Overview

Get Rich & Die Trying

Rogues use Stealth to sneak around the most dangerous places in the game, then proceed to pick pockets, crack lockets, sap noggins, and steal everything that isn't nailed down. We promptly vanish, reappear in the nearest city, and fence all our swag to the peoples of Azeroth through a shady little operation that I like to call 'the auction house'. It ain't much, and it's not honest work.

Ok, I lied..

It is much.

Very much, actually.

Best Farmers in Forever?

Rogue players have been farming gold ever since we figured out how to Pick Pocket our way through Black Rock Depths, all the way back in Vanilla. We’ve come a long way since then, developing more sophisticated methods over the years that have allowed us to make more gold than was ever considered possible. With a single rogue, I farmed 135,000g in the first two phases of TBC, and almost 1400g in 4 weeks on the beta - and based on what I’ve seen so far, Rogue will be one of these best, and possibly the best, solo goldfarming class in the game.

A Very Particular Set of Skills

Skills we have acquired over a very long career.

Stealth Vanish Distract Sap Sprint Pick Pocket Pick Lock Gouge Blind

While we have a large selection of goldfarms to choose from, and a multitude of methods to apply to them - the skill that's most fundamental to our strategy is Stealth. Goldfarms are either instance-based (dungeons and raids) or open-world (everywhere else) with stealth being a requirement within instances, and an advantage outside of them. Being able to move around an environment and choose whether or not to be seen, has long been debated as the most powerful single ability in the game.

Are Mages & Paladins Better?

Mage has worn the golden crown for over two decades (and with good reason) - they could inflict slows and area-of-effect (AoE) damage with spells like Blizzard and Flamestrike, enabling them to kill hundreds of mobs at the same time. By doing this they reaped huge loot rewards, as well as extra gold paid by lower-level players for experience ‘boosts’ received if they joined the mage's dungeon group. The Paladin class also profited handsomely from their AOE capabilities, but to a much lesser extent than Mages due to lack of both overall damage and the ability to slow targets.

The Age of Mage Is Over

These lucrative methods that creative players developed over the years had unintended consequences on the game. In response to this, Blizzard introduced powerful changes in Forever that significantly impact the ability of AOE classes to farm gold. Basically, slows aren't as slow and spell damage has been drastically reduced when hitting more than 4 targets. Hard nerfs like these are very difficult for those classes to work around and will significantly impact their bottom line.

The Time of Rogue Has Begun

As usual, we've managed to avoid detection - which means we've never been in a better position to wrap our nimble fingers around that golden crown, once and forever! To do so, we're going to pinch, pilfer, and otherwise profit by robbing anything and everything, from all fours corners of Azeroth. Chests, herbs, mines, skins, and shards, as well as loot from dungeon mobs, rare-spawns, and bosses - it varies wildly from farm to farm but basically, it's all the expensive stuff.

  • Herbs, Black Lotus, Death Lotus
  • Ores, Stones, Gems, Arcane Crystals
  • Skins, Dragon Scales, Devilsaur Leather
  • Chests With Assorted Valuable Items
  • Specific Mobs With Lucrative Drops
  • Instance Specific Rare Sellables

Forever Gold Farms

The Meta Will Change - Forever

Best-in-slot gear, consumables, enchants and so on (as well as the materials used to craft them) will all shift to greater and lesser degrees, once the endgame dust has settled. The value of some goldfarms will increase, while others will decrease, and some never-before-seen farms will be developed (by yours truly) with the coming of the new content. The list below (in no particular order) represents the best rogue money makers in WoW Classic - the majority of which will retain their value in Forever.

1. Lower Blackrock Spire (Dungeon)

Pick Lock Combat Subtlety

Availability: Launch

It remains to be seen how much these assets are worth at endgame but they've been very lucrative when sold early in the first phase of classic. There's also a chest that will sometimes spawn behind the Pyromancers, so yoink that whenever it's up.

  • Firebrand Pyromancer
    • Pattern: Robe of the Archmage Classic BIS Chest for Mages in the first two phases.
    • Recipe: Greater Fire Protection Potion BIS Raid Consumable for MC and BWL - New raids likely to not have much fire damage and if so, the early value of this will be extremely low comparitively.
    • 1x Large Mithril Bound Chest (Lockpicking 250)
  • Firebrand Invoker
    • Recipe: Greater Fire Protection Potion
  • Bannok Grimaxe
    • Arcanite Reaper Blacksmithing Plan

2. Alterac Valley (Battleground)

Pick Pocket Pick Lock

Availability: Launch

A real scumbag method (I love it) and the best way to duo-farm honor and gold - but only available to the alliance. As soon as AV starts, peel right and head into the nearby mine (top entrance), now sneak through and pickpocket all the troggs. By the time you loop around to the exit (bottom entrance), the pockets of the first mobs will have respawned. Basically, you get paid to farm honor.

