Elden Ring Spellblade Build - Stats, Weapons, Skills & More

Updated on Aug 23, 2026
Aug 23, 2026

Overview

Spellblade builds combine Sorcery with close-range melee combat, giving you the flexibility of a Mage without forcing you to fight entirely from a distance.

Rather than standing back and repeatedly casting projectiles, a Spellblade moves between weapon attacks, Carian Sword Sorceries, Glintblade Sorceries, and ranged Magic depending on the situation.

Intelligence remains our primary offensive attribute, allowing both our Sorceries and Intelligence-scaling weapons to become stronger as the build progresses. This makes Spellblade one of the most versatile ways to play an Intelligence character, as the same attribute can support both sides of the build.

Carian Sorceries are particularly important. Spells such as Carian Slicer, Carian Piercer, and Carian Greatsword allow your staff to function almost like another melee weapon, while Glintblade Sorceries can create delayed attacks that pressure enemies while you move in for a melee combo.

Shadow of the Erdtree expanded this playstyle significantly with new weapons and Sorceries. Most notably, the Carian Sorcery Sword can function as both a Thrusting Sword and a catalyst for Sorceries, allowing a Spellblade to seamlessly combine weapon attacks and spellcasting without constantly switching equipment.

What Makes a Spellblade Different From a Mage?

A traditional Mage generally wants to create distance and use Sorceries as its primary source of damage. A Spellblade instead treats melee combat and Sorcery as parts of the same moveset.

You might begin an encounter with a delayed Glintblade, move into melee with your weapon, use Carian Slicer for fast Magic damage, punish a larger opening with Carian Piercer, then create distance and return to ranged Sorceries.

The goal is not to cast every spell from maximum range. Spellblade is strongest when you constantly switch between the tools available to you based on the opening.

This also means your melee weapon shouldn't simply be treated as an emergency backup. Weapons with Intelligence scaling can become a major part of your damage output and provide attacks that don't consume FP.

Choosing Between a Staff and Carian Sorcery Sword

Most Spellblade setups will still use a Glintstone Staff alongside a melee weapon. This generally provides stronger dedicated Sorcery scaling and allows you to choose a weapon specifically for its damage, moveset, or Skill.

However, Shadow of the Erdtree introduces the Carian Sorcery Sword, which offers a completely different approach.

Its Heavy Attacks are replaced by the ability to cast Glintstone Sorceries directly through the sword, making it the only weapon that also has Sorcery Scaling and functions as a Sorcery catalyst.

This creates an extremely natural Spellblade playstyle where light attacks handle normal melee combat while heavy attacks cast your equipped Sorcery.

The tradeoff is that the Carian Sorcery Sword gives up its normal Heavy Attacks and doesn't outperform the strongest dedicated staffs at high Intelligence. It should therefore be treated as a unique hybrid option rather than a universal replacement for a staff.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent combination of melee and ranged damage.
  • Intelligence can simultaneously support Sorceries and Magic-scaling weapons.
  • Large selection of weapons compared to a traditional pure caster.
  • Carian sword Sorceries provide extremely strong close-range options.
  • Can use ranged Sorceries whenever approaching an enemy is unsafe.
  • Excellent access to Magic damage and Frostbite.
  • Delayed Glintblade Sorceries can be cast before entering melee range.
  • Shadow of the Erdtree adds several excellent Spellblade weapons and Sorceries.

Cons

  • Requires investment into Vigor, Mind, Intelligence, and usually some Endurance.
  • Individual weapons may require additional Strength or Dexterity.
  • Fighting in melee exposes you to more danger than a traditional ranged Mage.
  • Managing FP and Stamina simultaneously is important.
  • Enemies with high Magic resistance can reduce the effectiveness of both your Sorceries and Magic weapons.
  • Trying to support too many weapons can spread your attributes too thin.

Starting Class, Attribute Leveling and Distribution

Recommended Starting Class: Prisoner

The Prisoner is an excellent starting class for a Spellblade because it begins with relatively high Intelligence and Dexterity, while already having enough Strength to meet the requirements of many early Spellblade weapons.

It also starts with Magic Glintblade, immediately introducing the delayed Sorcery playstyle that works particularly well when combined with melee pressure.

Early in the game, prioritize Vigor and Intelligence. Spellblades fight considerably closer to enemies than traditional ranged Mages, so having enough HP to survive mistakes is important from the beginning.

Aim for around 20 Intelligence early, which improves your Sorceries while giving you access to more Intelligence-based equipment as you progress.

By level 50, 30 Intelligence and 28 Vigor provide a strong balance between damage and survivability. 18 Mind also gives you enough FP to regularly combine Sorceries and weapon Skills without constantly relying on Cerulean Flasks.

From there, Intelligence becomes your primary offensive investment. Reaching around 50-60 Intelligence provides excellent damage for both Sorceries and many Intelligence-scaling weapons, while Vigor should progress toward at least 40.

At level 150, 80 Intelligence gives the build excellent Sorcery damage while maximizing the potential of high-Intelligence weapons and catalysts. 55 Vigor provides considerably more survivability than a traditional glass-cannon Mage, which is especially valuable because the Spellblade regularly fights at close range.

25 Mind provides a comfortable FP pool without sacrificing too many levels that could otherwise support Vigor, Intelligence, or Endurance.

Strength and Dexterity Requirements

The table deliberately leaves Strength and Dexterity at the Prisoner's starting values.

Instead of leveling these attributes automatically, only increase them when required by the weapon you actually plan to use.

For example:

  • Moonveil: 12 Strength / 18 Dexterity / 23 Intelligence
  • Dark Moon Greatsword: 16 Strength / 11 Dexterity / 38 Intelligence
  • Wing of Astel: 7 Strength / 17 Dexterity / 20 Intelligence
  • Death's Poker: 15 Strength / 17 Dexterity / 11 Intelligence
  • Carian Sorcery Sword: 10 Strength / 19 Dexterity / 16 Intelligence

If you choose one of these weapons, take the required points from the later Intelligence, Endurance, or Vigor progression as necessary.

There is little reason for a Spellblade to invest heavily in both Strength and Dexterity simply to keep multiple weapons available.

Why 80 Intelligence?

Intelligence is uniquely valuable for a Spellblade because it can improve both sides of the build simultaneously.

It increases the Sorcery Scaling of Intelligence-based catalysts while also contributing to the damage of many Magic weapons and Magic-infused regular weapons.

