Overview

Today's Path of Exile 2 Trade Guide covers the Currency Exchange which is an in-game tool used to quickly trade stackable Currency items between you and other players.

This guide is part of a series on the PoE 2 trade system. If you'd like to learn more, check out our Trade Site Guide and Trading Guide

Currency Exchange

The Currency Exchange is a fairly straightforward tool that allows you to exchange Currency of one type to another, instantly with other players. You cannot trade equippable items such as Weapons or Body Armour with the Currency Exchange and will instead need to use the Trade Site and your Stash Tabs to do that

Currency Exchange Location

The Currency Exchange can be found by speaking to these NPCs in town and selecting "Currency Exchange"

  • Act 1 - Clearfell Encampment: Finn
  • Act 2 - The Ardura Caravan: Risu
  • Act 3 - Ziggurat Refuge: Alva
  • Endgame and Hideout: Alva

Currency Exchange Window

Upon opening the Currency Exchange, you'll be met by a window that allows you to select items "I Have" on the right, and items "I Want" on the left.

Clicking the "I Have" section of the window will bring up a new window showing you all the different Currency types you own which you can use to purchase other Currency types from other players.

Tabs

There is also a set of tabs on the left that allow you to further specify the item types available.

  • Owned: Shows all Currency Market-tradable items you own
  • Currency: Only shows basic Currency items such as Chaos Orbs, Exalted Orbs and Divine Orbs
  • Delirium: Shows Distilled Emotions, Simulacrum Splinters and Simulacrums
  • Breach: Shows Breach Splinters, Breachstones, and Catalysts
  • Fragments: Shows Ritual Fragments, Ultimatum Fragments and Pinnacle Fragments
  • Expedition: Shows Artifacts and Exotic Coinage
  • Essences: Shows Essences and Greater Essences
  • Runes: Shows socketable Runes
  • Omens: Shows Omens, which can be acquired through Ritual
  • Soul Cores: Shows Soul Cores which can be acquired through the Trial of Chaos

Generally, it's easiest to just leave this on "Owned", but you can look at and learn about different item types that you might not own through the Currency Exchange.

At the bottom, there is also a search box which can be accessed by clicking the box itself, or by pressing ctrl-f. In here you can type the name of the item you want to find, or a keyword that forms part of the description of the item you want, to highlight it.

The "aos orb" typed in the search box forms part of the word "Chaos Orb". This demonstrates that you don't need to type the full word to have it highlighted by the search. The other items that show up do so because part of their description includes the word "Chaos Orb"

Once you have selected the Currency you have that you wish to trade with, simply click it. Let's say we selected Exalted Orb

Setting Your Rate

Now you need to select the Currency type you want. Let's say that we are looking to buy 1 Divine Orb for our Exalted Orbs. Simply click the Divine Orb and you'll be presented with an automatic ratio of Divine to Exalted Orbs based on the going rate of the market

The numbers will show in grey as a suggested rate, and you can click the box and click anywhere else within the window to set this as your rate. The text should now appear in bold colour to show that this is the rate with which you are going to make your purchase.

Now, all you need to do is click the Place Order button. Take note that just above that button, there is a Gold cost tied to the trade. The amount of Gold required to make the exchange is based on the size of the trade and the rarity of the items involved. More common items will be cheaper to exchange than more rare and expensive ones.

Once you have clicked the Place Order button, if your rate was within the common exchange rate, you should instantly receive your Divine Orb. The order will now show in colour with a highlighted border and text stating "Order Completed" below. You can now click the Divine Orb and place it into your inventory.

If the Currency Exchange is able to find a better rate than the one you listed, you may even receive some Gold and Currency back. However, you will never receive more than you tried to buy.

If your order is still pending, it will show as "Order Listed" with your Currency in colour and the Currency you are trying to buy in greyscale. If at any point you wish to cancel your order, you can click the small X to the right of your Currency, allowing you to retrieve the Currency that you were trying to buy with.

Do note: the Gold that you used to purchase the item will be lost even if you cancel this order.

Important: People tend buy and sell items with Exalted Orbs, Divine Orbs and Chaos Orbs, so you'll find trades faster using these. However, you can always try your luck by using less common Currency types to make exchanges with more favourable rates.

Market Ratio

At the top of the Currency Exchange window, you can also hover over the Market Ratio and press Alt to see more information about Available Trades and Competing Trades, allowing you to further play the Market to try to get the best deal possible

Quality of Life

There are some clever tricks you can use to transfer Currency to and from the Currency Exchange window more efficiently

  • Ctrl + Left-Click to move a stack of Currency to your inventory
  • Ctrl + Right-Click to move all stacks to your inventory
  • Left-Click the centre of an order to view that market
  • Ctrl + Left-Click on the X to close your order without being prompted

From your inventory you can also:

  • Ctrl + Left-Click on an item to assign it as the "I Have" item
  • Ctrl + Shift + Left-Click on an item in your inventory to assign it as the "I Want" item
  • Ctrl + Left-Click on the "I Have" or "I Want" item to view the other side of that market

You can find more information on the Currency Exchange by clicking the i at the top left of the window to learn more