  • Honor
  • Raw Silver
  • Various Gems
  • Blinding Powder
  • Superior Healing Potion
  • Various Poison Materials

3. Zul'Gurub (Raid)

Herbalism Mining Engineering

Availability: TBA

We're still not sure when this raid will be released in Forever but these assets will always be in-demand so you can rest assured that this farm will be one of the best money-makers in the game. You can have either profession and still make a lot of gold. Engineering items can be used on various packs in a variety of ways that enable us to mine the vein and then vanish.

  • Thorium Ore (Mining 275)
  • Arcane Crystal Souldarite Dense Stone (From Thorium Veins)
  • Purple Lotus (Herbalism 210)
  • Dreamfoil (Herbalism 270)
  • Golden Sansam (Herbalism 260)
  • Mountain Silversage (Herbalism 280)
  • Bloodvine (From Herbs - Bloodscythe Required)
  • Voodoo Dolls

4. Dire Maul East (Dungeon)

Herbalism Mining Pick Lock

Availability: TBA

Another legendary goldfarm that will retain its value.. Forever. The bulk of our gold comes from herbs, with additional income from chest loot and felcloth drops. You may get lucky with a rare book - some of them are worth a lot and the epic book is worth hundreds of gold. I included mining as a profession because it may be possible to mine Thorium from the tunnel behind the last boss - I'm working on it.

  • 1x Large Mithril Bound Chest (Lockpicking 250)
  • Ghost Mushroom (Herbalism 245)
  • Gromsblood (Herbalism 250)
  • Golden Sansam (Herbalism 260)
  • Dreamfoil (Herbalism 270)
  • Felcloth and Runecloth

A Dusty Tome

  • Druid: The Emerald Dream
  • Hunter: The Greatest Race of Hunters
  • Mage: The Arcanist's Cookbook
  • Paladin: The Light and How to Swing It
  • Priest: Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You
  • Rogue: Garona: A Study on Stealth and Treachery
  • Shaman: The Frost Shockomancer's Guide
  • Warlock: Harnessing Shadows
  • Warrior: Codex of Defense
  • Quel'Serrar: Foror's Compendium of Dragon Slaying

5. Silithus Tunnels (Open World)

Mining | Subtlety Combat

Availability: At Launch

The fabled hive-tunnels of Silithus are filled with riches, but also crawling with giant lvl 60 elite bugs that help to keep all but the savviest of stealth-classes at bay. An open-world farm that's available at launch but expect competition from rogues and druids - what happens in the tunnels, stays in the tunnels.

  • Thorium Ore (Mining 275)
  • Dense Stone
  • Arcane Crystal
  • Blue Sapphire
  • Large Opal
  • Azerothian Diamond

6. Devilsaurs (Open World)

Skinning | Subtlety Combat

Availability: At Launch

This could be lucrative because most physical DPS classes require the Pattern: Devilsaur Leggings and Devilsaur Gauntlets set for their pre-raid BIS. The leather used to craft these can only be skinned from elite Devilsaurs and there are just a few spawn points in Un’Goro Crater. It remains to be seen whether Blizzard will controlled for this by making this leather available at the Black Market Vendor, or with new equivalent gear options for endgame players. Those on a PvP ruleset should know that this farm will be heavily contested - great for players who are looking for that kind of thing, not so great for those who aren't.

  • Devilsaurs
  • Devilsaur Leather
  • Pattern: Devilsaur Gauntlets
  • Pattern: Devilsaur Leggings

7. Maraudon (Dungeon)

Mining Herbalism | Combat

Availability: At Launch

In Classic, this farm is low hanging fruit for fresh 60 rogues who wanted to get some easy money - and it will be available at launch. It's also a great place to level certain brackets of herbalism or mining, without having to worry about open-world competition - sneak in, kill elementals, herb and/or mine, teleport out, and repeat. A solid starter farm, but how lucrative it ultimately becomes will depend heavily on the value of Elemental Earth.

  • Elemental Earth & Solid Stone
  • Gold Bar (Requires Mining 155)
  • Mithril Ore (Requires Mining 175)
  • Blindweed (Requires Herbalism 235)
  • Truesilver Bar (Requires Mining 230)
  • Ghost Mushroom (Requires Herbalism 245)

8. Crusader Enchant (Open World)

Combat Subtlety Assassination

Availability: At Launch

The Crusader Enchant needs no introduction, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to give you one - quite simply, it was the best weapon enchant for melee DPS for the entire life-cycle of Classic. It only drops (at 0.4% or 1/250) from a few easy-to-kill mobs at a single tower in the Western Plaguelands, and will be worth a lot of gold (especially early on) if it remains BIS. It is the single most valuable item in the game that we can reliably farm so expect a lot of competition. If you're at the tip of the launch-leveling spear, it's certainly worth spending at least a little time grinding in this spot anytime between 55-60.

