Elden Ring Bleed Build - Stats, Weapons, Skills & More

Updated on Aug 22, 2026
Aug 22, 2026

Overview

Bleed builds focus on rapidly building up the Blood Loss status effect before triggering Hemorrhage for a large burst of damage. Because part of this damage is based on the enemy's maximum HP, Bleed can be extremely effective against bosses and other enemies with large health pools.

Fast weapons are naturally good at applying Blood Loss, but attack speed isn't the only thing that matters. Weapons with high Blood Loss buildup, Arcane scaling, multi-hit attacks, and powerful Bleed-focused Skills can all form the foundation of an effective build.

Bleed builds can also be built in several different ways. Dexterity/Arcane builds combine fast weapons with strong physical damage, while Arcane-focused builds can use Blood or Occult affinities to increase their damage and status buildup.

The biggest weakness is that not every enemy can Bleed. A strong Bleed build should therefore maintain good raw damage rather than relying entirely on Hemorrhage to kill enemies.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent damage against enemies vulnerable to Blood Loss.
  • Percentage-based Hemorrhage damage is particularly effective against high-HP bosses.
  • Large selection of viable weapons and weapon classes.
  • Excellent synergy with fast and multi-hit attacks.
  • Arcane builds can combine strong weapon damage with high status buildup.
  • Powerful options are available from the beginning of the game through Shadow of the Erdtree.

Cons

  • Some enemies and bosses are completely immune to Blood Loss.
  • Maintaining pressure can encourage overly aggressive play when trying to trigger Hemorrhage.
  • Hybrid Bleed builds can require investment into Dexterity, Strength, and Arcane, depending on the weapon.
  • Blood affinity can sacrifice some raw weapon damage in exchange for higher Blood Loss buildup.
  • The effectiveness of Arcane varies significantly depending on the weapon and affinity being used.

How Blood Loss and Arcane Work

Blood Loss is a status effect that builds up as you repeatedly hit an enemy with a weapon or attack that causes Bleed. Once the enemy's hidden Blood Loss meter is filled, Hemorrhage triggers and immediately deals a large burst of damage.

After Hemorrhage occurs, the meter resets and can be built up again. If you stop applying Blood Loss for long enough, the accumulated buildup gradually decreases.

Arcane Does Not Always Increase Bleed

One of the most important things to understand is that increasing Arcane does not automatically increase the Blood Loss buildup of every Bleed weapon.

Arcane increases status buildup when the weapon has Arcane scaling that applies to its Blood Loss buildup. A weapon with innate Bleed but no Arcane scaling won't suddenly gain additional Bleed buildup simply because you level Arcane.

This makes your weapon and affinity extremely important when deciding how much Arcane your build should use.

Blood vs Occult Affinity

Blood affinity adds Blood Loss buildup and Arcane scaling to compatible weapons. This makes it an excellent way to turn weapons without innate Bleed into dedicated Blood Loss weapons or push toward higher buildup on appropriate setups. The trade-off is reduced base Attack Power and changes to the weapon's other scaling.

Occult affinity takes a different approach. It adds strong Arcane scaling to the weapon's Physical damage and lets Arcane scale existing innate Blood Loss or Poison buildup.

Because of this, Occult is particularly effective on weapons that already have innate Bleed, allowing an Arcane-focused character to combine strong Physical damage with scalable Blood Loss buildup.

Choosing between Blood and Occult ultimately depends on the weapon and your attributes rather than one affinity always being better than the other.

Starting Class, Attribute Leveling and Distribution

Bleed builds can use several different attribute distributions depending on the weapon and affinity you choose. A Dexterity/Arcane build works well with weapons that benefit significantly from both attributes, while an Arcane-focused build is particularly effective with Occult weapons and other armaments that strongly benefit from Arcane.

The exact Strength and Dexterity requirements of your chosen weapon should always take priority over following these tables exactly.

Dexterity / Arcane Bleed Build

Recommended Starting Class: Samurai

This progression is designed for Bleed weapons that benefit from both Dexterity and Arcane. It provides strong physical damage alongside good Blood Loss buildup without sacrificing the survivability needed for aggressive melee combat.

Early in the game, prioritize Vigor and Dexterity while beginning to invest in Arcane once you have a weapon that actually benefits from it. The Samurai's Uchigatana provides innate Blood Loss from the beginning, but its standard configuration does not gain additional Bleed buildup simply because you increase Arcane.

As your build develops, weapons with Arcane scaling make Arcane considerably more valuable. By around level 100, a balanced investment into Dexterity and Arcane provides strong weapon damage alongside effective Blood Loss buildup.

At level 150, 50 Dexterity and 50 Arcane provide a strong general foundation for a hybrid Bleed build. These numbers are not universal targets, however, and weapons that favor one attribute significantly more than the other should adjust the distribution accordingly.

Arcane / Occult Bleed Build

Recommended Starting Class: Bandit

This progression focuses much more heavily on Arcane. It is particularly effective when using Occult affinity on weapons with innate Blood Loss, allowing Arcane to contribute to both weapon damage and status buildup.

