boss kill), in which case you can use the point on any other skill of your preference, like Phase Pocket, Target Prescience, Idle Hands or Red Tree.
  5. Phase Pocket is a welcome boost to the sustain of our magazines and allows better usage of Witchy Trigger Finger with many of the best weapon choices.
    • It won't always be good with every weapon, however, and the ones that have frequent reloads would rather benefit more from investing in Idle Hands. This choice is dictated by which guns you feel like using and how proficient you are at managing Witchy Trigger Finger.

Action SkillIncarnate

Witchy Trigger Finger and Vibe Check

  • Witchy Trigger Finger is a massive QOL that lets many reloads be skipped, and also provides some nice gun damage.
    • You have the option of using Grave Harvest if you want incarnate mobbing uptime to be better, though you shouldn't ever really need to.
  • Vibe Check efficiently refunds Eldritch Blast charges for quick triggers and stacks of Witchy Trigger Finger.

WEAPONS

On the KS Gun Gal variant, you can basically use any good weapons with varying degrees of effectiveness. The ones listed below are some favorites, alongside very strong meta choices.

Although not the primary focus, Heavy Ordnances can also be used on this variant, and be sustained through Witchy Trigger Finger.

  • Suggestion: check out the Borderlands 4 META Weapons Tier List for a general weapon list. From there, pick weapons based on the build's strengths and match an adequate Enhancement. That way, any good weapon will play well.

Crow-SourcedSwan Song

Absolutely excellent, top-tier weapons for any activity. Do-it-all guns that will handle whatever you throw at them. Mobbing, bossing, Crystal enemies... anything.

  • Crow-Sourced is a top-tier bossing and mobbing choice, and a great performer all-around for any activity. Favor high fire rate rolls so that it charges faster.
    • Favor high fire rate rolls so that it charges faster. There's no licensed parts of note on Crow-Sourced.
    • Goalkeeper has access to Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) and is an ok replacement for mobbing, but doesn't come close at all in overall power.
  • Swan Song has absurd card stats and great licensed parts, working very well against pretty much anything.
    • Torgue (Impact Mag) alongside Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) gives you access to many good Enhancement effects and a lot of versatility.
    • The underbarrel of the Swan Song is excellent for mixed bossing while mobbing, like on the Takedown and Ripper Drill Sites.

LockjawStray& Stealth and Seek

Excellent mobbing weapons.

  • Lockjaw scales absurdly well with higher enemy counts like on the Takedown. Its only mobbing weakness is not having homing, but that hardly matters much under its ideal use cases.
    • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is essential. You can also experiment with other licenses such as COV (Unlimited Mag), Hyperion (Accuracy Grip) and Ripper (Charge Mag).
    • A Blind Box Jakobs Enhancement unlocks even more potential out of the Lockjaw.
  • Stray just lets you turn your brain off and hold the fire button.
    • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is essential to make this reach its full potential.
    • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) firing modes, like SMG and AR, are great to extend its ammo pool. Shotgun Mode is also very strong, but ammo sustain won't last too long.
  • Stealth and Seek fits a similar role to Stray and can be arguably better.
    • It doesn't really have many noteworthy licenses for Vex other than Ripper (Charge Mag) and Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader), of which you can get your preference of.

Ohm I Got

A staple choice for Kill Skill Vex, and very powerful. Its main strength is mobbing, however it can do most of the game's bossing just fine. The downsides are completely negated by Teen Witch.

  • Ripper (Charge Mag) is nice and grants it access to Ripper Enhancement effects like Short Circuit.

DarkbeastFlash CycloneJuliet's SparkleWombo Combo

Great mobbing weapons. Good at dealing with Crystal enemies. Bossing performance varies, but is competent at best.

  • Darkbeast is a highly powerful and comfy gun that can work for a variety of scenarios, has nice licensed parts access and piercing bullets by default.
    • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is extremely useful and powerful for mobbing.
    • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun mode is a very strong option that can quickly nuke dangerous enemies.
    • Ripper (Charge Mag) can be nice too, especially for bossing DPS.
  • Flash Cyclone is very strong in the same ways, however it requires the Mad Ellie DLC.
    • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) and/or Ripper (Charge Mag) are great licenses for it.
  • Juliet's Sparkle is an excellent base game option, and has piercing bullets by default.
    • It has fixed Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory), making it not too hard to find a decent to great version.
  • Wombo Combo is a solid weapon and a nice choice for dealing with Crystal enemies.

Complex RootConvergence

Great bossing weapons.

  • Complex Root with Atlas (Dart Underbarrel) and optionally Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) can make this a very efficient bossing weapon, while also getting access to many good Enhancements.
  • Convergence with Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) SMG Mode is an ammo-efficient boss killer. Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is also good, and it's not a bad mobbing weapon either.

