Enchanting Guide - New Recipes and Changes

Professions
By Crix
Updated on Oct 30, 2026
Oct 30, 2026

Overview

Enchanting is one of the more unique crafting professions in WoW Forever. It allows players to permanently improve their weapons and armor with additional stats, special effects, and other useful bonuses. Unlike most crafting professions, Enchanters get their materials primarily through Disenchanting unwanted gear, turning Green and Blue items into Dusts, Essences, and Shards.

Enchanting has expanded A LOT compared to Classic, adding brand new Enchants for Necklaces and Off Hands, as well as additional Weapon, Bracer and other equipment Enchants. There are also new craftable Wands (including a low leveling one that players love), Staves, Off Hands, and even class specific Relics like Totems, Librams, and Idols. This is a pretty BIG improvement since Enchanting now lets you actually craft equipment instead of almost entirely focusing on improving current gear.

One of the biggest advantages of Enchanting is that every class can benefit from it. Whether you're playing a Tank, Healer or DPS there's almost always an Enchant that can improve your gear somehow. And with so many new recipes available while leveling, you'll have plenty of reasons to keep your Enchanting skill up instead of waiting until Level 60.

Tailoring is easily one of the best professions to pair with Enchanting since neither requires a gathering profession. You can collect Cloth from enemies, craft gear through Tailoring and then Disenchant anything you don't need for materials. This makes leveling both of these professions together really convenient, especially if you're playing a caster.

Enchanting also has some REALLY good gold making potential. Players constantly replace gear while leveling, running Dungeons and eventually Raiding, which means they'll need new Enchants all the time while playing the game. You can make gold by enchanting other players' gear, selling Disenchanted materials or crafting some of the new equipment.

WoW Forever also adds new Camping items like Enchanted Lute, Arcane Salvager, and Arcane Forge, giving Enchanters additional benefits while out in the world. Between the new Enchants, craftable equipment and those new Camping features, there's WAY more going on with Enchanting than just putting a few extra stats on someone's weapon.

What's New in WoW Forever

Enchanting a pretty MASSIVE overhaul, with roughly 60 new recipes in the current profession data, along with A LOT of changes to existing Enchants. There are new weapon effects, additional stat bonuses, entirely new equipment you can craft and even new ways to get Enchanting materials.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of Necklace Enchants, which were NOT available in Classic. These include options for Strength, Agility, Defense, Spell Damage, and Healing. There are also additional Enchants for Bracers, Gloves, Off Hands, and Two Handed Weapons, giving players WAY more ways to improve their gear.

Some of the new weapon Enchants are very interesting. Enchant Weapon - Insight, Enchant Weapon - Recovery and Enchant Weapon - Revelation. These provide special effects instead of simply adding stats, making them potentially VERY useful for certain classes and builds.

Another HUGE improvement is that Enchanting can now craft actual equipment. There are new Staves like Glimmering Staff and Soulstaff, new Wands, Off Hands and even class specific Relics for Druid, Paladin and Shaman. This is a pretty big deal since Enchanters now have more reasons to keep their profession leveled alongside their character instead of only using it to improve existing gear.

There are also some important changes to Enchanting materials. The new Mote of Magic is used for several early recipes, including your first Runed Copper Rod and Novice's Practice Wand. You can buy these from Enchanting supply vendors located usually next to your trainer, or create them by converting Strange Dust using the new Dust to Motes recipe.

A bunch of new recipes also require materials from OTHER professions, including Cerulean Dye, Magenta Dye, and Sulfuric Acid from Alchemy. This gives Enchanting a lot more interaction with other crafters instead of relying almost entirely on materials from Disenchanting.

Enchanting and Camping

Enchanting also gets three new items through the Camping system.

Camping Item

Enchanting Required

Benefit

Enchanted Lute

20

Provides Armor, Stats, and Resistances

Arcane Salvager

140

Improves Disenchanting efficiency

Arcane Forge

300

Allows special crafting recipes

The Enchanted Lute is your first Camping item and provides a strong defensive buff to players resting nearby. The Arcane Salvager is even more interesting because it allows for more efficient Disenchanting which could potentially make gathering Enchanting materials MUCH easier.