9. Greater Protection Potions (Open World)

Combat Subtlety Assassination

Availability: At Launch

Greater Fire Protection Potion was the king of raid cons in the first two phases of classic because many of the bosses in both Molten Core and Blackwing Lair did lots of fire damage to the entire raid. The recipe was worth hundreds of gold early on and the sooner you got it, the more it was worth. With Forever having new release raids, we'll have to wait and see which protection potion will be BIS (my money is on nature). Furthermore, the devs may have varied damage-types across encounters, which would split the value of these recipes more evenly. Either way, you can farm all of these from mobs in the open world, at launch.

  • Recipe: Greater Shadow Protection Potion Source
  • Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion Source
  • Recipe: Greater Nature Protection Potion Source
  • Recipe: Greater Frost Protection Potion Source
  • Recipe: Greater Fire Protection Potion Source

10. Scarlet Monastery (Dungeon)

Combat Subtlety | Pick Lock Engineering

Availability: At Launch

My all-time favourite fresh server farm - you don't have to wait until endgame to make easy money! Based mainly in the Graveyard (sooner) and Library (later) - the main source of income is from chests (both instances have two) with a little extra from herbs, if you can pick them.

The first chest in the graveyard requires Engineering shenanigans but the second is simple combat, while the Library chests both require you to kill the surrounding mobs. In your mid-thirties, you can comfortably crack the graveyard, but you'll want to be closer to 40 to tackle the Library.

I opened 892 chests between both of these instances on the Beta, and I counted the gold-per-hour using only the vendor value - the Graveyard is worth around 7g 50s, while the Library is closer to 9g. If you find any rings, necklaces, or head pieces with good stats, they will sell very well on the auction house, while you can get multiple gold for the best rares - even on a fresh server. At launch (when auctioning the best of what you get) the gold-per-hour from Graveyard will climb to around +10g, with the Library rising to roughly +12g.

If you want to level fast but pick up some quick cash just leave party whenever you finish a normal dungeon run in SM and slip into the graveyard. If you're not an engineer, sneak through to the courtyard, delete the mob beside the chest, crack it and sneak out in 5 minutes. Reset and repeat until you lockout, then skidaddle back to your current quest hub with a heavier purse. If you have your heart set on a mount at 40, stay in here and farm for a single day - you'll be close.

These are some of the best drops you could hope for:

Chests - Graveyard & Library - these can be sold at launch from 3-10g depending on the item

Tigerstrike Mantle Forest Tracker Epaulets Zealot Blade Windweaver Staff Mark of Kern The Butcher Scarlet Belt Scarlet Chestpiece Beguiler Robes Swampchill Fetish Cobalt Crusher Flintrock Shoulders Steelclaw Reaver Sliverblade and many more.

Graveyard Rare Spawns - bind on pickup so can't be sold but very good items for rogues

  • Ironspine: Ironspine's Eye Ironspine's Fist
  • Azshir the Sleepless: Ghostshard Talisman
  • Fallen Champion: Ebon Vise

Herb Spawns -make sure your herbalism is 125 before you go to SM

  • Grave Moss (Herbalism 120) - Graveyard
  • Kingsblood (Herbalism 125) - Graveyard
  • Liferoot (Herbalism 150) - Library
  • Fadeleaf (Herbalism 160) - Library

11. Darkwhisper Gorge (Open World)

Mining | Combat Subtlety Assassination

Availability: At Launch

  • Thorium Ore (Mining 275)
  • Arcane Crystal
  • Azerothian Diamond
  • Blue Sapphire
  • Large Opal
  • Souldarite
  • Dense Stone

A fantastic open-world farming spot for Rich Thorium Veins, though you will likely face a lot competition. Nestled in the deep south of Winterspring, the area is home to elite Felguards, Felhunters, and Succubi - not for the feint of heart! One of the only locations in the world where the Eye of Shadow can drop which is required by priests for their epic twin-staff Anathema Benediction. If you can manage to solo any of the denizens of this particular gorge (while you're waiting for mines to respawn) you can make some serious money, if lady luck is on your side.

