Build Overview

Blulock Vex!

This is a Gun + Action Skill build that uses Dead Ringer Specters. Any good guns can be well-supported by the setup, while equipping specific gear allows the focus to be shifted more onto Specters if one so wishes.

There's no big restrictions in guns or gun types, and zero elemental restrictions. If a gun is good, then you can use it. The build has a vague focus on weapon swaps and mode switches due to Attunements + Prismatic Weaponry and Daed-dy O, but you can get around that by simply using other firmware options in case you dislike it.

I initially made this build because I wanted to max out the Conflux. It is still one of the main weapon suggestions due to it being fun and fitting very well with the playstyle, but it is far from the only option.

This is not a pure action skill minion build, though one can certainly make it work that way for various scenarios when applying the right methods.

  • Teen Witch enables a larger focus on gun gameplay.
  • Spirits,Illusionist or Commander Vex Class Mod allows leaning heavily into the Action Skill aspect, especially when paired with the Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement + a Beam Tosser Maliwan Shotgun.
  • Configuration introduces a third factor in the form of Blood Rifts, which can mixed in with the Gun + Action Skill gameplay to great effect.

The setup can be played on Scaled and True Mode. Effectiveness on True Mode is largely defined by gear stat rolls, player input and proper use of the build's mechanics.

  • This build is not a meta blaster or record setter, but it is very optimized within what it does and provides many options.

This build is partially inspired by:

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Gun and Action Skill
  • If a gun is good, it can be used
  • High damage
  • High sustain
  • Very good Mortal Terror proc rates
  • Cooldown management
  • Specters override Bloodletter stacks very quickly

Build Variants

Default Blulock.

  • Action Skill: Dead Ringer
    • Coven + Wither + Dark Pact

Vexcalation

Traditional kill skill routing down to Mortal Terror, which is the foundation for Kill Skill Vex.

  • Guns and Needles is excellent for Repkit uptime.
  • Grave Sights provides Vex a large amount of Crit soup while also affecting Bloodletter.
  • Grave Implements is worth 2x on Specters, and then applies again at half effectiveness through I Am A Gun.
  • Bloodletter adds significant damage. Specters, however, override bleeds insanely quickly due to the 20 stack cap, so we can't 100% rely on it here when bossing.
  • Keen Mind further enables bleed and Specter crits.
  • Mortal Terror grants excellent kill skill uptimes. You can actually mess around with these points, just don't go below 3/5 or it can start feeling really inconsistent.

The Fourth Seal

More Kill Skills, a Bonus Element and some extra support for Conflux.

Coven provides our Crit Chance. Wither adds some extra soup.

Dark Pact is great for Dead Ringer uptime since it restarts the HP drain, and for Mortal Terror trigger rates. It's also a massive DPS boost to Specters, even more so should you use the Mixologist + Beam Tosser strats.

  • You can play around with your preferred point combination between Idle Hands, Sanguine Fiends and Grave Assault.
  • Grave Fiends is a simply excellent boost that also has comfortable duration.
  • Prismatic Weaponry is a Bonus Element and one of the main scalers of damage. It's also another potential source of valid status effects for Conflux. We further boost it by keeping Blight Attunement and Burning Attunement active.
  • Prismatic Ichor is here just due to the potential status for Conflux. You can safely experiment with having this point elsewhere.
  • Diener alleviates cooldown issues a bit by granting an extra charge of Dead Ringer.

WEAPONS

If a weapon is good, it will generally perform well in the build. Use what you like and combine it with a good enhancement. The gear below are just recommended and favorite choices.

For playing around Daed-dy O, Attunements and Prismatic Weaponry, I recommend weapons with Mode Switches. If you'd rather not play around Daed-dy O, just make the relevant Firmware changes.

Have at least one weapon of each element available in your backpack. It can be any weapon. This is just so that you have full access to any element if you ever wish to spawn a specific elemental type of Specter, and to make full use of Prismatic Weaponry should you wish to.

Conflux

One of my favorite picks for this build, mainly due to it having cool synergies with it. Even if it's not a stellar S-Tier weapon, it has great mobbing and competent bossing.

Look for versions that have Corrosive + Fire Element Switch, alongside Shock, Radiation and Cryo Pearl Elemental Override. This covers our needs for activating Blight Attunement and Burning Attunement for Prismatic Weaponry by simply performing mode switches.

  • Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is excellent to have for mobbing.
  • Ripper (Charge Mag Override) is excellent for bossing and has great enhancement options.
    • Atlas (Dart Underbarrel) is a good alternative for bossing with its own respective enhancements.
  • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun/SMG/AR mode are nice, but the part takes away one element from the elemental switch, restricting usage of the attunements to one unless you perform weapon swaps. Still, it can be great.

Maliwan Shotgun

The Vertex Maliwan Shotgun as a gun can feel pretty nice on this setup, as does the Sweet Embrace.

The Vertex and Stellium can both spawn with either of a great underbarrel:

  • Beam Tosser. Get them in as many elements as you can, or at least cover the main three. This has two possible applications in the build:
    • Great bossing damage from the Beam Tosser itself due to Amp and bleeds.
    • Feeding damage to Specters through Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement. ESSSENTIAL if you'd like to go that route.

Complex Root

Excellent bossing option that can benefit seamlessly with gear for the Conflux.

  • Atlas (Dart Underbarrel) and Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) are the recommended licenses.
  • Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Shotgun Mode is alright.

Jakobs Shotgun

  • Spread Launcher Underbarrel.
    • Quickly dispatch crystal enemies, and has excellent bossing damage.

Hot SluggerJakobs ShotgunRainbow Vomit

  • The Hot Slugger is very well-liked gun that fits perfectly as a kinetic choice for Leeching Attunement.
  • An Epic Balor Jakobs Shotgun can also feel excellent and is very fun to play with. Daedalus (Underbarrel/Multi-Loader) Sniper Mode on it is a personal favorite.
  • Rainbow Vomit performs respectably and is also something you can use to apply statuses before swapping back to the Conflux. Although this build doesn't particularly need to use this interaction, it's a less mechanically stressful approach with similar results.

Crow-SourcedGoalkeeper

Absolutely excellent assault rifles.

  • Crow-Sourced is a top-tier bossing and mobbing choice, and a great performer all-around for any activity.
  • Goalkeeper has access to Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) and is a little more versatile for mobbing.

Stat Stick for Blood Rifts

  • These are only really meant to be used with Configuration. Ignore if using another class mod.

Potato Thrower IVFleabagTorgue AR

With the Airstrike Underbarrel, which on the Potato Thrower IV and Fleabag can reach up to 129k Base Damage at level 60. These are the great to hold while spawning the Blood Rifts, and you can swap off of them and back to your guns after you've summoned the rifts.

  • You must have the underbarrel mode active while doing summoning the Blood Rifts.
  • Obviously, use the best you can find. The maximum damage 129k Airstrike Underbarrel will always have a COV (Unlimited Mag) part. The Epic Torgue AR can get up to 127k.

More Weapons...

  • Check out Borderlands 4 META Weapons Tier List for a general list. From there, pick weapons based on the build's strengths and match an adequate Enhancement. That way, any good weapon will play well.

REPKIT

Order Repkit

  • Enrage (Experimental) + Accelarator (Adrenalized) is generally good, especially for mobbing.
  • Amp (Amplified) + Enrage (Experimental) is a great opener for boss fights.

War Paint and Triple Bypass with any of the relevant perks are the other relevant Repkit options.

ORDNANCE

Crit Knife Jakobs Grenade is a staple choice due to damage and more Mortal Terror procs.

Countermeasure, Waterfall, Blockbuster, Skully, Firepot and Slippy are fun options for mobbing.

Torgue Heavy Weapon and Maliwan Heavy Weapon are also decent.

CLASS MOD

For stat rolls on class mods, look for any of:

  • Gun Damage
  • Gun Crit Chance
  • Gun Type Damage
  • Damage Dealt
  • Fire Rate

Teen Witch

Main choice if you want to completely focus on guns. Specters will have competent mobbing damage, but be relegated almost entirely to support against bosses.

Perma-Amp is an excellent boost to Conflux since it fills out the part of the damage formula the gun lacks the most, and of course it's a massive damage benefit to the other gun options.

