Overview

We know there are a lot of players switching over from Diablo 4 to PoE 2 so we've put together a guide that will cover comparable classes and terminology.

For now, we'll focus on the classes and Ascendancies that have been confirmed for the PoE 2 Early Access launch but we'll come back and add more when the time comes.

Note: Druid will not be part of PoE2’s Early Access but that would be the obvious choice for D4 Druid players.

Barbarian - The Warrior

barbarian = warrior

If you’re looking to hack, slash, stomp, and smash your way through enemies like the Barbarian, look no further than the Warrior, PoE2’s main melee martial class.

Its Ascendancies also have similarities to the Druid as the Titan can let you CC with stuns and slams while the Warbringer conjures ancestral spirits and totems.

Necromancer - The Witch

necromancer = witch

For players that like the dark magic of Necromancer, consider the Witch who can also summon and wield hordes of undead minions.

The Witch’s Bloodmage Ascendancy will satiate any Blood Necros while Sorcerer players may want to consider the Infernalist since it leans into fire and flame.

Rogue - The Ranger or The Mercenary

rogue = ranger or mercenary

If you enjoyed playing ranged Rogue builds, consider the Ranger or Mercenary which use bows and crossbows respectively.

In general, the Ranger focuses more on evasion and killing from afar while Mercenaries can lean into explosives and getting in closer quarters.

For Ranger Ascendancies, the Deadeye maximizes your projectile potential while its Pathfinder unlocks Poisons and Concoctions (for DoTs similar to the D3 Witch Doctor).

Meanwhile, the Mercenary’s Witchhunter focuses on first hit damage while the Gemling Legionnaire lets you augment Gems, helping you to create jack-of-all-trades playstyle.

Sorcerer - The Sorcerer

sorcerer = sorcereress

This one’s pretty on the nose! If you like the Sorcerer you’re bound to like the Sorceress, Path of Exile 2’s elemental mage.

The Stormweaver Ascendancy leans into conjuring storms alongside Shock, Fire, and Cold skills while the Chronomancer Ascendancy allows you to manipulate time (like the D3 Wizard’s Slow Time effect).

Spiritborn - The Monk

spiritborn = monk

Although the Spiritborn can do a lot more, the Monk is the closest Path of Exile 2 class you’ll get since it’s a staff-wielding spiritual warrior.

Its Invoker Ascendancy lets you imbue your staff with elemental abilities (so Sorc fans might find this appealing as well). Meanwhile, its Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy lets you exchange Spirit fo Darkness to wield the powers of Chaos.
