How to Fish: How to Beat Every Main Boss

Each island in How to Fish has a main boss that must be defeated to continue your journey. Before each encounter, you must complete an NPC quest or obtain the special bait needed to summon it.

This guide covers how to summon and defeat every main boss, from the Spider Crab to the Mutated Bowhead Whale. For a more detailed strategy, you can follow the complete boss guide linked beneath each section.

Purchase the Beer Can from the Lighthouse Keeper and give it back to him to receive the Empty Beer Can. Equip the can as bait and cast it into the water to summon the Spider Crab.

Wait for the boss to charge, then move sideways before it reaches you. The Spider Crab will become dizzy after missing, giving you time to move behind it and attack. Return its meat to the Lighthouse Keeper after the fight to receive the boat keys.

Collect three Leeches on the Forest Island and give them to the woman beside the lake. She will turn them into the Modified Leech required to summon the Giant Piranha.

Keep moving around the open area and dodge sideways whenever the boss lunges. Smaller Piranhas will also join the fight, but you only need to defeat the ones blocking your movement. Return the Giant Piranha Skeleton to the woman to receive the Desert Island coordinates.

Bring the Tourist an endangered creature to receive the Carrot. The Seahorse is confirmed to work and can be caught using the Standard Lure found on the Desert Island.

Cast the Carrot into the water, then use the nearby palm trees to block the Pufferfish’s rolling charges. Circle around the trees and attack while it turns or repositions. Later in the fight, avoid the purple poison it leaves behind. Return the Pufferfish Fin to the Tourist to unlock the Rocks Island coordinates.

Purchase the Professional Boss Lure on the Rocks Island and use it to catch a Tuna. Defeat the Tuna but do not sell, cook or eat it, as its body is needed to summon the Albatross.

Place the Tuna on dry ground near the shop and wait for the Albatross to arrive. Use the shop’s roof for protection when it attacks from above, then step out and fire after each pass. Collect the Albatross Head and return it to the islander to receive the Volcano Island coordinates.

Give five fish to the scientist on Volcano Island to receive the Fish Bucket. Use it to summon and defeat the regular Bowhead Whale, then carry its body up the wooden path and drop it into the volcano’s lava.

The Mutated Bowhead Whale can charge across the ground, jump into the air and scatter lava around the arena. Keep moving and sprint away from its landing area whenever it jumps. Attack immediately after a charge or body slam, then begin moving again before its next attack.
