PoE 2 Liquid Emotions and Amulet Anoints

Overview

In Path of Exile 2, you can find items called Liquid Emotions from the Delirium league mechanic. Liquid Emotions can be found in a variety of types and can be used in combinations to add powerful Enchantments to Amulets as well as increase the difficulty and rewards of your Waystones.

Even though the word "instil" is used in Path of Exile 2, the word "anoint" will be used interchangeably with it since this was the wording used in Path of Exile 1 for the same mechanic

Changes in Patch 0.3

Before patch 0.3, Liquid Emotions were known as "Distilled Emotions", so some wording from images may have changed. The three lowest tiers of Liquid Emotions are now known as "Diluted Liquid Emotions" while the three highest tiers are known as "Concentrated Liquid Emotions" to help distinguish their tier

Acquiring Liquid Emotions

Liquid Emotions will drop at the end of Delirium encounters in Waystones and can also be found in Simulacrums. As you slay more monsters within the Delirium fog, a Rewards Counter will slowly fill up, increasing the number of Liquid Emotions that drop at the end of the encounter.

Of course, if you are playing Trade League, you can also make use of the Currency Exchange Market to purchase any Liquid Emotions you may need

Upgrading Liquid Emotions

Liquid Emotions can also be upgraded from one Tier to the next through use of the Reforging Bench. Placing three of one type and hitting Reforge will grant you one Liquid Emotion of the next highest tier

Upgrading three Liquid Ire into one Liquid Guilt.

Note: you can place three of one Liquid Emotion type into the same box instead of one in each of the three boxes to Reforge them

The Reforging Bench can be acquired by completing the Molten Vault in Act 3 (found inside The Drowned City). This Bench as well as other important permanent buffs and upgrades can be found throughout the campaign, so try to learn their locations: PoE 2 Campaign Bonuses and Permanent Buffs

Amulet Anoints

Liquid Emotions can be used in specific combinations to instil an Amulet with a Notable Passive Skill. Not all Notable Passive Skills can be instilled, but the vast majority can be. You may hear some players refer to this as an "Amulet Anoint" instead of "Amulet Instil" due to the word "Anoint" being used in Path of Exile 1 for the same mechanic

Which Notables Use Which Liquid Emotions?

In order to see which combination of Liquid Emotions are required to instil an Amulet, simply head to your Passive Skill Tree (P), and hover over any Notable Passive Skill and press Alt. This will bring up an image of which Liquid Emotions are required to instil that specific Notable with additional information of the Liquid Emotion names written in grey at the bottom of the Notable Passive Skill box

How to Instil an Amulet

Now that you know which Notable Passive you wish to instil, or anoint, on your Amulet, simply Right-Click any Liquid Emotion in your inventory. This will bring up the Instiling window

In the Instilling window, the top box is used to place any Amulet and the bottom three for the Liquid Emotions of your choosing.

Let's say we want to instil Sharpened Claw. This requires an Ire, Greed, Greed combination of Liquid Emotions. Place these Liquid Emotions in the appropriate order by Ctrl-Clicking them from your inventory and hit Instil if you'd like to confirm the instilment.

The Liquid Emotions will be consumed and the Amulet will be instilled with the specific Notable. If you check your Passive Skill Tree, you will see it allocated (it will be in full colour instead of being greyed out).

Great Budget Anoints/Instilments

Sirgog has an excellent guide listing out a number of cheap options for very powerful Amulet instilments. This list covers options for all build types and is a fantastic resource for players feeling overwhelmed by the number of potential options. Click the link below to check it out!

Can You Change Your Amulet Instil?

Amulet instilments can be changed at any time by repeating the above process. Amulets can only have one instilment at a time, so this will overwrite any existing Amulet instilment it may already have.

Can You Anoint Corrupted Amulets?

At the time of writing (Patch 0.2.0h), Corrupted Amulets cannot be instilled. However, any existing instilments will remain on Amulets that are Corrupted with a Vaal Orb. It is possible that in future patches, a special Liquid Emotion will be added to allow for further instilment of Corrupted Amulets, but that mechanic doesn't exist currently.

Instilling Waystones

Waystones can also be instilled with Liquid Emotions, increasing their difficulty and reward. Many players may refer to this as "Anointing Maps" or "Adding Deli" to their Maps (as in adding Delirium to their Waystones).

How Do You Apply Liquid Emotions to Waystones?

Applying Delirium to your Waystones with Liquid Emotions is the same as the method used to apply an anoint to your Amulet. Simply right-click a Liquid Emotion in your inventory, place a Map in the top slot and up to three Liquid Emotions in the bottom slots. Clicking the button will apply the Liquid Emotion effect to your Waystone, along with a certain amount of Delirious effect to players who enter that Waystone.

Liquid Emotions and Waystones

Each Liquid Emotion applied to a Waystone will add a specific bonus as well as a certain amount of Deliriousness to Players in that area. Delirious will be explained in a section below, but for now, let's look at the effects of each Liquid Emotion

Multiples of the same Liquid Emotion can be used on the same Waystone to increase the bonus and Delirious Effect on it. The bonuses will only apply to that specific Waystone.

Any Waystone opened that has been affected by Liquid Emotions will be covered in a persistent Delirium fog that will never dissipate, and the usual Reward Bar that fills up as monsters are slain will not be present. However, Simulacrum Splinters can still be obtained and item drops will be improved.

What is Delirious Effect in PoE 2?

Delirious Effect increases the difficulty and reward of monsters in that area. The higher the effect of Delirious on players, the stronger and more of the following effects will occur:

  • Delirious players will be attacked by illusions
  • Monsters deal more damage
  • Monsters have additional Toughness, causing them to take less damage
  • Additional monsters will appear
  • Monsters may be granted additional modifiers
  • Monster item drops are improved

Overall, adding Delirium to your maps with Liquid Emotions will make them much more difficult, so be careful not to overdo it initially with too many high-level Liquid Emotions such as Liquid Isolation. An increase of player Deliriousness will improve your drops, but could result in you failing your Map.