  • +4 or +3 Grave Thirst; +3 Corporeal or +4 Conjunction
    • Excellent sustain from Grave Thirst for both Vex and Specters, allowing the latter to last longer throughout an encounter
  • +4 Conjunction; +3 Corporeal
    • Full damage-oriented pick. Specter sustain can be problematic if you don't max out Sanguine Fiends while running this.

Spirits

Great choice for leaning towards making the Specters more powerful. Grave Current gives them a large Skill Damage Bonus Element.

+5 Grave Current; + Any

  • Maximum Specter Damage.

Commander Vex Class Mod

Great choice for leaning towards making the Specters more powerful. Infusion allows for one extra trigger of the Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement. The Gun Damage boost from Grave Implements applies twice to Specters, and then again at half effectiveness through I Am A Gun.

  • +5 Fiendish Invigoration; +1 Infusion; +1 Grave Implements
    • Gets the extra Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement trigger from Infusion while also maximizing trigger rate through Fiendish Invigoration.
  • +5 or +2 Infusion; +5 or +2 Grave Implements
    • More balanced approach that helps Vex's damage too instead of mainly the Specters.

Illusionist

Another good choice if wanting to make the Specters more powerful, while retaining respectable Vex damage output. There won't be any extra Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement triggers compared to Commander, but the overall damage boost from 10/5 Prismatic Weaponry makes a nice, balanced approach.

  • +5 Prismatic Weaponry; +2 Sanguine Fiends
    • Big damage from Prismatic Weaponry, while great sustain for both Vex and Specters comes from Sanguine Fiends.

Configuration

Fun option to mix up the playstyle and introduce a third factor alongside the Guns and Action Skill. Make sure to spawn Blood Rifts using an appropriate stat stick for them (check weapons section).

  • +5 Deadwire; +Any
    • All the other skill rolls are pretty lackluster compared to Deadwire.

SHIELD

Watts 4 Dinner

150% Amp. this is the main choice when using Teen Witch. The Bonus Shock damage is also another Status source for Conflux.

Guardian Angel

150% Amp. Great for use with the other class mod options.

Super Soldier

Great for use with the other class mod options.

ENHANCEMENT

For stat rolls on enhancements, look for any of:

  • Gun Equip Speed
    • Highly recommended roll due to the usage of Attunements, Maliwan Switches, Weapon Swaps and Daed-dy O.
  • Gun and Gun Type Damage
    • Essential rolls due to formula placement. Try having at least one of them where applicable.
  • Gun and Gun Type Fire Rate
  • Gun and Gun Type Magazine Size

Assuit |Toile | Mixologist | Primed Potency Maliwan Enhancement

  • Excellent choices for mobbing with the Conflux. The damage from Mixologist won't be converted by the Pearl Elemental Override, guaranteeing you an extra status for the Conflux special effect.
  • Mixologist is also perfect for boosting the damage of Specters by holding a Maliwan Shotgun with Beam Tosser Underbarrel.
  • Toile and Primed Potency are great picks if ever using a Vertex/Stellium/Sweet Embrace as main weapons.

Quintain | Bounce Pass | Piercer Jakobs Enhancement

  • Additional mobbing choices that have broader application for many Jakobs and Jakobs-licensed guns.
  • These can feel just as good if not better than Mixologist for the Conflux.

Evolver | Primadiem | Power Shot Order Enhancement

Disruptor | Binger | High Roller | Short Circuit Ripper Enhancement

  • Good options for any ripper or ripper-licensed weaponry.

Pumper |Studfinder | Head Ringer Torgue Enhancement

  • Great for torgue or torgue-licensed guns. These can go very well with either Gyrojets or Stickies.
    • The Air Burst effect is extremely powerful for mobbing and against Vile/Ordonite enemies. Don't sleep on it.

Combo | Nexus | Junction Atlas Enhancement

  • Great for bossing with Atlas-licensed guns. Also pretty nice for sticky weapons that have Atlas license.

Firmware

Repkit & Ordnance
Repkit FirmwareDaed-dy O
Ordnance FirmwareDaed-dy O
Utilities
Class Mod FirmwareSkillcraft
Shield FirmwareDaed-dy O
Enhancement FirmwareSkillcraft

3/3 Daed-dy O | 2/3 Skillcraft or 2/3 High Caliber

  • The Daed-dy O firmware provides amazing boosts as long as you play around the mode switch requirement. Thankfully, the build is already doing that for the attunements, so it slots in perfectly and also has perfect formula placement for what the setup is missing.
  • Skillcraft is more Mortal Terror procs from the Specters, while High Caliber is more total Damage due to formula placement. Take your pick.

