Demonology Warlock | <Progress> Hadoogin

Updated on Nov 1, 2026
Nov 1, 2026

Overview

Demonology Warlocks now gain access to a new powerful debuff if talented called Demonic Brand alongside Decimation. The exciting new capstone Demonic Pact makes it so you can have an active Demon out while having another sacrificed through Demonic Sacrifice.

Demonology has always been a great leveling spec, as you can just lay back, and let your pet tank while being basically unkillable yourself with Soul Link and multiple Sacrifice with Fel Domination.

Damage Curses became Banes, and each warlock can now use Bane of Agony or Bane of Doom, while also using one utility curse like Curse of the Elements.
DoTs can also crit, which was one of the biggest changes, and added an additional way of scaling DPS.

Summon Voidwalker has been improved, and is now a formidable Tank for your early levels. Then at level 20 you'll also gain access to Summon Succubus. Offering powerful DPS, and once you spec into Demonic Brand it can comfortably tank for you as well.

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Efficient Solo Leveling with strong self-sustain
  • Sustained Damage & High Uptime
  • Top tier raid/group utility providing Healthstones, Soulstones, Curses and cc with Fear and Banish.
  • Damage over time loses value against enemies that die quickly
  • Casting and channeling restrict movement
  • Vulnerable to interrupts while casting key damage spells.

Guide Variants

This is our recommended leveling spec to go for once you respec at level 27. If you don't wish to respec you can just follow this Talent Build, but we would advise using the 'Respec at 27' tab if you want to be more efficient in the earlier levels.

We take Decimation in this build to benefit from the 6% extra damage from Searing Pain or Shadow Bolt when the target is below 35% health, you won't be able to cast Soul Fire at the level we pick the talent which is 37 since the ability is only trainable at 48.

Gameplay & Rotation

Leveling Rotation: 1. Curse of the Elements 2. Corruption 3. Bane of Agony skip this step if the mob dies too fast when you have Demonic Brand 4. Immolate 5. Searing Pain once we unlock Demonic Brand only to buff the pet don't spam it. 5. Wand up to level 25-30 6. When you're low on mana use Life Tap

Pet choices: We use Summon Voidwalker up to level 27 then we utilize Summon Succubus.
When your pet is about to die, just summon a new one. Health Funnel Is really bad early.

Gear

Getting an early Wand is the most important part of starting a new warlock.

These are all viable options on how to acquire one:
1. Buy Lesser Magic Wand on AH for around 5silver
or
1. Buy Lesser Magic Essence from the enchanting vendor for 8 silver. Limited supply
or
1. Get skinning, gather some leather and craft Handstitched Leather Vest with leatherworking, so you can disenchant them. You can also make Brown Linen Pants with tailoring. You will need to make around 7, since non weapons have lower chance to disenchant into Lesser Magic Essence -which we need to make the wand.

2. Level enchanting to 10 with Enchant Bracer - Inferior Stamina and also make one Runed copper rod. Mote of Magic, Copper rod and Simple wood are from the enchanting vendor.
3. Craft Lesser Magic Wand yourself with 1 simple wood from the vendor and one Lesser Magic Essence

If you don't prefer going enchanting there are still other wands out there that you can obtain:
Riptear's Spare Arm - Rear Guard Patrol Quest Horde only from Tirisfal Glades
Deepblaze - Old Ironforge Incursion Halls of Thanes chain from Earthseer Farsen Alliance Only
Cinder Wand - Arugal's Folly Chain from Dalar Dawnweaver in Silverpine Forest Horde only
Spark of the People's Militia - The People's Militia Chain from Gryan in Westfall Alliance only Branding Rod - Isha Awak chain from the barrens starts from Mahren in ratchet Horde only Flaring Baton - The Escape chain from the barrens starts from Wizzlecrank's Shredder Horde only Cookie's Stirring Rod - Drops from Cookie in The Deadmines Spellcrafter Wand - Retrieval for Mauren quest starts from Collin Mauren in Stonetalon Alliance onlyGravestone Scepter - Blackfathom Villainy quest starts inside Blackfathom Deeps for both factions These are not ranked in any order, there are many wands out there as well from quests & especially boe drops so keep an eye out for them!

Weapon upgrades:
Fang of Magmatus - from Hall of Thanes 13-18 Alliance Instance. (18 Spell damage)

Staff of Orgrimmar - From the Hidden enemies chain Horde only. (18 Spell damage)

Gnarled Necromancer's Staff - From Ruins of Lordaeron Instance quest. (26 Spell damage)

2) Collect 1x Large Soran'ruk Fragment - Dropped by Shadowfang Darksouls in Shadowfang keep.
The Orb of Soran'ruk quest rewards you with a choice of Staff of Soran'ruk or Orb of Soran'ruk

Stat Priority

Disclaimer: Not all consumables got discovered yet, this section of the guide will be updated as we find new ones.

Professions

We are expecting Tailoring to have some nice prebis/bis early gear that will be BOP. So we would recommend tailoring.

Second professions is based on your preference and playstyle. If you want to speedrun and minmax, then Engineering will be mandatory due to Goblin Sapper Charge, Thorium Grenade and all other cool gadgets that engineering offers.

You can have First Aid along with the other professions since it is a secondary profession. It will be very useful to bandage while leveling for less downtime and also for end-game content.

Suggested Races

Looking at purely DPS, currently all races are almost equal (less than 0.5% difference) so feel free to choose whichever you like the most or choose based on PvP racial.

For ultra minmax this is the list: Orc = Human = Undead > Gnome > Troll

  • Expansive Mind A passive maximum mana increased by 5%

Brief disclaimer about some races. Eureka! does not benefit our dot effects, Touch of the Grave works ONLY on abilities that are not dots e.g Shadow Bolt initial dot application can proc it, Berserking only effects spellcasting spells and not channeled spells.

Tips & Tricks

Wand is mandatory for early levels. Earlier you get it, the easier it gets.
Don't heal the pet, re-summon a new one. If you took Soul Harvest, use rank 1 Drain Soul to proc it. Managing Fear, Utilize Curse of Recklessness on a feared mob if it took a very bad path. Curse of recklessness makes it so the target will ignore fear and horror effects which makes it very useful if a mob is feared and takes a bad path, press any other curse ability to cancel the fear immunity effect.

Additional Tips

At level 40 we reach the most exciting addition, in Demonic Pact. It lets us use Demonic Sacrifice on our Demon to get its benefits and then use another Demon too. There are quite some crazy combinations, but for leveling we believe by far the strongest is sacrificing a Felhunter and using Succubus as your main pet. At this stage we also become basically unkillable with 30% damage reduction from Soul Link and 3% of your hp regen every 4 sec, while your Succubus is doing crazy dps.

After Demonic Pact we have an option to go full dps and spend rest of the points in destruction to unlock Agonizing Flames which synergizes very well with Demonic Brand.
Other option is to go for comfort, hit chance (which will start becoming noticeable at these levels), mana and cast range.

Its up to you in which order you reach these talents. We would recommend Improved Corruption first and then any of these Suppression, Grim Reach, Bane, Destructive Reach Cataclysm Improved Life Tap or even Molten Skin for PvPers.
