Overview

AmonSlip N' Dip Amon Amon

"Amon cant use guns well" is utter nonsense - and gets repeated all over the community. But the sentiment has held despite several iterations of this build being used by multiple different creators.

This build is True UVH6 Bloomreaper ready!

Slip N Dip is the proud owner of one of the World's Fastest Bloomreaper Kills!!

Huge shoutout to Lorandb for pulling off an INSANE 35.45 second kill!!!!

Slip N Dip Amon has been out since week two and served as the baseline for all standard Amon gun builds. The build has only received indirect buffs and is still absolutely SHREDDING what little content Gearbox has given us. Pushing Berserk can get you you up to OVER 1000% BONUS DAMAGE on your guns or melee damage. This bonus damage benefits from Amp and On Shot bonuses as well so you can really make this skill hit for some enormous numbers.

Key Gameplay aspects:

  • Enormous burst damage through Force of Nature. Deal a high damage shot, use your Forge Skill to set off the detonation and obliterate anything on the receiving end.
  • Playing on TUVH6? Press F and lunge towards them to clean up with Groundbreaker.
  • Berserk allows for a very flexible weapon array
  • An engaging gameplay loop with high action skill uptime
  • Huge cryo bonus damage that will overpower any heath bar you see
  • Additional Fire Damage on tap to deal with Elemental Eaters
  • SHOOT - PUNCH - SWING A GIANT SWORD - live out your fantasy of being an elemental paladin in Borderlands

AMON DAMAGE FORMULA

GENERAL DAMAGE FORMULA

Cheat Sheet to understanding the Girthese

  • Soup - the additive bucket most buffs go into. Gun, Skill, Elemental, Debuff, Crit, and many other buffs are soup and simply add together in the formula. Meaning this category can easily get diminished.
  • Good Soup - when a buff gets used in a way that makes it stronger than it would insinuate, or is simply a good value per point spent
  • Double/Triple Dip - when an instance of damage is based on a previous instance of damage and your formula is applied twice, or 3 times. This is where Amon's big power comes from.
  • Rain Dance - the multiple steps that Amon sometimes has to do before damage is easily available. In opposition to how Vex tends to simply drop in and shoot.
    • Many more terms and explanations can be found in the guide linked below:

THEORYCRAFTING RESOURCES AND LINKS

Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Fast paced mobbing
  • Fundamental build mechanics that allow you to expand on weapon choice
  • Skill based build. The better you are the more fun it gets.
  • HUGE bossing damage.
  • "Min Maxed for 1 shot" versions of this build can hit for 10s of billions - you can confidently say you're running the strongest build in Borderlands 4
  • Your Fish are patricidal
  • cryo elemental eaters slow the pace of the fight down
  • All versions have their preferred weapon type.

Build Variants

The main generalist spec. This variant synergizes best with Dragon's Breath friendly weapons but once Berserk gets rolling it can clear anything on True UVH6 with your favorite guns. VERY Hot Slugger friendly build. Truck, Darkbeast, Chuck, and Goalkeeper are some of my favorites. Mixing in Torgue Mag weapons and an Airburst Enhancement will make mobs seems like wet tissues. This strategy synergizes great with guns like Broken Wings, TK's Wave, and Shalashashka.

This is truly a use any gun spec. If you want to make it work on UVH6 you can. The Force of Nature into Groundbreaker Triple Dip is enough damage that outside of True Mode

THIS IS AN ENDGAME BUILD - YOU NEED GROUNDBREAKER TO COMPLETE IT AND BENEFIT GREATLY FROM RIDDLE YOU THIS, I AM A GUN, AND BULLET TRAIN!!!

Calamity

Onslaughter

Force of Nature

  • This is where the bossing damage comes from on Amon gun builds. This skill is the most well made one in Borderlands 4. It works by storing 10 individual hits and then turning them into 1 Action Skill Damage Explosion

Stormcutter

  • Stormcutter allows for Onslaughter maintenance and regen. Hit 4 enemies with it at once and you'll have your action skill back.
  • Hoarcleave will count bosses as Frozen and if you know what you're doing you can use it to add 100% soup to Groundbreaker. It is quite a sweat to pull off and realistically most weapons that deliver their payload in a short enough time for you to take advantage of will already end the fight quickly regardless. If they ever drop a 5 billion health boss this may be an optimization to look at.

