Overview

Today’s guide will take you through the basics of the Path of Exile 2 Trade Site to help you find the items you want more easily, and price check the ones you've found. This guide will also teach you how to use Stash Tabs to list items you wish to sell to other players on the Trade Site

If you would like to read about the Currency Exchange mechanic which allows you to buy and sell commonly used Currency and consumable items with other players, check the guide here: ]link will be provided once guide has been completed]

The Trade Site can be found at: https://www.pathofexile.com/trade2/search/poe2/Standard

Path of Exile 2 Trade Site Explained

The first time you open Path of Exile 2's Trade Site, it can be overwhelming, but after this guide, you'll feel more confident using it. Many of the extra sections will be hidden but can be expanded by clicking the button to the left of the words to reveal additional boxes to improve your search:

Let's break it down section by section.

Search Bar, Type Filters and Stat Filters

Search Bar

At the top of the Trade Site, you will see a search bar with the words "Search Items...". In this section, you can type the exact name of any item in the game that you wish to buy, from Uniques, to Currency Orbs, to item base types.

League Selection

To the right of the main Search Bar you can select the League in which you are playing. This defaults to Standard but can be changed to Hardcore or another League of your choosing

Online Only

Allows you to only show results from people who are currently online and in game, but can be changed to show results from offline players too

Type Filters

Item Category

In this section, you can select the item base type you're searching for. For example, you could add in "Two-Handed Mace" to only show results for that item type

Item Rarity

Allows you to only bring up results for items of a specific Rarity. This can be useful either to find Unique items, or if you're looking for a Weapon with certain mods, but need it to be Magic Rarity because you intend to use a Greater Essence on it

Item Level and Item Quality

These fields allow you to specify a minimum and/or maximum Item Level and Quality range for search results. This can be helpful when searching for item bases that have to be a specific Item Level to be able to attain certain mod tiers, or perhaps you're looking for a Skill Gem that already has 20% Quality before you buy it

Stat Filters

The Stat Filters section is the most important section of the Trade Site as it allows you to search for exact modifiers you want. Knowing how to use this section will make you able to find the exact items you want far more easily, as well as price-check items you have found and want to sell.

Clicking "+ ADD STAT FILTER" allows you to select any item modifier in the entire game. If you're searching for a new pair of Boots and need Movement Speed, Maximum Life, Fire Resistance and Cold Resistsance, you can add in each of these modifiers to show results that match your criteria. You can type in the modifier name to bring it up, or scroll through the list of mods and click the one you want.

You can also specify a minimum and/or maximum value range for each of these mods, so if you need exactly 37% Fire Resistance to make sure you're Resistance-capped in game, you can add this value

FUZZY SEARCH

THE MOST IMPORTANT TRADE SITE TIP OF ALL!

The PoE 2 Trade Site defaults to a very strict search -- if you don't type the exactly correct word or word order into any of the fields, no results will show up. However, you can force a "fuzzy search" by typing a tilde (~) at the start of any search to have results show up even if you don't get the exact order of words correct.

For example, if you wanted to search for Fire Resistance, instead of typing "Fire Resistance" you could type ~res fire. If you wanted to find Movement Speed you could even type something as simple as ~ent spe. This can also be applied to the Search Items field at the top to bring up specific items that you may not remember the exact wording for.

Stat Groups

To the right of Stat Filters, you will see a little box with a small pencil icon in the top right corner. Clicking this will bring up fields that allow you to further specify your search. You can add multiple Stat Groups to a single item search, allowing for very specific searches

And: Suggests "And I want ALL of these modifiers on my item". The Stat Filters defaults to this

Not: Will prevent any items with the selected modifiers from showing up in your search results. This can also be quite useful

If: Will show items with this modifier but only IF it has modifiers within the range specified. For example, "I want Fire Resistance but only IF it has 20-30% Fire Resistance, otherwise don't worry about it and show me items with all the other modifiers I want too"

Count: Allows you to specify that you want to find items with either a minimum number of selected modifiers, or maximum number of selected modifiers. For example, you might be searching for Jewel and there could be a dozen different modifiers that are useful to you. By adding all of these dozen mods to the Stat Filter and then selecting "Count" and setting the Minimum to 2, all search results would bring up items with at least 2 of the desired modifiers

Weighted Sum and Weighted Sum V2: This is a much more advanced Stat Group that will allow you maximum control, but won't be useful to the majority of new players. GGG themselves explained it best: "Adding a Weight number to an item will add a multiplier to its range which you can use to either search for a specified Weighted Sum or sort into a sum of your choice (after you've confirmed the search).