The Bandit begins with relatively high Arcane and a Great Knife with innate Blood Loss, making it a natural starting point for an Arcane-focused Bleed character.

During the early game, invest enough Strength and Dexterity to meet the requirements of your chosen weapon, then prioritize Vigor and Arcane. Once you gain access to the Black Whetblade, compatible weapons with innate Bleed can use Occult affinity to take much better advantage of your Arcane investment.

By level 100, 55 Arcane gives the build a strong foundation for both damage and status buildup on appropriate weapons. From there, continue toward 60 Vigor while increasing Arcane and adding Endurance as needed.

At level 150, 80 Arcane is a strong endgame target for an Arcane-focused build, particularly when weapon damage also scales heavily from Arcane. However, status buildup and weapon damage scale differently, so reaching 80 Arcane shouldn't be interpreted as meaning Blood Loss buildup continues improving equally with every level.

Choosing Between Dexterity/Arcane and Arcane/Occult

Choose Dexterity/Arcane when your weapon gains meaningful damage from both attributes or has fixed scaling that naturally supports a hybrid setup. This route is particularly useful for several unique Bleed weapons.

Choose Arcane/Occult when Arcane is intended to be your primary offensive attribute. Weapons with innate Blood Loss can work particularly well with Occult affinity because Arcane can contribute to their Physical damage while also scaling their existing status buildup.

Blood affinity is another option when maximizing Blood Loss buildup is more important than raw Physical damage. It adds Arcane scaling and Blood Loss to compatible weapons, though the resulting damage and buildup vary significantly between weapon classes.

Some weapons require a completely different distribution. Bloodfiend's Arm, for example, requires 28 Strength, 11 Dexterity, and 16 Arcane and has particularly strong interaction with Blood affinity, so a build centered around it should invest considerably more into Strength than either general table suggests.

Best Early-Game Weapons for Bleed Builds

Several excellent Bleed weapons can be obtained during the opening areas of Elden Ring. These weapons allow you to start triggering Blood Loss almost immediately and can remain effective long after better options become available.

Reduvia — Best Early Arcane Bleed Weapon

Reduvia — Best Arcane Dagger

Requirements: Strength - 5 / Dexterity - 13 / Arcane - 13

Reduvia is one of the best weapons for starting an Arcane-focused Bleed build. It has innate Blood Loss buildup that scales with Arcane and can be obtained almost immediately after entering Limgrave.

Its Unique Skill, Reduvia Blood Blade, launches blood projectiles that inflict significant Blood Loss from range. At close range, both the dagger and projectile can connect simultaneously, dramatically increasing both damage and Blood Loss buildup.

Its short melee range is the main drawback, but the Skill largely compensates for this and makes Reduvia an excellent weapon throughout the early and mid game.

Location: Dropped by Bloody Finger Nerijus near Murkwater Cave in Limgrave.

Uchigatana — Best Versatile Early Bleed Weapon

Uchigatana — Best Versatile Early Bleed Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 11 / Dexterity - 15

The Uchigatana combines innate Blood Loss with an excellent Katana moveset and full access to customizable Ashes of War and affinities.

Its flexibility is its greatest strength. A Dexterity-focused character can initially use Keen affinity, while an Arcane build can later transition toward Blood or Occult depending on whether additional Blood Loss buildup or stronger raw damage is the priority.

Unlike unique Bleed weapons, the Uchigatana can therefore evolve alongside your build rather than locking you into one Skill or stat distribution.

Location: Found inside the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave. Samurai characters also begin the game with one.

Bloodhound's Fang — Best Early Raw Damage + Bleed

Bloodhound's Fang — Best Early Raw Damage + Bleed

Requirements: Strength - 18 / Dexterity - 17

Bloodhound's Fang isn't a dedicated Arcane weapon, but its combination of excellent Physical damage and innate Blood Loss makes it an extremely strong early option.

Its Unique Skill, Bloodhound's Finesse, provides both damage and evasive movement before allowing a powerful follow-up attack. Unlike most Somber weapons, Bloodhound's Fang can also be buffed with weapon buffs and Greases.

Arcane doesn't increase its innate Blood Loss because the weapon has no Arcane scaling, so this is better suited to a Dexterity-focused Bleed setup than an Arcane build.

Location: Dropped by Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

Hookclaws — Best Early Multi-Hit Bleed Weapon

Hookclaws — Best Early Multi-Hit Bleed Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 8 / Dexterity - 14

Hookclaws are an excellent introduction to the aggressive side of Bleed builds. They attack rapidly, have innate Blood Loss buildup, and automatically become paired when two-handed.

Their fast multi-hit attacks make them excellent at repeatedly applying status buildup, while customizable affinities and Ashes of War allow them to transition into more specialized Bleed setups later.

Their main weakness is extremely short range, requiring you to stay close to enemies and bosses.

Location: Found inside Stormveil Castle.

