WoW Forever Class

Destruction Warlock | <Progress> Hadoogin

Updated on Oct 31, 2026
Oct 31, 2026

Overview

Warlock in general has received a lot of changes and the class keeps on evolving between the patches. Damage curses became Banes, and each warlock can now use Bane of Agony or Bane of Doom or Bane of Havoc for destruction specifically, while also using one utility curse (IE: Curse of the Elements). Dots can also crit now, which was one of the biggest changes for the class.

Destruction warlock has received some changes alongside the other warlock specs we have talents such as Bane of Havoc which if applied to a secondary target, causes 15% of damage you deal to other targets to be dealt onto the bane of havoc target.

Shadow and Flame if fully picked, Conflagrate wont get rid of your immolate and Shadowburn refunds a shard, as well as giving you a nice 10% fire damage buff & 10% shadow damage buff for 20s, Conflagrate gives the shadow buff, Shadowburn gives the fire buff more on this in the gameplay & rotation variant.

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • High burst damage with Conflagrate and Shadowburn.
  • Strong cleave damage through Bane of Havoc.
  • Useful group utility with curses, Healthstones and Soulstones.
  • More leveling downtime than Affliction or Demonology due to high mana use.
  • Limited mobility, making good positioning important.
  • Vulnerable to interrupts while casting key damage spells.

Guide Variants

Level through Destruction for strong burst damage from Shadowburn and Conflagrate, eventually unlocking Incinerate as your main filler. Start with Bane, Cataclysm and Destructive Reach, then work towards Shadow and Flame.

You can take Improved Corruption first for a stronger early start, although this delays your Destruction progression. Finish with supporting Affliction and Demonology talents.

Gameplay & Rotation

Leveling rotation: 1. Curse of the Elements 2. Corruption 3. Bane of Agony 4. Immolate 5. Wand up to lvl 25-30.

Once you reach Shadowburn and Conflagrate you can finish the mobs with it. Keep in mind, the target has to die in 8 sec, otherwise you wont get your soul shard back, and Conflagrate will consume your Immolate, so use it at the end of its duration. With Shadow and Flame however, our shards and immolate dont get consumed any more, so we can aggressively use shadowburn and conflag on cd.

This build is centered around Incinerate and it will be our filler spell once all the dots are applied and Shadowburn and Conflagrate are on cd.

Life Tap when you need mana.

We are using Summon Voidwalker and in dungeons you use Summon Imp

When your pet is about to die, just summon a new one. Health Funnel Is really bad early.

Gear

Getting an early Wand is the most important part of starting a new warlock.

These are all viable options on how to acquire one:
1. Buy Lesser Magic Wand on AH for around 5silver
or
1. Buy Lesser Magic Essence from the enchanting vendor for 8 silver. Limited supply
or
1. Get skinning, gather some leather and craft Handstitched Leather Vest with leatherworking, so you can disenchant them. You can also make Brown Linen Pants with tailoring. You will need to make around 7, since non weapons have lower chance to disenchant into Lesser Magic Essence -which we need to make the wand.

2. Level enchanting to 10 with Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and also make one Runed copper rod. Mote of Magic, Copper rod and Simple wood are from the enchanting vendor.
3. Craft Lesser Magic Wand yourself with 1 simple wood from the vendor and one Lesser Magic Essence

If you don't prefer going enchanting there are still other wands out there that you can obtain:
Riptear's Spare Arm - Rear Guard Patrol Quest Horde only from Tirisfal Glades
Deepblaze - Old Ironforge Incursion Halls of Thanes chain from Earthseer Farsen Alliance Only
Cinder Wand - Arugal's Folly Chain from Dalar Dawnweaver in Silverpine Forest Horde only
Spark of the People's Militia - The People's Militia Chain from Gryan in Westfall Alliance only Branding Rod - Isha Awak chain from the barrens starts from Mahren in ratchet Horde only Flaring Baton - The Escape chain from the barrens starts from Wizzlecrank's Shredder Horde only Cookie's Stirring Rod - Drops from Cookie in The Deadmines Spellcrafter Wand - Retrieval for Mauren quest starts from Collin Mauren in Stonetalon Alliance onlyGravestone Scepter - Blackfathom Villainy quest starts inside Blackfathom Deeps for both factions These are not ranked in any order, there are many wands out there as well from quests & especially boe drops so keep an eye out for them!