For example, adding a Weight of 1 to +# total to Strength would mean +10 to Strength would be 10 towards your Weighted Sum. Adding a Weight of 2 to +# total to Dexterity means +10 to Dexterity would be 20 towards your Weighted Sum and etc."

Remember that you can combine multiple Stat Filters together to further specify the item you want to see. For example, you might have a search that suggests "I want Boots with at least 100 Maximum Life, 25% increased Movement Speed and then two Resistances of at least 25%, but it doesn't matter exactly which Resistances" which might look something like this:

Equipment Filters and Requirements

The Equipment Filters section allows you to specify Damage and Defense ranges on items that you search for, as well as if they have any empty sockets.

Damage and Damage Per Second: allows you to specify the the Damage per Second an item does without specifying the type of Damage. For example, adding in a minimum of 500 here will bring up items that may have a blend of Physical and Elemental Damage.

Attacks Per Second and Critical Chance: allows you to specify a Weapon's Attack Speed and Critical Chance, after being affected by modifiers. This is a good way to search for items with specific values of these stats without having to search them individually in the Stat Filters section

Physical and Elemental DPS: allows you to search for items with Damage per Second but only of a specific Damage type.

Armour, Evasion, Block, Energy Shield, Spirit: allows you to search for items with a specific amount of these modifier values. The results will include results that includes the base value, local modifiers and maximum Quality

Empty Rune Sockets: allows you to specify whether or not an item has Sockets and to ensure that they're empty so you can place a Rune you'd like to use inside them.

Requirements

The Requirements section allows you to specify minimum and maximum value ranges for items in your searches with regards to their Level, Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence requirements. This can be very useful when searching for low level gear for a new character, where you want to ensure all search results will be usable by that character.

Waystone Filters

The Waystone Filters section currently offers a limited search functionality that allows you to specify the minimum and maximum Tier of Waystones, as well as the Waystone Drop Chance of a Waystone that shows up in your search results.

The Waystone Drop Chance section can be useful for finding Waystones that have been made Rare and Corrupted to have very high Waystone Drop Chance

Miscellaneous and Trade Filters

Miscellaneous

The Miscellaneous section allows you to further specify less common, but still useful, search results.

Gem Level, and Gem Sockets: allows you to add in minimum and maximum value ranges for the Gem Level and Gem Sockets. This can be useful if you're specifically searching for a perfect Skill Gem that has 5 Sockets and is Level 20, or for a lower Level Skill Gem that your character can use.

Below, there is also a section for Corrupted, so you can further improve your search to make sure that no Gems that show up are already Corrupted

Area Level: allows you to search for items such as Waystones or Djinn Baryas with a specific Area Level range

Stack Size: allows you to search for a specific amount of a certain stackable item. For example, if you need 10 Simulacrum Splinters to finish your Simulacrum, you could set the minimum to 10 to make sure all sellers that show up in the results meet this requirement

Mirrored, Alternate Art: specifies whether the item has been Mirrored or has alternate art. This currently doesn't serve much purpose in Path of Exile 2, but could at a later stage as foil Uniques are introduced, or more sources of Mirrored items appear

Barya Sacred Water and Unidentified Tier: seem to lack functionality at this point

Trade Filters

The Trade Filters section allows you to further specify details of the trade listing itself more than the item being listed

Seller Account: allows you to search for items listed by a specific player account. If you're looking for an item your friend is selling, typing in their account name here will only show results of items they have listed for trade

Collapse Listings by Account: will show limited results per selected account

Listed: allows you to search for items that were put up for trade within a specific time frame. This can be very useful to weed out any old listings made by players who leave items in tabs and never intend to sell them. Searching for items listed more recently is a good way to get more responses to your trade requests

Sale Type: allows you to show results for items listed for a fixed or negotiable price, as well as items that have been listed for trade with no price

Buyout Price: allows you to show results for items that have been listed for a specific Currency type as well as a minimum and maximum value. For example, you may search for a Headhunter Leather Belt and try your luck to see if anyone has listed one for 10 Divine Orbs. It's unlikely, but this can be useful for only showing results that you can afford to buy

Search Results Page

Once you have executed a search, a number of results will show up that match the parameters you set.

