Set 17 introduces one of the biggest shakeups we’ve seen in TFT with the Space Gods mechanic, completely replacing the traditional carousel system with Space God encounters.
With this shift, early game decisions and trait optimization matter more than ever, and that’s exactly where Rhaast comes in.
Rhaast is a 3-cost frontline carry that thrives in flexible boards, scaling his power based on how well you build around traits. This makes him one of the most interesting and versatile units in Set 17.
In this guide, we’ll break down how Rhaast works, what makes him strong, and how you should be thinking about playing around him.
Make sure to keep this Guide open to follow along in-game and let Rhaast gain that free LP for you!
Rhaast is a 3-cost Redeemer unit that functions as a sustain heavy frontline bruiser. Unlike traditional tanks, he doesn’t just soak damage, he actively heals, disrupts, and scales with your overall board.
Synergies - Redeemer
What makes Rhaast unique is his Redeemer synergy, which rewards you for playing a wide variety of traits rather than stacking a single vertical. For every non unique trait active, your team gains bonus stats like Attack Speed and resistances, turning Rhaast into a scaling enabler for your entire board.
This means:
He’s strongest in flex boards with multiple traits active
He scales naturally into the mid and even late game
He can be added to reroll comps making them even stronger
Ability - Alien Scythe
Rhaast’s ability is what defines his identity as a frontline carry.
He gains damage reduction and healing over a short duration, allowing him to survive burst damage and stabilize fights. After that, he slashes forward in a line, dealing physical damage to enemies hit and knocking them up briefly.
Key things to understand about his ability:
Sustain: The healing makes him extremely hard to kill, especially with items
Disruption: The knock-up can delay enemy carries and frontline
Scaling: Benefits heavily from AD and durability stats
Positioning: Best placed centrally to hit multiple units with the slash
Overall, Rhaast’s ability allows him to act as both a primary tank and secondary damage dealer, making him incredibly hard to deal with.
Rhaast can be built either as a Full tank or a secondary damage dealer.
Tank Build
The traditional tank setup with Warmog’s Armor, Bramble Vest, and Dragon’s Claw can make Rhaast extremely hard to take down, especially when combined with the healing and durability from his ability, as well as the additional resistances granted by his Redeemer synergy.
He's pretty flexible with tank items so even Sunfire cape, Steadfast Heart and Protector's Vow will all be great.
Damage Build
Building Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, and Sterak’s Gage pairs perfectly with Rhaast’s Alien Scythe. The healing from his ability, combined with these items, makes him incredibly tanky while still dealing high damage.
You generally only want to fully itemize Rhaast when he’s 3-star. However, if you do upgrade him and need a secondary damage dealer, these items can still provide strong value.
Rhaast is very flexible and can be played with almost any of the Space Gods, but there are a few you should prioritize.
If you’re playing Rhaast in a reroll setup, you should definitely look out for Varus. He can offer Champion Duplicators and even offer a ton of 3-costs. Both of these help you hit your reroll boards more consistently and secure Rhaast 3-star.
Next, we have Ekko and Evelynn. These two can provide Spatulas and Pans, making it easier to add extra units to your board. This allows you to activate more traits and get maximum value from Rhaast’s Redeemer synergy.
Next, let’s go over a few augments. The ones you choose will depend on the type of comp you’re playing.
If you’re playing reroll, which is the case for most Rhaast comps, you’ll want to look for augments like Trifecta, Heroic Grab Bag, or Prismatic Ticket. These help you hit your upgrades much faster and stabilise your board early.
If your goal is to fit in more units and activate additional traits, especially to maximize Rhaast’s Redeemer synergy, then augments that grant Spatulas or Frying Pans are extremely valuable.
Lastly, Rhaast has his own augment: Misfits.
Misfits grants 75 Health for each active unique trait, while also giving you a Rhaast and a Miss Fortune. This is perfect for comps that stack multiple traits, and the bonus Health synergizes really well with the added resistances from the Redeemer trait, making your board significantly harder to kill.