Morning Star — Best Early Strength Bleed Option

Morning Star — Best Early Strength Bleed Option

Requirements: Strength - 12 / Dexterity - 8

The Morning Star provides a completely different approach to Bleed. Instead of relying on extremely fast attacks, it combines innate Blood Loss with Strike damage and strong stance pressure.

It can also change affinity and Ash of War, making it useful for builds that want access to Bleed without committing to Katanas, Daggers, or Claws.

This makes it particularly useful against armored enemies that may be resistant to the Slash damage commonly found on other Bleed weapons.

Location: Found inside a carriage in the Weeping Peninsula.

Best Weapons to Build Around

Bloodfiend's Arm — Best Heavy Bleed Weapon

Bloodfiend's Arm

Requirements: Strength - 28 / Dexterity - 11 / Arcane - 16

Bloodfiend's Arm is one of the most unusual and powerful Bleed weapons introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree. Despite being a Colossal Weapon, it can generate extremely high Blood Loss buildup when given the Blood affinity. Bloodfiend's Arm also receives unusually strong status scaling compared with most Blood-infused weapons.

Its Heavy Attacks have an additional blood-splash effect, giving the weapon a unique method of applying Blood Loss while simultaneously dealing the high damage and stance damage expected from a Colossal Weapon.

Unlike traditional fast Bleed setups, Bloodfiend's Arm is built around fewer, much heavier attacks. It requires considerably more Strength than our general Arcane progression, so builds centered around it should adjust their attributes accordingly.

Location: Dropped by a Bloodfiend in Prospect Town in Gravesite Plain.

Eleonora's Poleblade — Best Multi-Hit Bleed Weapon

Eleonora's Poleblade — Best Multi-Hit Bleed Weapon

Requirements: Strength - 12 / Dexterity - 21 / Arcane - 19

Eleonora's Poleblade is an excellent DEX/ARC weapon that combines Physical and Fire damage with Blood Loss buildup.

Its Unique Skill, Bloodblade Dance, performs a rapid sequence of attacks before allowing you to disengage, making it excellent at simultaneously dealing damage and building Blood Loss.

Its unique Heavy Attacks also hit multiple times, while Arcane increases its Physical and Fire damage as well as its Blood Loss buildup.

This makes it one of the most complete weapons for the Dexterity/Arcane progression.

Location: Dropped by Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, at the Second Church of Marika.

Rivers of Blood — Best Bleed Katana Skill

Rivers of Blood — Best Bleed Katana Skill

Requirements: Strength - 12 / Dexterity - 18 / Arcane - 20

Rivers of Blood remains a strong DEX/ARC Katana despite no longer having the overwhelming reputation it had earlier in Elden Ring's life.

Its Unique Skill, Corpse Piler, unleashes a sequence of blood-coated slashes with excellent range and rapid Blood Loss buildup. The weapon also combines Physical and Fire damage with innate Bleed.

It isn't simply a direct upgrade over weapons such as the Uchigatana or Nagakiba, since those weapons offer customizable affinities and Ashes of War. Rivers of Blood instead excels as a complete package built around Corpse Piler.

Location: Dropped by Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Repose in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Nagakiba — Best Customizable Bleed Katana

Nagakiba

Requirements: Strength - 18 / Dexterity - 22

The Nagakiba combines innate Blood Loss with exceptional range and one of the most versatile movesets available to a Katana. Its base weapon has 45 Blood Loss buildup and can be customized with different affinities and Ashes of War.

This makes it excellent for both DEX/ARC and primarily Arcane builds. Blood affinity can prioritize Blood Loss buildup, while Occult allows an Arcane-focused character to retain its innate Bleed while improving raw Physical damage.

Its flexibility makes Nagakiba one of the safest weapons around which to build an entire Bleed character.

Location: Obtained through Bloody Finger Hunter Yura's questline, or from his dropped Nagakiba depending on quest progression.

Scavenger's Curved Sword — Best Occult Curved Sword

Scavenger's Curved Sword

Requirements: Strength - 9 / Dexterity - 14

Scavenger's Curved Sword is particularly valuable because it combines the fast Curved Sword moveset with innate Blood Loss while remaining fully infusible.

This makes Occult affinity particularly attractive on an Arcane-focused build, allowing Arcane to improve its Physical damage while also scaling the weapon's existing Blood Loss.

Powerstanced Curved Swords have extremely strong multi-hit attacks, making them particularly effective at applying status effects when built correctly.

Location: Found on Mt. Gelmir near the Grafted Scion.

Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear — Best Bleed AoE Weapon

Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear

Requirements: Strength - 24 / Dexterity - 14 / Arcane - 27

Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear offers something most Bleed weapons don't: enormous area-of-effect pressure.

Its Unique Skill, Bloodboon Ritual, repeatedly damages enemies across a large area while inflicting Blood Loss before buffing the weapon with Bloodflame. Its Great Spear moveset also provides excellent reach outside of the Skill.

The high Arcane requirement fits naturally into an Arcane-focused build, although its Strength requirement requires some additional investment.

