Build Overview

Blood Fang Vex!

These are sniping-focused Vex builds, where the common factor is the traditional, one-shot style sniper rifles. This translates into gameplay that is a little more paced than usual, but feels great.

A video guide is also available! For PC players: here's a decrypted save file.

Blood Fang

Uses Trouble for some aggro relief during encounters, allowing for fewer interruptions by enemies. Not the highest peaks, but comfy gameplay.

  • Action Skill: Phase Phamiliar

Veinchant

A variation centered purely on Incarnate instead. It has the highest peak impact damage and is a reliable setup if one wants to reach the peaks of boss one-shots.

Action Skill: Incarnate

Rainbow Gal

Chooses between Prismatic Ichor or Prismatic Weaponry to achieve a very high ceiling of damage and consistent one shots. Can spawn Reapers for aggro relief.

Action Skill: Dead Ringer or Incarnate

Recon

Crit chance and consistency is the focus of this variant. It trades a bit of damage for somewhat easily accessible 100% crit chance. Can spawn Reapers for aggro relief.

Action Skill: Dead Ringer

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • High one-shot potential of mobs and bosses
  • Trouble provides aggro relief for calm(ish) sniping
  • Aiming?
  • Variants for all action skills
  • Some things can nuke Trouble out of orbit, as is tradition with minions in these games
  • Boss one-shots have have some mechanical stress and gear reliance
  • Aiming?

Build Variants

A variation centered purely on Incarnate instead. It has the highest peak impact damage and is a reliable setup if one wants to reach the peaks of boss one-shots.

Here Comes Trouble

Enchantment

  • Bonus element that is boosted by Skill damage from Ars Arcana and Blood Is Magic, and Blood Shot applies to it.

Blood Is Magic

  • Boosts our Blood Shot gunshots, and Bleed double dips it.

Vorpal Fiends

  • 25% Passive Crit Damage, which formula-wise essentially amounts to 50% Gun Damage but gets double-dipped on bleeds.

Vexcalation

Leeching Attunement, Essence Leech and Blood Is Power

  • The usual powerful combination that feeds us a gigantic bonus kinetic element source.

Bloodletter, Material Components and Ars Arcana

  • Bleed double dips Kinetic Damage. Due to Blood Shot, it will also be double dipping skill damage from Ars Arcana. It is then also boosted by the Kinetic Status damage.

Keen Mind

  • Totals 15% crit chance for any Blood Shot gunshot. Bleed will crit from Keen Mind.
  • A Honed Mind and Skill Crit Chance rolls on Class Mods further add to this.

Blood Shot

  • Is only at 1/5 due to the fact we're working with high base damage weapons that are being multiplied by Amp. Maxing it out would not give us much value.
  • The main value we're getting from this skill is the fact it turns our gunshots into Skill Damage.
    • Order Sniper, even when fully charged, only gets what amounts to one instance of Blood Shot. This makes the skill itself even less relevant for those, and further justifies the 1/5 for skill damage access.

Grave Harvest and Geistwave

  • For general mobbing use, Grave Harvest is here. Geistwave is for the tankier bosses or if you really just want to see the biggest number.

WEAPONS

Truck

Great general use sniper, and main choice for mobbing.

  • Torgue (Impact Mag) provides a larger mag and AoE, being excellent with an Air Burst (Pumper) enhancement.
  • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun mode can be nice for consistence, and also rolls alongside Torgue.
  • A pure, no licensed parts version can roll very high damage and is also decent if you prefer something more traditional.

Vladof Sniper

BIG. ROCKET. BIG ROCKET.

  • The Big Rocket underbarrel actually causes double its listed card damage, because it shoots two rockets! This makes it an excellent bossing option that stays sniper-themed, since it will count as sniper damage.

Order SniperSymmetry

The Symmetry is an adequate farmable choice until you find a good Piktun, but it doesn't have access to any of the good licenses a Piktun has.

Piktun is the ultimate 'normal gun' for one-shots of any health bar. Also works well for mobbing, just charge it a bit for the stronger enemies.

  • The highest damage is only achievable with a Torgue (Impact Mag) or Torgue (Sticky Mag) license.
    • Torgue (Impact Mag) is the usual choice for this, due to the upfront damage and the fact it also enables double hit pierce strategies with High Caliber.
    • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is also alright when paired with Torgue (Impact Mag), since the ricochet can hit the ground and hit the boss again. It has lower base damage though, and is a poor strategy against flying bosses.
    • Torgue (Sticky Mag) has a place due to the fact it has better Contamination buildup, especially if paired with Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun Mode. This consistency usually has a damage cost however, and it may be felt on some bosses.