Lastly the Arcane Forge allows you to craft certain high level recipes that require a special crafting station. Both the Arcane Salvager and Arcane Forge also keep the benefits of your Enchanted Lute.

There's also the new Merchant's Favor system, which allows Enchanters to purchase additional formulas from special vendors by completing Waylaid Crates. You can also earn Legacy Points by reaching 150, 225, and 300 Enchanting, and eventually unlock the The Enchanter title through Enchanting Certification.

Overall, Enchanting has a ton more going for it. Between the new equipment, additional Enchants, and Camping features, it's no longer just about adding a few extra stats to your gear. You'll have more useful recipes while leveling, more ways to improve your character, and potentially some extremely good gold making opportunities.

Enchanting Trainer Locations

Finding an Enchanting Trainer in WoW Forever is pretty straightforward early on but things get a little more complicated once you're ready to learn Expert and Artisan.

You can learn Apprentice and Journeyman Enchanting in all the major cities, but Expert requires you to visit specific trainers outside the cities, while Artisan is taught by a trainer hidden inside the Uldaman Dungeon.

Here are the requirements for each rank:

Rank

Enchanting Required

Journeyman

Artisan

300

You can train the next rank BEFORE reaching your current skill cap, so don't wait until you're stuck at 75/75 or 150/150 to find a trainer.

Apprentice Trainer Locations

Apprentice Enchanting can be learned immediately on a fresh character and raises your maximum skill to 75. WoW Forever removes the old Level 5 requirement, so you can pick it up as soon as you find a trainer.

Alliance Trainers

Players leveling on Zephras Isle can also learn Apprentice Enchanting from Eaysaa Brightgust in Valanaar or Nasalanna Windsinger in Shen'dar Village.

Journeyman Trainer Locations

Journeyman Enchanting requires 50 Enchanting and Character Level 10 raising your maximum skill to 150.

You can still learn Journeyman in all the major cities, although you'll generally need to speak with a different trainer than the one who taught you Apprentice.

I'd highly recommend learning Journeyman as soon as you reach 50 Enchanting, especially if you're Disenchanting a bunch of items or crafting Enchants for skill points.

Expert Trainer Locations

Expert Enchanting requires 125 Enchanting and Character Level 20, raising your skill cap to 225.

This is where you'll need to do a little traveling because the normal capital city trainers can't teach you Expert.

Alliance: Kitta Firewind

Kitta Firewind is located at the top of the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest.

Head east from Goldshire toward the Tower of Azora, then climb the tower until you reach her.

/mappin 1429 64.8 70.6

Horde: Hgarth

Hgarth is located above Sun Rock Retreat in Stonetalon Mountains.

He's standing on a cliff overlooking the village. Look for the steep path northeast of the largest tent to reach him.

/mappin 1442 49.2 57.2

Both trainers can teach Expert Enchanting once you've met the requirements.

There's also a new Enchanting Trainer named Vanessa Sellers in Dalaran, Alterac Mountains. However, her training options appear to be bugged in the current Beta, so I'd recommend using the normal Expert trainers until her functionality is properly confirmed.

Artisan Trainer Locations

Artisan Enchanting is the final rank, raising your skill cap to 300. You'll need 200 Enchanting and Character Level 35 to learn it.

Unlike the other professions, both Alliance and Horde players must visit Annora inside Uldaman to learn Artisan Enchanting.

Both Factions: Annora

Annora is located inside the Uldaman Dungeon in the Badlands.

This is a little more complicated than simply traveling to a trainer because you'll need to enter the Dungeon and fight your way to her location.

I recommend using the rear entrance to Uldaman, which puts you closer to the area where Annora is located.

/mappin 1418 66.0 43.0

Once you reach her area you'll need to kill all the Scorpions nearby before Annora appears.

One VERY important tip is to bring enough Enchanting materials to reach at least 250 skill before leaving Uldaman. Annora teaches several recipes that you can't learn from normal trainers, and you don't want to make another trip through the Dungeon because you forgot to train something.

Since the current Beta is capped at Level 30, players can't normally train Artisan Enchanting yet. The location and trainer are documented, but the final Artisan progression still needs testing once we can reach Level 35.

