Leona Arbiter Vanguard 1g

[Link to Champion Page]
Leona's Shield of Daybreak ability grants her a Shield before bashing her target, dealing magic damage and stunning them. CC is always welcome, especially on a 1-cost, making Leona stand out among other early units.
Nasus Space Groove Vanguard 1g

[Link to Champion Page]
Nasus can transform for a duration with his "Groovin' Susan" ability, temporarily increasing his max Health while dealing magic damage each second to enemies within range. During the effect, Nasus is in The Groove.
Overall a pretty standard early game frontliner. However, viability aside, he clearly has the best ability name in the set.
Mordekaiser Dark Star Channeler Vanguard 2g

[Link to Champion Page]
Mordekaiser is a menace on the frontlines thanks to his Indestructible ability. This creates an ever-expanding Shield that scales with AP, while also dealing magic damage to nearby enemies.
Any Shield that remains becomes converted into healing, further aiding Mordekaiser's survival. As a Vanguard, Mordekaiser is gonna be a really tough champion to break through.
Illaoi Anima Vanguard Shepherd 3g

[Link to Champion Page]
Illaoi is a simple tank that can deal AoE magic damage, gain a Shield, and drain Health from nearby enemies. Not a bad set of effects, especially on top of having three traits.
It's nothing splashy, but nonetheless a solid choice to help flexibly support your team early on.
Nunu Stargazer Vanguard 4g

[Link to Champion Page]
Nunu's Calamity ability Shields, then summons an astrolabe that crashes down on the largest cluster of foes within range. Afterwards, Nunu shoves it towards the edge of the board, dealing more damage and knocking up all enemies hit.
AoE CC is definitely a premium, making Nunu a very good choice among tanky frontliners.
Blitzcrank Party Animal Space Groove Vanguard 5g

[Link to Champion Page]
Blitzcrank passively calls down bolts that strike the highest Health foe within range. As for his active, Party Crasher summons a disco ball at the most enemies, then he uppercuts his target to knock them up.
Afterwards the target crashes down into the ball and deals AoE magic to those within range, putting Blitzcrank into The Groove for a duration (based on the number of foes hit).
All of that alone makes Blitzcrank quite solid, but Party Animal takes him to a whole new level. Once each combat, after dropping below 45% Health, he becomes untargetable and repairs max Health each second.
Once he returns to full Health (or if all allies die), he re-enters combat in The Groove for the rest of the fight, AND passively fires bolts four times as fast.
Blitzcrank is nuts, and will certainly cause a scene once he arrives!