Top Tree

What Burns Within

  • This skill will provide Incendiary Soup. This soup gets double dipped on Dragons Breath shots into Force of Nature and Triple Dipped when Raging Inferno is specced. Good Soup.

Impetus

  • Shield regen helps with Amp uptime and the extra move speed is both comfy and good CC

Gut Punch

  • Provides Weaken - which is a unique status effect that is identical to All Damage Dealt stat in formula, but this Status Effect will also trigger Primal Surge. Good Soup.

Forged In Steel

  • Immunity allows Amon to do his Bossing Rain Dances comfortably. It also makes him a tank when you focus on Hoarcleave/Stormcutter spam. This skill is instrumental in proper use

Bullet Storm

  • Provides gun soup for Amon. While the number is small he has very little to begin with so it has some impact

The Best Defense

  • 1 point wonder that gives overshield on Slippy & Forgeskill hits to get Watts rolling as well as keep you alive

LEFT BRANCH

Berserk

  • Force of Nature is the cornerstone to the bossing of this build and Berserk is the foundation. This bonus Element is what makes this build so potent. It applies to guns and melee damage as it is but the main aspect we need is that it gets buffed by There Is Only Red. At 10/5 its only 60% skill damage on what it accompanies. But TIOR buffs that up to 420% before formula!

Bloodlust

  • Just for moving down the tree, but it does help survive a bit in bossing

There Is Only Red

  • A Kill Skill that increases the value of Berserk from 6% per point up to 42% per point. This easily makes Berserk = TIOR Amon's most powerful asset in a gun build

My Touch Is Death

  • The glue holding the pieces of this build together. This skill allows Slippy to trigger all of your kill skills. Including There Is Only Red, meaning you can have the full Berserk value up almost immediately in bossing despite it calling for 10 kills.

RIGHT BRANCH

Catastrophe

  • Provides global crit chance as well as crit soup
    • NOTE - the shock aspect is currently bugged an cannot build multiple stacks on one target. You are only ever getting 5% crit chance vs bosses before mobs appear to be shocked.
    • The Fire portion of the skill works fine and provides good crit soup.

Dragon's Breath

  • A powerful skill at just 1 point. This skill converts your bullet to Incendiary Gun & Skill Damage
    • The damage portion is Amp and adds with other sources, which is why only 1 point is specced
    • Converting the bullet to be Gun & Skill damage allows you to double dip Skill soup on Force of Nature and Triple Dip it on Groundbreaker
    • Bonus Damage that gets both Gun and Skill will get 2x skill soup on these converted shots. This is a game-wide mechanic.

Fists of Stone

  • FoS being one of the biggest pick ups in the level 60 update. This skill allows you loop Stormcutter with Slippies by regenning its cooldown when melee damage is dealt.
    • Stormcutter activates Berserk -> Slippy regens Stormcutter -> Stormcutter regens Onslaughter -> Gameplay loop cycles

Cybernetics

Executioner

  • This Skill is what's called "Skill Crit". All Skill Crit is actually 2x what the listed value is. Meaning if it says 10% its actually 20% soup. Outside of that Crit Damage is identical to debuff or any other soup formula-wise. Both are on hit and apply to anything when the condition is met.
    • Slippy will meet the conditions to double Executioner's value
    • Listed 20% becomes 40%, in formula that's actually 80% soup that can be double/triple dipped. Good Soup.

Gathering Storm

  • Regular elemental soup. Gets Double Dipped on Force of Nature and applies to the Berserk on the Triple Dipped Groundbreaker. Good Soup.

