Overview

Caligo, Miasma of Night (also known as Fissure in the Fog) is one of the Night Lords in Elden Ring Nightreign. This massive, ghostly dragon can use Ice sorceries and create ice pillars around the arena.

Caligo is a Night Lord Boss in Elden Ring Nightreign. It is a prehistoric dragon said to lurk in dense fog, appearing at times of doom.

First Phase

This boss mainly uses his freezing breath to attack players. It covers a wide area and can be rotated, so players are safest below him. He can also use his tail as a whip, quickly lashing out at players.

Caligo is surprisingly agile for his size, and can slide across the battlefield with ease, lunging at players while using his claws or breath to attack.

Fog

During first phase, Caligo will sometimes cover the area in dense mist, rendering players blind, and hiding across the area.

If this happens, listen to audio cues and run to him. After a delay, ice will fall from the area’s ceiling, damaging all players, except those directly below Caligo.

Phase Change

Caligo gains new flying attacks, as he is able to spit out freezing mist while on the air, as well as invoke ice meteors.

His attacks gain additional effects and cover the area with ice shards, too, but his moveset remains largely the same.

Chilling Wind

During the Second Phase, Caligo can cover the entire area in dense mist while disappearing again.

This time, though, you’ll need to find cover behind rocks and hide, as the boss will unleash a devastating wind attack spanning the whole arena. Coordinate with your allies to find cover and hide until the attack goes through.

How to Beat Everdark Sovereign Caligo (Fissure in the Fog): New Mechanics and Upgraded Old Attacks

Caligo's Everdark Sovereign fight features a new phase, covering the dragon in an icy armor and gaining access to more deadly attacks.

Caligo's moveset stays similar, focusing on wide AoE moves with occasional precise swipes and tail slams. Caligo can move around the arena often, so Nightfarers with high mobility and range, like Wylder and Ironeye, will have an easy time maneuvering around the fight. On the other hand, Nightfarers with access to Fire sorceries and incantations, such as Recluse and Revenant, will deal immense damage to Caligo while staying out of his immediate reach.

However, gaining the Favor of the Mountaintop during the Shifting Earth: Mountaintop is the best strategy against Caligo. This buff halves frostbite damage and frost buildup, and nearby frostbite boosts damage by 15% for a time. Players can conjure a specific Shifting Earth event by using the Collector's Signboard and spending 1 Sovereign Sigil.

Inside the Mountaintop, players will need to climb the icy mountain and get to the crystal at the peak to receive the Favor of the Mountaintop, avoiding the Mountaintop Ice Dragon boss while doing so. After getting the buff, taking on the Mountaintop bosses is far easier. Players can also kill the regular Dragon in the Mountaintops for a guaranteed Anti-dragon buff.

In its Everdark version, Caligo starts the fight directly in Phase 2, having access to its characteristic flight attacks, and covering the area with icy spikes. Players will need to stay on their toes and constantly reposition to avoid getting hit by Caligo's large AoE attacks, retaliating in between. After Caligo falls down to about 60% HP, it will enter Phase 3.

Fight Opener

Everdark Caligo will start the phase in the air, flying at players while throwing out ice chunks. Lock onto her when the mist clears, and move forward. When she starts flying towards you, unlock your camera and surge sprint forwards, moving underneath her.

Look behind you when your stamina regenerates, then keep surge sprinting in the same direction. Her attacks will miss and you will end up right in front of her head for a free punish.

Phase 3

Caligo will summon a dark cloud and begin channeling a wide AoE attack around itself, so players must run away in time. After she completes the channel, Caligo will enter its Everdark phase, gaining ice armor and more deadly attacks.

After doing the phase transition attack, Caligo will always do the 'Crystal Blizzard' attack, and finally, the 'Flying Ice Shards' attack, always in that order.

Ice Armor

Everdark Caligo's gimmick is being covered with an icy armor. While it is active, players will continuously gain Frostbite, dealing significant damage and lowering their attack.

Players should aim to destroy the armor by hitting Caligo's different body parts: Head, legs, tail, and wings. Once the armor has been destroyed in several body parts, Caligo will be staggered and take increased damage for a while, before re-applying the ice armor with the phase transition attack. It is advised to save character ultimate arts for when the armor is down to maximize damage.

Crystal Blizzard

Caligo will use this move immediately after entering Phase 3, and after reapplying its ice armor when it's destroyed too. After flying a short distance, Caligo will summon and destroy a dark crystal, causing a wide AoE blizzard in the vicinity that grows over time. Players can safely get away from the attack by running away as soon as the crystal appears.

This attack will leave a lingering blizzard effect on the arena for as long as Caligo has her ice armor, causing players to continuously proc Frostbite ailment.

Flying Ice Shards

Everdark Caligo gains access to a more powerful version of its flying attack, where it'll launch large ice spikes in a larger area. Players must dodge continuously as Caligo flies by, but it is possible to get hit by stay ice shards in between rolls, so it is safest to roll into Caligo.

The boss can perform this move multiple times before finally crashing into a player, turning around, and releasing an Ice shard barrage. For this last move, it is advised to run directly into Caligo, as the shards do not hit below her.

Ice Breath Combo

Everdark Caligo gains access to a new combo where she uses her frontal ice breath first, then lunges at a player, and finally sprays ice breath in a 360-degree circle around her, leaving behind ice chunks. Finally, she performs a tail slam, causing all ice chunks to explode.

This combo can be difficult to read, since the frontal ice breath must be avoided by running to her sides, while the subsequent attacks are best avoided by standing directly beneath the boss.

Double Tail Swipe

Everdark Caligo gains access to a double tail swipe attack. First, she will coil her tail around her body, and unleash a horizontal swipe. After a brief delay, she'll perform a 180-degree swipe in another direction. Both swipes leave behind ice crystals that explode after a brief delay.

Larger Ice Spikes

Caligo's attacks leave lingering ice spikes on the ground, causing frostbite buildup when stepping over them. In its Everdark phase, the spikes are larger and cause more Frostbite buildup, so it is advised to avoid fighting near them because they can cause unexpected Frostbite procs resulting in death.
