Omens are a type of item that when active in your inventory, affect the way that other Currency items function. Omens are an incredibly powerful and useful tool in Path of Exile 2's crafting arsenal and are quite advanced and require a fundamental understanding of itemisation and crafting
Omens can be obtained from various types of content, but predominantlythe Ritual mechanic. There are also Abyss Omensthat were recently added to the game that drop from the Abyss mechanic. And of course, Omens can always be obtained from the Currency Exchange for players playing in Trade Leagues
There are also a few types of special Omens that trigger when certain conditions in combat are met - these will not be discussed as they do not relate to crafting, which is the focus of this guide.
How Omens Work
Omens need to be Active in your inventory for their effects to function. You can do this by simply right-clicking on the Omen while it is in your inventory. You will know the Omen is active by the red border that surrounds it while Active.
The Omen on the bottom right is Active as is noted by the red border surrounding it
Omens can also be used in combination to stack their effects, resulting in very specific and powerful crafting outcomes
List of Crafting Omens
In order to understand what Omens do and how they function, here is a list of them with their effects. Don't be overwhelmed - you don't need to memorise these all and will learn them much more easily by either using them yourself, or watching crafting videos where they are being used.
Omens have a naming scheme that can make it easier to understand how they work:
Sinistral: affects Prefixes
Dextral: affects Suffixes
of Exaltation: affects function of Exalted Orbs
of Annulment: affects function of Orbs of Annulment
Homogenising: Currency will add modifiers that are similar to existing modifiers on the item

Catalysing Exaltation
Exalted Orb will consume all Catalyst Quality to increase the chance of the corresponding type of Modifier
While there are many more Omens, the above listed ones are the most common Omens that players use while crafting. Most of the "Dextral/Sinistral of X Currency" type of Omen have a very straightforward function, but can be combined to create a more complex outcome
For example, a player might activate a Omen of Dextral Exaltation and an Omen of Greater Exaltation before using a Perfect Exalted Orb to add two Suffix modifiers that both count as being used by a Perfect Exalted Orb, meaning the item will be granted two Suffixes with a Minimum Modifier Tier of 50.
Some of these Omens have a more complex function that need to be discussed separately
Omen of Homogenising Exaltation
The Omen of Homogenising Exaltation is one of the most powerful Omens, but requires a strong foundational understanding of modifier Tags and the mod pool to use properly. The way that this Omen functions is that when combined with an Exalted Orb, the only modifiers that can be added to the item are modifiers that share Tags with existing modifiers on the item.
For example, if you have a Staff with two Suffixes and no Prefixes - for example Tier 1 Cast Speed and +5 to Level of All Spell Skills - the combined pool of Tags of these modifiers is "Caster, Speed and Gem". With an Omen of Homogenising Exaltation, the only modifiers that can be added are modifiers that have any one of those Tags.
A player who understands the mod pool might notice that there are no other Suffix modifiers with the Speed or Gem Tags, and that the only two other Suffixes with the Caster Tags are two modifiers that the players want - #% increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells and #% increased Critical Spell Damage Bonus.

With this knowledge, a player could then force one of these modifiers by using an Omen of Homogenising Exaltation combined with an Omen of Dextral Exaltation to ensure that the next Exalted Orb can only add a Suffix, and that Suffix has to share Tags with existing modifiers.
Again, don't be overwhelmed by this or expect that you now need to go out and learn the entire modifier pool and all their tags - this is knowledge that will come with time and a lot of experience and sites like PoE2DB have Lists of Item Modifiers and their Tags
The Omen of Whittling is a less-commonly used Omen, but has a powerful function in that it can be used to accurately reroll an undesirable, lower level modifier on an item with a Chaos Orb.
The term "lowest level modifier" doesn't refer to the modifier Tier; for example, if an item had 5 Tier 1 modifiers and one Tier 2 modifier, the Omen of Whittling wouldn't necessarily cause this modifier to be the one that is affected by the Chaos Orb. Instead, the way this Omen functions, is that it will reroll the modifier that appears at the lowest item level.
