Major Highlights

Pure Tanks

  • Buccar is best played as a full tank because his passive reduces incoming damage by 10%. At higher levels, he also has a chance to increase his damage output. Buccar has some good stat growth. In particular, he has 50 HP, 50 strength, 40 dexterity and 45 defense. He is a great, well-rounded tank that can soak a lot of damage. To improve his resistance, you can give him pure water. His damage is okay, but he wouldn’t be a DPS tank.
  • Simon is a unique tank. He has similar stats to Buccar. He has 50 HP, 50 strength, 40 dexterity, and 40 defense. Simon's passive is unique: based on luck, he has a chance not to die in combat. As he levels up, he can gain even more luck after defeating an enemy, making it nearly impossible for him to die.
  • Goliathis another top pick right now. His Passive prevents him from switching to cavalry or flying, since he is basically too big! In return, he gets +5 build. What makes him good is the upgraded passive, which reduces adjacent foes' movement. It makes it impossible for targets to move past him. He also has decent stat growth, with 55 HP, 60 strength, and 50 defense.

DPS Tanks

  • The best DPS tank is Theodora, as she is one of the Flame Lords. She has impressive stats: 70 HP, 50 strength, 40 speed, 40 dexterity, and 40 defense. She is one of the main characters and has well-rounded stats. Her personal ability allows her to take reduced damage when attacked, making it harder for her to die.
  • Esmeralda is a popular tank. She has high stats with 55 HP, 55 strength, and 45 defense. She has solid stats all around. Her passive ability reduces equipment weight so that you can stack more items/attack speed. The upgraded passive ability is also good, as it can grant +20 hit and +4 attack if throwing a spear. She will go into heavy armor and spears.
  • Guzran's passive can be good, as it grants one of the following bonuses: +10 on hit, +10 avo or +10 crit during combat. Ideally, you'll play him as an evasion tank, as the +30 at max rank is quite good; however, the extra damage/crit isn’t ideal on a tank character. He has 50 speed and 45 dexterity, but he has low resistance.
  • Tobias is only available in the Theodora route. He has 55 HP, 60 strength and high defense. This makes him a great frontliner. When playing him, pair him with combat arts; at level 35, you can get bonuses and even higher damage multipliers to deal insane damage in combat rounds.

Mage Tanks

  • Ninae is a versatile character. She can be a physical tank, a healer, and someone who defends against magic. Her passive grants hit/avo when enemies use magic, and at level 35 she can grant it to nearby allies. This makes her good with some of the other characters on our list! She has good HP growth, strength, and resistance. She can tank incoming magic damage.

Alternative Tanks

  • Jasmine has an offensive ability, which isn’t ideal. We play tanks for the defensive stats, not the offensive ones. She has good defense, but not so good strength or resistance.
  • Dadao has 55 strength growth, 50 HP and decent defence. He isn’t ranked higher because he's very situational. If you and the enemy cannot make follow-up attacks, he gains extra attack.
  • Sirocco has some okay stats across the board. He has 40 HP, 40 strength, 40 magic, and 45 speed. He can deal physical or magical damage depending on how you run him. His passive allows him to restore HP. He can also gain evasion when levelled up.
  • Mu has high stat growth and can be a potential front-line character while dealing high physical damage.

Future Acts

  • Centurio's passive allows him to take half damage on the first fight. He has some decent stats across the board.
  • Bertrand can reduce damage while also dealing high damage.
  • Nathan has the potential to be a DPS tank. He has solid strength, dexterity and HP growth.

Class Preferences

Most tanks will want to go with Armored Knight as it gives massive defense growth. Someone with low or decent defense growth will benefit a lot from this class.

Brigand is another option for DPS tanks. Brigand gives high HP and strength growth, which is good for tank characters. However, it doesn’t provide much defence.

Light Cavalry is a cheap option and can easily take down many tanks. Its ability grants +3 max HP. You can use this on auto tasks, but avoid levelling in this class as the overall stats are not very strong compared to many other class options.

Armored Ornius Rider class is a balanced class for tanks, as it provides speed, HP and defense, which is good for tanks with low speed. What makes it really good, though, is the passive that grants +20 avo during combat if you’re effective against a unit.

Dreadnought is available in all paths and gives a variety of tank-worthy stats such as +15 HP, +15 strength and +30 defence. However, it does lower your resistance, which isn’t ideal for tanks. Levelling in this class gives you the best stats.

Bardinger gives 10 HP, 10 strength, and 5 defense, which are good stats for tanks. This class gains more resistance and mobility. It is a good option for most tanks, and you can also take the passive that reduces incoming damage when attacked with a magical attack (Aegis).

Cataphract is a cavalry and heavy armor option. It gives +15 HP, +15 strength and +10 defense. Sadly do you lose resistance and speed, but it isn’t ideal for tanks. The passive reduces incoming physical damage, which is good for characters like Theodora.

Caladrius is another cavalry class. It gives you 10 defense, 10 HP, and a little speed. Its passive gives you extra movement speed, which could be good if you want a tank that can reposition. However, this class is far from ideal.

Guardian is another class option that is on the Theodora and Dietrich path. You need to take this one to defend your characters against magic damage. It gives 10 HP, 10 strength, 10 defense, and 15 resistance, which is ideal against magic damage. The passive ability give you additional protection until the next phase.

Elephant Rider is only available in Act 3, so it is a late-game class. It has good defense, strength and HP, but you do sacrifice dexterity and resistance. Weirdly, this class also gives 20 speed, making it a unique option for characters with very low speed. Also, the War-Elephant Boots reduce incoming damage when you're attacked.