12. Razorfen Downs (Dungeon)

Herbalism Enchanting | Combat Subtlety Assassination

Availability: At Launch

13. BRD Pick Pocket (Dungeon)

Pick Pocket Pick Lock Enchanting | Combat Subtlety Assassination

Availability: At Launch

  • Heavy Junkbox (lockpicking 250)
  • Enchant Weapon - Fiery Weapon
  • Small Brilliant Shard
  • Greater Eternal Essence
  • Lesser Eternal Essence
  • Illusion Dust

Goldfarming Professions

Stonks

You'll have the best potential to make the most money stealth-farming with Herbalism and Mining. You don't have to have both, but having one of these will grant you access to farms that consistently produce the best profits. This gives us a lot of freedom in our second profession choice - another gathering for the all-in farmers, or a craft that supports your player-vs-player, raiding, or money making endeavors.

Herbalism & Mining are the most beloved gathering professions for rogues who can easily stealth past high-level enemies to secure nodes in dungeons and the open-world. Having either of these will allow you to make enough money to support your raiding and pvp addictions - having both gives you access to 95% of goldfarms in the game. We can also avail of some campfire freebies by way of the new Rock Garden and Greenhouse items.

Skinning can be very lucrative with a fresh release because almost all melee DPS classes require the crafted Devilsaur Gauntlets Pattern: Devilsaur Leggings set for their pre-raid BIS (changes may affect this). The leather used to craft these can only be skinned from elite Devilsaurs and there are only a few spawn points in Un’Goro Crater. It remains to be seen whether Blizzard has controlled for this by making the leather available on the Black Market Vendor, or with new items that have equivalent power. Skinners can avail of the new Field Guide while at a campfire, giving rogues Track Beasts!

Enchanting gives us the ability to disenchant (using our new Arcane Salvager of course) non-tradable BoP rare items that we farm from bosses in dungeons. It's a very specific use-case to which we have to devote an entire primary profession, so you'll want to be either committed to shard-farms (like RFD) or someone who splits their gold making between farming and semi-afk enchanting. Handy for those that work from home - good luck farming Enchant Weapon - Crusader!

Engineering has historically been used in goldfarming for its devices and explosives which are too numerous and have too many specific use-cases to list. Basically, we use this stuff to get our hands on other stuff that's worth a lot of money. However, with Forever we've seen lots of new items like EZ and SAF Field Transporter: Mt. Hyjal, SAF-T Nitro Boosts EZ-Thro Thorium Grenade that can be crafted by engineers and sold to non engineers. Engineering will become an even better money maker - one that doesn't just allow us to be better gold farmers, but also to make significantly more money as crafters, too. We get a campfire Repair Bot but sadly, it wouldn't buy trash on the Beta.

Alchemy has received many new recipes for potions, elixirs, flasks, and the new Fermenter for some freebies along the way. Getting a desirable recipe early will allow you to capitalize, but you'll still make solid money every week if you pick it up later. You'll be surprised at how much you'll make with just Recipe: Major Mana Potion, especially when you track the market to discover when prices are highest. You can also boost your income with transmutes - turning something (or some things) into something else, which you can do once a day, or every two days, depending on the transmute.

Leatherworking is a wildcard - things like Devilsaur Leggings will make you good money early, but unless there's more lined up, your profitability will fall off after the first phase. It would be great to see upgradable endgame sets and BIS items that retain value over time and can be sold at auction. There's hope for endgame money with the armor kits we've seen in the Beta, which have powerful endgame equivalents Core Armor Kit Wild Leather Armor Kit that will be valuable, too. The new Tanning Rack will provide you with some free skins, while the possibility for us to discover and develop new farms for required materials in the new crafts is equally exciting - we'll just have to wait and see.

Goldfarming Combos

Herbalism Mining gives you access to the widest variety of goldfarms in the game and it looks likely that Hyjal will have herbs (Enchant Gloves - Lotus Claw) unless it's just bait for dataminers. You can level them quickly and inexpensively while you level your character - bank the mats for later (recommended) or sell them as you go for quick cash. Having both close to 300 at endgame puts you in the best position for farming, or if you decide to swap to another profession. Once the meta has settled, we'll know which crafts are going to be BIS for endgame content, then you may choose to drop the least profitable/compatible.

Mining Engineering is a combo that will always sell - great for goldfarming, raiding, and pvp. There are plenty of opportunities available at launch for Miners, while certain farms are only possible with devices that engineers alone can use. With updates to the profession table suggesting that selling crafts will also be very profitable - this combo could be the best rogue money-maker in the game.

