Overview

Adel is one of the Nightlords in Elden Ring Nightreign. It has a body resembling a malformed drake, with a massive jaw that he can fully open and rotate. Most of its attacks come from its mouth, but it can also employ gravitational magic to fly and do AoE damage with wide ranges.

This Nightlord’s gimmick is that it can change target in-between its animations: It will target whoever attacks it. Even when pretending to focus on another player, Adel can shift focus and immediately attack you instead.

First Phase

Most of Adel’s attacks are slow and telegraphed, but he can shift targets in the blink of an eye. Adel can cover a wide area when it opens it mouth, so be careful.

Adel’s most characteristic attacks include dragging his mouth across the field and slamming its head to the ground.

Head Slam

Adel will lift its head high up in the air and roar before slamming its head down, creating AoE rubble on impact. Time your dodge or jump to avoid this attack.

Double Bite

Adel steps forward and opens its mouth. It will try to bite you twice. Dodge either to the side or into the attack to avoid it.

Poison Weakness

When Adel gets poisoned in its first phase, it will stand still and start puking. This will leave it open to attacks from you and your team. Avoid the goo it pukes to not get damaged yourself.

Grab

A distinct sound effect will play, and Adel will gain blue particle lines on the sides of its mouth. The sound and blue color indicate a grab attack is coming!

Adel will raise its mouth high in the air, then slam it down and after a slight delay it will try to grab you.

You have to time the dodge (in any direction) to avoid this. Getting a perfect dodge will deal some stance damage to the boss.

First Phase Rage

After Adel falls below 75% approximately, it will roar and become enraged. It deals more damage, and its attacks are more agile, lunging at players and dashing around the arena.

It can be difficult to retaliate, as you’d need to follow him. Instead, lure it in between all players so it can’t run away.

If Adel catches you with its jaws, it will cause a grab attack, inducing Blood Loss that can kill low-HP players.

Furthermore, the boss can perform multi-attack combos while enraged, so be careful and create distance from it.

Enraged Head Slam

When enraged, Adel will throw out 3 head slams instead of 1. Try to dodge in way to end up behind the boss to more easily avoid the 2 follow up slams.

Second Phase

When Adel reaches 50% HP, it will roar and stomp while invoking gravitational magic in a wide area around itself, damaging players within.

Afterward, it will perform one of his new attacks in phase two: Adel can briefly fly and dive bomb into any player, causing the ground to explode after a brief delay. Keep an eye out and dodge twice to avoid massive damage.

During this phase, Adel can also generate purple animations that can obscure his attacks. Players should lure the Boss out and stay cautious, as its attacks are very difficult to dodge.

Furthermore, some of its jaw attacks gain AoE damage, and cause lightning to fall around the area they hit.

Second Phase Rage

During the second phase, Adel will enter its enraged state once more, gaining the same attacks as in the First Phase Rage and some new ones. Particularly, its combos are longer and its attacks more unpredictable.

Double Grab

When enraged during phase 2, Adel will be able to throw out 2 grab attacks in a row. Watch out for the sound effect, and be ready to dodge twice!

Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw: New Mechanics and Upgraded Old Attacks

If you're facing the Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw, Adel now starts in his second phase from the get-go. This means most of his attacks are a lot faster, more chaotic, and he has his thunder aftershock attacks.

He will always start the fight with his dive bomb attack.

No More Vomit

Adel's main weakness was poison; it still is. But this time around, he will not vomit when he gets poisoned. This means it's a lot harder to get free damage on him.

Thunder Slam

Adel would sometimes slam his face into the ground, which would be followed by lightning aftershocks like with his dive bomb attack. This time, however, he can also do this 3 times in a row, which makes it a lot harder to dodge since the timings will be different.

Grab Damage

From testing, every time he grabs you, the bleed will go through, even with high resistance against it, meaning the grabs punish a lot more by making you take a lot more damage.

Phase 3

Adel now has an entirely new phase, which I will call phase 3 for understanding. He starts this off between 50%-60% HP and will always start with a yell, after which he will disappear at lightning speed.

He gets new attacks during this phase, is faster, and moves around more. He also gets more resistance and becomes harder to kill.

Triple Lightning Grab

Adel will yell, after which he goes for a lightning speed attack, followed by 2 very fast grab attacks, which can be hard to dodge if you don't reposition yourself. These attacks also do damage around him.

Tornado

This is his most dangerous new attack, and it changes the fight entirely. When Adel wants to, he does his lightning roar, after which he will fly into the air, disappearing. After a delay, he will crash down, which summons a storm. You need to get inside this storm with Spring Steps. If you don't, you will continuously take damage as if you are in the night storm. This makes the fight very tricky since the arena becomes a lot smaller.