This allows the build to reach extremely high Sorcery damage without turning the melee weapon into an afterthought.

However, 80 Intelligence isn't an immediate priority. During progression, Vigor and Mind should remain high enough that you can comfortably fight in melee and regularly cast Sorceries.

DEX/INT Spellblade Alternative

Some Spellblade weapons naturally favor additional Dexterity.

Weapons such as Moonveil, Wing of Astel, and Carian Sorcery Sword require more Dexterity than our baseline progression provides.

For these setups, meet the weapon's Dexterity requirement first and continue prioritizing Intelligence. At higher levels, additional Dexterity can become worthwhile once Intelligence is already well developed.

Dexterity also provides a small improvement to casting speed, giving it additional value on a hybrid melee/caster character.

STR/INT Spellblade Alternative

Weapons such as Dark Moon Greatsword, Royal Greatsword, Helphen's Steeple, and several Magic-infused heavier weapons push the build toward Strength instead.

Meet the Strength requirement first, then continue prioritizing Intelligence unless you're deliberately building a more melee-focused STR/INT hybrid.

Two-handing can also help meet higher Strength requirements without committing as many levels to Strength.

The main principle remains the same:

  • Intelligence is your primary damage attribute. Strength and Dexterity should support your chosen weapon rather than competing with Intelligence unnecessarily.

Best Weapons for Spellblade Builds

Spellblade builds have access to an enormous variety of weapons because Intelligence can contribute to both Sorcery and melee damage. Unique Intelligence weapons provide powerful Skills and specialized movesets, while regular weapons can use Magic or Cold affinity to fit naturally into the build.

The best choice depends on whether you want your weapon to function as a primary damage source, a Sorcery catalyst, a Frostbite applicator, or simply an FP-efficient melee option between spells.

Best Early-Game Spellblade Weapons

Carian Knight's Sword — Best Early Spellblade Weapon

Carian Knight's Sword — Best Early Spellblade Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 10 / Dexterity - 10 / Intelligence - 18

The Carian Knight's Sword is one of the most natural early weapons for a Spellblade. It deals Physical and Magic damage while scaling with Intelligence, allowing your primary casting attribute to contribute to your melee damage.

Its Unique Skill, Carian Grandeur, transforms the sword into a massive magical blade. The Skill can be charged for significantly greater damage and stance pressure, giving the build a powerful punish when an enemy leaves a large opening.

It also requires very little Strength or Dexterity investment, making it easy to incorporate into our Intelligence-focused progression.

Location: Found in a chest carried by a caravan in western Liurnia of the Lakes.

Glintstone Kris — Best Early Skill-Focused Option

Glintstone Kris — Best Lightweight Skill Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 5 / Dexterity - 12 / Intelligence - 16

The Glintstone Kris is an excellent lightweight sidearm for an Intelligence character.

Its Unique Skill, Glintstone Dart, fires a Magic projectile that can be charged before transitioning into a lunging follow-up attack. This allows the weapon to smoothly move between ranged Magic damage and close combat.

Its low weight and requirements also make it extremely easy to incorporate without changing the build's attribute distribution.

Location: Rewarded by Sorceress Sellen after completing her questline while siding with her.

Magic or Cold-Infused Weapons — Best Customizable Option

Regular weapons shouldn't be overlooked simply because Spellblade has access to powerful unique weapons.

Magic affinity gives compatible weapons Intelligence scaling and emphasizes Magic damage, making it the most straightforward choice for a high-Intelligence Spellblade.

Cold affinity adds Frostbite buildup while retaining Intelligence scaling, providing a strong alternative when you want status pressure alongside regular weapon damage.

Weapons with low Strength and Dexterity requirements are particularly attractive because they allow you to continue prioritizing Intelligence.

They also retain customizable Ashes of War, giving them significantly more flexibility than most unique weapons.

Best Spellblade Weapons to Build Around

Dark Moon Greatsword — Best Overall Spellblade Weapon

Dark Moon Greatsword — Best Overall Spellblade Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 16 / Dexterity - 11 / Intelligence - 38

The Dark Moon Greatsword is one of the strongest weapons for a dedicated Intelligence Spellblade.

Its Unique Skill, Moonlight Greatsword, temporarily empowers the weapon with additional Magic damage and Frostbite buildup while allowing charged Heavy Attacks to release Moonlight projectiles without consuming additional FP.

This makes it incredibly FP-efficient. After paying the initial cost to activate the Skill, you gain access to powerful ranged Magic attacks while preserving FP for your Sorceries.

The combination of excellent Intelligence scaling, Frostbite, ranged pressure, and strong charged attacks makes it one of the most complete weapons available to the build.

Location: Obtained from Ranni at the end of her questline beneath the Cathedral of Manus Celes.

Moonveil — Best DEX/INT Spellblade Weapon

Moonveil — Best DEXINT Spellblade Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 12 / Dexterity - 18 / Intelligence - 23

Moonveil remains one of the strongest weapons for combining traditional melee combat with Intelligence.

Its Unique Skill, Transient Moonlight, sheaths the Katana before releasing extremely fast Magic projectiles through either a horizontal or vertical attack.

This gives the Spellblade access to quick burst damage and range without needing to switch back to a staff every time an enemy creates distance.

Moonveil also has innate Blood Loss buildup, giving it another source of pressure even though Bleed isn't the primary focus of the build.

Its additional Dexterity requirement makes it best suited to a DEX/INT Spellblade rather than the completely Intelligence-focused progression.

Location: Dropped by the Magma Wyrm in Gael Tunnel.

Carian Sorcery Sword — Best True Hybrid Spellblade Weapon

Carian Sorcery Sword — Best True Hybrid Spellblade Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 10 / Dexterity - 19 / Intelligence - 16

The Carian Sorcery Sword is arguably the weapon that most directly represents the Spellblade playstyle.

Its light attacks function as a normal Thrusting Sword, while its Heavy Attack input is replaced by the ability to cast equipped Sorceries directly through the weapon.

This allows you to transition between melee attacks and Sorceries without switching between a weapon and staff, creating one of the smoothest hybrid playstyles in Elden Ring.

The tradeoff is that you lose access to normal Heavy Attacks, and a dedicated high-end Glintstone Staff can provide stronger Sorcery Scaling. The Carian Sorcery Sword therefore prioritizes versatility and seamless combat flow over maximum casting damage.