The numbers on the left of the item modifiers displays their tiers and you can also hover over each mod to see their value range within the tier, along with the mod name to the right. Any mod name that appears as a noun is a prefix, and any that appears as "of the something" is a suffix.

Further to the right, you will see the item price, the name of the account that listed the item, and whether or not that player is Online, AFK or Offline.

There is also a button to Direct Whisper the player: clicking the Direct Whisper button will instantly send an in-game message to that player telling them that you want to buy their item for the listed price.

There is also a small drop down arrow to the right of the Direct Whisper button that allows you to Copy Whisper - this will copy the trade message onto your clipboard so you can send it in game with some adjustments. However, it is considered very bad etiquette to change the value of a listed item using this method and can be considered scamming and is likely to result in you being blocked by the other player. Use this function to add extra information to the trade message such as asking if they'd accept a different amount of Currency or a different type of Currency for the item.

If you'd like to sort item from highest price to lowest, beside the Exact Price of the item, you can click the small orange arrow next to three small lines

You can also adjust the layout of the Results page by clicking the small white boxes below the Show Filters box at the top right to change the layout to a more compact, or dual-column compact view.

Activate Live Search

To the top left of the search results, you'll see a button that says "Activate Live Search". Pressing this button will notify you when any new results that match your search show up on the Trade Site. This can be a great way to try to find good deals or just not miss out on any highly specific items that you're desperately looking for

Bulk Search

At the top left of the Trade Site window, to the right of Search Listed Items, you can find a Bulk Item Exchange tab. This allows you to search for more commonly used, consumable items such as Currency, Fragments, Runes, Essences and more.

With the introduction of the in-game Currency Exchange, this section of the site isn't as necessary as it once was, but it still can be used to find larger bulk from specific sellers, or to find better deals than those on the Currency Exchange.

The panel to the left shows you "Items I Want" and to the right "Items I Have". It's more likely to find results for items when listing "Items I Have" for commonly used ones such as Exalted Orbs and Chaos Orbs, but you can always try your luck in case someone is selling something for a less commonly used Currency.

It is possible to make multiple selections in both categories to bring up more results or to possibly find better deals for less common market rates.

Seller Filters

Similar to the main Trade page, the Bulk Item Exchange has some filters that will allow you to further refine your search. Seller Account does the same thing as on the main page, but just below that we have the most important option: Stock Count.

Stock Count allows you to specify a minimum and maximum amount to appear in the search results. For example, if you really need 500 Chaos Orbs immediately, you can set the minimum to 500 to filter out any sellers with less than this amount of stock.

Group By Seller is actually much more useful on this page as it allows you to bring up multiple search results from the same person. If you're looking for a full set of boss Fragments, you could click all of the ones you want, set Group By Seller to "Yes" to bring up multiple results from the same account, so you can buy everything you need from the same place instead of making multiple trades.

Settings Page

Settings Page

Lastly, there is a Settings Page that can be found at the top right of the Trade Site window that brings up various options.

Under Account Settings, you can set your Online Status to various options.

  • Show My Status: Will show if you are Online or AFK in the current League in which you are playing, but show you as Offline for items you have listed in other Leagues.
  • Show My Status on All Leagues: Will show if you are Online or not, regardless of in which League you are playing. This means that if you have an item listed in Hardcore League but are currently playing in Standard League, it will show you as Online to any players who are making trade searches in Hardcore League.
  • Appear Offline: will allow you to play in peace and not receive any trade offers in game while Online.

Whisper Language: keep this to the default as it will automatically translate any trade messages you send to other players into their language of choice

Search Settings

The Search Settings allows you to adjust the appearance of the Trade Site to add controls to the top and bottom of the page, display socket notches as well as adjust the notification sound for any results that show up while conducting a Live Search

Ignore List

To the right of the Account and Search Settings, you will see your Ignore List. This section lists all players you have ignored and allows you to unignore them by clicking the X to the right of their account name, or remove all ignores by clicking the large Remove All button just above the list of names

How to Sell Items

Selling Items

Of course you will also want to sell the items you find on the Trade Site and this can be done easily in-game by using any Premium Stash Tab that you own.

