How to Unlock the Best Early Game Mounts in Palworld (Land, Water, and Flying)

Trying to figure out how to get a mount in Palworld ASAP?

We’ve got you covered with the early and best choices whether you want to travel by land, sea, or sky!

This article covers the level you can find each, the materials you need, and where on the map they’re located.

If you’re starting out, don’t miss our list of the best pals to get in the early game.

What You Need to Start Getting Mounts

The first step to getting mounts is hitting level 6 of the Technology tree as that will give you access to the Pal Gear Workbench.

technololgy level 6

This structure allows you to create gear that is used with specific pals, ranging from saddles (which are used to mounts) to equipment that turn the pals into literal weapons like rocket launchers, flamethrowers, and gliders.

Rushroar: (First Land Mount Possible)

rushroar number

  • Skill
    • Hard Head
      • Can be ridden. Increases efficiency of destroying boulders while mounted
  • Work Suitability
    • Mining Lvl 1

If you’re in a rush to get the first possible mount in Palworld, Rushroar is the pal you want.

Its saddle becomes available at Technology level 6, which is the same one as the earlier mentioned Pal Gear Workbench.

Many players will miss this recipe because Rushroar’s spawning area is pretty far from the beginning area and end up getting Eikthyrdeer as their first land mount.

However, if you wander into their area or found this specific article, Rushroar is a great pal to get early on as it will save you time traveling and can help you mine stone quickly with its ability.

How to Craft Rushroar Saddle

  • 3x Leather
  • 10x Stone
  • 5x Paldium

Where to find Rushroar

To find Rushroar at level 6, you’ll need to venture north from the starting area and find the first tower (Tower of the Rayne Syndicate).

Then, just head west and you should find Rushroar running around the plains and rocky hills.

Eikthyrdeer (Best Early Game Land Mount)

eikthyrdeer number

  • Skill
    • Guardian of the Forest
      • Can be ridden. Can perform a double jump while mounted. Increases efficiency of cutting trees.
  • Work Suitability
    • Lumbering Lvl 2

Since Rushroars spawn in an area that’s decently far from the starting area, Eikthyrdeer will likely be the first mount for a lot of first time players.

You’ll need to reach Technology level 12 to unlock the Eikthyrdeer Saddle.

technology level 12

With the ability to double jump, help you cut trees, or handle tree-cutting at the base as a worker, Eikthyrdeer is by far the best early-game land mount for all-around purposes.

Switch back to Rushroar for mining or pick up a Direhowl for pure speed.

How to Craft Eikthyrdeer Saddle

  • 5x Leather
  • 20x Fiber
  • 10x Ingot
  • 3x Horn
  • 15x Paldium Fragment

Where to Find Eikthydeer

If you follow the natural progression of the starting zone toward the first tower, you’ll eventually run into plenty of Eikthydeer.

Chillet: (Best Early Game Water Mount)

chillet number

  • Skill
    • Wriggling Weasel
      • Can be ridden.
      • Applies Dragon Damage to the player’s attacks while mounted.
  • Work Suitability
    • Gathering Lvl 1
    • Cooling Lvl 1

Although you can technically pick up a Surfent earlier on, we recommend just getting the Chillet Saddle right after you get the Eikthydeer one. It work out nicely since the Chillet Saddle unlocks at Technology level 13, right after Eikthydeer Saddle’s level 12.

technology level 13

We recommend skipping Surfent so you can save on resources as Chillet is better in basically every way (except super long-distance water travel due to Surfant’s ability).

This is because Ice and Dragon are rare elemtal types in the early game, allowing you to deal more damage to Dragona and Dark types (which are common at night time).

Lastly, the Chillet that you can hunt down as an Alpha will be much stronger than any Surfent you can find early on.

How to Craft Chillet Saddle

  • 10x Leather
  • 20x Fiber
  • 5x Cloth
  • 20x Paldium

Where to Find Chillet

Finding Chillet is pretty easy! Just head east of the first tower (Tower of the Rayne Syndicate) and you should see it on the map as an Alpha boss. By the time you get Eikthyrdeer, it should be doable.

Nitewing: (First Flying Mount Possible)

nitewing number

  • Skill
    • Travel Companion
    • Can be ridden as a flying mount.
  • Work Suitability
    • Gathering Lvl 2

Although being able to traverse land and sea feels great, nothing compares to the freedom of being able to fly!

Nitewing is the first flying mount that you can access starting at Technology level 15, not too long after Eikthydeer and Chillet.

technology level 15

Since it’s a flyer, you’ll need access to a ranged weapon to aggro it, but once you hit it, it’ll come down to ground level making it much easier to catch.

In addition to being a flying mount, having Gathering 2 is nice to have and will help speed up transportation of materials within your base when you aren’t traveling.

How to Craft Nitewing Saddle

  • 20x Leather
  • 10x Cloth
  • 15x Ingot
  • 20x Fiber
  • 20x Paldium

Where to find Nitewing

You can find Nitewing in the skies above basically the same areas you’ll find Eikthydeer. Thanks to the devs for making the transition to all mount types pretty easy!