Location: Found in a chest at Castle Ensis in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Wing of Astel — Best Magic/Frost Setup Weapon

Wing of Astel — Best MagicFrost Setup Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 7 / Dexterity - 17 / Intelligence - 20

The Wing of Astel is an excellent lightweight weapon for aggressive Intelligence characters.

Its Heavy Attacks release short-range magical projectiles without consuming FP, giving you additional ranged pressure between Sorcery casts.

Its Unique Skill, Nebula, creates a field of exploding stars in front of the player. Against large enemies, multiple explosions can connect simultaneously, producing enormous damage and stance pressure.

The weapon is particularly effective when fighting large bosses where Nebula can consistently land multiple hits.

Location: Found in a chest above the Ainsel River, accessible through the northern section of Uhl Palace Ruins.

Death's Poker — Best Frostbite Spellblade Weapon

Death's Poker — Best Frostbite Spellblade Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 15 / Dexterity - 17 / Intelligence - 11

Death's Poker is unusual because its relatively low Intelligence requirement doesn't reflect how powerful its Unique Skill can be on an Intelligence build.

Ghostflame Ignition creates ghostflame that can be followed with either an explosive attack or a trail of lingering ghostflame. The Skill deals Magic damage and can rapidly build Frostbite.

This gives Spellblades an excellent source of both burst damage and area denial.

The weapon's regular melee damage doesn't benefit from Intelligence nearly as much as its Skill, making Death's Poker primarily a Skill-focused Spellblade weapon rather than a conventional Intelligence Greatsword.

Location: Dropped by the Death Rite Bird southeast of the Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank in Caelid at night.

Star-Lined Sword — Best DLC Multi-Hit DEX/INT Weapon

Star-Lined Sword — Best DLC Multi-Hit DEXINT Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 10 / Dexterity - 23 / Intelligence - 21

The Star-Lined Sword provides Shadow of the Erdtree Spellblades with a fast DEX/INT Katana built around aggressive magical attacks.

Its Unique Skill, Onze's Line of Stars, performs an expanding sequence of Magic-infused slashes. Additional inputs extend the combo, eventually leading into a powerful finishing attack.

This works particularly well with equipment that rewards successive attacks and provides an aggressive alternative to Moonveil's more burst-oriented Transient Moonlight.

The relatively high Dexterity requirement makes it better suited to a dedicated DEX/INT hybrid.

Location: Dropped by Demi-Human Queen Marigga in the Cerulean Coast.

Royal Greatsword — Best Heavy STR/INT Option

Royal Greatsword — Best Heavy STRINT Option

Requirements: Strength - 26 / Dexterity - 18 / Intelligence - 22

The Royal Greatsword is a powerful option for Spellblades who want to combine Sorcery with a much heavier melee playstyle.

Its Unique Skill, Wolf's Assault, launches the player forward into an attack before producing a Frost-infused explosion.

The weapon requires substantial investment into both Strength and Dexterity compared with our standard progression, so it is best reserved for a dedicated STR/INT hybrid.

In return, it provides excellent raw melee damage and a much heavier playstyle than most traditional Spellblade weapons.

Location: Dropped by Blaidd near Ranni's Rise near the end of Ranni's questline.

Sword of Night and Flame — Best INT/FAI Hybrid Option

Sword of Night and Flame — Best INTFAI Hybrid Option

Requirements: Strength - 12 / Dexterity - 12 / Intelligence - 24 / Faith - 24

The Sword of Night and Flame is less suited to our standard pure Intelligence progression because it requires significant Faith investment, but it remains one of Elden Ring's most distinctive hybrid caster weapons.

Night-and-Flame Stance provides two completely different attacks: a Magic beam and a sweeping Fire attack.

This gives an INT/FAI Spellblade access to multiple damage types from a single weapon and fits naturally into a character already combining several schools of magic.

However, the 24 Faith requirement means you should build around the weapon specifically rather than adding it casually to a standard 80 Intelligence character.

Location: Found inside a locked room in Caria Manor.

Glintstone Kris — Best Lightweight Skill Weapon

Glintstone Kris — Best Lightweight Skill Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 5 / Dexterity - 12 / Intelligence - 16

The Glintstone Kris remains relevant far beyond the early game because of how powerful and efficient Glintstone Dart can become.

Its projectile gives the Spellblade a quick ranged punish, while the follow-up thrust allows you to immediately close distance and return to melee.

Its extremely low weight also makes it easy to carry alongside another weapon and staff, making the Kris an excellent secondary weapon rather than something that must occupy your primary slot.

Location: Rewarded by Sorceress Sellen after completing her questline while siding with her.

Honorable Mentions

Helphen's Steeple — A strong INT Greatsword with innate Frostbite and a Skill that further buffs the weapon with Magic damage and additional Frost buildup.

Bastard's Stars — An INT-focused Flail with Nebula, providing another excellent option against large targets, although Wing of Astel generally offers a more convenient moveset.

Clayman's Harpoon — One of the most interesting customizable Intelligence weapons because it has innate Magic damage while still allowing affinities and Ashes of War.

Magic or Cold Milady — An excellent DLC option for players who want the Light Greatsword moveset while retaining customizable Ashes of War.

Magic or Cold Backhand Blades — A fast DLC alternative for more aggressive Spellblades, particularly when combined with mobility-focused Ashes of War.

Death Ritual Spear — A strong INT Spear whose Unique Skill, Spearcall Ritual, can rain magical spears over an area and perform especially well against larger targets.

Carian Knight's Sword — Remains a solid thematic Intelligence weapon throughout the game, although the stronger build-around options eventually overtake it.

Choosing Your Spellblade Weapon

For a general high-Intelligence Spellblade, Dark Moon Greatsword is one of the strongest complete packages available.

Choose Moonveil or Star-Lined Sword if you prefer a faster DEX/INT playstyle.

Choose Carian Sorcery Sword if you want the most seamless possible transition between Sorcery and melee combat.

Choose Wing of Astel or Death's Poker if you want to build heavily around powerful weapon Skills.

Choose a Magic or Cold-infused regular weapon if you value customizable Ashes of War and want more control over your moveset.

Your weapon should complement your Sorceries rather than completely replacing them. The strongest Spellblade isn't necessarily the character with the strongest sword — it's the character that can efficiently transition between melee attacks, weapon Skills, and Sorceries depending on the opening.