Location: Obtained by trading the Remembrance of the Blood Lord after defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood.

Reduvia — Best Arcane Dagger

Reduvia — Best Arcane Dagger

Requirements: Strength - 5 / Dexterity - 13 / Arcane - 13

Reduvia deserves to appear again because, unlike many early-game weapons, it remains highly effective on a finished Arcane build.

Its Blood Loss buildup scales with Arcane, and Reduvia Blood Blade provides safe ranged Bleed pressure. When used at close range, the physical dagger slash and projectile can both hit, resulting in extremely high buildup from a fast weapon.

Its combination of low weight, speed, ranged pressure, and Arcane scaling makes it one of the strongest dedicated Bleed sidearms in the game.

Bloody Helice — Best Defensive Bleed Weapon

Bloody Helice

Requirements: Strength - 16 / Dexterity - 19 / Arcane - 17

Bloody Helice is an excellent option for players who prefer a more deliberate Bleed playstyle.

Its Heavy Thrusting Sword moveset provides excellent range and Pierce damage, while Dynast's Finesse performs an evasive retreat that can transition into powerful counterattacks.

Rather than overwhelming enemies with constant multi-hit attacks, Bloody Helice rewards timing, spacing, and counterattacking while still benefiting strongly from Arcane.

Location: Found in the Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau.

Great Katana — Best DLC Customizable Bleed Weapon

Great Katana

Requirements: Strength - 14 / Dexterity - 18

The Great Katana combines significantly greater reach and damage per hit than standard Katanas with innate Blood Loss buildup.

Because it remains fully infusible, it can support Blood or Occult affinity depending on whether your build prioritizes status buildup or Arcane-based Physical damage.

Its slower attacks mean it won't build Bleed as rapidly as Claws or Twinblades, but its superior range, strong individual hits, and flexible Ash of War selection make it an excellent DLC option.

Location: Found in Gravesite Plain near the Ghostflame Dragon.

Honorable Mentions

  • Godskin Peeler — An excellent Twinblade that becomes a powerful Bleed weapon with Blood affinity. Its fast two-handed and jumping attacks make it particularly good at status buildup.
  • Bandit's Curved Sword — Has no innate Bleed, but Blood affinity turns it into an excellent powerstanced Bleed weapon with high damage and strong multi-hit attacks.
  • Morgott's Cursed Sword — A strong DEX/ARC Curved Greatsword with innate Blood Loss and the aggressive Cursed-Blood Slice Skill.
  • Raptor Talons — Fast Claws with innate Bleed and a unique Heavy Attack, making them excellent for aggressive status-focused builds.
  • Star Fist — Combines innate Blood Loss with exceptionally fast charged Heavy Attacks and tremendous stance damage. It is stronger as an overall PvE weapon than its placement here might suggest, but Bleed isn't its sole defining feature.
  • Bloodhound's Fang — Remains one of the strongest general PvE weapons and has innate Blood Loss, but because Arcane cannot scale its Bleed buildup, it fits a dedicated Bleed/Arcane guide less naturally than the main recommendations.

Ashes of War

Bleed builds benefit from Ashes of War that either directly apply Blood Loss, create rapid multi-hit attacks, or provide strong attacks that can be combined with Blood or Occult affinity.

The best choice depends heavily on your weapon. Some Ashes focus entirely on triggering Hemorrhage as quickly as possible, while others provide better overall damage or sustain.

Seppuku — Best for Maximizing Blood Loss

Seppuku plunges the weapon into the user, dealing a small amount of self-damage before coating it in blood. The buff increases the weapon's Blood Loss buildup and also increases its Physical damage for its duration.

It is particularly powerful on fast weapons that can rapidly apply status buildup, including Katanas, Twinblades, and Curved Swords.

The self-inflicted Blood Loss buildup can also activate effects such as Lord of Blood's Exultation and White Mask, allowing Seppuku to function as both a weapon buff and a way to trigger your Bleed-related damage bonuses before attacking.

Location: Dropped by an invisible Teardrop Scarab near the Freezing Lake in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Blood Tax — Best for Sustain

Blood Tax performs a rapid series of thrusting attacks that inflict Blood Loss while restoring HP when the attacks connect.

Its combination of multi-hit status buildup and healing makes it an excellent choice for aggressive Bleed builds, especially during longer encounters where the additional sustain can reduce your reliance on Crimson Flasks.

Blood Tax works particularly well on weapons with good reach, allowing more of the attack sequence to connect safely.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in the blood-filled area of Mohgwyn Palace.

Bloody Slash — Best Early-Game Bleed Ash of War

Bloody Slash sacrifices a small amount of HP to perform a powerful blood slash with excellent damage and range.

It is one of the earliest Bleed-focused Ashes of War available and also provides access to Blood affinity, making it extremely useful when starting a dedicated Bleed build.

Although later options provide better status application or utility, Bloody Slash remains a powerful early-game Skill that can deal substantial damage without requiring an elaborate setup.