Order ARTediore AR

Drone underbarrels of your choosing. Kill drone on Order AR, Support drone on Tediore AR.

  • Kill drones can help give a breather during dense mobbing, and you can snapshot Amp + Blood Shot into them.
  • Support drones work on you and minions.

Rooker

A powerful underbarrel option.

  • The Rooker Callous underbarrel can annihilate bosses by itself, and also acts well as passive damage during mobbing, since you can use underbarrel then go right back to sniping or even swap to another weapon while the needles do work.

FisheyeBorstel BallistaBoomslang

These are other nice Sniper options.

  • Fisheye is powerful and its projectiles have a large hitbox, making it (usually) pretty good at dealing with vile and ordonite enemies.
  • Borstel Ballista has innate piercing and is kind of a sweet spot weapon which can feel very rewarding.
  • Boomslang doesn't exactly see its full potential realized on Vex, but is still a fun gun.

More Weapons

You can also bring any other guns you're comfortable with. I personally like Hot Slugger, Balor Jakobs Shotgun, Goalkeeper and G.M.R. because they fit in and synergize well with the setup.

Underbarrels

Some underbarrels in this game are extremely strong. Here's a list of ones you can try:

REPKIT

Order Repkit and Triple Bypass and are great good choices of Repkit with their own relative strengths.

Look for these effects, or combinations of them if applicable:

  • Amp (Amplified)
  • Enrage (Experimental)
  • Accelarator (Adrenalized)
  • Reload Speed (Dextrous)
    • Note: 'Leech' (Lifesteal) Repkits do not apply to Blood Is Power.

ORDNANCE

Completely up to you. Utility against viles or just pure damage.

'Crit Knife' Jakobs Grenade is useful at reducing RNG reliance on boss one-shots. It's also a big boost to bleed.

'Ricochet Artillery' Order Grenade or Vladof Grenade can be useful for stacking effects like Contamination or Riddle You This.

Countermeasure, Waterfall, Blockbuster, Skully, Firepot and Slippy are fun options for mobbing.

A Torgue Heavy Weapon or Maliwan Heavy Weapon with high single-shot damage can be strong for a singular shot provided you Repkit right before swapping to it for Blood Shot access.

CLASS MOD

Ideal stat rolls for any Class Mod would be:

  • Kinetic Damage
  • Skill Damage
  • Skill Crit Chance
  • Gun Crit Chance

Undead Eye Class Mod

Main choice for mobbing, due to the consistent triggers of Blood Shot and Repkit sustain.

  • +3 Infernal Sum; +3 Guns and Needles; +1 Blood Shot
    • Undead Eye always rolls one point in Blood Shot, and a maximum of +3 in Infernal Sum.

Psion Vex Class Mod

Main choice for boss one-shots, due to the powerful scaling of Bloodletter. You can also use this for mobbing if you want, just be mindful that you'll have no way to trigger Blood Shot apart from using your Repkit.

  • +5 Bloodletter: +2 Leeching Attunement or +2 Material Components

Teen Witch Class Mod

Excellent for general use, since it provides good sustain, damage and has great skill rolls. However, won't have the Blood Shot QoL from Undead Eye or the bossing peaks of a good Psion.

  • +5 Blood Is Magic or +5 Conjunction; +2 Corporeal
    • Maximizes passive boosts if you want to keep this class mod on for both bossing and mobbing.
  • +5 Grave Thirst; +Any Blood Is Magic and Corporeal.
    • The highest peaks of mobbing damage due to Blood Is Power benefitting from the lifesteal.

SHIELD

Guardian Angel

150% Amp. This is the ideal shield for this setup due to its fast recharge and short delay, alongside its excellent defensive trait.

Watts 4 Dinner or Cindershelly or Pandoran Momento or Amp Shield

150% Amp. These are the second best-in-slot and have bad Amp uptime without Teen Witch.

ENHANCEMENT

For stat rolls on any enhancement, look for:

  • Gun Damage
  • Sniper Rifle Damage
  • Gun Crit Damage, Sniper Rifle Crit Damage
  • Gun Splash Radius, Gun Type Splash Radius
    • Radius boosts can be deceptively excellent depending on the strategy employed.
    • Great for Air Burst or Pumper + High Caliber + Jakobs Shotgun Spread Launcher or Vladof Sniper Big Rocket, for example. Also perfect for Torgue AR Airstrike.