Best Glintstone Staffs for Spellblade Builds

Most Spellblade builds still benefit from carrying a dedicated Glintstone Staff, even when their melee weapon is an important part of the build. Your staff determines the strength of your Sorceries, while certain staffs also provide bonuses to the Carian spells that naturally fit the Spellblade playstyle.

Carian Glintstone Staff — Best Spellblade Staff

Carian Glintstone Staff — Best Spellblade Staff

Requirements: Strength - 6 / Intelligence - 24

The Carian Glintstone Staff is one of the most natural choices for a dedicated Spellblade because it increases the damage of Carian Sword Sorceries by 15%.

This directly benefits some of the most important close-range spells in the build, including Carian Slicer, Carian Greatsword, Carian Piercer, and Adula's Moonblade.

Its Sorcery Scaling isn't as high as the strongest general-purpose staffs at very high Intelligence, but the additional damage to Carian Sword Sorceries makes it an excellent specialized option when those spells form a major part of your playstyle.

Location: Found in Carian Study Hall in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Academy Glintstone Staff — Best Midgame General Staff

Academy Glintstone Staff — Best Midgame General Staff

Requirements: Strength - 6 / Intelligence - 28

The Academy Glintstone Staff is an excellent general-purpose option during the midgame.

It doesn't provide a bonus to a specific school of Sorcery, but instead offers strong Sorcery Scaling without increasing FP consumption or forcing the build into a particular spell selection.

This makes it particularly useful while your Spellblade is still experimenting with Carian Sorceries, Glintblades, ranged projectiles, and other utility spells.

Location: Obtained from Thops after giving him the Academy Glintstone Key, or dropped by him.

Carian Regal Scepter — Best High-Intelligence Staff

Carian Regal Scepter — Best High-Intelligence Staff

Requirements: Strength - 8 / Dexterity - 10 / Intelligence - 60

The Carian Regal Scepter is one of the best general-purpose staffs for a high-Intelligence Spellblade.

At the 80 Intelligence target of our endgame build, it provides excellent Sorcery Scaling without the increased FP costs associated with Lusat's Glintstone Staff.

It also increases the damage of Full Moon Sorceries, making it particularly useful if you include Rennala's Full Moon or Ranni's Dark Moon as a powerful ranged opener.

For a Spellblade using a wide selection of Sorceries rather than focusing almost entirely on Carian Sword Sorceries, this is one of the best endgame choices.

Location: Obtained by exchanging the Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen with Finger Reader Enia after defeating Rennala.

Lusat's Glintstone Staff — Best Maximum Sorcery Damage Option

Lusat's Glintstone Staff

Requirements: Strength - 10 / Intelligence - 52

Lusat's Glintstone Staff provides extremely high Sorcery Scaling, making it a powerful option when your priority is maximizing spell damage.

The downside is significant: Sorceries cast while using Lusat's Staff consume 50% more FP.

That penalty is especially noticeable on a Spellblade because FP is already shared between Sorceries and weapon Skills. For general exploration and longer encounters, the additional damage often isn't worth the reduced FP efficiency.

It is best treated as a maximum-damage option for specific encounters rather than the default staff for the entire build.

Location: Found in a chest after defeating the Nox Swordstress and Nox Monk in Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

Staff of the Great Beyond — Best DLC Utility Staff

Staff of the Great Beyond

Requirements: Strength - 7 / Intelligence - 25 / Faith - 25

The Staff of the Great Beyond is a unique DLC option because it can cast both Sorceries and Incantations.

This opens the door to an extremely versatile hybrid Spellblade that can combine Intelligence Sorceries with Faith-based buffs and Incantations without constantly changing catalysts.

However, its 25 Faith requirement makes it unsuitable for our standard 80 Intelligence progression unless you specifically build around this hybrid functionality.

For a normal INT Spellblade, the additional Faith investment isn't necessary. For an INT/FAI hybrid, however, it provides something no conventional Glintstone Staff can replicate.

Location: Obtained by exchanging the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers with Finger Reader Enia.

Which Staff Should You Use?

For a Spellblade heavily focused on Carian Sword Sorceries, use the Carian Glintstone Staff.

For general progression, the Academy Glintstone Staff provides an excellent balance of damage and flexibility.

Once you reach very high Intelligence, the Carian Regal Scepter becomes one of the strongest general-purpose options.

Use Lusat's Glintstone Staff when maximum Sorcery damage is more important than FP efficiency.

The Staff of the Great Beyond should only be considered if you're deliberately creating an INT/FAI hybrid.

The Carian Sorcery Sword can replace a staff entirely when you value seamless transitions between melee attacks and Sorcery over maximum Sorcery Scaling.

Best Sorceries for Spellblade Builds

Spellblade builds benefit most from Sorceries that can be integrated directly into melee combat rather than simply replacing your weapon with ranged spell spam. Carian Sword Sorceries are particularly valuable, while delayed Glintblade spells can create pressure before you move into melee range.

A good Spellblade loadout should include a mixture of fast melee spells, heavier punish options, delayed pressure, and at least one reliable ranged attack.

Carian Slicer — Best Overall Spellblade Sorcery

Carian Slicer — Best Overall Spellblade Sorcery

Requirements: Intelligence - 14

Carian Slicer creates a magical sword that performs an extremely fast sweeping attack directly in front of the caster.

Its combination of high damage, low FP cost, and fast casting speed makes it one of the most efficient Sorceries in the game and arguably the defining spell of the Spellblade playstyle.

Carian Slicer can be woven into close-range combat almost like a normal melee attack, making it excellent for punishing small openings where slower Sorceries would be unsafe.

It also benefits from the Carian Glintstone Staff's bonus to Carian Sword Sorceries.

Location: Purchased from Sorceress Sellen after giving her the Royal House Scroll.

Carian Piercer — Best for Reach and Stagger

Carian Piercer — Best for Reach and Stagger

Requirements: Intelligence - 27

Carian Piercer creates a long magical greatsword and thrusts it directly forward.

Compared with Carian Slicer, Piercer is slower but provides significantly greater reach and stopping power. Charging the spell further increases its damage and makes it excellent for punishing enemies approaching directly from in front of you.

Its thrusting attack also makes it particularly useful in narrow spaces where wide sword swings can be awkward.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in the gardens of Caria Manor.