Location: Dropped by the Godrick Knight in Fort Haight.

Double Slash — Best for Rapid Multi-Hit Pressure

Double Slash performs two fast slashes and can be extended with additional inputs into a longer attack sequence.

The Skill doesn't inherently cause Blood Loss, but when used on a weapon with strong Bleed buildup, its rapid sequence of hits can apply status quickly while dealing excellent weapon damage.

This makes it particularly effective on Katanas and other fast Bleed weapons. It also provides a customizable alternative to unique multi-hit Skills such as Corpse Piler.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

Blood Blade — Best Ranged Bleed Option

Blood Blade consumes a small amount of HP to launch a blood projectile from the weapon.

It provides melee Bleed builds with a useful ranged attack, allowing you to continue applying pressure when moving directly into melee range would be unsafe.

The projectile itself causes Blood Loss buildup, while using the Skill at close range can allow both the weapon and projectile to connect for additional damage and buildup.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in the swamp northwest of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill in Altus Plateau.

Bloodhound's Step — Best Defensive Option

Bloodhound's Step doesn't directly increase Blood Loss, but provides an extremely fast evasive movement that can replace your normal dodge in dangerous situations.

Bleed builds often need to remain close to enemies to maintain status pressure, making additional mobility particularly valuable. Bloodhound's Step allows you to quickly reposition before returning to aggressive multi-hit attacks.

It works especially well on short-range weapons such as Claws and Curved Swords, where staying close to the enemy is essential.

Location: Dropped by the Night's Cavalry near Lenne's Rise in Dragonbarrow.

Cragblade — Best for Raw Damage and Stance Pressure

Cragblade coats the weapon in rock, increasing Physical damage and stance damage for its duration.

It doesn't directly increase Bleed buildup, but that is precisely why it can be useful. Against enemies resistant or immune to Blood Loss, improving your weapon's raw damage and stance-breaking potential gives your Bleed build another way to remain effective.

It is particularly useful on heavier Blood or Occult weapons that already have substantial status buildup without needing a Bleed-specific Skill.

Location: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab near the Impassable Greatbridge in Caelid.

The Poison Flower Blooms Twice — Best Bleed/Poison Hybrid Option

The Poison Flower Blooms Twice is a DLC Ash of War that performs an acrobatic Scarlet Rot-inflicting attack. More importantly, hitting an enemy already affected by Poison or Scarlet Rot can immediately consume the status to deal a large burst of damage.

This isn't a traditional Bleed Skill, but it creates an excellent option for Arcane status builds that combine Bleed with Poison. Your fast attacks can build multiple status effects while the Skill provides another source of burst damage when Poison is active.

It is therefore more specialized than the other recommendations, but particularly useful for players who want to take advantage of Arcane beyond Blood Loss alone.

Location: Obtained after defeating a Pest enemy in Rauh Base in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Choosing an Affinity

Your Ash of War doesn't necessarily determine how your weapon should scale. When compatible with the selected Skill and Whetblades you have obtained, you can choose an affinity that better matches your build.

Blood affinity is generally the better option when maximizing Blood Loss buildup is your priority. It adds Arcane scaling and additional Blood Loss buildup, although this usually comes at the cost of some raw weapon damage.

Occult affinity is particularly effective on weapons that already have innate Blood Loss. It provides strong Arcane-based Physical scaling while allowing the weapon's existing Bleed buildup to benefit from Arcane.

This means an Occult Nagakiba with a strong general-purpose Ash of War can be just as legitimate a Bleed setup as a weapon using a specifically blood-themed Skill.

The best Bleed builds balance Blood Loss buildup, raw damage, and a useful weapon Skill rather than maximizing the Bleed number at the expense of everything else.

Best Armor for Bleed Builds

Bleed builds generally favor aggressive playstyles, so armor that increases damage during successive attacks or after Blood Loss occurs can be particularly valuable. However, you should still maintain enough defense to survive while fighting at close range.

As with other builds, Medium Equip Load should generally be your target. You also don't need to wear a complete matching armor set, making it possible to combine offensive pieces such as the White Mask with heavier armor for additional Damage Negation and Poise.

White Mask — Best Overall Bleed Armor Piece

White Mask

The White Mask is the most important offensive armor piece for a dedicated Bleed build. When Blood Loss occurs nearby, it increases your attack power by 10% for 20 seconds.

This effect can activate when either an enemy or the player suffers Blood Loss, making it extremely easy to maintain during fights where you regularly trigger Hemorrhage.

The effect also stacks with the Lord of Blood's Exultation, allowing dedicated Bleed builds to gain a substantial damage increase immediately after triggering Blood Loss.

Because the bonus only requires the helmet, your other three armor slots remain completely free for additional defenses, Poise, or other offensive effects.

Location: Dropped by one of the Nameless White Mask invaders in Mohgwyn Palace. These invasions become unavailable after defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, so obtain the White Mask before killing him.