How Enchanting Works

Unlike most crafting professions Enchanting doesn't require you to gather Herbs, Ore, or Leather. Instead you'll get most of your materials by Disenchanting unwanted equipment, which breaks down magical gear into Dust, Essences, Shards, and other reagents.

You then use those materials to Enchant your weapons and armor, craft magical equipment or make consumables like Wizard Oils. Or you can sell the materials on the auction house and make some gold. There are a few VERY important things to understand before you start especially how Disenchanting works and which materials you'll need as you level.

How Disenchanting Works

Disenchanting is the main way you'll get materials for Enchanting. Once you learn Apprentice Enchanting, you'll automatically unlock Disenchant, which allows you to destroy Green quality or higher weapons and armor in exchange for Enchanting materials.

In WoW Forever, you'll find Disenchant inside your Professions window, NOT your Spellbook. You can drag it directly onto your action bar to make Disenchanting items easier.

One HUGE thing worth knowing is that you can Disenchant high level equipment with just 1 Enchanting skill. You don't need to level the profession before breaking down higher level gear.

The materials you receive depend on the item's quality, item level, and whether it's a weapon or piece of armor.

Generally speaking:

  • Green Armor: Mostly produces Dust with a smaller chance of Essences.
  • Green Weapons: Mostly produce Essences with a smaller chance of Dust.
  • Blue Equipment: Usually produces Shards.
  • Epic Equipment: Produces high level Shards or Crystals depending on the item level.

IMPORTANT: Disenchanting permanently DESTROYS the item. You don't get it back so make sure you're not accidentally destroying something valuable. I also wouldn't automatically Disenchant every item you find. Sometimes the equipment sells for more on the Auction House than the materials you'd get from destroying it. So make sure to do a quick auction house check. It will the time spent, especially on launch.

Enchanting Materials and Reagents

Enchanting materials are divided into a handful of categories each used for different recipes as you progress through the profession.

Material

Common Uses

Mote of Magic

New early recipes and your first Runed Rod

Strange Dust, Soul Dust

Early Enchants, Wands and other recipes

Vision Dust, Dream Dust, Illusion Dust

Higher level Enchants and equipment

Magic Essence, Astral Essence, Mystic Essence

Weapon Enchants, Runed Rods and other crafting

Glimmering Shards, Glowing Shards, Radiant Shards

Stronger Enchants and specialized recipes

Brilliant Shards, Nexus Crystal

High level Enchants and endgame equipment

WoW Forever also introduces Mote of Magic which is used for some of your very first Enchanting recipes.

You can purchase Motes directly from Enchanting Supply vendors or make them yourself using Dust to Motes, which converts 1 Strange Dust into 3 Mote of Magic. These are easy to obtain and make, so do NOT spend a bunch of Gold on the Auction House on Motes.

This is actually a pretty nice improvement over Classic because you don't need to start Disenchanting a bunch of Green items just to make your first few Enchants. You'll also need materials from other professions for certain recipes. New Enchants and crafted equipment can use things like Cerulean Dye, Magenta Dye, and Sulfuric Acid from Alchemy along with metals, gems, and other special reagents.

Enchanting Rods

One of the most important things you'll need for Enchanting is a Runed Rod. These are reusable tools required for many Enchanting recipes, and you'll need stronger versions as you progress through the profession.

There are five main Runed Rods:

Runed Rod

When You'll Need It

Runed Copper Rod

Starting Enchanting

Runed Silver Rod

Early Journeyman recipes

Runed Golden Rod

Higher level Journeyman and Expert recipes

Runed Truesilver Rod

Advanced Expert recipes

Runed Arcanite Rod

High level Artisan recipes

You'll make your first Runed Copper Rod using a Copper Rod and Mote of Magic. Both of which can be purchased from Enchanting Supply vendors.

The later Rods are a little more complicated. You'll need metal Rods made through Blacksmithing, along with various Enchanting materials, Pearls, and other reagents. These can get pretty expensive, especially once you start working toward the Runed Arcanite Rod. I'd recommend preparing your next Rod BEFORE you actually need it. There's nothing worse than learning a powerful new Enchant only to realize you're missing the tool required to craft it.