Vengeance

Battleborn

  • Gun Soup. Generic Gun soup converts through I Am A Gun into Skill Damage.
  • Generic Gun Damage is extremely impactful here, so despite Battleborn not always being at max it still has impact. Amon has very little soup so any bit helps.

The Thrill

  • Solid Healing that does a great job at keeping Amon alive without being so overpowered it feels cheap

Tail of the Comet

  • TOTC dots are skill damage, so while the damage profile at 1/5 is very low it does build the Skillcraft 3/3 to max passively. 1 point is all that's needed

Eternal

  • Needed to moved down the tree, this provides a bit of QOL to the build which at this point is well received

Machinist

  • The final piece to the puzzle. My Touch Is Death triggers Machinist which allows Slippy to regen itself and continue the loop.
    • This skill allows the loop to sustain. Previous specs ran out of steam when the Slippy stream ended. While this wasn't an issue due to a burst style of DPS, the QOL and sustain of Forgeskills and Action Skill lets you be a bit more free with weapon choice since you can always reset the loop.

Equipment

Weapons
Repkit & Ordnance
Utilities

Shields

Watts 4 Dinner for permanent shock bonus damage and HUGE survivability

Guardian Angel is a solid replacement to Watts and on certain weapons may beat it out depending on the ROF of the gun and how quickly you regen your shields. This is the least used option though.

Protean Cell is the perfect option for weapons that don't benefit from Amp such as Tediore Reloads or Torgue Stickies

Repkit

Triple Bypass - the effects you choose for mobbing are inconsequential. to the point where I typically leave my amp repkit on. However if you wish to push Onslaughter uptime a Triple Bypass with accelerator on it can have you back in seconds WITHOUT the need for mobs.

  • A purple with Amp & and either Enrage or Elemental Damage is ideal for bossing
    • Stickies, Tediore Reloads, and high ROF weapons get little to no benefit out of Amp

Ordnance

Slippy procs My Touch Is Death and is a cornerstone of the build. This is non negotiable.

Class Mod

Shatterwight provides points in Berserk, pushing the skill to 420% base at 10/5 and 10 stacks of There is only Red. The static Cryo passive then applies to that 420%. Skill damage is the ideal 2nd passive.

Furnace with 5 points in Raging Inferno can hit higher peaks but is less consistent. Instead of GB for a follow up you gamble on a DOT. This is the premise of Slip N Rage.

Enhancements

Enhancement Choices are HUGELY IMPACTFUL in how well the gun in your hands performs!!! DO NOT SLEEP ON THEM!!!! You can make almost any gun work on UVH6 by equipping the right Enhancement.

    • I am aware that this isn't ideal for Inventory reasons. But for Peak Optimizations you'll want to swap around depending on the situation. We're in the business of doing damage, 1 size fits all means less optimal. If you are not concerned about peak optimizations then Jakobs Piercer and Torgue Airburst are your workhorses. Tediore Banger, Banger + Digi Divider if you're lucky.

This Framework will allow you to slot in whatever Enhancement is best for the situation at hand. Gear power is immensely impactful in Borderlands 4, Amps and Enhancements being the most obvious examples

TORGUE AIR BURST + HEADRINGER

(Pumper)

Competes for BIS at dense mobbing and some specific bosses

This Enhancement use in combination with High Caliber at 3/3 is one of the most powerful combinations for mobbing in Borderlands 4. Broken Wings, Shalashaska, Truck, and many other weapons benefit greatly from the combo. The more Torgue Gyrojets in the air the better.

High Cal 3 piercing projectiles that work with Airburst will create phantom explosions as they pass by a target. Typically the projectile would stop here. When used with High Cal 3 it continues on and will actually create these explosions.

This same interaction can be used to effectively neutralize Ordonite/Vile Crystals as well. This strategy was responsible for the first Stone Demon 1 shot.

