Overview

In the previous PoE 2 Trading Guide, we covered the Trade Site and how to buy and sell items. This guide will cover the actual process of executing a trade with another player.

Trading With Other Players

If you're not familiar with how to find an item you want to buy, check out our Trade Site Guide first.

Trade Requests

After messaging a player for an item you wish to buy, they hopefully will invite you to their party. This will show up as a notification on the right side of your screen stating the other player has sent you a party invite which you can Accept or Decline.

This popup will last a few seconds, but if you miss it, you can always open the Social window ("J" by default), navigate to the "Create Party" tab and see your received invitations.

If you are the player selling an item and another player messages you to buy it, this will show up as a message in the chat window, which you can press the Enter button to expand, and then right click on the purple text and select the option to Invite to Party

This message will include information about the item the other player wants to buy, the name of the Stash Tab in which you have it and its location within that Tab. The item the other player wants to buy will also be highlighted in your Stash Tab with a purple border to help you find it more easily

Trading With Another Player

Upon accepting a party invitation, the other player's nameplate and picture will now show up in your party on the left hand side of the screen. While you are in different areas, their nameplate will appear in greyscale, but in colour when you are in the same area.

In the bottom left corner of the player's nameplate you will see a small blue icon with a swirl pattern in it. Clicking this icon will instantly teleport you to that player's location, or their hideout if they are currently in a Waystone.

You can also right-click on another player's picture to bring up further options that allow you to "Whisper This Player" (send them a message), visit their hideout, ignore them, report them or leave the party.

If you have received a message or messaged the player, you can press Enter to open the chat window and right click their name to bring up similar options

You will need to be in the same area as another player to trade with them, so let's click that little blue button to visit this other exile.

You'll now notice that the player's nameplate is in full colour, meaning you are in the same area.

There are few ways to initiate a trade with the other player from this point:

  • Right-click the player's nameplate and select "Trade"

  • Right-click the actual player model and select "Trade"

  • Right-click text sent to or from that player and select "Trade"

However, remember that if you are the player buying, it is polite to wait for the seller to send you the trade offer rather than the other way around. Often, the seller needs a bit of extra time to find the item they are selling and having the buyer send the trade request can be seen as impolite.

If you receive a trade invite, it will pop up on the right side of your screen, similar to a party invite

If you are the player sending the trade request, a window will pop up in the middle of the screen letting you know the trade request has been sent and is now pending while waiting for the other player to accept the request

When a trade request has been accepted by either player, a trade window will pop up, in which you can place items. The window at the bottom is for your items, and the panel at the top is for the other player's items.

Once another player places an item in the trade window, it will appear as greyed out until you hover over it. This is a way of forcing players to confirm that the trade they are making is correct. It is common for some players to attempt to scam others by placing incorrect Currency types into the trade window to try catch unwitting players off guard.

Once you have moused over the other player's items and are happy with it, you can hit the "Accept" button which will place a green border around the trade window of the player who pressed Accept first. This is your final chance to make certain the items you are buying or selling are correct before the trade is completed.

Once both players have hit the Accept button, the trade will be completed, and a small text popup on the left side of the screen will alert you to this. However, if a trade is cancelled for any reason, a similar notification will pop up saying "Trade Cancelled"

Trade Quality of Life

There are a few shortcuts you can use while trading to help make the experience easier

  1. You can Ctrl-click and item from your inventory to place it into the trade window instantly
  2. You can separate stacks of Currency and other stackable items by Shift-clicking them in your inventory to select how many to place into the trade window

3. You can Ctrl-Alt click an item to link it to the last messaged player

Avoiding Scams

Unfortunately, it is common for some dishonest exiles to attempt to swindle their fellow players out of their hard-earned Currency. This section will cover how to avoid being scammed by other players.

  1. Always make sure that the Currency type the other player is offering is the correct type. It's common for players to place Exalted Orbs in the windows instead of Divine Orbs to try to get the item for cheaper than it is worth
  2. Always make sure the item you are buying is the correct item. Sometimes players will place a similar-looking item, or possibly the same Unique item with the incorrect modifiers into the trade window. For example, you might want to buy a Level 20 Skill Gem and the player might place a Level 1 Skill Gem in the window, hoping you don't notice. Pay attention!
  3. Always make sure the amount is correct. It is possible for players to place the correct Currency type in the window, but the incorrect amount. This is especially common in big trades where hundreds of Exalts or Divines are being exchanged and a few stacks might be short of being full
  4. Take your time: there is no rush. If you need a few extra seconds to confirm that what you are buying is correct, that's absolutely fine. With the huge influx of new Path of Exile 2 players, it is understandable that people might take longer to do things. As you become more experienced, you'll become faster.

In Conclusion

Trading is a huge part of Path of Exile 2. Some people love playing the market, others avoid it at all costs. If you'd like to learn more about how to list items to trade and and use the Trade Site, check out our guide here