Here's an example in which you can see the the Omen of Whittling would cause the next Chaos Orb to change the Increased Critical Hit Chance for Spells. This modifier is Tier 2, but there are other Tier 2 modifiers, so why does it want to change this one?
If we take a look at the Mod Pool for Staves we can see a full list of the modifiers on this item, along with their modifier level (the item level required for this modifier to appear on an item)
Tier 2 Spell Crit Chance is a modifier level of 59, whereas the rest of the other Tier 2 modifiers on the item have different modifier levels - Tier 2 Damage as Extra Fire/Cold appears at item level 60, and Tier 2 Cast Speed appears at item level 70. Therefore, the Spell Crit modifier has the "lowest level modifier", despite it being the same tier as other modifiers on the item.
Omen of Catalysing Exaltation
The Omen of Catalysing Exaltation is a slight mystery in that its exact function isn't entirely known. This Omen will cause the next Exalted Orb to consume all Catalyst Quality on a Ring or Amulet to increase the chance of adding a modifier with a similar Tag.
For example, if you use Flesh Catalysts to increase the Quality of Life modifiers on a Ring, the next Exalted Orb used on the item (while the Omen of Catalysing Exaltation is active), increases your chance to slam on a Life-tagged modifier.
However, the mystery comes in when you realise that the amount that this chance is increased by isn't clear: it is still possible to use this Omen on a Ring with 20% Life Quality and Exalt on a modifier that doesn't have the Life Tag.
This Omen can be used as a gamble where the odds are improved, but because the exact improvement isn't known, it isn't entirely reliable
Other Crafting Omens
There are still more Omens used in Crafting, but these ones are less common and have either extremely niche effects, function on something other than Currency, but still relate to crafting, or are only used at the final step of crafting and can have either disastrous or incredible effects.
Ordinarily, there is a 1/4 chance that a Vaal Orb does nothing to an item other than adding the Corruption Tag - this Omen instead forces an outcome:
Brick: A non-Unique Item's modifiers are changed
Divine: Item's modifier values are rerolled - can be good or bad and can go over the usual maximim or minimum
Enchantment: the item gains an Enchantment
Socket: the item gains an additional Socket
Quality/Gem Level: increase or decrease a Gem's Level or Quality
Omen of the Ancients
Your next Orb of Chance will upgrade the Item to a random Unique of the same Item Class
The Omen of the Ancients will upgrade an item to a Unique of the same item class, but not necessarily the exact same base type. This means that you could change a Normal Heavy Belt into a Coward's Legacy - a Unique Mail Belt.
Omen of Chance
Your next Orb of Chance will not destroy the Item
The Omen of Chance guarantees that the next Orb of Chance will result in a Unique Item of the exact item base type. This is different from the Omen of the Ancients which will result in an item of the same Item Class, but not the same base. For example, this can be used to guarantee that a Heavy Belt is transformed into a Unique Heavy Belt (Headhunter being one of those), instead of a random Unique Belt of any type
Omen of Sanctification
Your next Divine Orb used on a Rare item will Sanctify it
Sanctifying an item will change the values of each modifier on an item to a random value between 80% and 120% of its usual. Each modifier will be rolled separately, meaning that some modifiers might go above their normal maximum, and others might roll below their usual minimum. This also adds the "Sanctified" tag, preventing any further crafting on that item.
Omen of Recombination
Your next Recombination is Lucky
This Omen is incredibly useful in that it can improve your odds for success when using the Recombinator. A "Lucky" roll is one that happens twice, and the best outcome is selected. This doesn't quite double your odds of success, but there is a formula for lucky rolls that varies how good this is based on the initial percentage chance of success
Dishonorable Mentions
Omen of the Blessed will cause your next Divine Orb to only reroll the Implicit Modifiers of an item and its existence borders on being offensive
Abyss Omens
There are also a series of Abyssal Omens that affect the function of Abyssal Bones. These are incredibly powerful and useful and their effects are discussed below.