Rakshasa Set — Best General Offensive Option

Rakshasa Set — Best General Offensive Option

Each piece of the Rakshasa Set increases all damage dealt by 2%, allowing the complete set to provide an 8% damage increase.

This makes it an excellent offensive option for Bleed builds because the bonus isn't dependent on a particular weapon class or attack type. Fast weapons, charged attacks, weapon Skills, and your regular attacks can all benefit.

For most dedicated Bleed setups, the White Mask should still occupy the head slot. The remaining Rakshasa pieces can then be used to gain additional offensive bonuses without sacrificing the White Mask's Blood Loss synergy.

Location: Dropped by Rakshasa in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Raptor's Black Feathers — Best for Jump Attack Builds

Raptor's Black Feathers

Raptor's Black Feathers increases Jump Attack damage by 10%, making it particularly powerful for Bleed setups centered around powerstanced Curved Swords or Twinblades.

These weapon classes can perform multi-hit jumping attacks that simultaneously deal strong damage and rapidly build Blood Loss.

Combining Raptor's Black Feathers with the Claw Talisman creates an excellent setup for players who frequently use jumping attacks to initiate or punish enemy openings.

Location: Found inside Sage's Cave in Altus Plateau.

Gravebird's Blackquill Armor — Best DLC Jump Attack Alternative

Gravebird's Blackquill Armor

Gravebird's Blackquill Armor also increases Jump Attack damage by 10%, providing a DLC alternative to Raptor's Black Feathers.

It works particularly well with the same Curved Sword and Twinblade setups, allowing their powerful multi-hit jumping attacks to deal additional damage while building Blood Loss.

Only the chest piece is required for the bonus, so it can be combined with the White Mask and heavier gauntlets or greaves.

Location: Found in Rauh Base in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Solitude Set — Best Defensive Option

Solitude Set — Best Defensive Option

The Solitude Set provides excellent Damage Negation and high Poise, making it one of the strongest defensive choices for aggressive melee builds.

It doesn't directly improve Blood Loss or your damage, but Bleed weapons often require you to remain close to enemies and maintain pressure. Additional defense and Poise can therefore be extremely valuable when learning difficult encounters.

Because the complete set is very heavy, use individual pieces as necessary rather than sacrificing Medium Equip Load simply to wear the entire set.

Location: Dropped by the Blackgaol Knight in the Western Nameless Mausoleum in Gravesite Plain.

High-Poise Mixed Armor — Best General Setup

For most Bleed builds, mixing armor pieces is better than committing to a complete set.

The White Mask can provide your primary offensive bonus while the chest, gauntlet, and leg slots are used to gain as much Damage Negation and Poise as your Equip Load allows.

This is particularly useful with extremely short-range weapons such as Claws and Daggers, where you'll frequently be fighting directly beside the enemy.

A good general rule is to prioritize:

White Mask → Medium Equip Load → sufficient defenses and Poise → additional offensive armor bonuses.

This gives you the important Bleed-specific damage bonus without turning the build into a glass cannon.

Choosing Your Armor

Your ideal armor depends heavily on the type of Bleed build you're playing.

  • General Bleed: White Mask + defensive armor
  • Maximum Damage: White Mask + Rakshasa pieces
  • Jump Attack Bleed: White Mask + Raptor's Black Feathers or Gravebird's Blackquill Armor
  • Defensive Bleed: White Mask + heavier high-Poise pieces

Armor should support your weapon rather than determine it. A powerstanced Curved Sword build benefits considerably more from Jump Attack bonuses than a Reduvia build, while a close-range Bloodfiend's Arm or Claw build may value additional Poise and defenses more highly.

Best Talismans for Bleed Builds

Bleed builds can benefit from Talismans that reward Blood Loss, successive attacks, powerful weapon Skills, or specific attack types. The best combination depends heavily on your weapon, so a fast multi-hit setup will generally use different Talismans than a Bloodfiend's Arm or Reduvia build.

Lord of Blood's Exultation — Best Overall Bleed Talisman

Lord of Blood's Exultation — Best Overall Bleed Talisman

The Lord of Blood's Exultation increases your attack power by 20% for 20 seconds whenever Blood Loss occurs nearby.

This is one of the most important Talismans for a dedicated Bleed build because Hemorrhage naturally activates it during combat. The effect can also trigger when the player suffers Blood Loss, allowing effects such as Seppuku to activate the bonus before attacking.

It also stacks with the White Mask, providing a substantial attack boost after Blood Loss occurs.

Location: Dropped by Esgar, Priest of Blood, in the Leyndell Catacombs.

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia — Best for Successive Attacks

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia

The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia increases attack power as you land successive attacks, making it an excellent choice for fast Bleed weapons.

Twinblades, Curved Swords, Claws, and other rapid multi-hit weapons can activate the higher tiers of the effect quickly while simultaneously building Blood Loss.

The bonus rewards the same aggressive playstyle that many Bleed builds already use, making it one of the strongest options for weapons such as Eleonora's Poleblade.