Herbalism Alchemy if you're a flask-is-half-full kind of rogue then you're going to love the perfect pairing of these professions. Dire Maul: East, Hyjal Raid, Zul'Gurub, and the Open-World - all are your oyster when you know how to pick flowers. Turning them into potions and elixirs that you can use or sell just feels good, especially if you enjoy the lore-accurate synergy of a class that already pours poisons into pots. Whatever your reasoning - you'll never go hungry as a Herbalist, nor thirsty as an Alchemist.

Enchanting Herbalism is certainly a less popular pick, but it is nonetheless viable in a number of different ways. Stealthing to bosses and ripping them for their loot is about as rogue as it gets, and while sharding blues this way hasn't historically made as much money as other methods - we have a lot more tools at our disposal this time around. We will be able to dispatch more endgame bosses than we could in classic, but will the gold-per-hour compare? All will be revealed with time.

Enchanting Mining we use the same logic as above, though now I have the space to mention that we may be getting profession-only ring enchants in Forever. These could make Enchanting a BIS raiding profession (like the TBC equivalents) given that we can now buy Engineering bombs on the auction house. Sure, it's speculation for now - but enchanting may be good for the purse and good for the parse.

Poisons

When goldfarming, you’ll almost always be using the latest version of Instant Poison on both weapons because Deadly Poison will break our Blind or Gouge which we need for our bandage casts. We can switch to Deadly Poison when we're engaging a boss that's immune to our stuns and Crippling Poison, Mind-numbing Poison, or Wound Poison are situational options.

Stones

In Forever, we can now have poisons and sharpening stones on each of our weapons at the same time, which is a strong boost to our damage. Dense Sharpening Stone and Heavy Sharpening Stone are the highest level stones we are aware of at this point (Elemental Sharpening Stone are far too expensive to ever be considered) but like Healing Potions, the most cost-effect option is usually the second best variant.

Bandages

First Aid bandages synergize incredibly well with our stuns, allowing us to heal large portions of our health with a single cast. When you find yourself back in a city and low on supply, check the auction house for the max level bandage you can use as they’re usually listed for less than the cloth required to make them. Especially consider buying when know you’re going to befarming in an area with few humanoids as you won’t be getting the cloth required for crafts.

Campfires

Fish Bowl (learned at Fishing 20) is the best bang for our goldfarming buck - budget Blessing of Kings buff giving +8% to all stats on a 1hr cooldown. Incredible value that scales with your gear. Buy enough Flint and Tinder and craft 5-10 campfires, Fish Bowl (or required materials) cost very little on the auction house, buy enough to match your campfire stack and restock whenever you're back in a city.

Food Buffs Cookie's Feast

The best food for combat-farming rogues is anything that gives bonus Agility, Attack Power, or Stamina. Poached Sunscale Salmon, Swiftstrike Steak, and Savory Turtle Stew are the BIS variants but as always, lower tiers will be much cheaper. Stamina is the cheapest overall but I generally don't spend money on food for farms unless I'm right on the bleeding edge of possibility for a given farm (gear level, talent setup, required profession items, etc).

Alchemy Buffs

As a general rule we want to keep consumable use to a minimum when we're goldfarming since the cost of anything we use will come out of our overall profits. That being said, there are many potions and elixirs that are cheap and provide excellent utility across different farms. Swiftness Potion Swim Speed Potion Lesser Invisibility Potion Invisibility Potion are just a few examples of the kinds of effects we can bring into a given situation.

Healing Potion variants can now be crafted with First Aid and require herbs that are relative to the level of the potions. We often loot these potions from pickpocketing, chests, and Toxin Study but when you want to stock up before starting a farm, the best bang for your buck in the endgame will come from Superior Healing Potion. The purpose of a potion is boost our health enough to stop us getting killed, and in the vast majority of cases when you use one, Superiors will do just as good a job as Major Healing Potion at a fraction of the cost. Similar to Tea, use them for emergencies or taking on an unusually large pack of mobs.

Thistle Tea

Thistle Tea is one of the best offensive consumables for rogues, use it immediately after draining your energy as close to 0 as possible in order to maximize your energy gain, and in turn, your damage output. If you are Combat spec, use it during your Blade Flurry window to maximize damage.

Getting your Cooking up to 60 will allow you to craft the tea and you’ll get Recipe: Thistle Tea as a reward from the level 20 poison quest (it can also be bought in Ravenholdt Manor). Apart from the vendor water, Swiftthistle is the only other ingredient and it's generally quite cheap on the auction house. Though it can fluctuate from time to time so when you find it listed at a low price, get yourself a stack if you can afford it. Buying Tea outright is usually a bad idea as its almost always listed for more than Swiftthistle and it only takes a few seconds to craft your own.

