Now that you know the best champions for LoL, get the best champions for Teamfight Tactics with our TFT tier list or Wild Rift with our Wild Rift tier list.

We also have a best decks tier list for LoR and an agent tier list for Valorant.

Methodology TLDR:

  • Our first tier list aimed at lower ELO, specifically Bronze up to high Plat/low Diamond. Our second tier list is for high ELO, aimed at Diamond 2 and above.
  • Our experts curate these picks and are an indicator of the champion’s inherent strength when played at the highest level. For many of the user base, this information isn’t super relevant for their games but provides invaluable insight into the game itself.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo Queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Expert pick commentary

LoL Tier List feature example

Top – Gragas

  • Gragas has insane win rates across multiple roles, performing amazingly well in solo lanes and even the jungle.
  • However, in the top lane is where he’s shining, with his tanky AP build allowing him to lane against anything and always be useful with his CC, his engage, and surprising damage and durability.

Jungle – Volibear

  • Volibear is well and truly back after his buffs last patch, and now he’s a dominant pick in the jungle and the top lane, too.
  • He’s got a bunch of different tank or AP bruiser setups that allow him to get insanely beefy and offer a ton of damage, and once he gets a bit too far ahead, he feels incredibly difficult to deal with!

Mid – Karma

  • Karma has been an insanely strong pick in the mid-lane at all ranks over recent patches, and this doesn’t stop anytime soon.
  • She has tons of damage, amazing waveclear, solid survivability and fantastic utility, making her the perfect pick for any team composition and draft you come across.
  • Looking for an easy champion to play? Karma is the one for you.

Bottom – Ashe

  • Ashe has been performing much better than most players give her credit for recently, and with plenty of nerfs to other S-tier bot lane picks like TF and Vayne, Ashe will look to rise out from underneath them!
  • She can be somewhat difficult to play as she’s very squishy and has no mobility, but if you can play her well enough, she offers amazing lane control, solid slows and CC, great kiting and damage, and of course, fantastic scaling!

Support – Zyra

  • Zyra has always been more effective at lower ranks with her relentless poke and ability to bully lanes.
  • With great catch potential and high DPS: she’s one of the best supports in the game to outplay the enemy when they try to gank or all-in you.

Top – Riven

  • Riven has always been an amazing top lane carry at higher ranks, with those one-trick ponies being some of the scariest players to come up against, and so far this season, she’s having an amazing time in this current meta.
  • Despite having some bad matchups, as she always does, if you pick her in the right games and you’re good enough to play her perfectly, you will farm LP without too much trouble.

Jungle – Kindred

  • Kindred is the ultimate jungler to play if you really understand the jungle macro well and can not only carry the game but also completely destroy the enemy jungler at the same time.
  • Kindred is a snowballing menace to come up against and she scales insanely hard due to those marks on her passive!
  • If you pick her in the right comp with allies with CC or enchanters to make her even stronger, it’ll be freelo every single time.

Mid – Qiyana

  • Qiyana is a notorious high elo mid-lane machine and in the right hands there are not many champions with a skill ceiling as high as she has!
  • She is very difficult to play and to master, because not only does she have difficult combos and mechanics, but she also has a ton of difficult matchups to overcome to make her viable.
  • Right now though, Qiyana is looking incredibly strong with amazing item options to play around with, and she’s maintaining a super higher win rate at those top ranks.

Bottom – Kai’Sa

  • Kai’Sa is slowly but surely rising back into those top tiers and already recently at higher ranks her playrate has shot through the roof.
  • You can build her On-hit attack speed and kite your way through teams, you can build her Eclipse into full AP and burst enemies down in seconds, or you can go for all sorts of combinations and mixes between the two, but whichever way you build her, she’s an amazing carry to play this patch, if you’ve got what it takes!

Support – Pyke

  • Pyke received some buffs a few patches ago and since then he’s been one of the best OTP support picks to play, to carry with, and to climb with!
  • He has a unique playstyle compared to most other supports because he needs to pick his moments perfectly to dive in and execute enemies, but if you can play him well enough, he’s one of the most rewarding picks in the game, so get practicing!

Disclaimer #1: If a champion isn’t on our LoL Tier List, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.
Disclaimer #2: This list is meant to evaluate the champions that we believe are best for climbing Solo Queue. Although there can certainly be some overlap, we are NOT looking to name the champions that are the best in pro-play or organized, competitive 5-on-5. This is why champs that require a ton of team coordination such as Ryze, may not be included or ranked highly.

As always, we welcome all discussion and feedback.