Adula's Moonblade — Best Frostbite Sorcery

Adula's Moonblade — Best Frostbite Sorcery

Requirements: Intelligence - 32

Adula's Moonblade creates a massive magical greatsword that releases a wave of cold Magic after the initial swing.

Both portions of the attack can connect at close range, making it particularly powerful when used like a true melee Sorcery rather than simply firing the projectile from a distance.

The spell also builds Frostbite, giving the Spellblade access to another powerful source of status pressure.

It is especially effective against groups and larger enemies due to the enormous width of the blade and projectile.

Location: Obtained by defeating Glintstone Dragon Adula near the Cathedral of Manus Celes.

Greatblade Phalanx — Best Melee Setup Sorcery

Greatblade Phalanx — Best Melee Setup Sorcery

Requirements: Intelligence - 29

Greatblade Phalanx summons three large magical blades that remain above the caster before automatically launching toward a nearby enemy.

The delayed nature of the spell is what makes it so valuable for a Spellblade. You can cast Greatblade Phalanx before entering melee range, then attack alongside the blades once they trigger.

The blades also deal substantial stance damage, helping create opportunities for critical attacks or heavier Sorceries.

This makes Greatblade Phalanx excellent for creating pressure without interrupting your melee offense.

Location: Obtained after defeating Bols, Carian Knight, in the Cuckoo's Evergaol.

Magic Glintblade — Best Delayed Pressure Sorcery

Magic Glintblade — Best Delayed Pressure Sorcery

Requirements: Intelligence - 14

Magic Glintblade creates a magical sigil that fires a projectile after a short delay.

Instead of immediately attacking the enemy, the delay allows you to cast several Glintblades before moving forward and engaging in melee. The enemy then has to deal with both your weapon attacks and incoming magical projectiles.

It is also particularly useful against enemies that aggressively dodge when a spell is cast, as their dodge can occur before the delayed projectile actually fires.

Prisoner characters begin the game with Magic Glintblade, making it available immediately to our recommended starting class.

Location: Prisoner starting Sorcery, or purchased from Miriel, Pastor of Vows at the Church of Vows.

Carian Greatsword — Best AoE Melee Sorcery

Carian Greatsword

Requirements: Intelligence - 24

Carian Greatsword creates a massive magical blade that sweeps across a wide area in front of the caster.

While Carian Slicer is generally better against individual enemies, Carian Greatsword's huge horizontal swing makes it much more effective when fighting groups or enemies positioned around you.

Its additional reach also allows you to hit targets that would be outside Carian Slicer's effective range.

Location: Purchased from Miriel, Pastor of Vows at the Church of Vows.

Miriam's Vanishing — Best Spellblade Mobility Sorcery

Miriam's Vanishing — Best Spellblade Mobility Sorcery

Requirements: Intelligence - 26

Miriam's Vanishing is one of the most interesting Spellblade additions from Shadow of the Erdtree.

Rather than dealing damage directly, the Sorcery causes you to disappear and reappear a short distance away, providing a magical repositioning tool that fits naturally into close-range Sorcery combat.

It can also transition into certain Sorceries more quickly after teleporting, allowing an experienced Spellblade to reposition and immediately retaliate.

Unlike another projectile, Miriam's Vanishing gives the build something its existing toolkit doesn't already provide: dedicated magical mobility.

Location: Purchased from Count Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Glintstone Icecrag — Best Ranged Utility Sorcery

Glintstone Icecrag

Requirements: Intelligence - 15

Glintstone Icecrag provides the Spellblade with a straightforward ranged projectile that also builds Frostbite.

It isn't as spectacular as many of the melee-focused Sorceries, but that simplicity is precisely why it is useful. Not every enemy should be approached in melee, and Icecrag gives you a relatively efficient ranged option without changing the identity of the build.

Its Frostbite buildup also synergizes naturally with weapons such as Dark Moon Greatsword, Death's Poker, or Cold-infused weapons.

Location: Purchased from Preceptor Seluvis after progressing his questline.

Utility and Honorable Mentions

Ranni's Dark Moon — Best Boss Opener

Ranni's Dark Moon — Best Boss Opener

Ranni's Dark Moon requires 68 Intelligence and is expensive and slow, making it poorly suited to normal Spellblade combat.

However, it is an excellent boss opener because it applies Frostbite buildup and temporarily reduces the target's Magic Damage Negation. This allows your subsequent Magic weapons and Sorceries to deal more damage.

Loretta's Greatbow — Best Long-Range Option

Loretta's Greatbow

Loretta's Greatbow gives the build access to extremely long-range Magic damage.

You won't use it frequently during normal melee combat, but it is excellent for pulling enemies, eliminating dangerous targets from range, or beginning encounters before transitioning into Spellblade combat.

Terra Magica — Best Stationary Damage Buff

Terra Magica

Terra Magica creates a sigil that increases Magic damage while you remain inside its area.

It can significantly increase the damage of both Sorceries and Magic-based weapon attacks, but the requirement to remain within the sigil makes it less natural for a mobile Spellblade than for a traditional Mage.

Use it when an encounter allows you to control the battlefield rather than trying to force yourself to remain inside the area.

Zamor Ice Storm — Best Close-Range Frost AoE

Zamor Ice Storm

Zamor Ice Storm creates a freezing storm around the caster that deals Magic damage and rapidly builds Frostbite.

Its close-range area makes it particularly useful when surrounded or against large enemies that remain near you. The long casting animation prevents it from being a universal option, but with the correct opening it can apply Frostbite extremely quickly.

Recommended Spellblade Loadout

You don't need all eight primary Sorceries equipped simultaneously. A balanced loadout could include:

  • Carian Slicer — Fast melee damage
  • Carian Piercer — Reach and heavier punish
  • Greatblade Phalanx — Pre-engagement pressure
  • Magic Glintblade — Delayed ranged pressure.
  • Adula's Moonblade — AoE and Frostbite
  • Miriam's Vanishing — Mobility
  • Glintstone Icecrag — Reliable ranged option

The remaining Memory Slots can then be adjusted depending on the encounter.

Spellblade Sorceries should complement your weapon rather than make it irrelevant. Use fast Carian Sorceries during melee exchanges, delayed Glintblades to create pressure before approaching, and ranged Sorceries when closing the distance would unnecessarily put you at risk.

Ashes of War

Spellblade builds can use Magic and Cold affinities to turn regular weapons into Intelligence-scaling alternatives to unique weapons. This also gives you the freedom to select an Ash of War that complements your Sorceries and fills a role your spell loadout may be missing.

