Major Changes!

GGG completely overhauled the Simulacrum in patch 0.3.0

This article has been rewritten based upon item listings visible in trade league and initial tests that are fairly small sample sizes.

This method is less accurate than compilations of thousands of runs; as a result, expect changes in the near future.

About the Simulacrum

During in-map Delirium events in high level Waystones, you will be rewarded with Simulacrum Splinters. 50, 100 or 150 of these allow you to access the Simulacrum, which is done in the Realmgate on the Atlas. Using larger numbers of splinters makes the fights considerably harder, adding 20% delirium to each wave, pushing it to 115% in the final wave of the 150 splinter version.

The Simulacrum is a series of 15 combat encounters that take place in a replica of a POE2 town. Each fight is typically harder than the last.

After each encounter you will receive a number of Distilled Emotions based upon the number and power of the monsters you killed. From 0.3.0 onward, these appear to bias toward rarer Distilled Emotions in the 150 splinter version.

Upon completing all 15, you will receive an additional unique item exclusive to the Simulacrum.

All Simulacrum uniques can be found in all difficulties, but higher difficulties very aggressively bias the drops toward certain items.

Distilled Emotion Drop Rates

It's not uncommon to get 70 or more Distilled Emotion drops from a full Simulacrum.

These are the current estimates for the relative drop rates.

Especially for Despair, Fear, Suffering and Isolation, these drop rates may not be overly accurate as they are based upon only a few thousand total emotion drops.

This table assumes you get 72 total Distilled Emotion drops across the 15 waves, which is not guaranteed. The faster you kill monsters, the more rewards you will earn, but there are sharp diminishing returns.

Unique Item Overview

The Simulacrum can drop the following items:

Assailum - This is the most common item from the Simulacrum at all difficulties.

Perfidy - This is second most common at all difficulties.

Melting Maelstrom - This is considered a chase item by players, as it is extremely powerful. It can drop on all difficulties.

Collapsing Horizon and Strugglescream - These items are known to be able to drop on Sifficulty 3 and 4, and suspected to be able to drop on Difficulty 2. Both are quite rare.

Megalomaniac - Two Enchant Version

Megalomaniac - Three Enchant Version

Tangmazu's Reliquary Key - this almost always awards Melting Maelstrom; the lucky player may see Megalomaniac with two enchants, and seeing Megalomaniac with three enchants is a miraculous result but a possible one.

Drop rates are estimates based on runs compiled by the Discord community Prohibited Library, and an assessment of item availability at various item levels in trade league.

Drop Rates: 50 splinter version

Data isn't provided as percentages due to the small sample sizes. The most is known about the 150 splinter version.

Assailum, Perfidy - both very common

Melting Maelstrom - interestingly for an item that can be quite good, this is MORE common at the 50 splinter difficulty than it is at higher difficulties. Uncommon.

Collapsing Horizon - Rare

Strugglescream, Megalomaniac with 2 enchants - Very rare (well under 2%)

Megalomaniac with 3 enchants - Unbelievably rare (might be rarer than 1 in 1000)

Drop Rates - 100 Splinter Version

Data here is the least accurate. Few players run this, most favoring the 150 splinter version.

Assailum - very common, but rarer than 50 splinter version

Perfidy, Melting Maelstrom - substantially rarer than the 50 splinter version. This is mostly a positive: these items, while potentially useful, mostly 'clog up' the loot table

Collapsing Horizon - Still rare, but about 3 times as common as 50 splinter version. If you want this item, spend 100 or 150 splinters each run.

Strugglescream, Megalomaniac with 2 enchants - 2½-3 times as common as 50 splinter version, still rare

Megalomaniac with 3 enchants - Unbelievably rare, but more than 3 times as common as 50 splinter version.

Drop Rates, 150 Splinter Version

Assailum: Substantially rarer than 50 and 100 splinter versions. 25-35%

,Perfidy: Substantially rarer than 50 and 100 splinter versions. 16-25%

Melting Maelstrom - Substantially rarer than the 50 and 100 splinter versions, around 10%

Collapsing Horizon - Much more common than at lower splinter counts, around 15-20%

Strugglescream - Still very rare, under 5% (much more common than the 50 splinter version)

, Megalomaniac with 2 enchants - An estimated 10 times as common as at the 100 splinter verison, although this is still not overly common. Around 15%.

Megalomaniac with 3 enchants - An even bigger jump up in frequency than the 2 enchant version sees. Around 2%.

Tangmazu's Reliquary Keys are quite rare but more information is required to make a preliminary estimate of drop rate. Definitely under 10% at all difficulties.

Summary

The 150 splinter version biases toward Collapsing Horizon, Strugglescream and Megalomaniac, all of which remain pretty rare. Many drops that would have been Assailum, Perfidy or Melting Maelstrom instead become one of those three items at higher difficulties.

Distilled emotions get better on higher difficulties, but not by a lot.
