Overview

Delirium is a league mechanic that you will encounter in Waystones that offers some exciting rewards at the cost of a deadly challenge.

Completing Delirium Encounters will grant players Liquid Emotions which can be used to add powerful Enchantments to Waystones and Amulets, and also Simulacrum Splinters which will grant players access to the Simulacrum Encounter

Guide

Delirium can be initiated in Waystones in one of two ways: through a Delirium Mirror, or by using Liquid Emotions on a Waystone. This guide will cover both of these methods

Delirium Mirrors

Some Waystones will be affected by a Delirium Encounter which you can see on the Atlas

At the start of these Waystones, you will encounter a Delirium Mirror. Running through the centre of this Mirror will cause a temporary grey fog to spread out across the map you are in. While in this fog, existing monsters will deal more damage and take less damage, and players will also be attacked by Delirium monsters.

Delirium Mirror

The Delirium encounter needs to be thought of as a slow-moving, large area of fog that travels throughout the area the player is in. It is possible to travel deeper into this fog by running further into it, but standing still or taking too long to defeat enemies will cause the wave of fog to pass by and end the Delirium encounter.

As players travel deeper into the Delirium fog, monsters will deal more damage, take less damage, gain new abilities, but also drop better loot. You may also encounter special Unique Delirium bosses that will drop a large stack of Simulacrum Splinters when slain.

Players will also find reflective pools on the ground known as Fracturing Mirrors that will spawn packs of Delirium monsters as players approach.

Fracturing Mirror

Rewards Bar

As monsters are slain, a Reward bar at the bottom of the screen will fill up, indicating how many Liquid Emotions and minimum number of Simulacrum Splinters the player will receive at the end of the encounter. The types of Liquid Emotions that will drop at the end is random, with some types being much more rare than others.

Players will also receive a stack of Simulacrum Splinters at the end of Delirium encounters, with the number increasing alongside the Waystone Tier.

Delirium Timer

Delirium encounters started by Delirium Mirrors are only temporary, forcing players to move with the fog to prevent the encounter from ending. However, the timer will be temporarily paused when engaging with other league mechanics such as Strongboxes, Breach, and Expedition, as well as after defeating a Rare enemy if They're coming to get you... is allocated. Also, if you choose to leave the Waystone to Trade or refill your flasks, the timer will be paused.

The timer is invisible, except when the Delirium Encounter is almost complete, or the player moves too far out of the Delirium fog. When this happens, a timer will show a countdown of 5 seconds during which a player will need to move deeper into the fog to continue the encounter.

Ending Delirium Early

Players can also end the Delirium Encounter at any time by clicking the End Delirium fast-forward button to the left of their Mana Orb.

You usually won't want to use this button, but if you're out of your depth and feel the difficulty is too high, this is a way to end the Delirium Encounter quickly and painlessly.

What Are Liquid Emotions Used For?

Liquid Emotions can be used to instil Notable Passives onto Amulets. This means that players can allocate a single Notable Passive Point, from almost anywhere on the tree, without having to allocate the physical points usually required to do so. For example, a Ranger could allocate something like Sharpened Claw on the other side of the Passive Tree without having to use dozens of points to reach it.

Liquid Emotions can also be used to instil Waystones, which is the second way that Delirium encounters can be started.

We have a full guide on Liquid Emotions that you can read here: PoE 2: Liquid Emotions and Amulet Anoints

Instilled Waystones

Players can also apply Delirium to Waystones by using Liquid Emotions, increasing the difficulty and reward of those Maps. The difference between this and finding a Delirium Mirror in a Map is that the Delirium Fog will persist indefinitely, meaning that players aren't under the same time pressure to slay as many monsters as possible before the fog dissipates.

Each Liquid Emotion applied to the Waystone will also apply a certain level of Delirious effect to players, causing monsters in that area to take less damage, and deal more damage, while also gaining some new special abilities and dropping better loot. The higher the Delirious Effect, the harder the Encounter - be careful!