And don't automatically throw away your older Runed Rods. Check your recipes to make sure you no longer need them.

Applying Enchants to Equipment

Actually Enchanting your gear is pretty straightforward. Open your Professions window, select the Enchant you want to apply, and choose the appropriate piece of equipment as your target. Each Enchant requires specific materials, and once applied, the bonus remains on that item until it's replaced by another Enchant.

You can also Enchant the same piece of equipment multiple times while leveling. Which is vital to leveling yoru Enchanting.

For example, if you're leveling Enchanting by crafting a Bracer Enchant you don't need to buy 50 different Bracers. You can just keep applying the Enchant to the same pair, replacing the previous effect each time. This is REALLY useful because otherwise leveling Enchanting would require an absolutely ridiculous amount of equipment.

Tips for Enchanting Beginners

Leveling Enchanting in can get pretty expensive, especially if you're buying all your Dust, Essences and Shards from the Auction House. There are a few things I'd recommend doing to save gold and make leveling the profession A LOT easier.

1. Pair Enchanting With Tailoring

Tailoring is easily one of the best professions to pair with Enchanting. You can turn Cloth into equipment then Disenchant anything you don't need for materials. This is especially useful while leveling both professions since you'll constantly be crafting gear that you probably won't use.

2. Don't Disenchant EVERYTHING

Just because you can Disenchant an item doesn't mean you should. Sometimes Green weapons and armor sell for WAY more than the materials you'd get from destroying them. Check Auction House prices before Disenchanting anything valuable, especially Blue items.

3. Reuse the Same Gear While Leveling

You don't need a new piece of equipment every time you apply an Enchant. You can keep Enchanting the same pair of Bracers, Boots or other equipment over and over, replacing the previous Enchant each time. This is MASSIVE for leveling since you can gain skill points without needing an inventory full of gear.

4. Prepare Your Runed Rods Early

You'll need stronger Runed Rods as you progress through Enchanting, and some require materials from Blacksmithing. I'd recommend getting your next Rod BEFORE reaching the recipes that require it. Also, don't buy basic vendor materials like Copper Rod, Mote of Magic or Simple Wood from the Auction House when they're sold by Enchanting Supply vendors.

5. Pay Attention to Material Prices

Some leveling routes use Dust, while others use Essences or crafted Wands. For example, Lesser Magic Wand and Greater Magic Wand can be useful for leveling, but whether they're cheaper than normal Enchants depends on material prices. Don't blindly follow one route if the materials are ridiculously expensive and always check the alternatives before buying everything.

6. Collect Important Formulas While Leveling

Not every Enchant is taught by your normal trainer. Some formulas are sold by special vendors, purchased using Merchant's Favor or obtained from enemy drops. If you're planning to level all the way to 300 I'd especially recommend checking which formulas your leveling route requires BEFORE reaching those skill ranges.

7. Prepare for Artisan Enchanting

Unlike most professions, Artisan Enchanting is taught by Annora inside Uldaman. You'll need Level 35 and 200 Enchanting to learn it and getting to her requires clearing part of the Dungeon. Bring enough materials to reach at least 250 Enchanting while you're there. Annora teaches more recipes as your skill increases and you REALLY don't want to make another trip through Uldaman just because you forgot to bring materials.

Leveling Enchanting 1 to 300

Leveling Enchanting in WoW Forever is a little different from Classic, especially with the new Mote of Magic, updated material requirements, and changes to several early recipes. The good news is that Enchanting is still pretty straightforward to level. You can repeatedly Enchant the same piece of equipment and most of your skill points can come from recipes learned directly from trainers.

This guide focuses on getting from 1 to 300 Enchanting while keeping material costs as low as possible. We'll mainly use Dust instead of expensive Essences and Shards where possible altho prices will vary quite a bit depending on your server.

IMPORTANT: The Beta ended with a Level 30 cap, so players couldn't normally test Artisan Enchanting beyond 225. The 225 to 300 route is based on current Forever recipe data and will need additional verification after launch. Check back shortly after launch for a perfected and updated page.

1 to 20: Start by crafting your Runed Copper Rod, then use Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina to reach 20. Both materials for the Rod can be purchased from Enchanting Supply vendors, so there's no reason to buy them from the Auction House.

