Build Overview

This Build is an Endgame Setup for the Lich Ascendancy utilizing the Power of Plants with our main damage dealing Spells being Entangle and Thrashing Vines with the added Thunderstorm Synergy to produce Overgrown Plant explosions with the help of Accelerated Growth.

This Build is a Physical Spellcaster and also has the option to use other Physical Spells like Bonestorm, Bone Cage or Detonate Dead.

This Build is exceptionally easy and smooth to level through the Campaign with our main Damage Dealer for both Clear and Single Target Entangle being available from Level 1 onwards.

The Abyssal Lich Ascendancy synergizes very well with this Build, with Rupture the Flesh being scaled by our Physical Damage instead of the normal Lich's Chaos Damage.

In Endgame this Build becomes one of the tankiest Builds in the Game with the Abyssal Lich Ascendancy, making use of extremely High Energy Shield Numbers and the Lich's inherent Damage Reduction with Soulless Form, Eternal Life and the additional Damage Bypass from Heavy Buffer and Atziri's Disdain.

I have played this build in both HC and HCSSF as a League Starter where it became virtually unkillable while also being able to easily do all Content in the came with its amazing Clear and great Single Target Damage.

This Guide includes a full walkthrough of the Progress throughout the Campaign as well as the current Endgame Version.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Borderline Unkillable
  • High Damage
  • Good Clear

Build Variants

We start off the Campaign by using Entangle from Level 1 onwards, aside from that, you will have multiple different options, which other Spells you want to use for Act 1.

You can easily mix in Spells like Bonestorm, Essence Drain and Contagion.

Whether you are using a Wand and Focus or a Staff is up to you, especially in the early Stages of Campaign like Act 1 and Act 2, the right Wand or Staff with its own Damage Skill can go a long way.

My recommendation here would either be a Bone Wand with its Bone Blast Skill, which scales along with our other Physical Spells or a Voltaic Staff with Lightning Bolt.

The biggest Priority in your choice of Weapon (and Focus) should always be the Affixes. Getting as high level of Spell Physical Skill Levels and Spell Damage as possible is absolutely crucial to make your Campaign Playthrough as smooth as possible.

Getting some Cast Speed on Wand, Focus, Amulet or Rings is also a nice Bonus !

Stat Priority during Campaign:

  • +Physical/All Spell Skills
  • Spell/Physical Damage
  • Resistances
  • High Armour / Energy Shield Bases
  • Maximum Life

Check Vendors as often as you can to look for +Physical Level Gear, Movement Speed for Boots or any other Upgrades you can get (High ES/Armour Gear, Resistances, Maximum Life).

Vendor Regex: "^\+.*ills$|st spe|nt speed"

You can copy this RegEx to paste it into the Vendor Search Bar to highlight Gear that you might want. This RegEx will highlight Items with Life, Movement Speed and Spell Levels.

Skill Gem Order:

  • Entangle (Level 1 Skill Gem from Renly's Quest)
  • Contagion (Level 1 Skill Gem from the Mysterious Campsite in Clearfell)
  • Essence Drain (Level 3 Skill Gem from the Rust King in Red Vale)
  • Arctic Armour (Level 4 Spirit Gem from the King in the Mist in Freythorn)
  • Thunderstorm (Level 5 Skill Gem from Leitis Quest after killing the Executioner)
  • Bonestorm (Level 5 Skill Gem from Zarka Quest at the start of Act 2)
  • Vulnerability (Level 7 Skill Gem in Act 2)
  • Thrashing Vines (Level 9 Skill Gem from Rootredge in Act 3)
  • Barkskin (Spirit Gem from Ignaduk in the Azak Bog in Act 3)
  • Tornado (Act 4)

In Act 1 you start off using Entangle and Contagion, up until we obtain Bonestorm our Main Single Target DPS Spell will be Essence Drain.

As soon as we get Thunderstorm, you can drop Essence Drain and Contagion.

Always remember to use Thunderstorm on top of your Entangle and later Thrashing Vines to trigger the Overgrown Effect with Accelerated Growth.

Bonestorm will be our biggest Single Target DPS Ability until we get Thrashing Vines in Act 3, at which point we can also drop Bonestorm.

Support Gem Order:

  • Zenith I (Entangle)
  • Controlled Destruction (Entangle)
  • Magnified Area I (Contagion)
  • Zenith I (Essence Drain)
  • Magnified Area I (Take from Contagion and put into Thunderstorm)
  • Burgeon I (Bonestorm)
  • Rapid Casting I (Bonestorm)

Apart from these and from then on out, you can freely decide which of above listed Support Gems you will prioritize for your following Spells but as soon as you get your first Level 2 Support Gem, immediately use it to give Entangle the Accelerated Growth Support and the same for your first Level 3 Support Gem to give Entangle the Branching Fissures I Support.

Both of these Supports are verry crucial and always take priority.

Skill Gem Level Priority:

  • Entangle
  • Thunderstorm
  • Bonestorm
  • Thrashing Vines

Dont forget to get your guaranteed Lesser Jewellers Orb in the Buried Shrines in Act 2 (Vaal Device).

You get your second Lesser Jewellers Orb right at the start of Act 3 in the Sandswept Marsh at the Orok Campfire.

Note: This area is named "Orok Campfire" but the actual object you need to click is the "Azak Campfire" and the monsters defending it are called Azakh.

Once in Act 3 you should be getting more and more Lesser Jewellers Orbs, the priority on which Skills to use them on is as follow:

  • Entangle
  • Bonestorm
  • Thunderstorm
  • Thrashing Vines

For Attributes, get as much Intelligence as you need to meet the requirements for your Gear and Skillgems, everything else is going into Strength.

On the Passive Tree, the Wildsurge Incantation Keystone takes the absolute highest Priority and should always be rushed as soon as possible.