On top of that, each Liquid Emotion will grant a specific bonus to that Waystone, which further improves potential rewards in that area.

Note: Liquid Emotions were known as "Distilled Emotions" before Patch 0.3, but this is just a name change

Unless you are employing a very specific strategy with clear goals, you generally won't want to instil your Waystones with the top three rarest Concentrated Liquid Emotions, as their rarity and value is too high to justify the payoff.

Waystones can be affected by multiple of the same type of Liquid Emotion, up to a maximum of three. The Instilling window can be accessed by right-clicking on a Liquid Emotion in a player's inventory from where a player can add in the Waystone and Liquid Emotions of their choice to instil their Waystone.

The Waystone has been affected by Liquid Emotions and the effects can be see as Enchantments above the usual Map Modifiers

Simulacrum

For the full Simulacrum Guide, click this link: Simulacrum Guide

The Simulacrum is a pinnacle encounter that can be accessed by collecting a certain number of Simulacrum Splinters and placing it in the Realmgate on the Atlas, then selecting the Difficulty by choosing the number of Splinters to spend

The Realmgate can be quickly accessed by:

  1. Opening the Atlas (clicking the Map Device, or pressing U, then clicking Endgame at the top right)
  2. Opening the Bookmarks button at the top left and then clicking the Home icon
  3. Clicking the Realmgate just to the right of the Ziggurat Refuge

The Simulacrum event features 15 waves of increasing difficulty during which players will be swarmed by packs of powerful enemies. Each wave will feature different modifiers, similar to Waystone modifiers, making each wave increasingly difficult.

After completing each wave, piles of loot will drop and can be easily Stashed away before starting the next wave, which is done by clicking the Tangmazu, the Delirium NPC. The list of rewards and modifiers will be listed beside this NPC so you'll know what you're in for before you start.

Simulacrum not only showers characters in large numbers of Liquid Emotions, but also has special Unique items that can only drop during Simulacrum encounters.

Delirium Atlas Passive Tree

Delirium also has an Atlas Passive Tree, into which points can be allocated to improve the challenge and reward of all Delirium encounters in Waystones.

Delirium Atlas Passive Points can be acquired by completing specific goals in Delirium Encounters. This was previously done by completing Simulacrums of increasing Difficulty, but has changed and will be updated once this information is public

How to Find More Delirium Encounters

Delirium Tablets and Towers

You can apply Delirium to your Maps by using Delirium Precursor Tablets on Towers that you find on your Atlas.

Each Delirium Tablet will roll with an implicit that grants 12-18 Maps in Range contain Mirrors of Delirium, and can be made Magic Rarity to add additional modifiers that increase the difficulty and reward of the Delirium Encounters in that range

You are also able to apply multiple Delirium Tablets to the same Tower, up to a maximum of three (if you completed the Tower with a Waystone with 6 modifiers), ensuring Delirium on every single Map in the Range of that Tower.

This Tower was completed with a Waystone with 6 Modifiers and can therefore be affected by up to three Tablets. Up to 81 Maps in Range of this Tower will be affected by Delirium

After using the three Delirium Tablets on the Tower, you can see that every Map in Range now has a Delirium Encounter, as well as the modifiers from the Delirium Precursor Tablets

Unless you are hyper-focused and min-maxing a single mechanic, it's generally overkill to fully invest three Tablets of a single type on a Tower in this way, as there are far fewer than 81 Maps in Range of each Tower. However, if you have a strategy in mind and this works for you, go for it.

Unique Delirium Tablets

There is also a Unique Delirium Precursor Tablet that can be used on Towers known as Clear Skies.

This Tablet will cause all Maps in Range to cause the Delirium Fog created by Delirium Mirrors to never dissipate, meaning you won't be under the same time pressure that you would from an ordinary Delirium Encounter. This is similar to using Liquid Emotions on your Waystones, but the difference is that you will still have the Reward Counter at the bottom that fills as you slay monsters, allowing you to find Liquid Emotions in your permanent-Delirium Waystones