Goldfarming Racials

Night Elf

Elune's Light grants 10% increased crit chance for 15 seconds with a 3-minute cooldown - very strong when combined with Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush, for increased damage in any combat farming situation.

Quickness adds 1% dodge (synergises well with Setup and a small bonus to survivability) and a flat 2% increased movement speed, which does stack with other bonuses like the 8% movement from the Minor Speed enchant for boots.

Shadowmeld increases the base strength of our stealth, making Night Elves more effective at moving around enemies without being seen. Check the macro section below for my all-in-one stealth macro which uses shadowmeld when stealth is on cooldown. It'll get you out of a tight spot.

Wisp Spirit is a bittersweet racial that grants us an impressive 75% extra movement speed with the rather unimpressive condition that we have to be dead to avail of it. Getting back to our corpses as quickly as possible will be a benefit while farming, just hopefully not too often.

Dwarf

Stoneform has a 3-minute cooldown, removes and grants immunity to all Bleeds, Poisons, and Diseases, as well as reducing incoming physical damage by 10% for 8 seconds. Niche but useful for farms that have elites or bosses that use any of those abilities.

Artisan's Precision increases hit chance with all spells and attacks by 1% which is a very nice boost to one of the strongest stats for rogue and will push your damage in farms that have combat situations.

Find Treasure is the big one for goldfarming, giving us a chance at bonus loot from chests which makes Dwarves the best race for any farm that involves opening chests. Tracking treasure chests on the mini-map is nice but not necessary (we know where all the chests spawn are).

Big Game Hunter increases damage to beasts by 5% which is a significant boost, especially for any combat-farms that include this creature type.

Undead

Cannibalize gives us 35% of our health back by consuming a dead humanoid - which saves you food and bandages in any humanoid-based combat-farms. Eat after fights to reduce downtime, or in the middle of one when you need a quick bite: Gouge, Blind, or Kidney Shot, then Cannibalize.

Touch of the Grave has a 20% chance per hit to drain life (up to 5% of our life total) from the target, with an internal cooldown of 15s, granting us some much welcomed damage and healing in any of our combat-farms. Whenever you finish a fight with just a sliver of health left, you can be grateful for Touch of the Grave as you would probably have died without it.

Will of the Forsaken removes Charm, Fear, and Sleep and has niche applications for gold farming. When you are against an elite or boss that fears, it feelsgood.

Underwater Breathing allows us to breathe 300% longer underwater - a small convenience from time to time.

Human

Perception increases stealth detection for 20 seconds which is mainly useful in open-world farming when there's an enemy rogue or druid skulking about. You can occasionally check stealth patrols in dungeons like Dire Maul East, that might slow you down or get you killed.

Will to Survive instantly removes all stun effects on a 3-minute cooldown, which will come in handy across a variety of combat farms - always feels good to push a button that gets you out of a crunch.

Ruthless now increases critical strike chance by 1% for all spells and attacks - a nice boost to a good stat that will push a little more damage when combat-farming.

The Human Spirit increases (you guessed it) our spirit by 10%. A little extra health regen, but since spirit doesn’t affect energy gains, that’s about it.

Gnome

Eureka! grants both 10% reduced energy cost and 10% increased damage to our non-periodic damaging abilities for 8 seconds with a relatively short 2-minute cooldown. This solid burst of DPS will be best used with Blade Flurry and Adrenaline rush to speed up your combat-based farming.

Expansive Mind increases our maximum energy by 5% which in most situations, will be 5 energy. Another racial that synergises well with burst tactics and gives you a little push when fighting.

Escape Artist gives brief immunity to roots and snares which is often useful for open-world farming on PvP rulesets. Also useful for dungeon farms in which these mechanics will slow you down.

Engineering Specialization reduces the rate of engineering devices failing or backfiring by 20% which is a nice benefit when our farms use Gnomish Rocket Boots and other such shenanigans!

Skyborne

Walk on Air allows you to glide downward through the air for 10 seconds while controlling the direction of your travel, with a 1.5-minute cooldown. A useful ability in a many goldfarming situations, both instance-based and open-world. You can disengage or engage with a player or target from height, get down to an asset quickly, as well as protect yourself from falling to death. Lots of interesting potential when combined with items like Rocket Boots or Parachute Cloak.

Read Leyline is the Alliance Skyborne racial that has a 2-minute cooldown and increases health and mana regeneration by 50% for 15 seconds. Using Read Leyline at a Ley Line grants “Attuned” for 1 hour, during which the benefit of Read Leyline is increased to 100% regeneration. You could grab the buff before starting your farm and have a spirit set to equip between fights in order to heal up quickly.

