Use your favourite features in-game with our Desktop AppYour base has many different stations that your Pals can help with. Each Pal has a Work Suitability rating that determines how effective they are at certain tasks, and this guide will teach you what Pals are best for each task.
There are 12 Work Suitabilities in total, and each Pal may have up to level 10 in any given trait. The higher the level, the more effective the Pal is at that specific task.

Each Work Suitability has an associated Handbook that can be given to a Pal to increase the relevant stat. Using these, any Pal in the game can reach the max rank of any Work Suitability.

The best method for obtaining effective Pals at each Work Suitability is to choose a Pal with a high base rank and then increase this rank using the Pal Condenser.
The Pal Condenser is a building that allows you to feed Pals to another of the same species to rank it up and improve its stats, including its Work Suitabilities.
This works best for Pals with a singular Work Suitability, for example 
Jormuntide Ignis, as each rank only increases one Work Suitability at a time. Pals like Jormuntide Ignis are guaranteed to increase their Kindling for example, as it is the only trait present, whereas a Pal like 
Anubis has multiple traits and the level ups are therefore diluted.
A Pal can reach a max rank of 4 from the Pal Condenser with its cost increasing each time.

Renjishi - highest base Kindling of 8 and also has great Handling. Reaches level 10 Kindling at rank 4.Jormuntide Ignis - base Kindling level 7 but is easier to obtain than Renjishi and only needs rank 3 to max out its Kindling stat.
Dupin - a great all-round option, but cannot reach max Kindling through ranking up alone.
Flaracle - another strong Handling Pal and viable for combat too.
Shaolong - highest base Watering level at 8, reaches max Water at rank 3.
Jormuntide - the same as Jormuntide Ignis but for Watering.
Neptilius - very similar to Jormuntide with a base Watering of 7, maxing out at 10 at rank 3.
Suzaku Aqua - a comparatively low base level of 6 but reaches level 10 at rank 4.
Jetragon - best base Gathering level at 8, reaches level 10 at rank 2. Also one of the greatest flying mounts in the game.
Frostallion Noct - starts at base level 7 Gathering and reaches level 10 at rank 3.
Hartalis - base level 7 Gathering with an equally strong Lumbering stat. Reaches max Gathering at rank 4. Considered one of the best ground mounts in the game.
Starryon Primo - another base level 7 Gathering Pal that can max out via the Pal Condenser.
Dandilord - one of the best overall base Pals with a wide array of useful Work Suitabilities. Highest base Planting at level 8, reaching 10 at rank 4.
Ophydia - has a base level of 7 Planting, reaching level 10 at rank 4. Also has high Watering skill which pairs great with Planting.
Lyleen - another solid all-round base Pal and has a base level 7 Planting. Its versatility comes at a price of not being able to reach level 10 Planting through the Pal Condenser alone. 
Solenne - best base Handiwork level at 8. Only Pal that can achieve level 10 through the Pal Condenser.Renjishi / Dandilord / 
Silvance - many other Pals sit at 6 Handiwork, so the best options are those that also fill another role. 
Aegidron - highest base Mining level at 8. As an exclusively Mining Pal it can reach max level at only rank 2.
Blazamut - a base Mining level of 7 with an impressive 6 Kindling. Reaches max Mining at rank 4 from the Pal Condenser. Surprisingly easy to obtain if you search for Huge and Large Scorching Eggs in Mount Obsidian and along its shores.
Blazamut Ryu - exact same as Blazamut but harder to obtain.
Astegon - starts at Mining level 7 and has a partner skill that allows you to obtain more Ore while mounted. 
Celesdir Noct - highest base Lumbering at level 8. Attains level 10 at rank 3 in the Pal Condenser.
Celesdir - slightly lower Lumbering than its dark cousin at level 7 and needing rank 4 to max out, but it is easier to obtain being found in Feybreak compared to the World Tree.
Silvegis - starts lower at Lumbering level 6, but with no other Work Suitabilities it can reach level 10 through the Pal Condenser.
Bastigor - the highest base Cooling of any Pal at level 8, reaches level 10 at rank 4. Also has some strong Mining and Lumbering.
Frostallion - has a base level 7 Cooling and with only one Work Suitability can be fully upgraded by rank 3. Also available earlier than Bastigor.
Eidrolon & 
Eidrolon Ignis - Transporting is affected by not only the Work Suitability stat but also the Pal's move and transport speed. These Pals have Transporting 6, but are incredibly fast.
Knocklem - the highest base Transporting level at 7 but is slow. Excels in confined areas where it doesn't have to cover much ground.
Faleris Aqua - a strong mix of Transporting at level 5 and move/transport speeds.

Eye of Cthulhu - surprisingly good options due to high speeds. Check the Transporting page for more details!

Mozzarina - there is no objective best Pal for Farming as each Pal produces a unique product when assigned to the Ranch and their Farming skill only affects yield. These three Pals however are highly valued for their Honey, Egg, and Milk respectively which are ingredients for making Cakes needed for breeding.
Vixy - drops Spheres for catching Pals.
Sibelyx / 
Sibelyx Primo - drops High Quality Cloth which sells for a good price.
Orserk - base level 8 Generating Electricity, 2 higher than the next closest. Reaches max level 10 at rank 4 from the Pal Condenser. 
Dynamoff - base level 6 but has a powerful partner skill reducing time taken to hatch eggs. Also a decent flying mount.
Solmora Lux - a solid base level 6, but can't reach max level via the Pal Condenser. Silvance - best base Medicine level at 8. Lots of great Work Suitabilities including level 6 Planting and Handiwork. The only Pal that can reach level 10 Medicine at the Pal Condenser.
Lyleen Noct - base level 7 Medicine and available earlier than Silvance.
Bellanoir Libero - base level 7 Medicine with good Handiwork. Only obtainable through summoning it as a boss and hatching its Dark Egg.Like our guides?