Jakobs ShotgunConstableT.K's WaveHot Slugger

Epic Rarity Jakobs Shotguns are fun weapons. They won't be breaking records, but feel nice to use.

Pearls and Legendaries like Constable, T.K's Wave and Hot Slugger are also great weapons.

  • Balor Jakobs Shotgun gets very high damage and pellet count. Dullahan Jakobs Shotgun can roll the strongest version of the Spread Launcher underbarrel.
    • Spread Launcher underbarrel is an obvious pick that can trivialize many encounters.
    • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Sniper Mode on Balor is very nice, though it can almost feel a little too accurate due to Grave Sights.
  • Constable can perform greatly but you have to play around its special effect to maximize its effectiveness.
  • T.K's Wave is almost a playground of a gun with how many licensed parts it has access to. You can basically go for your preferred combo between two licenses on it and have very solid gun.
    • Atlas (Dart Underbarrel), Torgue (Impact Mag) and Ripper (Charge Mag) are the main licenses you should be on the lookout for, and they also enable access to many good Enhancement effects.
  • Hot Slugger is a very solid option with completely fixed parts and easily acquirable.

Seventh SenseRouletteShalashaskaShoals

Potent sidearms that can fill a 'I don't know what else to equip' role very well.

  • Seventh Sense with Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Sniper Mode or Shotgun Mode is a comfy gun that is powerful and feels nice to use.
  • Roulette with Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) and Torgue (Impact Mag) is nice for mobbing.
  • Shalashaska is another excellent option if you play around its special effect. Look for Torgue (Impact Mag) and any other license of your preference.
  • Shoals is similar in feeling to the Shalashaska. Look for Torgue (Impact Mag) and any other license of your preference.

Underbarrels

Great options to use in a panic or for a large burst of damage.

  • Spread Launcher Jakobs Shotgun
    • The classic Spread Launcher can demolish bosses with ease.
  • Beam Tosser Maliwan Shotgun
    • Perfect for bosses with decently large hitboxes and high HP values, like Thol, Watchgrath and Child of Terra. Under its ideal scenarios, it can outdamage the Spread Launcher.
  • Space Laser Oscar Mike
    • Fun and strong.
  • Airstrike Fleabag Potato Thrower IV Torgue AR
    • Great for Bloomreaper crystals or damaging a large area.

REPKIT

War Paint, Order Repkit, Triple Bypass, Kill Spring and Vitae are all good choices of Repkit with their own relative strengths.

Look for these effects, or combinations of them if applicable:

  • Enrage (Experimental)
  • Fire Rate (Spasmodic)
  • Reload Speed (Dextrous)
  • Speed (Caffienated)
  • Accelarator (Adrenalized)
  • Amp (Amplified)
    • Note: 'Leech' (Lifesteal) Repkits do not apply to Blood Is Power.

ORDNANCE

Crit KnifeJakobs Grenade

This is the usual pick due to its high utility and DPS-boosting capabilities for our guns.

For fun options to mess around with on mobbing, considerCountermeasure, Waterfall, Blockbuster, Firepot, Slippy and anything else of your preference.

HeimdahlDraupner

Great choices of Heavy Ordnance that can be sustained through Witchy Trigger Finger, or simply be integrated as part of the damage loop.

  • Heimdahl has excellent mobbing performance and can even boss nicely.
  • Draupner is has some of the most disgusting card stats in the game and can absolutely melt bosses.

CLASS MOD

Stat rolls to look out for on any Class Mod are:

  • Gun Crit Chance
    • Main recommended stat roll due to its usefulness for Mortal Terror triggers.
  • Gun Damage
  • Damage Dealt
  • Fire Rate
  • Reload Speed

Teen Witch

Absolutely excellent class mod. It does a lot of heavy lifting, sustaining our health, shields, amp and further boosting Blood Is Power through its passive Lifesteal.

  • +5 Grave Thirst; +2 Corporeal or +2 Conjunction
    • Extremely powerful roll due to Grave Thirst feeding into Blood Is Power.

SHIELD

Watts 4 DinnerCindershellyPandoran MomentoGuardian Angel

Great shield choices. All with 150% Amp.

  • Watts 4 Dinner Bonus Shock is some nice extra impact damage and another valid source of Mortal Terror triggers, making for high utility and a great main choice of shield.
    • It has a downside. In prolonged fights where Bleed is fully stacked and its DPS matters, the Bonus Shock can override stronger Bleeds with its own weaker Bleeds. It's not that big of a deal though, but when looking to optimize for specific fights, you might want to consider the other shields.
  • Cindershelly and Pandoran Momento have good defensive attributes while still being able to roll 150% Amp.
    • Cindershelly has low part variance and is the easiest shield to get a 150% Amp version of.
  • Guardian Angel is another good choice with a defensive fallback due to its special effect.

