Xerath Matchups Overview
Xerath General information
Stand as far back as possible and use your range advantage to harass and poke the enemy laners down. Use your Q and W from far away so they cannot trade back with you.
Delay a team fight for as long as possible while you aim to poke the enemy with your abilities. Look to fight when the enemy is low.
Make use of your Passive by auto-attacking enemy champions or minions in lane to top your mana back up. This will allow you to continue harassing the enemy with your abilities.
Every combo you need to master the champion!
If you want to use the most popular Xerath Support build, you should take Exhaust and Flash as your Summoner Spells. For runes, you should pick First Strike as your keystone, followed by Magical Footwear, Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight in the primary tree, as well as Manaflow Band and Scorch in the secondary tree. For rune shards, you want Adaptive Force in offense, Adaptive Force in flex and Armor in defense, though it depends on the matchup. Finally, for your items, you should build Shard of True Ice as your first item, followed by Sorcerer's Shoes and Luden's Tempest. For your last 3 items, you should build Shadowflame, Rabadon's Deathcap and finish with Void Staff. For the skill order, you want to stick with Q - W - E. Right now, this build has 53.3% winrate over 54 217 matches played.
If you're looking for alternatives, you can use Flash and Ignite as your Summoner Spells, with runes being Dark Harvest as your keystone, Cheap Shot, Eyeball Collection and Ultimate Hunter in the primary tree, and Manaflow Band with Scorch in the secondary tree, as well as Adaptive Force, Adaptive Force, and Armor as your rune shards. The items that this build incorporates are Shard of True Ice as your first item, then Sorcerer's Shoes as a second item and Luden's Tempest as a third item. You want to finish the build with Shadowflame, Rabadon's Deathcap and Void Staff. As far as ability max order goes, you want to keep it Q - W - E. This build is currently sitting at a 52.7% win rate across 2 300 matches played.
If you want to try an Off-Meta Xerath Support build in the current patch, try Flash and Ignite as your Summoner Spells, Electrocute, Cheap Shot, Eyeball Collection and Ultimate Hunter as your primary rune tree, and Legend: Tenacity with Cut Down as your secondary tree. Use Cooldown Reduction, Adaptive Force and Health as your shards. For items in this build, you want to complete Shard of True Ice as your first item, then finish Sorcerer's Shoes as your second item, and Luden's Tempest as third item. The last 3 options are Horizon Focus, Rabadon's Deathcap and Zhonya's Hourglass. The ability order for this build is Q - E - W. As of the current patch, this build has a 50.9% win rate over 175 matches played.
Situational Xerath Runes and Items
Depending on the context of your game, your matchup, and enemy champions, you might want to consider building some situational items or take specific runes. Carefully examine your team, enemy team, game state , and your matchup to plan your Xerath build accordingly! For example, when it comes to rune shards, you might want to take either Armor or Magic Resist, depending on which champion you are about to lane against.
