Monster Hunter WildsMizutsune Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Overview

Mizutsune was the first new monster being added to Monster Hunter Wilds as part of the First Free Title Update, which will be launched April 3rd PT / April 4 BST.

The Mizutsune hunt is available at HR 21 by speaking to Kanya, the NPC that grants the fishing quests.

Tempered Mizutsune appears when you are HR 41+ after completing the Mizutsune extra mission.

Mizutsune made its debut to the Monster Hunter franchise with Monster Hunter Rise.

This guide is written by PeanutWizard.

Location

Mizutsune's offiical location for Monster Hunter Wilds is still unknown but there's a good shot that it will be found in the Scarlet Forest based on the teaser video that showed it in a forest. It's also Water-based, so it might appear during the raining Inclemency.

How to Prepare

One crucial thing to note is Mizutsune’s unique abnormal status effect, Bubbleblight. Throughout the fight, Mizutsune’s attacks will emit bubbles that cover and float around the battlefield. Being hit by the bubbles will cause the Bubbleblight debuff to build stacks, starting as Minor Bubbleblight and building to Major Bubbleblight.

While Minor Bubbleblight is a positive buff that grants a boost to evasion, Major Bubbleblight is very disruptive. It will cause the hunter to slip and slide uncontrollably when attempting major movement actions, like dodging or attacking. This effect can be removed by consuming a Cleanser

Mechanics to Look Out For

Empowerment

Periodically throughout the fight, Mizutsune’s face will glow a brilliant blue during a roar. In this state, more bubbles will emit as blue and on fire, dealing increased damage and causing Fireblight buildup. Other moves like Claw Attack, and Water Blast will deal increased damage as well.

Body Slam

Mizutsune will rear up on its hind legs while raising up the rest of its body. After a few seconds, it plunges downward while shifting ahead a short distance. This move has a very large hitbox and will deal huge damage. Try to dodge when Mizutsune is at full windup height before the slam occurs.

Claw Attack

Mizutsune will throw one of its front claws over its head, shortly followed by trusting the majority of its body into the weight of the attack behind the raised claw as it comes barreling down, dealing heavy damage. Dodge underneath the raised claw as soon as you see the windup occurring to best avoid this attack.

Leap Spin

Mizutsune jumps back a tremendous distance, often accompanied with a whistle-like shriek. It will then leap towards the target whilst spinning violently. This attack deals large damage and will knock players back.

Tail Attacks

Mizutsune attacks more with its tail than most other monsters in the Monster Hunter Series. The tail attacks will come in three distinct flavors: an uppercut slap, a strong downward slam, and a sweeping 360 tail spin.

Water Jet Attacks

Mizutsune will shoot a highly pressurized stream of water from its mouth in one of the four patterns listed below. These attacks are both long-range and high damage, so try your best to be aware of and avoid them. The water beam is rather narrow and can be dodged with precise timing.

  • Vertical Water Jet Slice - Mizutsune will raise its head and tilt it towards the ground, shooting water downwards and then slowly rotating upwards.
  • Water Jet Turret - Mizutsune roots itself in place to shoot its water jet, slowly turning its head to sweep the stream across the whole of its frontal arc.

  • Spinning Water Jet - Mizutsune coils up and shoots its water jet whilst spinning rapidly.

Bubble Attacks

Mizutsune will release bubbles from its body as it attacks and maneuvers around the battlefield. These bubbles will stack Bubbleblight when you are hit by them, but they can be popped with attacks (both melee and ranged)

  • Bubble Breath - Mizutsune raises its head and shoots a sequence of bubbles from left to right (or right to left). It will usually follow up this move with an identical attack in the opposite direction.

  • Boisterous Bubble Breath - Mizutsune jumps backwards and launches a large, singular bubble that deals a moderate amount of damage. This bubble can still be popped.

  • Bubbly Spin - Mizutsune spins in place quickly and expels many bubbles that extend outwards while orbiting from its original position. These bubbles can be one of three colors:
    • Regular (White/Pink) - Will cause damage and stack Bubbleblight
    • Red - Will grant a damage buff
    • Green - Heals