Carian Sovereignty — Best Overall Spellblade Ash of War

Carian Sovereignty transforms your weapon into a massive magical greatsword before delivering an extremely powerful charged attack. A second input follows with a wide magical sweep.

The Skill deals enormous Magic damage and stance damage, making it one of the strongest options for punishing large openings or staggered bosses.

Its long charge time means you cannot use it recklessly, but when an enemy gives you enough time to fully charge the attack, the payoff is exceptional.

It fits the Spellblade identity perfectly by turning a regular melee weapon into a devastating Carian magical weapon.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab inside a cave beneath the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Carian Grandeur — Best Base-Game Carian Option

Carian Grandeur transforms your weapon into a magical greatsword that can be charged through multiple stages for increased damage.

It provides a strong base-game alternative to Carian Sovereignty and benefits heavily from Intelligence when used with Magic affinity.

The ability to choose how long you charge the Skill also gives it some flexibility: use a shorter activation during smaller openings or fully charge it when a boss is staggered.

Location: Found on a corpse above Caria Manor, accessible by dropping down from the manor's upper sections.

Glintblade Phalanx — Best Stance-Breaking Option

Glintblade Phalanx creates magical blades around the player before launching them toward an enemy.

The delayed projectiles allow you to activate the Skill before approaching, then move into melee while the Glintblades attack alongside you.

It also deals excellent stance damage, making it particularly effective for creating critical-hit opportunities while maintaining melee pressure.

This makes it a natural fit for the same delayed-pressure playstyle as Magic Glintblade and Greatblade Phalanx.

Location: Obtained from Rogier's Rapier +8 after speaking with Sorcerer Rogier at Roundtable Hold.

Ice Spear — Best Ranged Cold Ash of War

Ice Spear creates and launches a projectile of freezing energy from compatible polearms.

It deals Magic damage, builds Frostbite, and gives a melee Spellblade access to an efficient ranged attack without spending a Memory Slot on another projectile Sorcery.

This is particularly useful on a Cold-infused Spear or Twinblade, where both the weapon and Skill can contribute to Frostbite pressure.

Location: Dropped by a Night's Cavalry near the Gate Town Bridge in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Chilling Mist — Best Frostbite Utility Ash of War

Chilling Mist creates a cloud of freezing mist before temporarily coating your weapon with Frost.

The mist itself builds Frostbite, while the weapon buff adds additional Frost buildup to subsequent attacks.

This makes it excellent for an aggressive Spellblade that wants to apply Frostbite through melee combat rather than relying entirely on Sorceries such as Adula's Moonblade or Glintstone Icecrag.

Once Frostbite activates, you can take advantage of the target's temporarily reduced Damage Negation with both your weapon and Sorceries.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab south of Renna's Rise in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Choosing Magic or Cold Affinity

Magic affinity is generally the better choice when you want to maximize the weapon's direct Magic damage from your high Intelligence.

Cold affinity sacrifices some raw Magic scaling in exchange for Frostbite buildup, making it excellent for hybrid weapon/Sorcery combat.

For an 80 Intelligence Spellblade, Magic is the straightforward raw-damage option. Cold becomes more attractive when your overall setup actively takes advantage of Frostbite.

Your Ash of War should also complement your Sorceries rather than duplicate them. If you already have plenty of ranged spells, Carian Sovereignty or Chilling Mist may add more value than another projectile. If your spell loadout is heavily melee-focused, Ice Spear or Glintblade Phalanx can give your weapon additional ranged pressure.

Best Armor for Spellblade Builds

Spellblade builds regularly fight at close to medium range, so armor needs to balance offense with enough protection to survive melee encounters. Unlike a traditional Mage, maximizing Sorcery damage at the cost of all defense isn't always the best approach.

Several armor pieces can directly improve parts of the Spellblade playstyle, while mixed armor remains an excellent option when you simply need more Poise and Damage Negation.

Spellblade Set — Best for Magic Weapon Skills

Spellblade Set

The Spellblade Set is the most thematically appropriate armor for the build, but its bonus is more specific than its name suggests.

Each piece increases the damage of Magic- and Cold-damaging weapon Skills by 2%, for a total 8% increase when wearing the complete set.

This makes it excellent for Skill-focused weapons such as Moonveil, Wing of Astel, Glintstone Kris, and Death's Poker, as well as compatible Magic Ashes of War.

Importantly, the Spellblade Set does not increase Sorcery damage or the Magic damage of normal weapon attacks. Its value depends on how heavily your setup relies on damaging weapon Skills.

Location: Obtained from Sorcerer Rogier after progressing his questline.

Rakshasa Set — Best General Offensive Option

Rakshasa Set

The Rakshasa Set is a much broader offensive option from Shadow of the Erdtree.

Each piece increases all damage dealt by 2%, allowing the complete set to provide an 8% damage increase. Unlike the Spellblade Set, this isn't restricted to weapon Skills, meaning it can improve both your melee attacks and Sorceries.

This makes Rakshasa particularly attractive for a true hybrid Spellblade where neither the weapon nor Sorceries completely dominate your damage output.

The tradeoff is lower effective protection compared with similarly weighted defensive armor, making the setup less forgiving in close-range combat.

Location: Dropped by Rakshasa in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum.

Snow Witch Hat — Best for Cold Sorceries

Snow Witch Hat

The Snow Witch Hat increases the damage of Cold Sorceries by 10%.

This makes it particularly useful when Adula's Moonblade forms an important part of your Spellblade setup. It also supports other Cold Sorceries you may incorporate into the build.

Only the hat provides the damage bonus, so there is no need to wear the complete Snow Witch Set. Use your remaining armor slots for defense and Poise.

Location: Found in a chest on the upper floor of Renna's Rise after progressing Ranni's questline.

Solitude Set — Best Defensive Option

Solitude Set

The Solitude Set provides excellent Damage Negation and very high Poise, making it one of the strongest defensive choices for a melee-focused Spellblade.

Additional protection is particularly valuable when using slower melee Sorceries such as Carian Piercer, Adula's Moonblade, or charged Carian attacks, where poor timing can leave you exposed.

The complete set is extremely heavy, so most Spellblades should use individual pieces rather than attempting to wear the entire set.

Location: Dropped by the Blackgaol Knight in the Western Nameless Mausoleum in Gravesite Plain.

