How to Fish: How to Beat the Spider Crab

The Spider Crab is the first boss in How to Fish. Defeating it completes the Lighthouse Keeper’s opening quest and rewards you with the keys needed to use the boat.

Before starting the fight, you should have a weapon to survive the fight. If you need help earning money or choosing your first equipment, check out our How to Fish Beginner’s Guide.

Purchase the Beer Can from the Lighthouse Keeper and give it back to him. He will drink it and return the empty can, which can be used as a special lure.

Use the empty Beer Can with your fishing rod on the water to summon the Spider Crab. Prepare your weapon and make sure you have enough food before starting the fight.

The easiest way to damage the Spider Crab is to take advantage of its charge attack. Stay close enough for it to charge towards you, then move sideways before it connects.

After missing its charge, the Spider Crab will become dizzy and remain still for a short time. Move behind it and attack during this opening. Two or three hits are normally safe before you need to create space again.

Wait for another charge, dodge sideways and repeat the process until the Spider Crab is defeated.

Avoid running too far away from the boss. When there is too much distance between you, it can begin jumping towards you, making the fight slower and harder to control.

The white bar beneath the Spider Crab’s health is its escape timer. If this bar runs out before you defeat it, the boss will disappear and the encounter must be started again.

Keep attacking during every safe stun window, but do not stand directly in front of the boss and trade damage just to finish the fight faster because as you can see in the picture, it doesn't end well.

Collect the Spider Crab’s meat after defeating it and give it to the Lighthouse Keeper. This completes his quest and rewards you with the boat keys, allowing you to leave the starting island.