Skysight is the Horde version that increases movement and mounted speed by 15% for 15 seconds. It has a half-second cast and a 2-minute cooldown. Using Skysight at an elemental convergence now grants “Charged” for 1 hour (persists through death), during which the benefit of Skysight is increased to 30% movement speed. This is a powerful ability that will improve your gold-per-hour as you can cover more ground (and bag more assets) in less time. You can also out-manoeuvre most other races in open-world scenarios on both PvP and PvE rulesets. Pick up the Charged buff before you start farming.

Wind Blessed increases casting, melee, and ranged haste by 2%, and considering that roughly half our damage comes from our normal weapon swings - this equates to a 1% damage increase from our white hits. Additionally, the extra speed will further increase DPS from on-hit weapon procs like poisons, enchants, and items. Nice for combat-farming.

Elemental Insight increases damage to Elementals by 5% which is a powerful DPS boost against these types of enemies, elites, or dungeon bosses - especially when combined with Alchemy potions that increase our attack power against Elementals.

Troll

Berserking increases both casting and attack speed by 10% for 10 seconds, with a 3-minute cooldown - a powerful damage ability that will return maximum value when used with Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush. Additionally, anything that has a flat % chance to proc when we hit something (like poisons, windfury, etc) also gets a boost in value.

Rapid Regeneration is a cast that grants 50% of your total health over 6 seconds, with a 3-minute cooldown. Excellent synergy with our short-term crowd controls; we can Gouge, Blind, or Kidney Shot, then Rapid Recuperation (usually when you’ve recently bandaged or run out altogether). Great for reducing downtime and for particularly difficult solo elite encounters.

Regeneration is a passive that allows 20% of your health regeneration to continue in combat, is best understood as a passive healing racial, and can be boosted with spirit gear.

Beast Slaying increases damage to beasts by 5% which is a powerful DPS boost against these types of enemies, elites, or dungeon bosses.

Orc

Shatter Curse has a 3-minute cooldown, removes curses and banes immediately, while also reducing incoming magical damage by 5% for 8 seconds. Niche but useful for farms that have elites or bosses that use any of those abilities.

Blood Fury increases attack power and spell power by 10% for 15 seconds, on a 3-minute cooldown. A powerful damage ability that will return maximum value when used with Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush, as well as boost the damage of many of our abilities that scale with attack power.

Hardiness is a passive that reduces the duration of stun effects on you by 20%. It finds most of its value in open-world PvP farming scenarios but also be nice for dungeon enemy stuns as it will allow you to get back on target faster, which results in more overall damage and hopefully not a corpse run.

Command increases Warlock and Hunter pet damage by 5%, completely useless to Rogue unless it has unintended synergies with trinkets or on-use items that spawn combat pets into a fight.

Macros

All-In-One Stealth

The macro that got me into macros, everything you need in one button (including shadowmeld for night elves). It casts stealth when out of combat, casts shadowmeld when stealth is on cooldown, casts vanish if you’re in combat, and casts stealth to unstealth you if you are already in stealth. Set and forget for PvE but not always ideal in PvP!

#showtooltip Vanish
/cast [nostealth,nocombat] Stealth
/cast [nostealth,nocombat] Shadowmeld
/cast [nostealth,combat] Vanish
/cast [stealth] Stealth

One-Click Poisons & Stones

Left-click to apply to the main hand, right-click for the off hand. Remember to update the poison or stone name in the macros when you get more powerful ranks.

#showtooltip Instant Poison

/use Instant Poison;

Faster Poison Window

One-click access to your poison profession tab.

#showtooltip Poisons

/cast Poisons

One Button Healing

Uses any healing items you have equipped (first two lines) and any healing potion you have in your bags (starting with the best). This one uses my Minor Recombobulator, Satchel of Potions and a Healing Potion at the same time, providing a massive lay-on-hands type heal.

/use Minor Recombobulator

/use Satchel of Potions

/use Major Healing Potion

/use Superior Healing Potion

/use Greater Healing Potion

/use Healing Potion

/use Lesser Healing Potion

/use Minor Healing Potion

One Button Bandage

Uses the best bandage you have available, replace Linen bandage with Heavy Runecloth Bandage in later levels (not enough space I the macro for all of them). While you generally won’t be using bandages that are more than one bandage level below your current best, putting this macro on your bars means you always use the best of what you have and you never have to worry about swapping your action bar icons around as you level up First Aid.

One Button Pick Lock

Targets any lockbox you have in your bags, picking and opening them one by one. There's a slight delay so sometimes you'll click it twice but this just adds to the charm - like you're trying to jimmy the lock.