Super Soldier

  • Decently choice, but will hardly ever outpace the Amp shields. Mostly just a fun swap.

Firewerks

  • Legitimately nice mobbing choice. The missiles are gun damage, will inherit our bonus elements and will wipe mobbing sections on their own.

ENHANCEMENT

The baseline for Enhancements is: match your Enhancement to your weapons' available licenses.

  • You will inevitably run into overlaps between Manufacturers and Licenses, where guns will fit many of the Enhancements. You will have to judge for yourself what fits best in that case, since I cannot really cover for every possibility here. So, experiment away!

Stat Rolls to look out for on any Enhancement:

  • Gun / Gun Type Damage
  • Gun / Gun Type Magazine Size
  • Gun / Gun Type Crit Damage
  • Gun / Gun Type Equip Speed
  • Gun / Gun Type Fire Rate
  • Gun / Gun Type Reload Speed

Quintain | Blind Box | Piercer | Bounce Pass Jakobs Enhancement

  • Great for Jakobs or Jakobs-licensed guns.

Pumper |Studfinder | Head Ringer Torgue Enhancement

  • Great for Torgue or Torgue-licensed guns.
    • The Air Burst effect is extremely powerful for mobbing and against Crystal enemies.

Evolver | Primadiem | Power Shot Order Enhancement

Combo | Nexus | Junction Atlas Enhancement

  • These can be nice for bossing with Atlas-licensed guns.

Disruptor | Binger | High Roller | Short Circuit Ripper Enhancement

  • Good options for any Ripper or Ripper-licensed weaponry.
    • You can notably fish for Short Circuit procs when using Ohm I Got and keep the boost up as long as you don't reload.

Hephaestian | Gatherer | Scion | Bullet Fabricator Daedalus Enhancement

  • Great options for Daedalus and Daedalus-licensed weapons.

Hero of Bullet | Bullet Hose Vladof Enhancement

Utilities
Class Mod FirmwareHigh Caliber
Shield FirmwareActive Fire
Enhancement FirmwareHigh Caliber

2/3 Deadeye | 2/3 High Caliber | 1/3 Active Fire or Heating Up

  • General setup with great damage boosts. Ideal for using any gun without restrictions.

3/3 Active Fire | 2 Preference

  • If using Crow-Sourced as main weapon, then this Firmare combnation will inevitably be better than any other choice.
  • Combine the 3/3 Active Fire with any of the following:
    • For damage: 2/3 High Caliber.
    • For utility: 1/3 High Caliber | 1/3 Deadeye.
    • For utility: 1/3 High Caliber or Deadeye | 1/3 Heating Up.

3/3 High Caliber | 1/3 Active Fire | 1 Preference

  • The piercing effect is nice when paired with splash-capable weapons and underbarrels, since you can shoot through enemies for a double hit once the splash hits the ground.
  • The Preference slot can be any of:
    • 1/3 Deadeye for increased accuracy.
    • 1/3 Heating Up for reload speed.
    • Another Active Fire for faster charge-ups if using a charge weapon.

3/3 Deadeye | 2/3 High Caliber

  • Another generalist setup. Mainly use this if you don't have access to any of the better firmware combinations above.

3/3 Daed-dy O | 2/3 High Caliber or Deadeye or Atlas Infinum

  • Very nice setup for weapons that have mode/underbarrel switches, like Bonnie and Clyde, Rooker, Atlas trackers, Daedalus switches etc.

Specialization

Specialization 1The Best Defense
Specialization 2Riddle You This
Specialization 3Now With Caffeine
Specialization 4I Am A Gun

The Best Defense | Riddle You This | Now With Caffeine | I Am A Gun

  • The Best Defense is easily maintained and a nice double dip for Bloodletter.
  • Riddle You This is easily stacked and we make good use of its boost.
  • Now With Caffeine helps with Incarnate uptime.
  • I Am A Gun is a nice boost to Bloodletter damage.

Other Options

  • Bullet Train is nice QOL for quick-paced gun builds due to the sprint-shooting. You can slot it in place of Now With Caffeine or I Am A Gun, at your own judgement.

Gameplay

Pick your Gun, pop your Repkit of choice and slaughter! It cannot be more straightforward.

Aim for crits where feasible to maximize your Mortal Terror triggers and Bloodletter efficiency.

Hit Eldritch Blasts to maintain Witchy Trigger Finger and refill your magazines.

Get a feel for the weapons. Some will be great at both bossing and mobbing, while others may be good at only one the two, and a few might excel at both, like Crow-Sourced and Swan Song.