Weapons to use with Air Burst:

Shalashaska, Broken Wings, Truck, T.K's Wave, Boomslang, Birt's Bees, Spread Launcher

JAKOBS PIERCER

Good all around with emphasis on Bossing 1 shots

A straight forward effect, the 20% chance to autocrit is appreciated anywhere. The piercer effect is "On Shot Crit Chance" meaning when it procs it will also force ALL bonus damage applied to that bullet to crit as well. This is extremely potent when the bonus damage is as large as Berserk can be.

The 20% chance holds it back from being best in slot but its also extremely flexible and applicable in any situation. Best as an extra effect on a Bounce Pass or Sequencer

The crit chance behaves strangely with Underbarrels that hit multiple times. It does not force every needle tick on Rooker to crit, for example. You only get the first 2 as auto crits. In typical BL4 fashion this is pure benefit to Spread Launcher though. Common Splauncher W.

Weapons to use with Piercer:

ANYTHING Jakobs or Jakobs parted can make good use of this. Lower ROF weapons do turn into gambling, but the damage increase on a proc is substantial for any build that doesn't have 100% crit chance for guns and skills both.

JAKOBS BOUNCE PASS

The other competitor for BIS mobbing and also works well on some specific builds for bossing

The additional ricochets can turn an already powerful effect into an oppressive flurry of bullets. On top of the obvious benefits from extra ricochets in mobbing this can also be leveraged in bossing.

If no other targets are present Jakobs ricochets shoot straight downward and can damage the initial target with enough radius. Bounce pass helps with an extra ricochet in the mix. This isn't applicable on all bosses depending on size or mobility, but can be fun when it is allowed to play.

Weapons to use with Bounce Pass:

Hot Slugger, Flash Cyclone, Darkbeast, Goalkeeper, Seventh Sense, Complex Root, Spread Launcher

ATLAS TRACKER ANTENNA + PROTRACTOR

(Y-Z Nexus)

Bossing DPS & Sticky Application

Almost entirely for bossing, however once acquired the effects provides can drastically increase DPS in your rotation making its niche use and difficult acquisition WORTH IT. This build lacks in meaningful rate of fire buffs so anything adding is an instant jump in power. Coupled with ammo regen this Enhance is shockingly potent when used in Amon's raindance.

Best used with Atlas Infinum firmware to mitigate the raindance steps and needing to time your amp.

Weapons to use with Y-Z Nexus:

T.K's Wave with stickies, Complex Root, any weapon that has slow projectile speed, a strange pattern, or stickies can benefit from this combo. Atlas Infinum + Protractor allows for some sticky shenanigans as well. This combo will take a T.K's Wave and propel it well past a Shrapnel Cannon underbarrel on anyone not named Rafa.

TEDIORE BANGER + DIGI DIVIDER

(Quencher)

Bossing

Tediores are funny lil guns that do WAY more damage than most people realize. Their delivery profile synergizes perfectly with Amon's Force of Nature in the same way that burst-y 1 shot underbarrels do. Throw your gun, throw your sword, throw yourself. EZPZ boss blips. Banger and Get Throwin are huge formula for your Tediore reloads. Always run this enhance with 1 in Get Throwin'. These 2 fall into the same category and together are pure mult to Tediore Chucks.

NOTE:

2 Types of Tediore Reloads stand head and shoulders above the rest when its an option -
Shooting Reload & Shooting Replicator Reloads.

These 2 types of reloads get 3x to all generic gun damage bonuses on the reload impact. The bullets they shoot out are just normal bullets that get On Shot and On Hit buffs but not Amp.

Mantra bullets are melee but the impact is not.

Weapons to use with Banger:

All with Shooting/Shooting Replicator when available:

Laser Disker, Inscriber, Mantra, Murmur, Ruby's Grasp, Chuck

Weapons to use once the Tediore bug is fixed:

T.K's Wave, Bubbles, Hair Trigger, multi projectile weapons and shotguns in general.

WHATS THE TEDIORE BUG GIRTHQUAKE?????

