Beyond their overall rankings, each champion has unique strengths and weaknesses based on their current role as a Point or Assist champ. While some champs, like Ekko, excel in both roles, others specialize in one or the other.
Generally speaking, you can think of the Assist as the enabler, and the Point champ as the initiator. Understanding how each champ fits into these roles will help you form and optimize your team and champ synergies.
Additionally, Sidekick and Juggernaut users will find these two separate rankings particularly useful since they are unable to Tag out.
As with all of our tier lists, we recommend first starting with whatever champions and teams you personally gravitate towards and feel best suit your individual playstyle and preferences. Don't let a low placing pull you away from playing the champs you enjoy most!

S Tier Commentary (Top Tier)
Yasuo
Yasuo takes the #1 spot for our Point champ rankings! There generally isn't a team where Yasuo would perform poorly on Point. Quick movement, great pressure on block, the ability to zone and counter zoning leave Yasuo with minimal weaknesses.
This placement likely comes at no surprise to anyone who has already been playing 2XKO since he's the most popular Point champ in ranked. Without the use of any Super meter, Yasuo puts up the highest damage numbers in the game.
When aided by an Assist, he excels at opening up and breaking through an opponent's defenses with his crossups and high/low mix-ups. Converting successful Assists is also easy for Yasuo, as well as setting up combos that use Assists for extensions or end with Tag Launcher.
Ekko
Ekko has the most un-reactable mix-ups in the whole game. When he can set up with Timewinder, the opponent is in serious trouble. In neutral, he's difficult to predict, can zone you, and get past even the most fortified defenses.
He also has incredible mobility and good normal attacks. Compared to the other top picks here, his solo damage is a bit lower, but he more than makes up for that with how consistently he finds opportunities to land successful hits.
Warwick
Warwick is the most relentless Rushdown champ. Although his game plan may seem simple at first glance, his overheads, demon flip mix-ups, and standing M Attack are all he really needs to dominate a match.
His large body and linear movement can make it a bit difficult to approach, but as long as he has an Assist available, he can overcome this weakness without too much trouble.
Ideally, Warwick stays out as long as possible so he can quickly generate a full bloodlust meter, then use it to steamroll the opponent.
We're waiting to see what balance changes come through with launch of 1.0 and console release, but as of the final Beta patch, his bloodlust ForwardS2 Special has bugged hit stun, which allows him to extend combos much longer than previously possible, and that makes him even deadlier.
Ahri
If you want to take over the skies, Ahri is the top choice. As far as team synergy goes, there isn't a champ she doesn't pair well with. She can utilize virtually every Assist in the game, and can find benefit in every Fuse as well.
Her only real struggle is needing more help to set up her mix-ups than the other S-tier champs. If she can't get an air approach to put the opponent in her lightning-fast aerial left/right and high/low mix-ups, she's going to struggle to get meaningful damage in.
She relies heavily on movement mix-ups, and using Assists to get the opponent blocking. On the other hand, Ahri is easily one of the best champs at converting random hits into full combos.
A Tier Commentary (High Tier)
Vi
Vi's Rushdown playstyle means she wants to be the one on Point so she can play as aggressively as possible.
Compared to the Top Tier champs, Vi is limited by being a grounded character. She doesn't interact a whole lot with the upper half of the screen and tends to have a hard time dealing with opponents that have a strong aerial game.
However, she's so quick at approaching that it is nearly impossible for opponents to successfully play keep away against her.
Caitlyn
The Sheriff of Piltover arrives as 2XKO’s newest champion. Although she has an extremely high skill floor and ceiling, the time and effort required to master her versatile kit are well worth it, as Caitlyn is an exceptionally strong character.
On point, her zoning is excellent for chipping down opponents’ health and baiting mistakes as they attempt to approach. She can also play offensively with her deployables, rolls, rifle pressure, and aerial crossups.
The only drawback to Caitlyn right now is that she is both new and difficult, so players are still optimizing her strategy and combo routes. Expect to see more Caitlyn players placing well in tournaments as the months go by.
Teemo
Ever since his nerfs in December, Teemo's Point presence has fallen off a bit. He's still incredibly strong, but he has more unfavorable Point matchups than the other highly placed champs.
With only average movement, stubby normals, but great projectiles, Teemo's hybrid zoner and trap kit is best utilized when his Assist champ is alive and well.
As a Point champ, Teemo's strategy is essentially setting up his Assist to take over. He's very good at stalling when needing to wait for another Assist, and he can always Double Down Super Tag to give his teammate free pressure.
Braum
Braum may be viewed as one of the weaker champs, but the reality is that he is an excellent Point champ.
First off, he literally has the best Assist enabling ability in the whole game. "Get Behind Me," or ice shield, enables most Assists to be safely used. The only way to counter ice shield + Assist is to predict and use a move that counters the shield.
He can be slow going when it comes to approaching and running down the opponent, but once he has Unbreakable and the corner, his advantage is so massive that the only way out is by getting knocked out.
Jinx
Currently, Jinx is 2XKO's only true zoner. She has good projectiles and deployables that enable her to chip away at the opponent from a safe distance.
Unfortunately for her, every champ has anti-projectile tools in their kit, so it's much harder than you may think for her to pull off effective zoning.
The distance she wants to position is outside the range of many champs' Assist attacks as well. Meaning she either needs to hold onto the Assist, or select from a limited pool of champs with longer ranged Assists.
Additionally, she's slow and has poor mix-ups compared to most other champs. Her zoning makes her feel like a good Point champ, but her inability to mix and break through solid defenses hold her back.
B Tier Commentary (Mid Tier)
Darius
Even though Darius is a big body, his huge and deceptively fast attacks enable him to carry his team as the Point champ.
While he doesn't have the craziest mix-ups, his block strings into Apprehend are extremely difficult to deal with when combined with an Assist. Pretty much all of Darius's inherent weaknesses can be covered with good Assist usage.
Whenever he does find an opening, his damage goes crazy, and he has multiple combo routes to use Assists and end with Tag Launcher.
Illaoi
The secret to instant success with Illaoi is playing her as the Assist, then tagging to her once you've cornered the opponent.
Her big win condition is setting up her S2 Special Super, but she has a difficult time doing this on her own. Her neutral is only ok, and her mixup game is almost non-existent.
It's not all bad, however, as Illaoi is a very strong champ overall. Illaoi players just need to learn how to effectively use Assists to enable her, or learn how use a combination of Quick Tag, Tag Launcher, and Handshake Tag to pull her in at optimal times, and know when to let her teammate take the lead.
Blitzcrank
Blitzcrank has the potential to be a Point champ that strikes fear into his enemies. His strike/throw mix-ups and re-stand combo resets force the opponent into a complete guessing game.
S2 Special Rocket Punch also gives him good counterplay against projectiles if the opponent is trying to zone and chip him down.
Where he does struggle more than any other champ is actually creating the openings for himself to force the opponent to play his game. His hurt box is ridiculously large, and he's painfully slow.
Blitzcrank's best mix-up is his command grab, but it's also super high commitment. If the opponent correctly guesses, he is vulnerable to a massive counterattack.