High-Poise Mixed Armor — Best General Setup

For many Spellblades, the best armor isn't a complete matching set.

Choose whichever offensive piece supports your setup, then use the remaining slots to reach a comfortable amount of Poise and Damage Negation while maintaining Medium Equip Load.

For example:

  • Skill-focused Spellblade: Spellblade Set pieces
  • Cold Sorcery Spellblade: Snow Witch Hat + defensive pieces
  • General offensive Spellblade: Rakshasa pieces
  • Defensive melee Spellblade: High-Poise mixed armor

Because Spellblades regularly transition between casting and melee combat, survivability has more practical value here than on a character that spends the entire encounter casting from maximum range.

Choosing Your Armor

The Spellblade Set is best when your damage is heavily centered around Magic or Cold weapon Skills.

The Snow Witch Hat becomes the better specialized headpiece when Cold Sorceries such as Adula's Moonblade are a major part of your setup.

The Rakshasa Set provides the strongest straightforward offensive option when you want a bonus that applies across both sides of the build.

For general progression, however, simply wearing the strongest armor available while maintaining Medium Equip Load is perfectly viable.

Your armor should support whichever part of the Spellblade toolkit you use most rather than forcing you to wear the Spellblade Set simply because of its name.

Best Talismans for Spellblade Builds

Spellblade builds benefit from Talismans that improve Sorcery damage, Magic damage, weapon Skills, or casting speed. Since the build combines several different sources of damage, your ideal setup depends heavily on whether you lean more toward Sorceries or melee combat.

Graven-Mass Talisman — Best for Sorcery Damage

Graven-Mass Talisman — Best for Sorcery Damage

The Graven-Mass Talisman increases the potency of Sorceries by 8%, making it one of the strongest general Talismans for any Spellblade that regularly uses spells.

Unlike more specialized options, it benefits your entire Sorcery loadout, including Carian Slicer, Carian Piercer, Adula's Moonblade, Greatblade Phalanx, and ranged Sorceries.

It provides no benefit to your weapon attacks or weapon Skills, so Skill-heavy Spellblades may prefer another offensive option.

Location: Found inside Albinauric Rise in the Consecrated Snowfield.

Magic Scorpion Charm — Best General Magic Damage Talisman

Magic Scorpion Charm

The Magic Scorpion Charm increases Magic damage by 12%, making it particularly powerful for Spellblades because it can improve multiple parts of the build simultaneously.

Magic-based Sorceries, Magic weapon attacks, and many Magic-damaging weapon Skills can all benefit from the bonus.

The downside is that it also increases Physical damage taken by 10%, which is more dangerous for a Spellblade than a traditional ranged Mage because you regularly fight at close range.

Location: Obtained from Preceptor Seluvis during his questline after giving him the Amber Starlight.

Shard of Alexander — Best for Weapon Skill Damage

Shard of Alexander

The Shard of Alexander increases weapon Skill damage by 15%.

This is one of the strongest choices for Spellblades using weapons such as Moonveil, Wing of Astel, Glintstone Kris, Death's Poker, or Star-Lined Sword, where the Unique Skill contributes significantly to your overall damage.

It also works extremely well with damaging Ashes of War such as Carian Sovereignty and Carian Grandeur.

If your weapon Skill is only an occasional utility tool, however, a Talisman that improves Sorceries or general Magic damage may provide more consistent value.

Location: Obtained at the end of Iron Fist Alexander's questline in Crumbling Farum Azula.

Godfrey Icon — Best for Charged Spells and Skills

Godfrey Icon — Best for Charged Spells and Skills

The Godfrey Icon increases the damage of charged spells and Skills by 15%.

This makes it particularly useful for Spellblades using chargeable Sorceries and Skills such as Carian Piercer, Magic Glintblade, Carian Grandeur, and Carian Sovereignty.

The bonus only applies when the relevant attack is actually charged, so it is most valuable on a setup deliberately built around creating openings for powerful charged attacks.

Location: Dropped by Godefroy the Grafted in the Golden Lineage Evergaol.

Radagon Icon — Best for Casting Speed

Radagon Icon

The Radagon Icon shortens spell casting time by providing 30 virtual Dexterity toward casting speed.

Spellblades often cast Sorceries at close range, where a faster animation can make a significant difference. This makes the Talisman particularly useful when weaving spells such as Carian Slicer, Carian Piercer, and other Sorceries into melee combat.

Its value decreases on builds that already invest heavily into Dexterity, since casting speed has a cap.

Location: Found inside Raya Lucaria Academy, accessible from the Debate Parlor.

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman — Best Defensive Option

Dragon Crest

The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman significantly reduces incoming Physical damage in PvE.

Spellblades spend much more time within melee range than traditional Mages, making additional survivability especially valuable.

It is also an excellent way to offset some of the increased damage taken when using the Magic Scorpion Charm, or simply provide a safer, flexible fourth slot for difficult bosses.

Location: Found in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.

Two-Headed Turtle Talisman — Best Stamina Utility

Two-Headed Turtle Talisman

The Two-Headed Turtle Talisman greatly increases Stamina recovery speed.

Spellblades use Stamina for weapon attacks, dodging, and casting, so maintaining enough Stamina to transition between all three is important during aggressive encounters.

It doesn't directly increase damage, but it can make the hybrid playstyle considerably smoother, especially when frequently switching between melee combos and Sorceries.

Before entering Shadow of the Erdtree, the Green Turtle Talisman provides a weaker base-game alternative.

Location: Found in a cave behind a waterfall near Rivermouth Cave in Gravesite Plain.

Choosing Your Talismans

For a balanced Spellblade:

  • Graven-Mass Talisman + Magic Scorpion Charm + Shard of Alexander + flexible fourth slot

For a Sorcery-focused Spellblade:

  • Graven-Mass Talisman + Magic Scorpion Charm + Radagon Icon + flexible fourth slot

For a weapon Skill-focused Spellblade:

  • Shard of Alexander + Magic Scorpion Charm + Godfrey Icon + flexible fourth slot

For a safer melee Spellblade:

  • Graven-Mass Talisman + Shard of Alexander + Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman + Two-Headed Turtle Talisman

Your final selection should reflect which part of the Spellblade toolkit you actually use. Graven-Mass Talisman does nothing for your weapon Skills, while Shard of Alexander does nothing for your Sorceries, so blindly stacking the most popular Magic Talismans isn't necessarily optimal.