Ever noticed Torgue Stickies are....nuts? There's a bug affecting both Stickies and Tediore reloads. Its a HUGE gain for Stickies and a HUGE loss for Tediores. Both of these items take the weapon's projectile count into consideration when formulating the output of their special effects. The Sticky Mult at the bottom of the weapon card is partially determined by projectile count and Tediore reloads account for ALL projectiles on the card when determining the thrown gun's damage.

Simply put:

NORMALLY the sticky mult has "divided by projectile count" and Tediore reloads have a "multiplied by projectile count". Currently that number is 1 for both formulas, so the Sticky mult is being divided by 1 and Tediore reload damage is being multiplied by 1.

The Sticky Bod with 3% stickies and 5 projectiles? Its actually 15% stickies and 5 projectiles.

The Shooty Gun TK's with 6000 x 10? It's reload calc only sees the 6000, it ignores 90% of your card damage. If you see JoeForLong tell him it will be ok......

Firmware

Repkit & Ordnance
Repkit FirmwareSkillcraft
Ordnance FirmwareSkillcraft
Utilities
Class Mod FirmwareHigh Caliber
Shield FirmwareHigh Caliber
Enhancement FirmwareHigh Caliber

The above is the generalist loadout. Skillcraft 2 and High Cal 3 will handle most things before min-maxxing.

FIRMWARE COMBOS:

High Caliber 3/3 + Skillcraft 2/3

  • Between synergy with Air Burst and Splash Damage bossing - High Cal 3 is probably the top all around firmware in the game. It allows you to make the most out of Air Burst by allowing your bullets to pass through the enemies and cause phantom explosions as they do. Densely packed groups get obliterated.
  • Splash Damage shots can be doubled up on by shooting through the boss and downward. The shot will hit once then again when it explodes on the ground.

Skillcraft 3 + High Caliber 2/3

  • Berserk and Dragon's Breath shots being skill damage means this Firmware puts in A LOT of work. Despite being the generalist loadout it can clear all content. High Cal 2 being the most effective 2/3 we can pull for a generalist outlook. If the weapons don't benefit from the other firmware specifically this is probably your best bet.
  • Tail of the Comet acts as a 1 point wonder and builds Skillcraft 3 up during bossing very quickly

Atlas Infinum 3/3 + Skillcraft 2/3

  • Atlas Infinum is one of the most underrated Firmware sets out there, between the On Shot buff and the Fire Rate buff simply having 2/3 is a nice boon to any Atlas parted weapon. The 3rd bit allows for a comfy an easy raindance rather than trying to squeeze DPS (and amp - Trackers consume an amped shot) into a short window.

Get Throwin 1/3 + Heating Up 1/3 + Skillcraft 3/3

  • This is for Tediore chuckin'. Put the Get Throwin' Firmware on your Banger enhancement since the only time you'll want it is for Tediore Reloads. Heating Up 1/3 is 20% reload speed which does affect the speed you throw your gun. Skillcraft 3 soup is nice but really 2 is the main draw for crit chance on the Detonation and Groundbreaker

Specialization

Specialization 1Bullet Train
Specialization 2Riddle You This
Specialization 3I Am A Gun
Specialization 4Groundbreaker

Bullet Train and Riddle You This are both generic gun damage, something that Amon lacks. Despite the values being low, his lack of Gun Damage in tree means the impact is large. These 2 spec ranks give about as much gun damage a his whole current skill tree does otherwise.

Riddle You This will be stacked by any Bonus Damage that gets Gun Damage as well. IE Watts4Dinner or Protean Cell on your bullets. Having those shields active will give 2 stacks per bullet.

Generic gun damage also funnels into Skill Damage through I Am A Gun.

  • Note that Enhancement Gun Damage or any other form of "On Shot" Gun Damage does NOT apply to I Am A Gun. Most base game Legendary Effects are On Shot Gun Damage. DLC weapons tend to have pure mults and Pearls provide "On Shot Soup". Yeah that's a thing too. Join Soup Kitchen if you're curious because it's too much to explain here.
  • Things that multiply gun damage do NOT pass that trait onto the converted Skill Damage. IE The Bod's 5x skill damage does NOT apply to I Am A Gun
  • Specific Weapon Type Boosts on Classmods are Soup like generic but do NOT funnel into I Am A Gun

What this Translates to is that most Generic Gun Damage boosts are good soup.