The Orb of Soran'ruk - A Warlock only quest, head over to Doan Karhan in the Barrens (49, 57). Both Factions can pick this quest up.
1) Collect 3x Soran'ruk Fragment - Dropped by Twilight's Hammer Acolytes in the Blackfathom Deeps dungeon
2) Collect 1x Large Soran'ruk Fragment - Dropped by Shadowfang Darksouls in Shadowfang keep.
The Orb of Soran'ruk quest rewards you with a choice of Staff of Soran'ruk or Orb of Soran'ruk

Professions

We are expecting Tailoring to have some nice prebis/bis early gear that will be BOP. So we would recommend tailoring.

Second professions is based on your preference and playstyle. If you want to speedrun and minmax, then Engineering will be mandatory due to Goblin Sapper Charge, Thorium Grenade and all other cool gadgets that engineering offers.

You can have First Aid profession along with the other professions since it is a secondary profession, will be very useful to bandage while leveling for less downtime and also for end-game content.

Suggested Races

Looking at purely dps, currently all races are almost equal (less than 0.5% difference) so feel free to choose whichever you like the most or choose based on PvP racial.

Tips & Tricks

Wand is mandatory for early levels. Earlier you get it, the easier it gets.
Don't heal the pet, re-summon a new one. Managing Fear during leveling and utilize Curse of Recklessness on a feared mob if it took a very bad path. Curse of recklessness makes it so the target will ignore fear and horror effects which makes it very useful if a mob is feared and takes a bad path, press any other curse ability to cancel the fear immunity effect.

Additional Tips

Leveling

You can start with Improved Corruption which is one of our best talents now. This will delay your Destruction progression, but its worth it.

We start with Bane 5/5, follow up with Cataclysm and Destructive Reach. Cataclysm is important and will reduce the amount of drinking we need by a lot.

Shadowburn is a very nice burst and finisher, but early on its better to just Wand the mobs down.
Ruin is now 5 pointer and we wont benefit much from it until Conflagrate crit talent.

We only take Agonizing Flames for 10% damage, we aren't using Searing Pain. We also add Conflagrate which combined with Shadowburn can often finish the mob already at 30%

Bane of Havoc Is a new talent which lets us Bane the target, and 15% damage we do to other targets also hits the target effected by bane. Its very situational during leveling, but it will be very nice for raiding, dungeons and we also need it to unlock Incinerate.

Fire and Brimstone makes our Conflagrate crit more.

Shadow and Flame Is where the spec really becomes to shine, since it makes our Shadowburn and Conflagrate no longer consume shards/immolate. This is also where your Summon Voidwalker has no chance at all to hold aggro, so you can opt into using Summon Succubus full time or Summon Imp.

The Incinerate talent will replace our Shadow Bolt as our filler.

5 Man Premade

We start off by going Improved Imp to provide a stronger Fire Shield for the tank, doesn't stack with Retribution Aura / Thorns so can be skipped if your group has either of those.

Then we progress through the Destruction tree and rush for powerful early talents such as Ruin.

Intensity is really important, since you don't want your casts to have pushback.

We also take Agonizing Flames and Bane of Havoc, which can be great in dungeons for cleave.

Shadowburn is required to proc Shadow and Flame at the start of the pull.

Pyroclasm proc chance seems to be bugged, as the stun happens extremely rarely, so we skip it.

At level 30 we get Hellfire which does a lot of damage but also deals that damage back to you, keep in mind when your close to the pack you can overaggro much easier because you wont have an extra 30% ranged threat. If you are planning on using a lot of it its also beneficial to take Molten Skin you also have Rain of Fire if you wish to aoe at a safe distance.

Shadow and Flame for nice fire damage boost and not to consume Immolate / Shard refund from Shadowburn.

Finish up with Incinerate for boss and other single target fights.

Since we already have Improved Imp, we just continue in through the rest of demonology tree.

Unholy Power, Demonic Energies, Fel Vitality, Master Summoner and then we can synchronize everything together with Demonic Brand.

This would also be a really nice early prebis farm build, since you are usually always pulling packs of 3-5 mobs.