A true hybrid setup usually benefits most from combining one Sorcery bonus, one weapon Skill bonus, and one broader Magic or utility bonus, then adjusting the final slot for the encounter.

Spellblade Playstyle Tips

Spellblade builds are strongest when melee attacks, Sorceries, and weapon Skills are treated as one combined toolkit. You aren't restricted to fighting like a traditional Mage or a pure melee character. Instead, constantly switch between your options depending on distance, enemy behavior, and the size of the opening available.

Use Sorceries to Create Melee Openings

Sorceries don't always need to be your primary source of damage.

Delayed spells such as Magic Glintblade and Greatblade Phalanx can be cast before approaching an enemy. While the projectiles prepare to fire, move into melee range and begin attacking.

This forces enemies to deal with pressure from multiple directions and allows your Sorceries to support your weapon attacks rather than interrupting them.

Use Carian Slicer for Small Openings

Carian Slicer is extremely fast and FP-efficient, making it perfect for openings where a slower weapon attack or Sorcery would be unsafe.

Treat it almost like another melee attack in your moveset rather than a traditional spell.

Against fast enemies, alternating between your weapon and Carian Slicer gives you much more flexibility than repeatedly attempting larger Sorceries.

Save Heavy Sorceries for Large Openings

Spells such as Carian Piercer and Adula's Moonblade can deal excellent damage, but their longer animations make them much easier to punish.

Use them after large enemy attacks, stance breaks, or whenever you have enough distance to safely complete the cast.

The same principle applies to powerful Ashes of War such as Carian Sovereignty. Maximum theoretical damage means very little if the attack is interrupted before it connects.

Take Advantage of Frostbite

Spellblades have excellent access to Frostbite through Cold weapons and Sorceries such as Adula's Moonblade and Glintstone Icecrag.

Triggering Frostbite deals a burst of damage based on the enemy's maximum HP and temporarily causes them to take increased damage.

Once Frostbite activates, use the debuff window to pressure the enemy with your strongest Magic attacks, weapon Skills, and Sorceries.

Don't Spend FP When Your Weapon Can Do the Job

One of the biggest advantages of playing a Spellblade instead of a pure caster is having a powerful melee weapon that costs no FP to use normally.

Against weaker enemies, regular weapon attacks are often more efficient than spending FP on Sorceries.

Save your FP for dangerous enemies, weapon Skills, ranged situations, and encounters where your Sorceries provide a meaningful advantage.

Weapons such as Dark Moon Greatsword and Wing of Astel are particularly useful because they can also provide ranged attacks without repeatedly consuming FP.

Use Your Weapon Skill as Part of Your Rotation

Powerful weapon Skills shouldn't be treated as something separate from your Sorceries.

For example, a Moonveil Spellblade can use Greatblade Phalanx to create pressure, engage with normal Katana attacks, and punish a larger opening with Transient Moonlight.

A Wing of Astel setup can use Sorceries at range before moving close enough to punish a large enemy with Nebula.

Think about what your weapon Skill provides that your equipped Sorceries don't.

Use Miriam's Vanishing to Reposition

Miriam's Vanishing gives DLC Spellblades a unique way to reposition during magical combat.

Rather than only using conventional rolls to create distance, the spell can help you reposition before transitioning into another Sorcery.

It is particularly useful for a highly mobile Spellblade that wants to remain close enough to immediately counterattack rather than retreating completely out of melee range.

Switch Between Magic and Cold Weapons

Magic affinity generally provides stronger direct Magic damage on a high-Intelligence build, while Cold affinity trades some raw scaling for Frostbite buildup.

You don't necessarily need to commit to one affinity for the entire game.

Against enemies vulnerable to Frostbite, Cold can provide excellent additional pressure. Against Frostbite-resistant or immune enemies, switching to Magic can give you more consistent direct damage.

Keep a Reliable Ranged Option

Being a Spellblade doesn't mean every fight should happen at melee range.

Flying enemies, dangerous groups, environmental hazards, and certain bosses can make approaching unnecessarily risky.

Keep at least one efficient ranged Sorcery available so you can fight at distance when the encounter demands it rather than forcing the Spellblade playstyle into situations where it doesn't work well.

Manage Both FP and Stamina

Spellblades need to manage two resources simultaneously.

Sorceries and weapon Skills consume FP, while casting, attacking, sprinting, and dodging also consume Stamina.

Avoid finishing an aggressive sequence with an empty Stamina bar. Always preserve enough to dodge or reposition if the enemy immediately retaliates.

Likewise, don't spend your entire FP bar on weapon Skills and leave yourself unable to use the Sorceries that give the build its versatility.

Adjust Your Talismans to Your Main Damage Source

Your Talisman setup should reflect how you're actually playing the build.

If Sorceries are dealing most of your damage, prioritize Graven-Mass Talisman and casting-related bonuses.

If weapon Skills such as Transient Moonlight, Nebula, or Carian Sovereignty are carrying the build, Shard of Alexander becomes considerably more valuable.

A balanced Spellblade can combine both rather than maximizing only one side of the build.

Use Magic Resistance as a Reason to Adapt

One weakness of Spellblade is that both your weapon and Sorceries can become heavily dependent on Magic damage.

Against enemies with high Magic resistance, don't repeatedly force the same attacks. Frostbite can help, while weapons with strong Physical components can provide another source of damage.

You can also use alternative affinities or equipment when you know an encounter heavily resists your primary damage type.

Play at the Range That Gives You the Advantage

The defining strength of a Spellblade is that you don't have to commit to one range.

If an enemy is dangerous up close, use Sorceries.

If an enemy constantly closes the distance, punish them with Carian Slicer, your weapon, or a close-range Skill.

If they retreat, transition immediately back into ranged pressure.

Instead of constantly trying to return to one preferred position, use whichever part of your toolkit is strongest at your current distance.

Don't Turn the Build Into a Pure Mage

It can be tempting to keep adding increasingly powerful ranged Sorceries until your melee weapon barely gets used.

At that point, you're effectively playing a traditional Mage rather than a Spellblade.

The build is at its most distinctive when your weapon, melee Sorceries, ranged Sorceries, and weapon Skill all have a purpose.

A Spellblade should never feel locked into melee or ranged combat. Create openings with Sorceries, capitalize on them with your weapon or Carian magic, and constantly adjust your range to stay one step ahead of the enemy.