Groundbreaker

Oh boy is this a skill. Groundbreaker is the final piece to the DPS rotation puzzle. This skill stores all Gun, Ordnance, and Action Skill damage that Amon dealt in the last 5 seconds. A melee strike will then deliver 20% of that stored damage as a separate Melee/Skill instance of damage.

Melee/Skill

MELEE

Berserk applies to melee damage. So that ENORMOUS Bonus Element that's completely carrying gun performance on this build can also apply to this Triple Dipped monstrosity of a skill.

You build up your Force of Nature stacks and set them off with a Forgeskill for the full detonation damage. If you're quick enough you can Rocketpunch to the enemy to deliver that Groundbreaker and store your gunshots TWICE.

  • Force of Nature stores the 10 strongest gun hits. Sets them off as Action Skill Damage.
  • Groundbreaker stores all applicable damage in 5 seconds.
  • Both Gun Damage AND Action Skill Damage are applicable to Groundbreaker as stored damage.
  • Store Gun Shot impacts as FON
  • Set off FON
  • If those 2 things are done in a quick enough succession the gun shots will be store by both Force of Nature AND Groundbreaker. The Force of Nature explosions ALSO stored those same gunshots - but then applied to Groundbreaker too.
  • Your Groundbreaker is both a double dip and a triple dip AT THE SAME TIME in this situation
  • Since Groundbreaker is Melee now we apply over 1000% bonus cryo damage to that instance after formula.
  • At full tilt these numbers get too big to be measured by the target dummies. The Berserk on your Groundbreaker can hit for well into the billions.

Gameplay

BOSSING

The loop is simple. Melee hits proc My Touch is Death to build up Berserk so you have damage.

  1. Activate Onslaughter
  2. Use Forgeskill to activate Berserk
  3. Throw Slippies at the enemy. These Trigger My Touch Is Death, Executioner, and Fists of Stone
  4. Shoot he enemy
  5. Use your Forgeskill again to set off your Force of Nature
  6. Rocket Punch over to finish.

PRE BOSS FIGHT:

1. Use amp and Slam for Protean if you need.

"Amon is so complicated"

Id like to point out that the only extra steps compared to other VH's are using your Forgeskill in 2 and 5.

Other vault hunters are using action skills, throwing crit knives, shooting, and hitting Groundbreaker. If the process seems intimidating just remember that, its almost the same process just with a bit more meaning behind it, and WAY more damage. Not even Powercreep The Vault Hunter was able to dethrone Amon's total damage crown. The least important one..... 😢

MOBBING

Use your Forgeskill once then begin killing. If you run into a bad ass just throw some slippies at him for a quick bump.

Stormcutter in conjunction Slippy & Machinist work in tandem to maintain the loop. As long as you're throwing these Swords and Fish your skills will stay up and your DPS will maintain. Even without maintaining Onslaughter you can still clear quickly and efficiently with just Slippy spam and Berserk.

Having trouble? Practice fishing!

Getting good fish throws is the key to fast bossing. You need There Is Only Red up at 10 stacks to maximize your Berserk damage.

Throw your Fish UNDER OR INSIDE THE BOSSES when possible. You want them to hit in cracks and crevices so the bounces happen rapidly.

Slippy Fish will move until the either reach height or contact something. By reducing the amount of headroom they have to bounce you speed up the delivery of their hits. Faster hits means faster stacks means smoother rain dance. Learning to place your fish either underneath the boss or in a location where they bounce quickly is a huge gain to this builds performance.

Examples:

Inceptus - Throw the fish underneath him when he does his tail stab mobe

Timekeeper Phase 2 - Throw them at his ankle where hes gets hit by both the ground explosion and the bounces.

Radix - Throw them either in the crook of his knee or armpit. They hit, bounce up then down almost immediately, then fall down to the ground.