Location: Obtained near the end of Millicent's questline by assisting her.

Millicent's Prosthesis — Best Dexterity/Multi-Hit Option

Millicent's Prosthesis

Millicent's Prosthesis increases Dexterity by 5 while also increasing attack power with successive attacks.

This makes it particularly valuable for DEX/ARC Bleed builds using fast weapons. The successive-attack effect can also stack with the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, allowing specialized multi-hit builds to gain significant damage during longer attack sequences.

However, the two Talismans are obtained from different outcomes of Millicent's questline, so you normally cannot obtain both during a single playthrough without carrying one over through New Game Plus.

Location: Obtained through Millicent's questline.

Shard of Alexander — Best for Weapon Skills

Shard of Alexander — Best for Weapon Skills

The Shard of Alexander increases weapon Skill damage by 15%.

This is particularly powerful with Bleed weapons that rely heavily on their Unique Skill, including Rivers of Blood, Eleonora's Poleblade, Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear, Reduvia, and Bloody Helice.

It doesn't directly increase Blood Loss buildup, but increasing the damage of an attack you're already using to inflict Bleed makes it an excellent overall damage option.

Location: Obtained at the end of Iron Fist Alexander's questline in Crumbling Farum Azula.

Claw Talisman — Best for Jump Attack Bleed Builds

Claw Talisman — Best for Jump Attack Bleed Builds

The Claw Talisman increases Jump Attack damage by 15%.

This is particularly effective with powerstanced Curved Swords and Twinblades, whose jumping attacks can hit multiple times while rapidly applying Blood Loss.

Combining the Claw Talisman with Raptor's Black Feathers or Gravebird's Blackquill Armor further increases Jump Attack damage, making it an excellent setup for aggressive Bleed builds.

Location: Found in Stormveil Castle.

Two-Handed Sword Talisman — Best for Two-Handed Bleed Weapons

Two-Handed Sword Talisman — Best for Two-Handed Bleed Weapons

The Two-Handed Sword Talisman increases the damage of attacks performed while holding a weapon with two hands by 15%.

Unlike successive-attack Talismans, this is better suited to larger Bleed weapons that rely on individual powerful attacks rather than rapid attack chains.

Weapons such as the Bloodfiend's Arm or Great Katana can benefit significantly from it when used two-handed.

The bonus affects normal weapon attacks rather than weapon Skills, so Skill-heavy setups should generally prioritize Shard of Alexander instead.

Location: Found in Temple Town Ruins in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Spear Talisman — Best for Pierce Bleed Weapons

Spear Talisman

The Spear Talisman increases Pierce counterattack damage by 15%.

This makes it an excellent specialized option for Bleed weapons that deal Pierce damage, particularly Bloody Helice and other thrusting weapons.

Counter damage occurs when Pierce damage hits an enemy during certain parts of their attack animation, rewarding aggressive players who attack directly into enemy openings.

Location: Found in Lakeside Crystal Cave in Liurnia.

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman — Best Defensive Option

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman

The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman provides 20% Physical Damage Negation in PvE, making it one of the strongest defensive Talismans available.

Bleed builds frequently need to fight at close range and maintain pressure to trigger Hemorrhage. The additional Physical protection can therefore be extremely valuable, especially against aggressive bosses where maximizing damage isn't always the best choice.

It is particularly useful with short-range weapons such as Claws and Daggers or for players learning a difficult encounter.

Location: Found in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.

Choosing Your Talismans

There isn't one universal four-Talisman setup for every Bleed build.

For a general Bleed setup, Lord of Blood's Exultation is usually the easiest recommendation because triggering Blood Loss naturally activates its bonus.

From there, choose Talismans based on how your weapon deals damage:

  • Fast multi-hit weapons: Rotten Winged Sword Insignia / Millicent's Prosthesis
  • Weapon Skill builds: Shard of Alexander.
  • Jump Attack builds: Claw Talisman.
  • Two-handed heavy weapons: Two-Handed Sword Talisman
  • Pierce weapons: Spear Talisman
  • Additional survivability: Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman

The goal is to improve the attacks your build already uses rather than equipping every Talisman associated with Blood Loss.

Bleed Playstyle Tips

Bleed builds reward aggressive play, but triggering Hemorrhage as quickly as possible shouldn't come at the expense of good fundamentals. The strongest Bleed builds combine consistent weapon damage with status pressure, allowing them to remain effective even when Blood Loss isn't immediately available.

Maintain Pressure Without Getting Greedy

Blood Loss buildup gradually decreases when you stop applying it, so maintaining pressure can help you trigger Hemorrhage more consistently.

However, don't force an extra attack simply because you think the next hit will proc Bleed. Trading into a boss combo or getting caught during a long multi-hit animation can easily cost more HP than the Hemorrhage proc is worth.

Use safe openings to maintain pressure and treat Blood Loss as a reward for consistent aggression rather than something you need to force.

Don't Rely Entirely on Blood Loss

Not every enemy in Elden Ring can Bleed, and some enemies have significantly higher resistance than others.