Pumper | Headringer Torgue Enhancement

  • Great for torgue or torgue-licensed weapons.
  • Pumper is an excellent enhancement for Torgue (Impact Mag) projectiles and can make vile or ordonite enemies a lot easier to deal with. The Air Burst effect is more useful than it seems.
    • Aiming slightly above crit spots usually allows you to still hit non-chance crits with Air Burst.

Quintain | Multistrike | Piercer or Bounce Pass Jakobs Enhancement

  • Great for jakobs or jakobs-licensed weapons.
  • Quintain and Bounce Pass are generally mobbing-enhancing options, which may or may not be better than the Torgue enhancements depending on the weapon. They can have bossing applications if using High Caliber double hit pierce strategies.

Primadiem | Ouroboros | Power Shot Order Enhancement

  • Power Shot is excellent for boss one-shots with the Piktun.
  • Primadiem and Ouroboros are good for general use of Order Sniper rifles.

3/3 Deadeye; 2/3 Skillcraft or 2/3 High Caliber

  • This setup has the highest peaks for mobbing damage.
    • High Caliber has more potential damage over Skillcraft due to formula placement, but the Crit Chance from the latter adds more consistency. Your choice.

2/3 Deadeye; 2/3 High Caliber or 2/3 Skillcraft; 1/3 Heating Up or 1/3 Jacked

  • Comfortable setup with passive boosts. Smooths out your Reload Speed with Heating Up or ADS Speed with Jacked - pick what feels most needed.
    • High Caliber has more potential damage over Skillcraft due to formula placement, but the Crit Chance from the latter adds more consistency. Your choice.

2/3 High Caliber; 2/3 Deadeye; 1/3 Skillcraft

  • Purely passive damage boosts for boss one-shots. Also works for general use.
    • Maximizes impact damage on the first shot of a fight.

3/3 High Caliber; 2/3 Skillcraft

  • Absurd potential. With splash-capable weaponry, this lets you shoot through enemy hitboxes while aiming at the ground for double hits. With enough crit chance, this also means double bleeds or another chance at a bleed.
    • Maxed High Caliber messes up Blood Shot retriggers from Undead Eye. It shouldn't be your bossing class mod against the stronger bosses anyway, but keep that in mind for mobbing.

Specialization

Specialization 1A Honed Mind
Specialization 2Now With Caffeine
Specialization 3In The Zone
Specialization 4The Best Defense

The Best Defense applies to all damage, and Bloodletter double dips it.

Contamination provides excellent consistency.

In The Zone is mechanically annoying but not too hard to keep up. Just don't make your life revolve around it too much.

A Honed Mind applies to Blood Shot gunshots and Bloodletter, making it a potent pick.

Other picks:

  • Now With Caffeine if cooldowns annoy you too much.
  • Riddle You This and I Am A Gun are decent when trying to reach the highest numbers possible, but require a lot more involvement.
  • Overkill is an ok choice for mobbing.
  • Avoid One Shot, One Kill, it has a terribly low hard cap in this game.

Gameplay

Mobbing

Use Phase Phamiliar or Incarnate or Dead Ringer, depending on your variant.

Start with a Repkit for Amp + Blood Shot. Hit those crits.

Weave in more Repkits for consistency and keep going.

  • When using Incarnate with Grave Harvest, if you can spam-press the interact/use button as soon as an enemy dies, you can pickup the Soul Orb from extremely long range. Do it too late and it will detonate, though.

Bossing

Order Sniper,Borstel Ballista, Stop Gap, Truck, Fisheye and Complex Root are your main bossing choices in terms of snipers. Effectiveness might be dictated by the type of boss.

If you'd rather use underbarrels, pick just about any of the strongest ones from the weapons list.

  • Rooker is an easy underbarrel recommendation because it annihilates anything and is still a sniper.

The loop is similar to mobbing. Repkit for Amp + Blood Shot and hit those crits.

If you'd prefer to attempt true boss one-shots, then you want to very specifically focus on the Order Sniper and/or strong underbarrels.

  • The Psion Class Mod and the 'Crit Knife' Jakobs Grenade come in handy here for increased consistency, as does Contamination.

Notes

Rainbow Gal and Prismatic Ichor

  • Avoid using Prismatic Ichor with Dead Ringer Specters, or spawn them out of range, because they can and WILL rob you of your Ichor proc.
  • The Torgue (Sticky Mag) and Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun mode variants of Order Sniper do not play well with Prismatic Ichor, due to its built-in cooldown. Opt for Prismatic Weaponry instead if wanting to play with those weapon rolls specifically.