20 to 70: Switch to Enchant Chest - Inferior Stamina. This only requires one Strange Dust per craft, making it one of the cheaper ways to level early Enchanting.

70 to 75: Finish with Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina.

Remember that you can repeatedly Enchant the same item while leveling. You don't need to buy a new pair of Bracers every time. Make sure you train Journeyman @Enchanting at 50 skill once you've reached Character Level 10.

Enchanting 75 to 150

This is where you'll start using A LOT more Strange Dust, along with your first upgraded Runed Rod.

75 to 100: Continue crafting Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina. This is a trainer recipe and only requires Strange Dust, so it's pretty straightforward.

100 to 130: Switch to Enchant Cloak - Minor Protection, but make your Runed Silver Rod at 109 to pick up an additional skill point. The Enchant turns Yellow at 110, so expect to make more than 20 to finish this range.

130 to 150: Make Enchant Bracer - Lesser Stamina using Soul Dust.

You can also use Enchant Boots - Minor Stamina, which requires 4 Strange Dust per craft. I'd recommend comparing material prices since Soul Dust might be considerably cheaper than buying another huge pile of Strange Dust.

You'll need Expert Enchanting to continue beyond 150.

Alliance players can learn Expert from Kitta Firewind at the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest, while Horde players should visit Hgarth above Sun Rock Retreat in Stonetalon Mountains.

Enchanting 150 to 225

This is where you'll start using Soul Dust, Vision Dust, and some Enchanting Oils to keep your material costs down.

You'll also need to make your Runed Golden Rod and Runed Truesilver Rod.

165 to 200: Make Enchant Boots - Lesser Agility until 185, then switch to Enchant Bracer - Strength. Both are trainer recipes that use relatively inexpensive Dust.

200 to 220: Craft your Runed Truesilver Rod, then start making Lesser Wizard Oil. You'll need Formula: Lesser Wizard Oil, which is sold by the same vendors that sell the Minor Mana Oil formula.

220 to 225: Finish with Enchant Cloak - Greater Defense. It only requires one Vision Dust per craft, making it a nice option for the final few points.

You can learn Artisan Enchanting once you reach 200 skill and Character Level 35, but you'll need to visit Annora inside Uldaman.

Enchanting 225 to 300

This is the final stretch of Enchanting, and where things start getting considerably more expensive.

Unlike the other profession ranks, Artisan Enchanting is taught by Annora inside Uldaman, and both factions need to visit her.

I'd HIGHLY recommend bringing enough materials to reach at least 250 Enchanting while you're there. Annora teaches several recipes that you can't learn from other trainers, and you don't want to make another trip through the Dungeon because you forgot something.

265 to 294: Make Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina. You'll need Formula: Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina, sold by Mythrin'dir in Darnassus or Daniel Bartlett in Undercity.

The formula is Bind on Pickup, so make sure you purchase it on your Enchanter.

294 to 295: Craft your Runed Arcanite Rod using:

  • 1 Arcanite Rod
  • 1 Golden Pearl
  • 10 Illusion Dust
  • 4 Greater Eternal Essence
  • 4 Small Brilliant Shard
  • 2 Large Brilliant Shard

You'll need Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod, which is sold by Lorelae Wintersong in Nighthaven, Moonglade.

295 to 300: Finish with Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense, which uses 8 Illusion Dust per craft.

Formula: Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense is also sold by Lorelae Wintersong, so make sure you buy BOTH formulas while you're there.

If Illusion Dust is ridiculously expensive, you can also continue making Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina instead, assuming you've got enough Dream Dust.

IMPORTANT: This Artisan route hasn't been fully tested through normal Beta progression, so we'll need to revisit the final skill ranges and material requirements once players can actually reach 300 after launch.

Important Enchants & Where to Get Them

WoW Forever adds A LOT of new Enchanting recipes, including entirely new Necklace and Off Hand Enchants, additional stats for existing equipment slots and some pretty cool Weapon Enchants with unique effects.

The important thing to remember is that not every Enchant comes from your normal trainer. Some formulas are purchased using Merchant's Favor, others come from special vendors, Dungeon Bosses or random world drops. Here are some of the Enchants I'd recommend paying attention to while leveling and eventually preparing for Level 60 content.

