Periodic damage can now critically strike, giving Affliction a new relationship with critical strike rating and significantly increasing the potential ceiling of DoT based builds.
Bane of Agony replaces the Classic
Curse of Agony name and no longer occupies the traditional Curse category. Bane of Doom similarly replaces
Curse of Doom.
Improved Corruption now reduces
Corruption cast time by 0.4 seconds and increases its damage by 2% per rank. Total of 5 ranks
Affliction gains significantly more support for
Drain Life and
Drain Soul, making channelled drain spells a more important part of the tree.
Demonology places considerably more emphasis on the active demon, with several talents directly scaling the Warlock's power or sustain around the summoned pet.
Destruction receives stronger interaction between its Fire and Shadow abilities, particularly through
Conflagrate and
Shadowburn.
The
Summon Incubus is now treated separate from
Summon Succubus.
Affliction
Affliction receives some of the most meaningful changes in Forever, with greater emphasis on periodic damage, critical strikes and drain based gameplay.
Drain Hope - Drains all hope from the target, dealing 52 Shadow damage every 1 second and increasing all other Shadow damage over time effects you deal to that target by 10% for 6 seconds.
Improved Bane of Agony - Increases the damage dealt by Bane of Agony by 5% per rank.
Improved Drains - Increases the damage dealt or Health drained by
Drain Life and
Drain Soul by 2% for each other Affliction effect active on the target, up to a maximum of 6%. When
Drain Soul damages a target below 20% Health, this bonus is tripled.
Drain Life's range is also increased by 3 yards.
Malediction - Increases all periodic damage dealt by Warlock spells by 1% per rank, up to 5%.
Malevolence - Increases the critical effect chance of Shadow spells by 1% per rank, up to 5%.
Pandemic - Increases the critical strike damage bonus of
Corruption, Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom,
Drain Soul,
Drain Life,
Siphon Life and
Drain Hope by 33% per rank, up to 100%.
Soul Harvesting - When a victim dies while afflicted by
Drain Soul, the Warlock gains Soul Harvest for 10 seconds per rank. Soul Harvest allows Mana to regenerate while casting and increases Mana regeneration by 50% per rank.
Soul Siphon - Increases the rate at which
Drain Life and
Drain Soul deal damage by 17% per rank, while reducing
Drain Life healing by 10% per rank.
These changes give Affliction considerably more interaction between its DoTs and drains than the Classic version. Rather than simply maintaining a collection of debuffs and relying on
Shadow Bolt, the Forever tree encourages Warlocks to build up Affliction effects and then make use of their drain abilities.
Demonology
Demonology becomes even more focused on the relationship between the Warlock and their summoned demon.
Decimation - Reduces the cooldown of
Soul Fire by 45% per rank. Casting
Shadow Bolt or
Searing Pain against a target below the relevant Health threshold increases their damage and causes the next
Soul Fire to have a reduced cast time and require no Soul Shards.
Demonic Aegis - Increases the effectiveness of
Demon Skin and
Demon Armor by 15% per rank.
Demonic Brand - Reduces the threat generated by
Searing Pain and brands the target. The Warlock's pet can then attack the branded target for additional Fire or Shadow damage while generating increased threat.
Demonic Energies - Heals the pet for 8% of the Warlock's spell damage per rank. It also transfers Mana gained through
Life Tap to the summoned demon.
Demonic Knowledge- Increases the Warlock's spell damage and healing by up to 33% of their level per rank while a summoned Demon is active.
Demonic Pact - The Warlock's
Demonic Sacrifice effect is no longer cancelled when a different Demon is summoned. However, resummoning the sacrificed pet still cancels the effect.
Fel Vitality - Increases the maximum Health and Mana of the Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Incubus and Felhunter, while also increasing the Warlock's maximum Mana.
Improved Felhunter - Improves several Felhunter abilities, including Tainted Blood, Devour Magic and Paranoia, while reducing the cooldown of Spell Lock.
Improved Sayaad - Improves the effects of Lash of Pain and Soothing Kiss while also increasing the duration of Seduction and Lesser Invisibility. The talent now applies to both Succubus and Incubus.
The overall direction is clear: Demonology is less about simply taking a generic collection of pet improvements and more about building a specific relationship between the Warlock and their active demon.
Demonic Pact is particularly notable because it allows a Warlock to retain a
Demonic Sacrifice benefit while subsequently summoning another demon, provided the sacrificed pet itself is not resummoned.
The BlizzCon demo did not show a Felguard in the Warlock tree, so the role of Felguard in WoW: Forever should be treated as unresolved rather than assumed.
Destruction
Destruction remains the direct damage tree, but Forever gives it considerably more interaction between Fire and Shadow damage.
Agonizing Flames - Increases the critical strike chance of
Searing Pain by 3% per rank and increases the damage dealt by Destruction spells by 3% per rank.
Bane of Havoc - Afflicts a target for 5 minutes, causing 15% of all damage dealt by the Warlock to other targets to also be dealt to the cursed target. Only one target can be affected by Bane of Havoc per Warlock.
Fire and Brimstone - Increases
Conflagrate's critical strike chance by 8% per rank.
Incinerate - Deals 125–140 Fire damage and deals an additional 25% damage when the target is afflicted by
Immolate.
Molten Skin - Reduces all damage taken by 2% per rank, up to 10%.
Shadow and Flame - Hitting an enemy with
Conflagrate increases Shadow damage dealt by the Warlock, while
Shadowburn increases Fire damage dealt. Higher ranks also increase the chance that
Conflagrate will not consume
Immolate and that
Shadowburn will refund a Soul Shard.
The result is a more interactive Destruction rotation in which Fire and Shadow abilities feed into one another rather than functioning primarily as separate damage schools. Bane of Havoc also gives Destruction an important multi target tool, while Incinerate becomes the new 31 point capstone.