One of the most important functions of all Premium Stash Tabs is the ability to set them to "Public" and adding prices to the contained items so that they can be listed for sale on the Trade Site. While it is possible to list items for Trade in basic Tabs, this is a fairly complex process that will be covered in another guide. For now, this section focuses on Premium and Special Tabs which make listing items for trade very simple.

In order to make a Tab Public, right click the Tab nameplate and check the "Public" circle. A dropdown box will appear to the right allowing a few things:

1. Each Item Individually Priced: Allows you to specify the exact price of an item within the Tab for an exact price.

2. Set Negotiable Price On All Items: Allows you to set the same price for all items contained within the Tab, and also shows the item on the Trade Site as being open for negotiation on the price.

3. Set Exact Price On All Items: Allows you to set the same price on all items within the Tab, and shows an exact price on the Trade Site for those items. This is a popular option for players who have dozens of Tabs who want to be able to have Tabs prepared for items of a certain value so they can sell them more quickly without having to first manually list the price. For example, a player might have various Tabs with set prices like "1 Exalted, 5 Exalted, 10 Exalted, 20 Exalted, 50 Exalted" and so on, so that they can place items that they deem to be of that value, in that Tab, without manually adding the price each time.

Individual Pricing

Once a Tab is set to Public, and "Each Item Individually Priced", item prices can be specified by right-clicking on the item, selecting either "Exact Price" or "Negotiable Price", then selecting a value and the Currency type you wish to sell the item for. The number can also contain decimals, such as "1.5 Exalted Orbs". Of course, 0.5 Exalted Orbs doesn't exist, and usually this decimal implies a certain amount of additional lower-value Currency as well as the 1 full Exalted Orb, such as 1 Exalted Orb and 2 Regal Orbs as an example.

The note at the bottom stating "Exact Price: 55x Mirror of Kalandra" lets you know that the item has been publicly listed for trade on the Trade Site.

Do Not Index

This function allows you to have an item in a Public Tab, but prevent it from being listed on the Trade Site. This is useful when you're still trying to determine the value of an item you want to sell, or aren't certain if you want to sell it yet.

Notes

You can also add Notes to items. This can be useful to have additional information about an item, such as who it belongs to or why you have it. However, you can also use Notes to add prices to items without clicking any buttons if you know the code to do so.

For example instead of manually clicking the dropdowns and boxes to add a 4 Orbs of Alchemy price to an item, you could instead type the following in the Notes: ~price 4 alch

For now, I won't list the shorthand for every possible situation, but if you wish to learn it, you can set an item to a specific price the usual way, then right-click it again and select Note from the dropdown box to see the text that appears that the game uses to list your item on the Trade Site.

Bulk Listing

You can also list stackable items, such as Currency Orbs or Essences, for a specific rate. If you have 3 Essences, you can indicate that you want 4 Orbs of Alchemy for all of them by typing the quantity of what you want, followed by the amount you have, separated by a slash. That sounded confusing, but remember it like this:

Price/Quantity

3/4 - Your 3 Orbs of Alchemy for My 4 Essences

Trade Etiquette

The final topic is to do with trade etiquette. Over the last decade of Path of Exile, many norms have been established, and breaking these can be seen as very rude.

1. When you message a player to buy an item, it is customary for you to wait for them to invite you to their party. Never invite a seller to your party even if they aren't responding to you

2. When buying an item, it is customary for the buyer to travel to the seller's Hideout

3. Once in the same instance as another player that you wish to trade with, it is customary for the seller to send the Trade Request to the buyer. This is often because the seller may still be looking for the item that you want to buy and it can be seen as rude and impatient to send a Trade Request to the seller

4. Say "Thanks", "TY" or some other form of thanks after completing a trade. Often player will say "SS" or "Stay Safe" in Hardcore Leagues

5. Never adjust the price in a trade message to try to trick the other person into selling the item to you for less than they had it listed for

6. If it is too much effort to leave a Waystone to make a sale because the amount of Currency you have listed it for isn't worth your time, UNLIST the item. It is incredibly frustrating for players to have to message a dozen players before getting a response because players have listed items that they are too busy to sell.

7. Once a trade is complete, leave the other person's Hideout as soon as possible.

8. Do not enter another player's Portals without their permission, and do not make loud noises with any Skills or MTX while in their space