#showtooltip Pick Lock

/use Battered Junkbox

/use Worn Junkbox

/use Heavy Junkbox

/use Sturdy Junkbox

/cast Pick Lock

Start Attacks

This macro has a double benefit: it automatically uses the ability and saves a prime action bar slot that your normal attack ability would have taken.

The normal ability buttons will target mobs but if you don’t have enough energy to use the ability it will not start attacking the target, costing you precious DPS.

The Riposte command that I’ve added (won’t interfere with abilities if you don't have it talented) uses Riposte whenever it activates, I've excluded it from abilities with which it would undermine the use-case intention.

#showtooltip Gouge

Auto Pick Pocket

When you open on a target from stealth this macro always picks the targets pocket first (if the target has pockets to pick). Sometimes you’ll loot the pocket when you push the button, sometimes the pocket loot will be added to the corpse loot. I don't make the rules.

#showtooltip Ambush

/cast Pick Pocket

/cast Ambush

#showtooltip Cheap Shot

/cast Pick Pocket

/cast Cheap Shot

#showtooltip Garrote

/cast Pick Pocket

/cast Garrote

Prem, Pick, Opener

Puts two points on target, picks pocket, uses opener. Premeditation and Pick Pocket can both miss which will drop you out of stealth, so this is a somewhat risky macro.

#showtooltip Cheap Shot

/cast Premeditation

/cast Pick Pocket

/cast Cheap Shot

Weapon Swaps

Mostly used for Ambush, Backstab, or hybrid builds, you can change the weapon names to whatever you're using.

/equipslot 16 Assassin's Blade

/equipslot 16 Cruel Barb

Cold Blood Eviscerate

Automatically uses Cold Blood (when available) and then Eviscerate, make sure you have 5 combo points. 5-point Eviscerate crits are worth more damage than Mutilate crits.

#showtooltip Eviserate

/cast Cold Blood

/cast Eviscerate

Blade Flurry +

Uses whatever consumable or trinket you have written into the macro so your flurry does maximum damage. In this example from TBC, I’m using a haste potion and trinket to massively increase my attack speed and power.

#showtooltip Blade Flurry

/use Haste Potion

/use Bloodlust Brooch

/cast Blade Flurry

Chain Pick Pocket

A great macro for Pick Pocket farming - it targets, picks pocket, and clears target.

#showtooltip Pick Pocket

/cleartarget

/targetenemy [noharm] [dead]

/cast [harm,nodead] Pick Pocket

Sap Target

Adds a target and clear target to your sap which makes it a cleaner experience overall.

#showtooltip sap

/cleartarget

/targetenemy [noharm] [dead]

/cast [harm,nodead] Sap

Instant Dummy

Removes the green reticle step from the process of placing a dummy and spawns it immediately wherever your cursor is (generally I like the green reticle but there are certain situations when speed is crucial).

#showtooltip Target Dummy

/cast [@cursor] Target Dummy

/focus Target Dummy

Instant Bomb

Removes the green reticle step from the process of throwing a grenade and spawns it immediately wherever your cursor is (generally I like the green reticle but there are certain situations when speed is crucial).

#showtooltip Iron Grenade

/use [@cursor] Iron Grenade

One Button Instance Reset

Resets the dungeon or raid as long as you are outside the instance.

/script ResetInstances();

Ghetto Graveyard

Automatically creates the instance countdown to telport you out of a dungeon or raid, to the nearest graveyard.

/run C_PartyInfo.InviteUnit("ghetto");C_Timer.After(1,function() ConvertToRaid() end)

/run C_PartyInfo.InviteUnit("ghetto");C_Timer.After(1,function() LeaveParty() end)

Ping

Prints your current latency into the chat window, useful for UI setups that remove the Blizzard icon showing your ping on mouseover.

/run print("Current Latency: "..select(4,GetNetStats()).."ms.")

Spec Swap

One button talent specialization swap: ’Sap’ and ‘Sinister Strike’ in the first line denotes only which icons are used.

#show [spec:2] Sap; [spec:1] Sinister Strike

/script C_SpecializationInfo.SetActiveSpecGroup(3 - GetActiveTalentGroup())

Easy Enchanting

Two-button macro for when you want to train many enchanting levels at once (two separate macros for each button). Open your enchanting window and left-click to highlight the enchant you want to spam, open your bag and mouseover the item you want to enchant.

Click button 1, click button 2, repeat.

Button 1

/click CraftCreateButton

/run GetMouseFoci()[1]:Click()

Button 2

/click StaticPopup1Button1

SM GY Rare Target Macro

Spam click in the outer courtyard and it'll target any rare (if they're there). There's a spawn point in the crypt at the end of the yard; stealth to the middle fountain - if you still don't get a target, there's no rare.