Your weapon should therefore still deal strong regular damage without Hemorrhage. This is one reason Occult affinity can be particularly valuable on weapons with innate Bleed, as it can provide excellent Arcane-based Physical damage alongside Blood Loss buildup.

Against Bleed-immune enemies, focus on raw damage, stance breaking, weapon Skills, or another status effect rather than repeatedly trying to trigger something that cannot occur.

Understand Blood vs Occult

Choosing the correct affinity is one of the most important decisions for an Arcane Bleed build.

Blood affinity generally provides higher Blood Loss buildup and can add Bleed to weapons that don't naturally have it. This is ideal when triggering Hemorrhage as quickly as possible is the priority.

Occult affinity is particularly effective on weapons that already have innate Bleed. It provides stronger Arcane-based Physical scaling while allowing Arcane to improve the weapon's existing Blood Loss buildup.

Don't automatically choose Blood simply because you're playing a Bleed build. Depending on your weapon and attributes, Occult can provide a better balance between raw damage and status buildup.

Arcane Doesn't Improve Every Bleed Weapon

Increasing Arcane only improves a weapon's Blood Loss buildup when that buildup scales with Arcane.

Weapons such as Bloodhound's Fang have innate Bleed, but no Arcane scaling, meaning increasing Arcane won't improve their Blood Loss buildup.

Blood and Occult affinities can add Arcane scaling to compatible weapons, while unique Arcane weapons such as Reduvia and Eleonora's Poleblade already have scaling that allows Arcane to contribute to their status buildup.

Always check how your weapon actually scales before investing heavily into Arcane.

Use Multi-Hit Attacks Intelligently

Fast weapons, Twinblades, Curved Swords, and Claws are excellent at building Blood Loss because they can land several attacks in a short period.

However, multi-hit attacks aren't automatically the best option for every opening. Longer attack chains can leave you vulnerable against aggressive enemies, and individual hits within multi-hit attacks may apply different amounts of status buildup.

Use longer sequences when the enemy is recovering, staggered, or otherwise unable to retaliate, and use shorter attacks when the opening is limited.

Take Advantage of Hemorrhage Damage Buffs

The White Mask and Lord of Blood's Exultation both increase your damage after Blood Loss occurs nearby.

Because both effects can be active simultaneously, triggering Hemorrhage doesn't just deal immediate burst damage; it can also make your follow-up attacks significantly stronger.

This creates a natural damage cycle:

Build Blood Loss → Trigger Hemorrhage → Gain damage buffs → Use the buff window aggressively → Repeat.

Effects such as Seppuku can also trigger these bonuses through Blood Loss on your own character, allowing certain builds to activate them before engaging an enemy.

Build Around Your Weapon's Strengths

Not every Bleed weapon should be played the same way.

Reduvia can pressure enemies from range with Reduvia Blood Blade. Bloody Helice rewards spacing and counterattacks. Eleonora's Poleblade favors aggressive multi-hit sequences, while Bloodfiend's Arm uses powerful Heavy Attacks and stance pressure alongside its Blood Loss.

Choose your Talismans, Ash of War, armor, and attributes around how your weapon actually deals damage rather than trying to force every Bleed build into the same playstyle.

Use Other Status Effects When Appropriate

Arcane builds aren't limited to Blood Loss. Poison can provide sustained damage, while Scarlet Rot can be extremely effective against enemies vulnerable to it.

Weapons or setups capable of applying multiple status effects can continue pressuring enemies even when their Blood Loss resistance is relatively high.

This also makes Arcane builds more flexible against encounters where a pure Bleed strategy isn't ideal.

Watch Your Stamina

Fast attacks can make it tempting to empty your entire Stamina bar while trying to trigger Hemorrhage.

Always leave enough Stamina to dodge or reposition after an attack sequence. This becomes particularly important with powerstanced weapons and long multi-hit Skills, which can consume large amounts of Stamina very quickly.

A Bleed proc isn't worth much if you're immediately unable to avoid the boss's counterattack.

Adjust Your Build Against Bleed-Immune Enemies

You don't need to respec your entire character when Blood Loss doesn't work.

Arcane-focused characters can switch to an Occult weapon with strong raw Physical damage, while hybrid builds can rely more heavily on their Dexterity or Strength scaling. Different Ashes of War and status effects can provide additional alternatives.

Bleed should be one of your build's greatest strengths, not its only way of dealing damage.

Choose the Right Attack for the Opening

The fastest possible Blood Loss buildup only matters when your attacks actually connect safely.

A large opening might allow an entire multi-hit Skill or jumping attack sequence, while a short opening may only provide enough time for a single Light Attack.

Learning how much you can safely fit into each opening is especially important for Bleed builds because the desire to trigger one more Hemorrhage can easily lead to unnecessary mistakes.

Bleed builds reward controlled aggression. Maintain enough pressure to trigger Hemorrhage consistently, but don't sacrifice positioning, stamina, and survivability simply to reach the next proc.
