Overview

Attributes are character stats that are typically required to use specific gear or Skill Gems in Path of Exile 2.

Basic Mechanics

What are Attributes?

Attributes are counters that provide inherent basic stats by default, and are required to equip and use certain gear, Skills or Support Gems. There are 3 attributes: Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence.

  • Strength grants +2 to maximum Life per point
  • Dexterity grants +6 to Accuracy Rating per point
  • Intelligence grants +2 to maximum Mana per point

Each attribute has an alignment on both the Passive Skill Tree via classes and on gear items, detailed below.

  • Strength is tied to Armour gear, red-coloured Skill and Support Gems, and is the primary attribute for the Warrior class, starting at the bottom-left of the Passive Skill Tree. The adjacent classes: Mercenary, Duelist and Druid, also share Strength with another attribute as hybrid classes.
  • Dexterity is tied to Evasion gear, green-coloured Skill and Support Gems, and is the primary attribute for the Ranger and Huntress classes, starting at the bottom-right of the Passive Skill Tree. The adjacent classes: Mercenary, Duelist and Monk, also share Dexterity with another attribute as hybrid classes.
  • Intelligence is tied to Energy Shield gear, blue-coloured Skill and Support Gems, and is the primary attribute for the Witch and Sorceress classes, starting at the top of the Passive Skill Tree. The adjacent classes: Druid and Monk, also share Intelligence with another attribute as hybrid classes.

Class Starting Attributes

Each class begins with a specific allocation of attributes based on their location on the Passive Skill Tree and alignment to certain gear and Skill types.

Warrior

  • Strength: 15
  • Dexterity: 7
  • Intelligence: 7

Druid

  • Strength: 11
  • Dexterity: 7
  • Intelligence: 11

Witch

  • Strength: 7
  • Dexterity: 7
  • Intelligence: 15

Sorceress

  • Strength: 7
  • Dexterity: 7
  • Intelligence: 15

Monk

  • Strength: 7
  • Dexterity: 11
  • Intelligence: 11

Ranger

  • Strength: 7
  • Dexterity: 15
  • Intelligence: 7

Huntress

  • Strength: 7
  • Dexterity: 15
  • Intelligence: 7

Mercenary

  • Strength: 11
  • Dexterity: 11
  • Intelligence: 7

Duelist

  • Strength: 11
  • Dexterity: 11
  • Intelligence: 7

Support Gem Attribute Limit

The usage of Support Gems is limited by a character's total attributes. For every 5 of each attribute, a character is able to equip a single corresponding Support Gem in their Skill sockets. For example, for every 5 Strength a character has, they may use 1 red-coloured Support Gem.

  • Red (Strength)
  • Green (Dexterity)
  • Blue (Intelligence)

Passive Tree Travel Nodes: What Should You Pick?

The Passive Tree is made up of 'highway' nodes - small Passive Skills that connect the larger clusters together. Each of these small nodes can be customized upon allocation, allowing you to select which attribute you gain from that node. You can choose from:

  • +5 to Strength
  • +5 to Dexterity
  • +5 to Intelligence

You should generally use these nodes to facilitate the growth of your character by providing attributes to support their natural Skill Gem, Support Gem and gear requirements. For example a Warrior using a Mace may require more Strength to be able to use higher level versions of their Mace abilities, and therefore they can choose to select additional Strength when pathing along the Passive Skill Tree. Additionally you can select attributes early in progression that may allow you to use Skills or gear not traditionally aligned with your class, such as taking early Strength nodes on a Ranger to allow levelling with a Crossbow.

Tip: you can respec your attribute nodes by interacting with The Hooded One in the campaign, or Doryani in the endgame.

Interactions

Enhanced Effectiveness

The Gemling Legionnaire ascendancy for the Mercenary class has access to the Enhanced Effectiveness Notable which causes attributes to provide double their normal inherent bonuses at the cost of 20% less attribute scaling. When using this node, each attribute will grant:

  • Strength: +4 to maximum Life
  • Dexterity: +12 to Accuracy Rating
  • Intelligence: +4 to maximum Mana