Other Options

3/3 Deadeye | 2/3 Skillcraft or 2/3 High Caliber

  • Trades the better formula of Daed-dy O for soup and ease of usage.

3/3 Active Fire | 2/3 Preference

  • Absolutely excellent for Order weaponry, especially Crow-Sourced.
  • You can combine the 3/3 Active Fire with any of the following:
    • 2/3 High Caliber if you want the most damage.
    • 1/3 High Caliber; 1/3 Deadeye for utility.
    • 1/3 High Caliber or 1/3 Deadeye; 1/3 Heating Up for utility.

3/3 High Caliber | 1/3 Active Fire | 1/3 Heating Up

  • For the funny piercing effect resulting in double hits with splash-capable weaponry.

3/3 Trickshot | 1/3 Active Fire |

    • Can provide legitimately useful ammo returns, however it's a significant damage downgrade compared to Daed-dy O and the others.

Specialization

Specialization 1Riddle You This
Specialization 2The Best Defense
Specialization 3In The Zone
Specialization 4I Am A Gun

The Best Defense | Riddle You This | In The Zone | I Am A Gun

  • Default setup with significant damage boosts.
    • Contamination is a valid option in place of either The Best Defense or In The Zone. It helps Bloodletter and the Conflux special effect.
    • Now With Caffeine is another option if you want better cooldowns.

Gameplay

MOBBING

General Mobbing

Simply bring your favorite weapons and shoot. Use frequent Mode Switches and Weapon Swaps if you want to make the most of out Daed-dy O and Prismatic Weaponry.

If you don't want to deal with Daed-dy O, use one of the other firmware options.

Conflux Mobbing

Like the Conflux enough to want it as a main weapon? Then here's how to extract the most of it:

Have a Conflux with Corrosive + Fire Elemental Switch. Either Radiation, Shock or Cryo Pearl Elemental Override.

Jakobs (Ricochet Accessory) is excellent to have.

  • Swap between modes every once in a while for Daed-dy O uptime.
  • The combination of Mixologist, Specters, Prismatic Weaponry, Prismatic Ichor, Bloodletter, the gun's element and the Pearl Override, results in access to many sources of different statuses that play into the Conflux special effect.
    • Alternatively, use any of the recommended good guns that you enjoy.
  • Bring any of the good splash options to deal with Crystal enemies.

Dead Ringer Mobbing Tips

Spawn Specters. The occasional Reaper is also great due to the immense aggro relief it provides, alongside health regen from Coven.

Pace your summons a little bit so that you don't completely drain your cooldowns. Alternatively, use Now With Caffeine which allows you to be spammier.

  • If you'd rather see the Specters do more work (or even all the work sometimes), hold a Beam Tosser Underbarrel Maliwan Shotgun while having the Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement equipped.

BOSSING

Spawn Specters. Throw Crit Knife Jakobs Grenade. They will quickly trigger your kill skills to max once they start hitting the boss.

  • That's when you Repkip for Amp and shoot your choice of powerful, bursty damage, like Beam Tossers or Spread Launcher.
  • Remember to perform a quick mode switch on the gun so that you trigger Daed-dy O before shooting. Ignore if using other Firmware.

Bossing with Conflux

I recommend a Ripper (Charge Mag) version of Conflux for bossing, since it has a deeper mag and higher fire rate. It also enables access to the Ripper Enhancements, although Mixologist is also completely fine to use instead.

Set up the Specters.

  • You can actually spawn them in different elements so they support the Conflux special effect. I recommend Radiation, Cryo and any of Corrosive/Shock/Fire.
  • This also nets you 90% soup from Wither.

Throw Crit Knife Jakobs Grenade. Specters will quickly stack up your kill skills.

Shoot boss until it dies. Aim at the crit spot if there is one. Throw more knives if needed.

  • If you'd rather see the Specters do more work (or even all the work sometimes), hold a Beam Tosser Underbarrel Maliwan Shotgun while having the Mixologist Maliwan Enhancement equipped.