Best Enchants for Leveling

You don't need to spend a ton of Gold Enchanting every piece of gear while leveling especially when you're constantly replacing equipment.

However, there are some relatively inexpensive Enchants that can provide useful bonuses.

Enchant

Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina

Enchant Boots - Lesser Agility

Enchant Chest - Minor Stats

+2 All Stats

Enchant Weapon - Fiery Weapon

Chance to deal additional Fire damage

Most of the early stat Enchants are learned directly from trainers, making them pretty easy to pick up.Enchant Weapon - Fiery Weapon is a little different. The formula drops from Pyromancer Loregrain in Blackrock Depths, so it's something you'll generally pursue later rather than while leveling your first character.

Personally I wouldn't go crazy spending gold on Enchants for gear you're going to replace in a few levels. Save your expensive materials for equipment you actually plan on keeping.

New Forever Weapon Enchants

Some of the most interesting additions to Enchanting are the new Weapon Enchants that provide special effects instead of simply increasing your stats.

Enchant

Effect

Enchant Weapon - Insight

Chance to temporarily increase Spirit when casting spells

Enchant Weapon - Recovery

Chance to restore Health when your attacks are Parried or Dodged

Enchant Weapon - Revelation

Chance to significantly increase the Critical Strike Chance of your next direct spell after a non critical spell

All three require 140 Enchanting, and their formulas cost 45 Merchant's Favor each.

Enchant Weapon - Revelation is uniqquely interesting for Spellcasters since it gives you another way to improve your damage through a Weapon Enchant. Meanwhile, Recovery could be useful for physical classes that want some additional survivability. These are definitely worth testing, although their actual performance will depend on proc rates and how they interact with different classes.

New Necklace and Off Hand Enchants

Necklace Enchants are another HUGE addition to the game, because it gives players an entirely new equipment slot to improve.

Necklace Enchant

Effect

Enchant Necklace - Strength

Enchant Necklace - Agility

Enchant Necklace - Spell Power

Enchant Necklace - Healing Power

+11 Healing and +4 Spell Damage

Enchant Necklace - Deflection

+5 Defense Skill

These all require 210 Enchanting and cost 120 Merchant's Favor per formula.

There are also new Off Hand Enchants, including Enchant Off-Hand - Wisdom, which provides +6 Intellect and +5 Spirit.

This is a pretty big improvement for Casters and Healers since they now have additional ways to improve their equipment beyond the usual Weapon, Chest, and Bracer Enchants.

Important Level 60 Enchants

Once you reach 300 Enchanting, you'll have access to some of the strongest Enchants in the game.

Here are a few worth knowing about:

Merchant's Favor

The new Two Handed Weapon Enchants are pretty interesting because they provide MUCH larger bonuses than some of the traditional Weapon Enchants. But don't assume every new Enchant will automatically be BiS. Actual performance depends on your class, spec, equipment, and what other Enchants are available. Some of these formulas are also tied to endgame content, so their availability will depend on what players can access after launch.

Where to Get Enchanting Formulas

A LOT of the new Forever formulas are purchased using Merchant's Favor. You'll need to collect and complete Waylaid Crates, turn them in at your faction's supply camp, and spend the currency at the Enchanting vendor.

Alliance: Alynsia at Three Corners in Redridge Mountains, around 11.2, 71.4.

Horde: Beneris outside the Crossroads in The Barrens, around 49.6, 29.8.

You can also find valuable formulas from Dungeon Bosses, reputation vendors, and world drops.

One thing I'd HIGHLY recommend is checking the Auction House before spending hours farming a rare formula. Some of these can be traded and buying one might actually be cheaper than trying to farm it yourself. And if you're planning on making gold with Enchanting, getting your hands on valuable formulas early could be a MASSIVE advantage. Players constantly need their gear Enchanted, and you can charge a fee or accept tips for applying Enchants using materials they provide.

You don't even need to reach Level 60 to do this. Once you're Level 35, you can train Artisan and work toward 300 Enchanting giving you access to some pretty powerful recipes while your character is still relatively low level.
